Laney Carter is a normal seventeen-year-old high school student. Then eight months ago, she saved the multiverse. Only, she doesn't remember...

To make matters worse, her alternate world selves have begun "The Bleed," wreaking havoc on her life - an unexpected side effect from her previous journey to the other parallel world.

Luckily, tall, hot and brooding Noah Donovan is back to take her to his world again, and a quirky squad of genius friends in the New World are endeavoring to get her memory back, and formulate a cure.

And Laney needs one, fast.

A veiled organization called "The Alliance" doesn't want her in their world. Laney has been displaced, in clear violation of the laws of space-time. An anomaly. One that needs to be corrected.

Laney needs to fix her condition before "The Bleed" takes over completely. Or before "The Alliance" fixes her themselves. Permanently.

Fun, fast moving, multi-dimensional adventure with a bit of mystery and just a touch of romance. A story that starts as a nightmare, then turns into a dream, only to reveal nothing is quite as it appears. This is very much a YA read featuring a post-apocalyptic reality where everyone seems to be a genius and everyone is young, including the teenager gamer president!

There is quite a bit of danger, conflict and political intrigue, but it never gets too heavy. The characters are funny and quirky and some of the imagery is quite fantastic.

This is book 2 in the selfless series. If you read book one you will appreciate the changes and growth in a few characters and have a bit of experience with this world. If you haven't read book one, you are in for one exciting ride as you try to figure out what is going on right along with Laney as she attempts to regain her memory. Either way it is a fun read.

Noah finds Laney and takes her to his dimension to try and fix her bleeds to her other selves from the other dimensions. Throughout their journey in this book Noah and Laney are trying to figure out their feelings for her from her dimension and him from his dimension without the memories of the Eleanor/Laney from his dimension and trying to stay one step ahead of danger. Interesting and intriguing story

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
Laney’s life has finally gone back to normal, but she has no memory about what took place eight months ago except for the strange dreams, asleep and awake, that have been happening. That is until Noah, from another world arrives. Laney returns with Noah to learn that her last trip to their world could kill her. Everyone is working to find a cure except for the one person who could help, Laney herself. You see Laney is more than just having dreams, she is experiencing crossover lives from personalities from countless parallel worlds. To make it worse a group from Noah’s world are determined to get rid of Laney at any costs.

This is a fascinating look into the possibility of parallel worlds. Consider all the different direction history could take leaving you with countless lives and Laney has a good idea of how that would feel. I can’t wait to see what will happen next.

Jump into the ‘swirling vortex of doom’
Thanks, but no thanks. Just like IRL here on Earth, each choice has its benefits and consequences. I’d rather stick with what I know rather than have a major part of my experiences not be there.

The author addressed quite a few serious topics.
** Concept of home
Where exactly does one belong, especially when there are other worlds? Having moved out of state three times then out of the country, I’ll say that some places just aren’t home like the others.
** Bioethics versus quest for knowledge
** Leadership accountability
Where is the line that government can draw regarding transparency? As in, don’t tell the masses X, Y, or Z because they’ll want change.

Culture shock in a parallel world.
Laney (as herself, the Earthling):
She is completely overwhelmed by the brainiacs surrounding her. Like, is there even a difference between ‘dendrological geneticist’ and ‘dendrogeogenetical scientist’?
And for me (pretend I didn’t say I moved out of the country):
How can these people not know about “Men in Black”? Thank Gawd there are waffles!
Some sage advice from the author:
Don’t let your own work destroy you.

Fave quotes:
‘In my lab, we welcome anything weird.’
‘A bottle of whey from a vending machine definitely does not an entire meal make.’

Does Laney finally rid herself of her condition? ‘Free Yourself’ may hold the answer to her spacetime dilemma.

DNF - read to the 43% mark. I started this series with this book.

It was okay to the start the series in the second book, because the character had her memory wiped from the actions in the first book. The first part of the story was interesting as the quantum reality starts slipping for our perky heroine, bringing nightmares, waking translocations to other worlds, and the ability to speak perfect French in time to pass the language oral examine in her high school.

I couldn't handle it when the actual meat of the story began. A planet where everyone is a genius, getting doctorates, to the point of silliness. Also I had a hard disbelief that everyone in the world, once shifted south, still overlaps so well with everyone Laney knows on her world. How in the world is everyone still that white? It's a typical YA, one level of change without really thinking about all the impact on society. Simplistic but unrealistic. And Laney's and Noah's interactions are headache inducing with her constantly going off on her own, or delaying things, or him knowing she doesn't know things and but still acting like she does. I couldn't deal with it.

So DNF just shy of half-way.

Just as exciting and engaging as the first! This story takes place 18 months after the initial book in this series, and is still going strong. Visiting the same parallel universe with the same people, but with a few unique twists, including a higher-stake plot, a different mission, and the fact that Laney doesn't remember anything at all about the previous mission. Absolutely enjoyed this!

Intriguing story

The story is great and the worlds building (bleed throughs) were an added bonus. I would have given this five stars since it was mostly clean also, but the curse word used was offensive.

This was good! A few things were confusing, like why they wiped her memory if they already knew she'd been hit by that energy beam... but I enjoyed it 😊 A fun, fast-paced sci-fi adventure that kept me enthralled the whole time!

Find yourself

The plot thickens. Laney is back in the alternate dimension. So is Noah and Berry and a few supporting characters. Some she recognizes from home.

The end is a mild cliffhanger.

What a fast-paced mind-bending fantastic story!! I love seeing the mysteries unfold of what's going on, and Laney figuring things out. This series is absolutely unputdownable, and I'm going to start the next book right now!

It’s eight months later and Laney is still having these really weird and vivid dreams, no wait nightmares. Her boyfriend Kevin and best friend Darla are starting to really worry about her, it’s like she’s there, then she’s not.

Woah, this isn’t real is it?

What’s worse is Laney realises that there is something seriously wrong when one of her dreams take over her waking life. Taking herself back to her dorm she bumps into ‘Jake’ actually it’s Noah – ‘Who are you?’ before she knows it, she’s back in a world that she doesn’t remember but everyone knows who she is.

Berry and PT have both had upgrades!

Will Noah save her and get his Laney back, but which Laney is it? It turns out the Laney he proposed to might not have actually been the Laney he thought it was.

As with the first in the series, it is a compelling story. It is light and meaty at the same time. I like that there were new characters that we got to meet; Maia and Berry AI, as well as the old characters who are still developing with interesting twists, such as Noah, little bit of a surprise there eh….
I was disappointed in that just as the story was in full flow it stops and now waiting for the next instalment. This novel was slightly longer that the first and we shall have to wait and see how Laney and Noah get on in the ‘Project: Save Laney’.

The pacing in this book was slowed down considerably but not too much. I feel like I got to know more about the main character, Laney. The romance elements are extremely slow to develop and Noah, is pretty much still brooding but with little to know info. I love the reasoning behind why Laney returned and the side effects of it. It’s rather comical. This ending makes you want to read the next book!

I recommend this book for anyone wanting, fast pacing, sci-fi, and humor.
