Skinned
Power happy immortals, dramatic secrets, and a ghastly case of redemption make for one hell of a road trip.
The Southern serpente shapeshifters are about to crown their first king in over five-hundred years. Fray and her newly formed inclusive shifter group, the Collective, are sent to protect the potential monarchs from an outlier band of snake shifters hell-bent on destroying the prophetic ritual in the most gruesome way imaginable. Nothing is ever easy when snakes are involved, that's for sure.
Along the way, Fray accidentally awakens an ancient gorgon magic, discovers the true origin of her kitty-cat eyes, and stokes a fire that has no business burning between shifters of different origins.
Surrounded by temptation and bloodshed, Fray learns that bones never lie. Some even speak.

Very enjoyable read
Given the popularity of shifter-centric urban fantasy, it's rare to come across a truly refreshing story. This series has, so far, fit the bill. Even though it does draw from typical shifter tropes, it also veers away from them and introduces some new and very enjoyable twists. This second novel, in particular, adds an entirely new spin on the mythos, and fleshes out the author's intriguing take on shifter taxonomy. I recommend this to anyone seeking a different spin on this sub-genre of urban fantasy.
