Tonya Maitland learned early that life could either be an adventure or a tragedy. She left the tragic part of her life behind a long time ago and now focuses on the adventure. Her attempt to be one of the best investigative reporters of all time is taking a bit longer than she had planned, but all of that changes when she travels to the small, sleepy town of Yachats, Oregon.
Ashure Waves, King of the Pirates, is also the Keeper of Lost Souls. Despite all the souls within him, the emptiness he feels is suffocating. The ‘gift’ that was passed down to him feels more like a curse. When a drunken wish upon a magic mirror shows him what his heart truly desires, he is both torn and determined to find the woman revealed in the mirror—even if it means leaving the realm of the Seven Kingdoms.
Tonya’s keen eyes discern far more about Ashure than he intended, and he fears the consequences could be dire. When the Pirate King gets close to this street-smart, strong-willed investigative reporter, hilarity ensues! Will Ashure be able to protect Tonya from becoming another lost soul, or will he have to abandon what his heart truly desires in order to save her from himself?

My review :
When a fairytale pirate lands in our magic-less world, will love be enough to woo his ladylove ...
Even if this book is a standalone, I would recommend to anyone to read the whole series as it might help to understand the whole background plot behind this story.
Ashure’s tale is one I have awaited from the very beginning, since he was introduced, he is one character that intrigues and makes you smile. And what a lovely and sweet tale his story is. Ashure is the perfect character right out a fairytale book, he is chivalrous, witty, resourceful and dangerous when time needs. He gives as much as he takes and learning a bit more about him was just a pleasure. He is no complex character with an awful background that changed him in a damaged person. He takes what life threw in his path in stride, making do with it and managing to rise himself with elegance. He never let difficulties affect him, he improved with time and never his good soul was tainted by resentment or greed. He just needs to find his destined soulmate, the one who will quiet the voices in his heart.
Tonya, having not been raised the classic way, was lost at first when she found herself orphaned as a pre-teens, why she didn’t fit in the system until she met the right person, someone who showed her how she could make a difference and she could rely on others. And now, after a trip to fantasyland, she is back to the human world and unable to break her great news. Then a guy from nowhere crashing in her kitchen. From there, it was a fun tale with many interactions, a story of family love, whatever the family is, the one we are born in or the one we create, an account of the weight our actions put on our soul.
I loved the setting of this book was out of the seven kingdoms realm, with Ashure meddling with the humans and his wise view of life. This one story was less a show of magic and power than a summary of the various ranges of love. 5 stars
Slow in the beginning but loved the last half. Like Magda’s story, we spend a fair amount of time in the human realm instead of the Seven Kingdoms. This is only the second book by this author where I have not liked the heroine. No matter how much I have waited and wanted to read Ashure’s story, the first 50% seemed to go at a much slower pace than previous books. I am probably the only one who felt unhappy when I found out Tonya was Ashure’s mate. This is due to her attitude and demeanour from previous books. Her gung-ho reporter, get the story at all costs, even by lying behaviour from earlier books put me off her. I really struggled with the first half of this book, I kept putting it down due to my feelings about Tonya. I just wasn’t happy when she kept encouraging Deputy Dan, in front of Ashure. I especially disliked when she goes from kissing Ashure, to getting ready for a date with Dan. Even though Tonya is likeable enough by the end of the story, I felt no great love, passion or connection with these two. Again, this may be my antipathy towards Tonya. The second half though, proved to be interesting and faster paced and became quite entertaining. I don’t feel like I learnt much more about Ashure than I already knew, except for how close he is to Nali. They seem to be better friends than I thought. I enjoyed how everything played out with all the characters and how Ashure and Tonya help Ramon and his family was sweet. I loved the ending with Magna, Gabe and Kane attending the wedding and that everyone is starting to realise how much they owe Magna. This is rounding off nicely to the final book. Bought through Smashwords.
I adore Ashure! He is funny, street smart, a playful soul but also the biggest heart ever . I love his interactions with Orion and Drago. Unfortunately i wasn't quite a fan of Tanya. I can't quite decide why. Ashure is the keeper of lost souls and when one of them escapes, it nearly costs Tanya and Max his life. Overall, it was a fun, interesting read
Love the series! Ashure was hilarious. He was serious when he needed to be but had a heart of gold. I couldn't put it down.It had me from beginning to the end. I can't wait for the next book.
I love every single series written by this author, but I think the Seven Kingdoms is my favorite now!!! This one brings me to tears at some point, in every single book!!! I knew I would love Ashure's story, no matter who his heroine was. No one could have been more perfect for him than Tonya!! I loved her!!! But together, WOW!! And Xyrie just melted my heart. I love to enter, and for a short while, be a part of this wonderful, magical world, where Unicorns are pure healing magic, and Sea Monkeys run wild!!! This author TAKES YOU THERE!! In the real world, currently ruled by fear of the Coronavirus, I NEED these books. I need the break from reality. Thank God for writers that can take us away from the harsh realities we're living through right now. From the bottom of my my heart, thank you Susan. You are an amazing human being!!!
This tale was my favorite because the Pirate King had to go to Yachats to find his true bonded mate Tonya who will take all the shadows away. Ashure Waves is the Keeper of Lost Souls. His gift must be quieted by joining his soul with Tonya’s. She is an investigative reporter raised by a police officer who is tough and has just returned from an accidental trip to the realm of Seven Kingdoms. Drama and danger is thrown in the mix from Ashure’s realm and Tonya has made enemies during her reporting days. Honesty is not always the best policy when dealing with magic.
I started this series with the first book an from them all up to this one I couldn't wait to read about the pirate. This book was even better then I expected. A must read awesome love story about 2 people from different worlds unique story's for sure. All ready preordered next book
I love the series and couldn’t wait to see Ashure get his comeuppance. The pirate was always my favorite King and his fated mate Tanya was just as irreverent as he was. It was a fascinating tale and so engrossing that once I started I couldn’t stop reading. S. E. Smith is one of my favorite storytellers.
Absolutely loved "A Pirate's Wish". No sooner does one adventure end and another entertaining adventure begins. Ashure, The Pirate King has longed for his true love. Now that he has found her, he will do whatever it takes to keep her forever. Fun and very well written with surprises in every single chapter. Highly recommend this series.
If only I could rate this book with more than 5 stars !!! Susan wrote a wonderful book. It's not only that I couldn't stop laughing, it was what I expected and so much more!!!!!!
I absolutely loved this book, Azhure's story about his life is so sad. I really enjoyed reading about Tonya and his meeting and subsequent story. Looking forward to the next one in this series! They are amazing!
This entire series is one of my absolute favorites, and Ashure’s story fit in beautifully. Taking place on both earth and in the seven kingdoms, this story of mystery and suspense completely captivated me.
This story swept me away. I love the dynamics between all the characters. Just when I thought I figured out who the escaped was, it twisted and was someone else. Very well written.
Was looking forward to this story, a little less than the next one in this series...AND it was such a letdown! I am soooooo disappointed! I was bored, and just wanted to get through it! Saddened!! Let's hope the last one makes up for this one...
Thank you susan, another brilliant story, I havent wanted Ashure story for ages and it was definitely worth it, heart wrenching but well written and very enjoyable
Wonderful book! Rich and lively characters in a rich and lively environment (or two) make this a great addition to the series. I look forward to Nali's story.
Ok book with fab bits. Love Magna, Gabe & Kane scenes. Also Nali scenes & magic time. I also liked when Ashure reveals himself to other humans; Hannibel, Max, Angela & their kids, & finally Deputy Dan. I didn't like Tonya at the beginning; she wanted to stay in the Seven Kingdom yet she was afraid to ask for it. A tough woman like her, afraid to ask for what she wants. That just pissed me off. Also didn't like her denying her attraction to Ashure and her tough-girl act. It's like she still hasn't grown into a woman yet; still a little girl trying to be the tough-girl she is not. I especially loved the Epilogue when past main characters get together for Tonya & Ashure's wedding. I also liked it when Magna was invited as well; she deserve some thanks for saving their kingdoms. I hope once Nali gets a happy ending there will be another book that will show that the Seven Kingdom is willing to invite humans to their world as family vacation, to boost economics & their curiosity about the human world. Magna, Gabe & Kane will deal with the human end while the rest will deal with theirs. Mike's house has been turned into accommodation for Seven Kingdom residents that somehow end up in the human world as well as accommodation for Max & Angela & anyone else who knows about the Seven Kingdom.
