온난화와 지구 정의를 둘러싼 직접적인 논쟁을 본격적으로 전개하는 책. <탄소 주권과 탄소 제국주의>와 <에너지 전쟁과 에너지 민주주의> 두 권의 책을 1부와 2부의 형식으로 하나로 편집한 것이다. <탄소 주권과 탄소 제국주의>는 온난화의 진보적 해법 ‘1인당 할당제’와 공유재로서의 접근법을 제안하고, <에너지 전쟁과 에너지 민주주의>는 원자력에너지의 허구성과 시민 주체의 녹색 에너지 개발을 제안한다.

오늘날의 기록적인 온난화, 한발, 홍수는 갈수록 인류의 불안정한 미래를 암시하고 있다. 그런데도 부시 행정부는 교토의정서를 거부하고, 석유 의존으로 인한 제반 결과들을 부정할 뿐 아니라 석유 정치를 군사적 지배와 전쟁의 정치로 규정하고 있다.

이 책의 저자들은 사회적 정의에 대한 접근법만이 지구상의 남반부와 북반부 사이에 반드시 공존해야 할 타협점을 만들어낼 수 있으며 파괴적인 민족적, 이데올로기적, 계급적 분열로 찢긴 오늘날의 지구에서 지속가능한 미래를 향한 길을 열어갈 수 있다고 주장한다.

Now, the energy supply system has been changed globally. i want to believe i read this book at the entrance of the change of paradigm into the more efficient energy system even though i read this book 15 years later from publish in South Korea.
I totally agree with the point of view on the global energy industry. It needs to be greener with distributing more renewable energy sources. But the current centralized energy supply system relying on fossil fuel was too much diabolized in this book. As an engineer, I believe the energy supply system needs to stand for the stability and cost efficiency as well as decarbonization. So what i recommend for the readers of this book is to read any books on the urban energy systems describing how the energy system is stabilized based on what kinds of engineering basis. Based on this, readers need to establish their thoughts not to be biased.
And the last thing is that despite the thoroughly enlightening contents of this book, i was pretty disappointed with the translation of the Korean edition. Maybe the translator is not the specialist on energy field so some terminologies are somehow weird.
