The Richard Jackson Saga Book 7: Third Time is a Charm
An adventure filled series of a young man’s coming of age in the late 1950’s. Starting in the summer before his freshman year it follows him through high school and beyond. He finds wealth as an inventor and fame in Hollywood as he searches for a girlfriend. Wealth and fame prove easier than girls. The seventh book, ‘Third Time is a Charm,’ has Rick making a movie he didn’t want to do, singing a song against his will and trying to complete the tenth grade. Danger and adventure keeps coming his way, from a pedophile to the KGB the world seems out to get him. Life is strange when the Hell’s Angeles consider you one of them. The State of California can’t comprehend that self-study can be more efficient than a classroom. Flying multi-engine aircraft proves to be easy compared to getting and keeping a girlfriend. For the young, this is a coming of age adventure, for those who lived it a trip down memory lane, and for those with a search engine Easters Eggs galore. This tongue in cheek saga is all true, give or take a lie or two.
I’ve become comfortable with the preposterous incidents and now accept them as integral part of the stories as they just add to the charm of the saga, which is why I have started giving five stars for these books. However, I wasn’t as comfortable with this book, the CIA/FBI/KGB/MI6/PIA storyline didn’t always make sense and I wasn’t sure where Rick’s petulance came from with the Indian Movie.
Rick continues his climb to fame, fortune and being the wealthiest person on the planet , he crosses swords with bureaucrats trying to justify their existence and makes a movie that actually means something as he watched his siblings grow up and his parents do what they do.!!
What is amazing is that the author MC is in more adventures than Tom Swift and a young Indiana Jones combined. Even more is the writing and pacing allow for such suspension of disbelief, you never even notice. Now I will have to wonder how he meets JFK
Didn't get the title this time, but enjoyed anyway
The best thing about these stories is imagining what Rick will invent that will change the world and generate another fortune. the point is to be observant, recognise an idea as being new, and figure out how to make a lot of them.
As I read through the book, I love the reference of all the things I remember from my youth. I have come to except the luck that our hero seem to have. He also runs into some bad luck from time to time. I hope he gets a little better luck with the girls. I would love to see some more romance in the books now that Rick is a little older. I love the way Mr Nelson leads you a fast pace story that you just can't put down.
