Explore homes from around the world and through time, celebrating different cultures and what is central to each and every home: the family who lives there!
I wrote my first book when I was 8 years old. I glued photos of my cats in a blank book and wrote about them, too. Now I am an internationally-published children's author commended by the Library of Congress for my work encouraging children to read. I write in a room between a deli and an art gallery on a small town street. I can see families walking by, and I can hear children laughing and playing. It helps me to remember what exactly I'm doing this for - creating books for families all over the world to use together, and helping children to love words.
I really enjoy this book about homes and the rooms in a home in various cultures around the world and throughout time. The inclusion of numerous #muslimsintheillustrations is what made someone suggest it to me, and when I found it at the library my six year old and I enjoyed reading it over and over again. With the tagline of "What makes a house a home?" the tidbits of information, the detailed illustrations, and the prompting to reflect on the reader's own home gives the book a lot of charm. By focusing on the differences of something universal it also allows for discussion, understanding, and wonder as similarities and uniqueness are noted in a non judgmental manner. The book is 32 pages and depending on how much time you want to spend with it, would work for kindergarteners and up.
