Sometimes the deepest scars are the ones that can't be seen.

Single mom Peyton Ward works three jobs to make ends meet. At Linear Tactical she’s surrounded by heroes on a regular basis…but none of them are hers. She thought she'd found one in Linear’s silent partner, and country music superstar, Cade Conner.

She was wrong.

Unintended wounds still cut as deep.

Cade may not work day to day operations at Linear, but he takes the mission of the company he helped create—teaching survival intelligence and self-defense skills to the people who need them most—seriously. And finding out he’s wounded Peyton in the worst way possible weighs on him.

So when danger on two separate fronts closes in on her, he will damn well be by her side. Making sure they survive so he can right his personal wrongs.

He might not have been a Special Forces soldier, but Cade Conner knows how to fight. And Peyton is a woman worth fighting for.

Echo is the 7th book in the Linear Tactical series, which doesn't seem possible, but gives us the story of single mom Peyton and superstar Cade. This is a second chance romance and Crouch doesn't let miscommunications get in the way. I appreciated the maturity Peyton showed in not hiding information. While the initial issue between these two was due to miscommunication, they were young an immature when it occurred and now that they are older, its handled in a more mature manner. I appreciated that because there was NO need to create unnecessary drama-llama.

If you have read the previous books, you have met Peyton and her daughter, You also know Peyton is working 3 jobs and barely making it. Cade isn't one of the Linear Tactical guys. He is a financial backer. He isn't a former special ops guy or anything like that. He comes from a life of privilege, while Peyton most certainly did NOT. You get glimpses into what happened in the past that inform the present but unlike the other books, this doesn't focus entirely on a serious danger to a character. Echo is more a story of rebuilding relationships and this is a different turn for the series. There is a touch of danger in the very end of the story because, after all, this is a Linear Tactical book!

Jess and Ethan steal the show at times in Echo. I think these two are just too precious for words and I can't wait to watch them grow up and get their own story!

  POV: 3rd
  Tears: no
  Trope: single mom, surprise baby
  Triggers:
Series/Standalone: stand alone within an interconnected series
  Cliffhanger:
  HEA:

...then you will probably like Echo!

I adore second chance romances, and Cade and Peyton’s story checked all my requirements! There was young love and misunderstandings, however, rather than draw out a secret that would have caused issues later on (thank you, Janie!), I was thrilled when Peyton came clean with Cade early on, thus allowing an actual relationship to develop without hinderance. It made a powerful, emotional impact that had me devouring Echo well in to the night!

I received an arc and this is my honest review.

I love the men and women of the Linear Tactical family so much I actually spent money on this book. Anyone who knows me knows that I never buy a book unless I love the author and can't get it any other way. So, am I satisfied? Yes, very much so. Janie Crouch has really matured into an awesome author. Her Harlequin short novels were great, but these longer Linear Tactical Series books are fantastic. "Echo" follows a predictable path . . . until it doesn't.

Peyton Ward had dreams of a career in film production. Instead, she is a single mom who is working hard to provide a better life for her daughter, Jess. She works part time, flexible jobs so she can be the best mom she can be. They don't pay a lot, but her time with Jess is what counts the most. It was not her choice to be a single mom, but life happens.

Cade O'Conner is a country music superstar and the scion of the wealthy first family of Oak Creek, WY. When he decided to take his shot at Nashville, he left behind a girl who had supported and encouraged him to pursue his dream. One of his investments was as a partner in Linear Tactical and guys he has known all his life.

When Cade returns to Oak Creek and finds out that life for Peyton did not turn out as she planned he is devastated to learn he was responsible. Making it right, well how can he possibly do that? The only thing he can do is take responsibility and protect her as best he can. Danger is stalking them both, but Cade knows that Peyton is more than worth protecting with his life.

I was really looking forward to reading Peyton's story, and I wasn't disappointed! Cade and Peyton, had a baby girl Jess almost 5 years ago, Cade doesn't know Jess is his daughter, and Peyton believes Cade discarded both her and Jess. Cade's aunt thought she was protecting him by not telling him about Peyton's pregnancy and poor Peyton has been living a life of secrets. After her step father nearly ended her life and having a premature baby, Peyton has worked so hard to give Jess a good life. Cade returns to his home town, and soon everything starts to go wrong. He has a supposed stalker, Peyton has an alcoholic mom and a step father looking for revenge. This book has amazing chemistry between Cade and Peyton, a twisting storyline, adorable friendship between Jess and Ethan ( Ethan's chat with Cade about his special Jess had me tearing up) I so enjoyed learning more about Peyton and Jess. I only wish we could award more star's! I can't wait for the next book coming in February 🙂

I love Janie Crouch books! Let me start with that.

Echo is about budding star musician Cade O'connor, know to his fans as Cade Connor and single mom Peyton Ward to the smartest little girl, 4 yr old Jess.

Peyton hasnt had it easy, an abusive stepfather who is now rotting in jail who not only nearly killed her, but her daughter, a preemie who had to fight to live. A drunk of a mom. Her dreams shattered when, after a lone night with her friend Cade O'COnnor, she learns she is pregnant. When she tries to reach him she is shown coldness. A NDA for her to have an abortion and 10 grand to stay quiet. She takes the money but she doesn't abort her daughter, she couldn't.

Now she works 3 some times 4 jobs to make sure Jess wants for nothing. When she runs into Cade who is back in town her world comes crashing down. Will he sue for the money since she never aborted the child. We her try to take her away.

That is a moot point when they learn he didnt have any idea obort her pregnancy, the baby, his daughter. Now he is out to not only win a chance to know Jess but also to re-win Peyton's heart.

A mystery stalker from his fandom, her past, or some unknown person will throw everything into jeopardy. Risking their happiness as well as their lives.

I love how Ms Crouch will give you multiple potential villains. Will have you saying its this one, no its this one, and then BAM its not who you thought.

I love this series.

I just reread this but I didn't remember any of it. I did hate the romantic interludes thoughts and I wish they hadn't mentioned it because he was so obsessed with her and it didn't make sense that he could be with another woman. Oh well personal pet peeve, but I loved the book on this reread.
I upped it by two stars. Little Jess was a superstar and his aunt actually reformed. As for the mystery, I figured that out right away. But I still loved it.

He loved her so much but... Spoilers !!!

He still had time for romantic interludes even though . Stupid ass. She was celibate for five years raising the daughter she thought he rejected. his aunt was a tool but he never really made her pay. I am halfway through but the hero annoyed me. If he loved her, he should have followed up with her instead of just abandoning her. And his phone excuse was stupid. I loved jess and he didn't deserve either one of them. So annoying.

Echo is book seven in the Linear Tactical series by Janie Crouch. Five years ago, Peyton Ward, through her world, was her oyster with a full scholarship to a film school in England. For Peyton, things changed when she met Cade Conner and fell pregnant after a one-night stand. However, Peyton did not expect to see Cade again after he gave her money to abort the baby. Cade had a stalker, so he decided to come home. The readers will continue to follow Peyton and Cade to discover what happens.

Echo is another fantastic addition to this excellent series by Janie Crouch. I enjoy how Janie Crouch incorporated social issues affecting today's communities. I engaged from the first page with this book's plot and characters. I love Janie Crouch's portrayal of her characters and how they interact throughout this book. Echo is well-written and researched by Janie Crouch. I like Janie Crouch's description of the sittings of Echo that complemented the book's plot.

The readers of the Echo will learn about issues that affect celebrities when they are out in the community. Also, the readers of the Echo will understand that you can have a family that is not necessarily related to you biologically.

I recommend this book.

An ardent and adorable love story, with a touch a danger and violence that within an eyeblink sends chills down your spine... The story swept me away with the potent feels, it had me smiling and in tears, its focus is on the endearing second chance romance, that hit all the spots of young love between a rich boy and a poor, abused girl that ends with misunderstandings, a secret baby, and meddling family... After a detailed, long prologue by both of the main characters' points of view, the story starts to flow effortlessly and smoothly, telling the tale of heartbreak, healing, and redemption, mixed with danger, abuse, and betrayal.
The Linear Tactical series has deservedly gotten a lot of praise from me, the characters and the situations they end up in are engrossing, entertaining, and gripping. Peyton Ward's little daughter, Jess, and Finn's son Ethan has won over the hearts of all the readers of the series. Jess and Ethan have often been the little light, heartening touch of innocence to balance all the darkness Linear Tactical guys face in their jobs. I love that smart little genius and the relationship she has with her mother as well as with Ethan. I loved seeing Jess interact with Cade Conner, and I loved that the parents were able to be mature about things and not keep long, unnecessary secrets to create more drama.
The relationship with Cade and Payton had honesty and realness in it, mix with the magic of falling in love. The connection between them was true and tight, able to withhold the test of time and circumstances. I believed in the connected, as I believed in them and cheered on to find the HEA they both so well deserved.
Each of the Linear Tactical stories stands on their own, yet are connected as series, and as one of my favorites, I do recommend to read all of them, in order if possible, to get the most of the developing relationships and storylines.
A fantastic addition to the series; to get the bright, light and love-filled future Payton and Jess have always deserved, they have to face deep, dark moments of utter fear, anxiety and threats, even deadly danger.

Payton had a crush on Cade since high school, and she didn’t know that he liked her, too. Until one night when everything changed.

Payton’s dreams got crushed, but that didn’t stop her from raising her daughter to never want for anything. She’s got a mother who’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep her safe. But when the star singer comes back to town, every wall she built around her heart comes crashing down.

Cade didn’t know that Payton went to film school as she planned and he wants to know why. When all he could see in her eyes was disappointment and fear, all he could do was ask her what the hell was going on.

Questions, confusion and betrayal. When accident after accident keeps happening, the couple has to stay together and with the help of their friends, they might survive and have a chance at the happy ever after they wished for.

This is a romantic suspense story about two people who met at the wrong time but eventually found their way back to each other. It’s the seventh book in the Linear Tactical series featuring Cade Conner, Linear’s silent partner, country music superstar, and single mom Peyton Ward to the very sweet and smart Jess. This book mentions stalking, abuse, and violence.

9-EF09-CF1-E8-B0-4437-AF19-338-D3-E2-E304-C

Peyton was one of the characters I liked and wanted so badly to find out what her story will be like. Her daughter Jess added light to every book she appeared in. The way Cade loved Payton was heartwarming and his determination to fix everything was admirable. I loved seeing them work out their feelings for each other and try to have a future where they all are happy together.

A79-FB2-BE-71-ED-4-C11-BB1-D-07-D4-C0-B3617-E

What annoyed me about this book is the miscommunication. They both could’ve done things differently, but they decided to believe the worst about each other. Also, my being wary of “friendly” made me guess who the stalker was right away. Some hints explained the motives behind it too, before it all came to light.

9-B0-C1-D11-2871-4-F57-A731-C1-FED9-C2543-E

This book was enjoyable and interesting. Even with the miscommunication, and the stalker being easy to identify. It’s a heartwarming story about two souls who found each other after years and decided to have a family and a future together.

This was another good entry into the Linear Tactile series! It was more mellow than the past books as it follows the silent partner who has no military training. Cade does have some training from being friends with all the linear guys, but he's not an official member.

Peyton and her daughter Jess had been in all the previous books, so I was excited to finally see both of them get a happily ever after!

I liked the progression of Peyton and Cade's relationship. I was pleased when Peyton told him the truth about Jess relatively early in the book. That allowed the rest of the book to be open for their romance to develop without a secret being kept.

I wasn't sure if the storyline of Peyton's abusive stepfather getting out of prison and Cade's stalker were going to overlap. I actually didn't think they were going to at all. Without spoiling it, I will say that the reveal of the stalker shocked me. Even when the person shows up for their big kill in the end, I didn't suspect anymore than Peyton did! Ms. Crouch did a great job with this villain.

The only reason I'd drop half a star is because there's only one sex scene. It was a shower scene and only involved a finger banging and oral (man to woman). I was disappointed not to get a full sex scene, especially one that included declarations and/or realizations of love in the throws of passion. After the first one, I assumed that there'd be a second one (there was even a scene that led right to the perfect place for one!) but it never came. I was kind of surprised since all the previous books were much more sexy. The story was still good, but the romance could of been elevated just a little bit more.

Cade and Peyton were both great characters and the cast of side characters, including Aunt Cecelia, were all great contributions to the story.

I'm definitely looking forward to finding out what happens with boy Riley and girl Riley! Even though it's pretty silly they have the same name 🙃

Country singer, Cade Connor, may not be a Navy SEAL or a covert operative like the other members of Linear Tactical, but he has his share of protective instincts, especially when it comes to Peyton Ward, the only woman he had ever loved. But Peyton has her reasons for keeping her distance from Cade until she finds herself the focus of a dangerous enemy eager to remove her from the picture.

Peyton's quiet nature and the questions surrounding her past have been intriguing from the beginning of the series, and readers are finally rewarded for their patience. As is the case with Crouch's other heroines, Peyton has had to deal with numerous challenges and obstacles, but she does so with exceptional resilience and admirable strength of character.

While Cade isn't quite as alpha as the other heroes in the series, he has no problem going after what he wants. His obvious love for Peyton and Jess makes it easy to forgive his early obliviousness and self-interest, which caused so much hurt.

The suspense is comprised of two interlocking threads - the threat from Peyton's past and the danger from Cade's present. While both are well developed with some action-packed and exciting moments, Crouch's heavy-handed foreshadowing makes it easy to guess the culprits.

One minor issue concerns the change in characterization for Jess, Peyton's 4-year-old daughter, who is suddenly a child prodigy. Why turn the precocious cutie from previous books into a pseudo-adult?

Overall, another wonderful installment in the Linear Tactical series, and the hints at problems between the two Rileys make me eager to read their book next.

This was solid book, but I knocked off a star for this line alone:

“She looked at him like she might pat him on the head and escort him to the Special Ed classes any minute.”

I mean, are you kidding me??? I checked to see if maybe this had been written in the 90s, but nope. 2019. And everyone can think I’m being sensitive, but you gotta really take a moment and walk this sentence out to its logical conclusion. In context, this is the MMC saying something his daughter thinks is stupid. Which means…he should go to…the “special ed” class???? Cus that’s where…stupid people go?? Gross. I hope subsequent versions of this book will omit that line. Making fun of “special Ed” kids wasn’t even funny back in the 90s, but in 2019?? Absolutely not.

Cade & Peyton, my word. These two are meant to be. Peyton has been running herself ragged for years to take care of her daughter. When Cade’s back in town, they’re forced to face the pain of the past. In doing so, Cade learns how much he hurt Peyton without even knowing it. My heart broke for these two and everything they had been put through. When there’s suspense and danger coming at them from multiple directions, Cade makes it his mission to keep Peyton and her daughter safe. I will forever swoon over these protective men doing whatever they need to to keep their girls safe. And can we talk about how Jess is the most adorable four year old?! I love her and Ethan, and I cannot wait to watch them continue to grow together, and eventually get to their book!!

This is the 7th book of the Linear Tactical series. This is a standalone book, but better enjoyed if you've read the series as Peyton and little Jess are featured throughout the series. Peyton, the single, hardworking mom who works three jobs to make sure her daughter has everything she needs. She's part of the LT family and Finn's son, Ethan, and Jess are the best of buddies. Cade, the superstar country singer, who also happens to be a multimillionaire and a silent partner in LT.

I have been waiting for Peyton's and Jess's story. Janie does not disappoint! Peyton and Cade were friends in high school, her the shy, quiet freshman; him the popular football player. He went to Nashville to pursue his country singing. He works hard and makes it, but is called home when his father passes away. He and Peyton have a wonderful night together before he leaves to go back to Nashville and she's set to go to London on a film directing full scholarship at a prestigious London school.

Things, for Peyton, don't turn out the way she dreamed and she believes that Cade has just turned his back on her and wants nothing to do with her. She's devastated. Cade feels that Peyton left for London and decided she no longer wanted anything to do with him. He's extremely hurt.

Janie is an incredible writer and the way she weaves this story is so good. The cast of characters is awesome. Peyton, Jess, Cade, Cecelia are all very believable and I felt their fear, hurt, anger, all their emotions as they worked through issues and misunderstandings. With each book in the LT series, I think it just can't get any better, then Janie shows me how wrong I am!! I love the LT world so much and each book keeps pulling me in more and more!

Disclosure: I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest opinion. My opinion: If you love romantic suspense, then you really need to read this book!

I have to honestly say the Linear Tactical series is one of my favorites and I am always anxiously waiting to devour the next book. Echo definitely did not disappoint! In this 7th book, we get Peyton and Cade’s story and it is filled with so many emotions, suspense that gets your heart pumping, amazing secondary characters and a fantastic happily ever after.

Peyton was an amazing heroine, she endured so much in her life and then to see a little bit of happiness for her and then to get it taken away just broke my heart. But I was in awe of her strength to move on and do whatever she had to to give her daughter Jess the best life possible. Cade on the other hand, lived in a completely different world. He was privileged and he had an amazing career in the country music scene. Different sides of the track but they had such a deep connection. But due to interferences and misunderstandings they were separated in the harshest of ways. Now five years later, Cade is back and when the truth is revealed, he is determined to get his family back. He may not be an active member of the Linear Tactical team, but he is integral to the overall operation. He has the training and it definitely comes in handy when danger comes calling.

I not only loved the love story between Cade and Peyton, little Jess was such a scene stealer. And then the moments with her and eight-year old Ethan made my heart melt. The camaraderie and loyalty of everyone in the Linear Tactical world is top notch and it continues to show. Echo was an amazing read and I highly recommend this one and all the others in this series. 5-star read for sure!

Echo by Janie Crouch is 7th book in the Linear Tactical series, which gives the readers the 2nd chance romance story of country superstar Cade and single mother Peyton.
Peyton has been featured throughout the series working 3 jobs to take care of her 5 year old cutie, Jess. She's part of the LT family and Finn's son, Ethan, and her daughter , Jess are the best of friends. Peyton has a past with Cade..one that is 5 years old. She has a violent dislike for Cade due to their history- a history that Cade may not even be aware of and due to that, she does everything she can to avoid him. She doesn't know that besides him being a superstar country singer, and a multimillionaire that he's also a silent partner in LT.
Theirs is a complex, complicated and intense relationship. Cade and Peyton are made for one another. Someone wants to prevent her/them from being together by any means possible. This is the heartbreaking part of the story. When you read this/these parts, you'll understand. Ms. Crouch really expressed the characters feelings and emotions quite well. I felt like I was right there in the middle of it all. There was tons of drama, angst, twists, danger, action-adventure, suspense, intrigue, passion, excitement, longing, heat, joy, forgivness and true love.
This was such a beautiful story and I can't wait to read the next book in this exciting series.

I loved this book! It's my favourite of all the Linear Tactical books. And that's saying something because all of them are terrific.

Peyton is a single mom working 3 jobs to give her daughter, Jess, a good life. As a financial backer for Linear Tactical, Cade wasn't one of the team but he did have skills to protect himself and Peyton. Those skills sure came in handy. He grew up with money and now that he's a music superstar, he has more than he'll ever need. Peyton's life was the complete opposite.

I'm glad Peyton and Cade cleared up their misunderstanding fairly quickly so they could move on in a relationship. Between the romance and suspense, I needed to know what would happen next and couldn't read fast enough. I loved the children. They added some humour to this story. Jess was only 4 but was so smart she seemed older. Ethan was such a cutie. This little guy made it his responsibility to protect Jess. This made sense since he intended to marry her when they were older.

Romantic Suspense fans are going to love this book. I sure did. It had me feeling happy, sad, intrigued, angry, hopeful and frustrated. It’s a good read that will leave you smiling.

I was lucky to receive a copy for review consideration.

Won't re-read so glad I waited for KU

The overworked single mom troupe is not my favorite so I wasn't looking forward to Peyton's book but ready to say I was wrong if it was great. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into it. The beginning and reason for Peyton and Cade's separation is such an overplayed plot line - 3 stars.

The stalker plotline was not interesting and very predictable -3 stars.

Not sure the reason for the sudden change to make Jess a child genius but it didn't work for me. She went from a cute kid with Ethan to not cute anymore. And I just couldn't wrap my head around a 4-year-old and her language. Guess I don't hang around with enough geniuses. So cute kids couldn't bring up the stars.

Not book related but am I the only one who thinks the female cover model looks like she could be 16? Lol

Every time I read a book by Janie Crouch, it becomes my new favorite. Because every book in each series she writes is better than the previous one! I've loved the Linear Tactical series, and I've been anxiously waiting to read Peyton's story. And it definitely surpassed every expectation that I had.  Jess has been one of my favorite characters in this series, and getting to see her through her dad's eyes, after he first learns about her, is heartwarming (& laughter inducing). I loved watching Cade & Peyton navigate their complicated history, and heal the past hurts. I also love how the storyline with Aunt Cecilia played out (not like I expected, but so much better!).  I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I've been wanting to know what the deal was with Cade and Peyton and why she hated his guts. You could just tell there was a great story behind it and I was so eager to start reading.
The reason why they lost touch was heartbreaking but as they start to repair their relationship, the love they felt for each other resurfaces and we get to see Peyton and her beautiful little girl get the HEA they deserved.

This was a great read about second chance at love or maybe better word is at life. I've been a HUGE fan of the series since the beginning and I can't wait to see what comes next.

DNF @75% I like the secret baby/second chance romance plot. If only they focused on that instead of forcing the far fetched story about the MMC’s ‘stalker’aaaand the ‘abusive step father looking for revenge’. It was too much thriller sub plots and so unrealistic I couldn’t even care less. The writer just summarized most important part of the story to give way to the implausible parts. I imagine a chapter would be good for the father-daughter’s first meeting but damn it was only mentioned briefly. I wanna see the initial dynamic of both MCs with the kid but then you went ahead and fast forward it to 3weeks later. It was frustrating to say the least.

I liked that we got the story of Peyton and her past, I was on the fence with Cade and his part, even when we learned he didn’t really know what happened. It was only when Peyton got to read his “questions” that I was won over by him. By the end of the book I liked the family that they made, even the older generation.

OK, my first thought when I read some of the previous reviews for Echo was "Wait, did we read the same book?" Because, yes, I enjoyed reading it overall, but I really REALLY struggled with the miscommunications between the protagonists in the first third of the book. No drama? No miscommunications? Really? *ahem* let people have their own reactions in peace, 'k, Starfire?

Look, I won't lie: I ended up skimming through quite a bit of that first third because I get really, really annoyed when I know more about a given situation than a protagonist for any length of time, and in this case, it was knowing more about it than BOTH of them, and just wanting them to hurry up, talk and get on with the story already!

BUT. Once Peyton and Cade finally DID have the conversation, and had both had time to process what it meant, the story picked up immensely for me. I loved seeing the two of them explore how the edges of their lives could fit together. And - surprisingly - I loved how instrumental Jess was in that. I'm going to have to stop saying I don't enjoy kids in my romance books soon, because, damn, in the right author's hands, they can absolutely steal the entire scene (and maybe even the entire story). Between CE Murphy's Noah Brannigan, Kate Canterbary's Gennie, and now Janie Crouch's Jess (and, to a lesser extent, Ethan), I'm apparently becoming a sucker for smart, straight-talking, wise-beyond-their-years kid characters.

Also I particularly loved that

I was less keen on the stalker angle (although, hey, at least it was the MMC being stalked this time), and I 100% called the stalker's identity pretty much straight after the first on-page incident.

All in all though, despite the rocky start, I enjoyed the story, and I'm looking forward to reading Girl Riley and Boy Riley's story next :-)

I loved this book. The series gets better with each installment. Peyton has been a character hovering in the background during the earlier books, with her adorable daughter Jess getting far more page time. I had a feeling that Peyton's story would be an interesting one when it was her turn, and I was right.

Peyton and Cade knew each other in high school when she was a freshman, and he was a senior. Both were involved in the high school's arts program, Cade on the music side, and Peyton on the film side. Peyton did her best to keep a low profile because she wasn't in that high school's district, and had pretty much lied her way in. She saw the arts program as her only way out of her abusive family life. Cade knew the truth but kept her secret. He graduated and went off to Nashville to pursue his singing career, while Peyton continued her efforts. By the time she graduated, she had won a full scholarship to a London film school. A few weeks after she graduated from high school, her car broke down, and she took refuge in Cade's lake cabin. He showed up and the attraction they'd fought for years became too much. There were consequences to that night together, but miscommunication and outside interference kept them apart, leaving each believing that the other had turned their back.

Five years later, Cade returns to Oak Grove for a visit and runs into Peyton, the woman he's never been able to forget. Something in that encounter seems off, and it takes some effort for him to track down Peyton and find out why. Peyton is terrified to see Cade, afraid of him finding out what she hid all these years. I was impressed by Cade's determination to get to the bottom of the mystery, and his patience and kindness as he tried to get through to Peyton. I ached for Peyton, who truly believed that he had turned his back on her when she needed him most. I loved that, once she understood what happened, she didn't keep the truth from him. Cade's reaction was priceless, and I loved seeing his joy in the news.

I thoroughly enjoyed the development of the relationship between Peyton and Cade. There was no doubt that the attraction and feelings between them were just as strong as they'd been before. Cade is determined to show Peyton that she and Jess belong in his life. It was sweet to see how well he still understood her and the confidence he had in her. His insistence that she be in charge of his music video and documentary gave her confidence quite a boost, once she believed it was really happening. I loved watching her bloom, especially standing up to the guy who always put her down. I also adored the scene in the bar during the girls' night out, as he and the LT guys watched their ladies have fun, though it didn't take long for Cade to stake his claim. It was easy to see that Cade was all-in, but Peyton was still a bit wary. She wasn't sure if Cade wanted her, as well as Jess, and was hesitant to fully trust him with her heart. It took two brushes with death for her to finally accept the truth. The ending was fantastic.

Peyton's daughter Jess has been one of my favorite characters throughout the series, and I loved getting to know her even better. She is an adorable mixture of little girl and teenager/young adult. Her relationship with Peyton is fantastic, and the love they share leaps off the page. I loved her stated intention of becoming the "Empress of the Elementary School" and her apparent confidence in her ability to do so. I loved watching her wrap Cade around her little fingers, and laughed out loud at their bonding over bad choices. Her friendship with Finn's son Ethan is as strong as ever. I love Ethan's protectiveness toward Jess, even more so since the events in the previous book. Ethan totally stole my heart with his man-to-man talk with Cade at the end, and I loved how seriously Cade treated Ethan's concerns. I can't wait to see the two of them grow up.

This wouldn't be a Linear Tactical book without danger coming to the main characters. In this book, the threat comes from two directions. Cade has picked up a stalker, one that has escalated from nuisance attacks to something more dangerous. He and his security team have tried to find out who it is, but the stalker seems to stay one step ahead of them. It is disturbing to realize that the stalker seems to know far more of the inside workings of Cade's life than any of them are comfortable with. As the story went on, I had several suspects in mind, but it took me almost to the end to figure out who it was. The final confrontation was terrifying, as the stalker seemed utterly convinced of the necessity of his actions. The second danger focused on Peyton. Five years earlier, her stepfather had nearly killed her and went to prison. Unfortunately, she and her mother learn that Dennis will be released early from prison. Though there is a restraining order to keep him away from them, we all know how that usually works out. When Peyton is attacked, there are questions about whether it is Dennis. Peyton's mother, an alcoholic, believes it is, but there is no evidence. I was on the edge of my seat when Dennis made his move, as there were so many things that could go wrong. I loved Peyton's ability to keep a cool head, and Jess's quick thinking also helped. The deciding factor was the help from an unexpected source, which surprised both Peyton and me. Another surprise was the connection between the two dangers.

I always love the secondary characters. As always, the LT members wander in and out of the book as needed, and have our characters' backs in times of trouble. I liked seeing more of Baby in this book and loved the close friendship between him and Cade. I liked how he gave Cade a kick in the seat when he needed it. I enjoy his self-deprecating humor, his way with the ladies, and have the feeling that there is something important going on with him. I liked seeing more of Girl Riley and loved her support of Peyton. I liked the way she tore into Cade at the beginning. I can't wait for her story because I think she has some trouble ahead of her from a few hints that were dropped along the way. I liked Peyton's mother and felt terrible for her, as her fears of her ex created deeper problems with her alcoholism. I was impressed that she held it together as well as she did during the final confrontation. But it was Cade's Aunt Cecilia that had the most significant secondary role, in my opinion. I did not like her at all at the start of the book. She came across as a snob, cold, and without an ounce of human kindness in her soul. I hated the way she treated Peyton, even more so as her role in keeping Peyton and Cade apart was revealed. She grew on me a little during the scene at the gas station and redeemed herself at the end.

Peyton Ward and Cade Connor share a past, one that created something that drove them apart by unforeseen forces. That was five years ago and now he is back in his hometown to get away from his life as a country music star for a little while. But trouble isn't far behind, in fact, it is closer than he thinks. It will threaten his future and he will not stand for that.

Peyton and her daughter Jess have delighted me since I first read about them. Jess steals the scenes she is in, whether she is by herself or with Ethan. The two of them are inseparable and it is so damn cute. Peyton has no money and works three jobs to support her and Jess. She is part of the Linear family because she works for them as a part-time janitor but they treat her like family.

Her life hasn't been easy and now Cade comes back into her life with an offer she can't refuse but she has something she needs to tell him before the job can go further. Things heat up from them and trouble ensues.

This was just as suspenseful as the other books and just like Zac and Anne's story Petyon and Cade had known each other in high school. My favorite scene surprisingly did not involve the precious Jess but her best friend Ethan. Ethan and Cade had a little talk in the park by the pizzeria near the end of the story and it was so sweet it brought tears to my eyes. I love these stories and the characters that live in the pages. They are sexy, fun, full of action, and well throw in kids and dogs and you get stories that let you escape for a bit.

I don't know enough superlatives to describe this book. This is far, far more than just an ordinary second chance romance. This couple, Cade and Peyton really never had their first chance because of interfering relatives and fame.

This book was so well plotted that I read it in a day, and it was as smooth as the best 25 year old Scotch I've ever had. Janie Crouch went for the heart with this book, and what she aims, she hits.

Thank you, Ms. Crouch for writing such a surprising story. The twists and turns helped tell the story, which is truly a suspenseful adventure. Thank you for getting all the Linear guys involved, but most of all. Thank you for making all the adventure, all the action, and all the suspense PALE under the heat of the love of these two people. A love story that everyone should read.

Part of what made this book so very good is that the characters were so rich and deep. Each one - whether it was Peyton, Cade, Renee, or Cecilia - had loads and loads of history behind them and Janie Crouch told each of their stories with care. And Jess? That child was written with a deft hand and was absolutely perfect for the book.

Janie Crouch, thank you! I've never read your Harlequin's because I like a little more spice to my books, but Echo? This was perfect. The "questions" even though the reader never sees them, stayed in my memory while I read the rest of the book. Perfect plotting, perfect scene setting, and great characters!

Payton Ward grew up on the wrong side of town. She had to fight for everything growing up. She never felt wanted or seen. Cade O’Connor was the rich, popular kid in town. Everyone wanted him, wanted to know him. But when Cade met quiet, smart, beautiful Payton, he was in love. So he befriended her and kept her secrets and secretly loved her. But she was too young for him, so he kept his distance.

Payton was finally getting out! She was going to live her dream and go to London and learn movie production. But before she left, Cade came home. He told her he cared about her and they were together 1 night and he left to return to Nashville to become a big star.

I am not really a lover of second chance stories. I feel like there is always 1 of the couple who has to forgive and forget what the other did to hurt them. That is not the way this second chance went. I think Janie Crouch wrote it soo good! I was glad that Payton didn’t hold out and not tell Cade the truth for too long. (I hate when authors drag it out.) And I loved how Cade fought for her love. How he never really stopped loving her.

There was danger and intrigue in the story. I loved how even though Cade was famous, he still was a badass and knew how to protect himself and his family. Another great read!
