Books in the Love in the Mountains Novella Series: * Rain on a Tin Roof * Lost and Found * Rescue his Heart While the characters overlap, each novella tells a different, separate story with a happy ever after ending.
Suzanne Cass has always had a fascination with the tough resilience of people who live in our amazing red-dirt outback country. Much of her adolescence was spent working as a jillaroo in the Snowy Mountains, forming her love of lean, enigmatic, cowboy heroes in wild, passionate, dangerous stories. When not writing about the characters that inhabit her head, Suzanne can be found prowling the Perth beaches with her border collie, or yelling from the sidelines as her two sons play sport. Her debut novel, Island Redemption won the Romance Writers of Australia award for best unpublished romance novel of 2016.
I have just finished (re)reading #1/Rain on a Tin Roof (#2/Lost and Found and #3/Rescue His Heart) and add this updated readers’ note:
UPDATED READER NOTE: Book #1/RAIN ON A TIN ROOF begins with a missing woman having just been found. LOST AND FOUND, Titled #2, is about Finding that same missing woman, and Book #3/Rescue His Heart includes portions of that same search. THEREFORE, FOR CONTINUITY SAKE, I WOULD ADVISE changing the reading order. Read LOST AND FOUND/book#2 FIRST (prior to reading Rain on a Tin Roof) and then FOLLOW with book #3 Rescue His Heart. Lastly finish the series reading book#1 RAIN ON A TIN ROOF. That being said, all 3 books are enjoyable and read very quickly so a person could easily buy and read the complete series in one happy sitting (making note of the recommended reading order) at a minimal cost. Or any of the titles could be read separately as quick standalone novellas. As I mentioned, I enjoyed and recommend the full series with 3 separate couples..
A heartfelt 4 stars. (I seldom give 5). Lost and Found/#2 is an enjoyable, very quick reading (about 2 hrs) novella that succeeded in leaving me with a smile and a happy heart. :D It is a Clean, proximity/danger-type trope novella with a Search and Rescue setting that ends with a heartwarming sense of renewal and new possibilities. Lost and Found reads quickly - a perfect read for before bedtime or for unwinding after work. I love SAR novels and the author quickly pulled me in. I easily could have read a more detailed version of this same story in a longer version. (I sincerely hope bk #3, Rescue His Heart, pulls together the three books of this series and provides a updated epilogue for the couples involved). I recommend Lost and Found to readers who enjoy quick, sweet HEA “pick-me-up” romances with a touch of danger, those who enjoy SAR stories, Clean romances, and/or those readers who enjoy an occasional break from steamier, darker or more intense novels.
Kita/FMC, a petite woman with long black hair, and her SAR-trained Golden Retriever, Leroy, moved to a small town located in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, Australia with her husband, Will, 5yrs ago. Her husband’s sudden death in a skiing accident 3yrs ago totally devastated Kate causing her to withdraw from everything except her marketing work, which she does from home, and her ongoing volunteer effort with the local SAR unit. James/MMC is divorced, a mechanic and business owner of a local automotive shop. Tall, strongly built with longish-shaggy blond hair snagged into an unkept man-bun, James creates life size scrap metal sculptures in his free time. Responding to a SAR call-out for a missing women, Kita hurries to the automotive garage hoping her malfunctioning vehicle has been repaired. James advises Akita her auto isn’t yet available and offers to drive and contribute in the search effort. Will the urgency and teamwork of search and rescue efforts provide an opportunity for these scarred strangers to move beyond their hurtful pasts and into new possibilities?

Lost and Found is book two in the Love in the Mountains series by Suzanne Cass. A young girl went missing in the snowy mountains, and Kita and her dog Leroy volunteered to help in the search. Kita car was out of action, and she needed a car to get to the search site. Kita seeing James outside his auto shop, asked to rent a car. James decided to take Kita herself to the search site and volunteer to join the search. The readers of Lost and Found will continue to follow James and Kita to find out what happens.
Lost and Found is a fantastic short story that engaged me from the first page. I was unable to put the book down. Lost and Found is well written and researched by Suzanne Cass. I love Suzanne Cass's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. I like Suzanne Cass description of the settings of Lost and Found that allowed me to feel part of the book's plot.
The readers of Lost and Found will understand the role of search and rescue dogs in the snowy mountains. Also, the readers of Lost and Found will learn about doing sculptures in metal.
Kira and her dog, Leroy, joined the SES to help rescue those lost in the mountains. When their first search coincides with her car being in the shop, Kita has to rely on mechanic, James, to drive them to the search area. Kita's husband died three years ago and James' wife divorced him years ago. Both are reluctant to risk their heart again. This is a lovely story about being brave and opening a door to new possibilities.
Each story is stand alone but is set around the one event in this small country town. Such a lovely way to meet the six protagonists in the Love in the Mountain series. I imagine the tracks through the maintains and the weather rolling in, as well as riding the highs and lows with each character.
Two lonely people join together on a mountain search to find a missing person. They soon both realise they’re spending time with someone very special. A well written, quick read that’ll probably take less than an hour from start to finish. Recommended.
