Vampires are back for a reason! Meet the sexy, dark hero Bane in New York Times bestselling author Alyssa Day's smokin'-hot romance.
Bane lost his humanity ages ago. Nothing is more important than protecting his Vampire Motorcycle Club from the death magic invading his territory. The most ancient of vampires, he seeks cold, unfeeling, bloody vengeance...until a frustratingly sexy human doctor is thrust into his path. She tempts Bane to distraction. And distraction is deadly in his world.
Buttoned-up and meticulous Dr. Ryan St. Cloud never thought she’d find herself in the mix of a motorcycle club, let alone one full of terrifyingly badass vampires. Or how intrigued she is by their dark and enigmatic leader, who seems balanced on the knife’s edge of killing her...or claiming her.
But Bane’s choice is harder than it seems, because when that danger hits too close to home, he’s forced to choose between her life and everyone else’s…

Conflicted here. Eye rolls and stereotypical in many ways... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It’s gonna be a little hard to explain my thoughts surrounding this book so I’ll give it my best.
From the beginning several chapters made it seem like this book is a part of a series. I felt like I was supposed to know the characters already but I went back, looked and this is a standalone story. So it was a little tough to get into the book.
It took me probably the first quarter of the book to feel my way through but then I settled in and it started flowing nicely. I actually enjoyed several of the characters. Bane and his crew are tough and they take no grief from each other either.
And then we meet the doctor. She is an anomaly and a major part of the story which I will not spoil for you. But in some places, I really had a hard time with her character. I don’t know why. I can’t really put my finger on it.
I think for the most part she would not listen in times of strife and put others at risk to save her ass. That bothered me.
Yes, she’s tough and she supposed to show strength. But it was over the top. She talks way too much. And while she was a great balance for Bane, and I love their intense and heated connection, she really rubbed me the wrong way.
Bane and Ryan are like fire and water throughout. He is tough with pretty much no heart. She loves to tick him off and push every button she can. Passion and heat are pretty high and make up a lot in terms of the story for me.
Overall Bane's Choice is an enjoyable read, once I got over my annoyances. And it was a great diversion from what I normally read.
Bane’s Choice by Alyssa Day Vampire Motorcycle Club book 1. Spin off from either Warriors series. Paranormal romance. Vampires fighting against evil. Doctor Ryan St Cloud is resistant to a vampires mind persuasion powers which causes her to be temporary kidnapped. The vampires must figure out what to do with her. She’s fascinated by the science of vampires and the sexy man in charge, Bane.
The motorcycle club in this iteration is doing charity and supporting free health clinics and paying for cancer treatments where the family couldn’t otherwise afford it. The vampires are tortured. Not physically but in terms of emotional scarring. The relationship between Bane and Ryan is steamy with plenty of sex scenes. He’s a bit too overbearing and broody. Ryan is smart and funny in her quest to find the science and to doctor everyone. She often puts herself in harms way that isn’t very smart. I found the secondary characters as intriguing with the dress shopping and owing of the free clinic. I loved the virtual reality scene. The dark powers and fighting added to the world building but thought the the villain was over done. 3.5

The Hero:Bane - he is a 300-year-old vampire and is the president of a vampire biker gang. His territory is in Savannah, Georgia and warlocks have been encroaching on his territory, binding humans to them via blood magic and killing even more. He had claimed his territory from warlocks long ago and fought a war with them, coming out the winner. He wouldn’t let them return, though he didn’t understand why they kept trying. He had already beat two other groups of warlocks in the last few years.
The heroine:Ryan - she is a human and a doctor. When men in a motorcycle gang enter the room of one of her burn victims, she is enraged that they are putting him at risk since they are not sterile. She stands up to the leader of the men and he tells her he is coming for her before he disappears with her patient. She doesn’t know it yet, but she is resistant to his compulsion which is something that never happened to Bane before.
The Story: Warlocks are dangerous to vampires due to their blood magic. Humans that are bound to warlocks are nearly as indestructible as vampires. So it was of utmost importance that Bane and his MC deal with the group of warlocks that are trying to move in on their territory. This group has more power than any Bane had felt before, they are led by a master necromancer named Constantine. Though Bane has magic as well.
The story didn’t seem to be that bad, but I found myself getting bored of it fairly early on. I am not sure if it was because of the mood I was in, or if it was the writing. Sometimes when you are in a mood, you just can’t get ‘in’ to a story and that was my problem with this book, though I just couldn’t pinpoint any specific thing that was wrong. Though I didn’t think the vampire seemed as bad as he was made out to be and the heroine was a bit bland. There were also many pop culture references that seemed a bit silly at times…
“Usually only predictors are shifters, like Wolves, Lions and Tigers and Bears.” “Oh my”.
The audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Laurie West. Teddy Hamilton is one of my favorite narrators, he has a great voice and shows a lot of emotion through his narration. I don’t know that I have heard Laurie West before, but she has a good voice for the female characters, but definitely has a frog in her throat when she does the male characters. It was absolutely horrible.
I didn't want this to end up as a DNF but I just can't power through this book anymore. The overall concept for the world the author built was very interesting and did keep me asking questions. I liked that it was a motorcycle club with vampires. I liked the found family aspect to it all. This actually reminded me of J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood books (which I really enjoy!).
What I wasn't captivated by were Bane and Ryan and they were the main characters. It really says something about a book when I was more interested in getting to know the secondary characters and getting their stories rather than stomach Bane and Ryan any longer. Bane was cold and aloof to a degree that wasn't mysterious or sexy. It was just meh. The way Bane kept pointing out how average and plain-looking the heroine was also got on my nerves right off the bat.
Ryan couldn't decide if she was trusting him or not. She got it in her head that everything he asked her to do was an order and therefore she had to go ahead with what she was doing anyway to prove him and sadistic ways wrong. There was one scene (up to the point I read) that he asked her to wait a second outside a door because he had forgotten something in the room they had just left. She then goes into an inner monologue rant and barges into this room. She could have easily gotten beat up for no reason other than Bane wasn't there to explain who she was. This dragged on and was repeated so much that I wanted her to die so I could move on into another character's head.
Now let's talk about characters that I was actually interested in knowing their stories: Meara and Edge! I have SO many questions about what happened to them and if they will eventually get together at some point. I liked them right off the bat unlike the main couple of this book.
One aspect I disliked with a passion of a thousand suns: The Villain POV Chapters. I can count on one hand how many books I've read that had a villain POV that I actually liked and felt added something different to the story. This was not one of them. Edge's POV added more to the story than the villain POV chapters.
Overall, I do intend to give this series another try depending on what the storyline for the next book will be. I liked the writing style enough to want to stick around. Finger's crossed that the next book features a more likable couple.
Side Tangent: Is it just me or does the model on the cover of this book look like the actor (Joseph Morgan) who played Klaus Mikaelson in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals? After I saw it I couldn't unsee it and it only makes me more disappointed because I DNFed this and the cover is beautiful!
It’s been a very long time since I have read anything by Alyssa Day, but I remember really enjoying her Paranormal Romance books in the past, so I thought that I would give this new series a shot. BANE’S CHOICE is book one in the Vampire Motorcycle Club. And obviously, the series title totally caught my attention. But I’m afraid that I may have had some high expectations because I was a little disappointed in this book.
It’s definitely not a terrible book by any means, but I did feel like there was a lot of info dumping in the beginning and also just a big mixture of different creatures. There’s mention of witches and warlocks and even necromancers. I guess I had the wrong idea that this would just be a vampire romance series. So if you’re going into this series thinking the same thing, there’s actually quite a lot of other paranormal creatures involved as well.
As for Day’s writing, I liked it. I kind of wished that it would be smoother just because the dialogue felt quite choppy to me. Bane didn’t completely win me over, but I think that’s also because of his roughness. It’s been a while since I’ve read a hero who just doesn’t seem to care. Overall, I liked it, but I would’ve liked more polished writing and characters. I will keep reading the series though and see what the next book will have in store for readers.
Three and a half I have been thoroughly entertained by this authors Warriors of Poseidon series so was very excited to read this book. The idea of a motorcycle club in romance isn't unique but making that club a mixture of both Vampires and Humans was to me very different. Yes its a paranormal romance but there's also the fact that women are being murdered and it looks as if Bane himself is the reason for it ! Look I'm going to be brutal and say I really didn't like Bane. From the start he's this heartless guy who doesn't care if those following him die. I personally wouldn't feel any loyalty towards someone like that so really didn't understand why others followed him. Yes meeting Ryan does eventually soften him slightly but honestly my initial impression of Bane soured him for me. Ryan is this take charge doctor who doesn't know how to back down and I do get that having the power of quite literally life or death can make many a little arrogant. She's determined to save her patient but she's stepped or rather been pulled into a world from her wildest nightmares. There is something definitely different about Ryan that's mentioned a few times in the beginning and then ignored almost until the end of the story which felt a little uneven to me as I wish it had been commented on a little more. This couple are quite funny though and their interactions frequently made me smile. Bane just keeps pushing and their mutual attraction is palpable. A jealous Vampire is a very possessive one ! As it's the first in this new series we meet supporting characters who clearly have secrets to tell and I look forward to reading how everything develops as the series progresses. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
When I read that Bane's Choice was "Sons of Anarchy meets True Blood in this sexy new series that is sure to captivate readers everywhere" I was on board!! A vampire MC was very appealing!
The book started slow for me. I just couldn't seem to get into it right away. However, it eventually picked up and I was more interested. I totally got a little bit of a Sookie Stackhouse vibe when it came to the heroine of Bane's Choice, Ryan. She has a little something "extra". But, there are lots of comparisons to the True Blood series: all kinds of different creatures, a vampire who is disenchanted, etc. I loved the Sookie Stackhouse books, so this worked for me.
There isn't much of the MC, however. I expected it to be more of a focus, but it is really just glossed over. Again, this wasn't a huge deal breaker for me because I enjoyed the rest of the story, but I certainly didn't get a sons of anarchy vibe.
If you like PNR and diversity in your creatures, Bane's Choice is a solid pick! While I struggled with the pacing, I enjoyed the plot and characters!
POV: dual 1st Tears: no Trope: vampires Triggers: no Series/Standalone: stand alone Cliffhanger: HEA:
The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, The Dark Series by Christine Feehan, ...then you will probably like Bane's Choice!

𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄
When forces in league to destroy him lead him to his future ...
This is my first read by the author, and while the beginning confused me a bit, I thought I missed some intel first, but I quickly understood it was intended, to add a veil of mystery over the many new characters. Bane is introduced as the ultimate alpha, as he cared for nothing than his territory, only the land, not the people. A big bad wolf hunting along the woods he peed in. When he is so much more, straightly the opposite of uncaring as he promptly demonstrated by rushing to save a dying human. After one does not survive and live more than three hundreds years without being a bit conceited and high-handed. And Ryan reveals the teddy bear in him, well a grouchy bear, around her he is bewildered, bewitched. A snarling bear defending his dominion. Ryan is the conundrum of this tale, why is she immune to him, and the others. Why can’t he swap her memory, his Men-In-Black internal Neuralyzer device does not work on her. She is no badass heroine, she helps people, care for them. Her heart is her weapon. But Bane awakens the warrior in her, she stands her ground and despite her fears, she never backs off.
I have read some reviewers wondering why they let it pass this “detail”, but the span of time of the main action is at the longest three days. When over this brief period, they hunt a necromancer, they monitor a peculiar vampire turn, and Ryan upsets Bane’s world, her particularities intriguing him.
I loved every second of my reading, I can’t wait to learn more about Edge, Meara, Luke, Hunter and Reynolds, even if he is no vampire. My only complaint was the climatic battle was not so epic, and the ending a bit rushed. Outside this, what a fun introduction to a new group of characters. 4.5 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the publisher Entangled, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
Jesus Christ did this book have a lot going on. If the author had restrained herself in, idk, maybe 5 things instead of 500 things, the book would have been better, plot wise, bc I always wanted to know what was happening. It was just too much happening at once and too much left unanswered.
And idk if I care enough to read more of the series.
I started out as a fan of Alyssa Day’s Warriors of Poseidon series—the books are all carefully lined up on my keeper shelf in my office—and she’s definitely hooked me with this new series: BANE’S CHOICE. Bane is a vampire like no other, 300 years old, he’s forgotten what it’s like to feel human, in fact, to feel anything at all. Yet he cares for people without being truly aware of his need to do good. When he ends up colliding with a female doctor who stands up to him without fear, he’s not quite sure how to handle her. He knows he’ll have to kill her at some point—she knows too much about his world—but he can’t quite bring himself to do it. At least not yet.
Dr. Ryan St. Cloud has never been a beauty, never taken chances, and generally thinks of herself as “Reliable Ryan,” a good doctor but boring personified, and yet her strange meeting with the powerful vampire changes her life in ways she never imagined. And I can say, without a spoiler, this book has a twist I didn’t see coming, but it is absolutely perfect, and adds so much more to the reliable doctor’s character.
Bane’s Choice has it all, with an opening that sucks the reader into a violent battle between good and evil where the vampires are definitely the good guys, and the bad guys are truly awful. Set in Savannah, Georgia with wonderful, fully formed characters that practically leap off the page and a non-stop plot that doesn’t slow up for a second, it had me hanging on for dear life until the very end.
It’s always fun to read the first in a new series, especially when is as sharply written as this one. There’s humor and drama, some bloodthirsty battles, and the sweetest intimate scenes between the vampire and his doctor that will have you rooting for the two of them, no matter how hopeless it seems.
I will never grow tired of the wonderful paranormal worlds that talented authors create. My hat’s off to Alyssa Day who is completely unable to write a book that’s less than amazing. Five very well earned stars, and a definite recommendation.
This was just ok. I didn’t really like the cover to be honest. I felt like the writing was somewhat immature and over sexed. Especially since Bane was supposed to be over 300 years old.
It could of been a lot better.
Thanks to Entangled Publishing LLC via Netgalley for this book. I’ve voluntarily given my honest review.
3.75 stars--BANE’S CHOICE is the first instalment in Alyssa Day’s contemporary, adult VAMPIRE MOTORCYCLE CLUB paranormal, romance series. This is three hundred year old vampire, and VMC president Bane, and physician Dr. Ryan St. Cloud’s story line.
Told from several third person perspectives including Bane and Ryan BANE’S CHOICE follows the building romance between three hundred year old vampire, and VMC president Bane, and physician Dr. Ryan St. Cloud. Bane’s friend Hunter Evans was burned so badly he would never survive but a quick trip to the hospital to bring home his friend, is anything but when Bane comes face to face with Dr. Ryan St. Cloud, and finds himself in a stand off with a feisty woman who may or may not be completely human. Unable to control her mind, Bane quickly realizes that there is much more to Ryan than he could have imagined. Hoping to see Dr. St. Cloud again, Bane sets out to locate the woman that stirs something deep within our story line hero but all is not well in Bane’s territory when warlocks, necromancers, and a group that call themselves the Chamber enter into a battle to take over Bane’s territory. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Bane and Ryan, and the potential fall-out as the fight for Bane’s territory pulls Ryan in as collateral damage.
Ryan St. Cloud is a physician but has no idea that she is something more. Quickly accepting the existence of vampires and werewolves, Ryan’s jump into the supernatural quickly turns onto herself when she defends the man and the family with whom she is falling in love. Bane is the President of the Vampire Motorcycle Club, a biker club hiding in plain sight although a number of their members are only human. Never having fallen in love, Bane is caught off-guard when he meets Dr. Ryan St. Cloud, a woman who is more than she appears to be. Believing Ryan is his fated mate, Bane goes all alpha and over protective but it is Ryan’s power that will that will draw trouble to their front door.
The relationship between Ryan and Bane is one of immediate attraction but Ryan struggled with Bane’s ‘kidnapping’ of her severely injured patient. Unable to explain their palpable sexual attraction, Ryan moves into Bane’s mansion in an effort to stay close to the injured man. As Ryan and Bane’s attraction builds, threats from an outside source release Ryan’s power, and with it the realization about who and what our heroine might be. The Sex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Bane’s family: vampires Meara, Edge and Luke as well as their human housekeepers Mr. and Mrs. C. There is a large assortment of werewolves including alpha Carter Reynolds of the Wolf Pack MC. The requisite evil has many faces including warlocks, necromancer and members of the group known as The Chamber.
BANE’S CHOICE is a story of betrayal and revenge; secrets, magic, power and control. The premise is engaging but struggles between sluggish and energetic; the romance is intimate; the characters are energetic and dynamic-Ryan’s need to call it she sees is often fun and snarky.
I would like to add that the ‘motorcycle club’ aspect of the story line is limited, and definitely not akin to the usual MC story lines. The motorcycle club plot point is negligible, and more of a background element than anything else.
Bane’s Choice is book one in the new series: Vampire Motorcycle Club by Alyssa Day. The story focuses on Bane a centuries old vampire and Doctor Ryan St. Cloud. Bane is the quintessential, arrogant male who at the beginning of the story comes across as really angry and in need of revenge. Being part of a MC also means that he has a lot of people to look after but at times he can come across quite heartless as he doesn’t really care about who dies in his club except a few close ‘friends’. The story starts strong with us being encapsulated in a paranormal story where all the things that go bump in the night live and breathe in a modern world, but don’t necessarily get on.
We’re introduced to the head strong Doctor St. Cloud when Bane barges into her hospital trying to help his seriously injured friend and tried to glamour the head strong doctor, which just doesn’t work. Here, Ryan enters a world that she never knew existed while questioning everything she knows and her sanity. But like most paranormal books, the human isn’t going to be left alone and she is dragged into Bane’s world, albeit a little bit reluctantly.
There is a lot going on in this novel (mainly due to the fact that it’s the first in a series), not only do we have the building love story between Ryan and Bane, we also have the fight for territory between the supernatural factions going on as well. As a reader I was a little confused at the beginning as you really do jump into the middle of the story before really knowing anything about Bane and his MC, but more info comes out throughout the story which helps to place where people belong and a little bit of their history.
This is an exciting new read with a twist on the traditional MC book. If you like your men broody and your women headstrong, then this is the one for you!
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊
I have to admit that in the last few years I haven't been into vampire romances as much as I was before. Not sure why they just don't call me like they used to. I'm sure that I'll get back to them big again. You know the saying 'what goes around, comes around' and that's so true.
But since it was Alyssa Day who wrote it and I've loved her other stuff I knew I had to try it and I'm glad I did. It was written with Day's fair for putting together a well-written story that you find yourself enjoying.
I really liked the idea of the storyline but at times I felt the author had so much story in her mind that she rushed to get it all on the pages. I felt at times dropped in and like I was supposed to know who was who and why. It wasn't even like the author was putting a ton in because its the first book in the series, it was almost like I missed a book or two
I really liked Bane and at times Ryan too. Sometimes she got on my last nerve but I enjoyed how they are together so I forgave that. I wasn't sure in the beginning they'd work but soon found that they did. There are characters you meet in the book that you want to know about so they help you enjoy the story.
For me, Bane's Choice was like a motorcycle ride. It started off slightly slow, it finally picked up but might have moved a little too fast. I was hoping for a little more information about everything and then finally rushed to the end and stopped. Maybe a little too quickly. I felt it was missing more.
This isn't a bad start to a new series and I hope that the next book is a little better now that the author has figured out some of her world. I guess we'll see with the next book. I enjoyed it but wished for a little more.
This is a tough one to review. The story begins with some decent action, which is always good. But it was also confusing. Bane was a vampire and had magic and could fly but the other vampires did not have these traits. It wasn't until much later that some casual references are thrown in about different magical skills. Maybe I'm being too picky with the world building, or lack thereof. Basically there are vampires, werewolves, warlocks, necromancers, etc. in the regular world. That's pretty much it.
We see Ryan for the first time when her patient is whisked away by Bane in an effort to save him because he was one of his very few friends he cared about. But how did Bane become friends with a human? There was no background info on this. Its also never explained why his friend's Turning didn't go well. It almost seemed like the issue was created just to give the main characters something to work on together, which is fine. But an answer would've been even better. I don't like loose ends.
Now, I did like Ryan. She was a hoot. I liked her humor and inner monologue. She didn't take any of Bane's bossiness without pushing back. But I am not a fan of insta-love. And Bane did not really demonstrate anything worthy of falling in love so quickly other than being really hot.
Once the story started going it did get up to a nice pace. For a while I was concerned about the ending, thinking things would be unresolved. But that was not the case although there was a hook for the next book letting you know the story was not really over. I felt there was too much inner turmoil for Bane, which was a current stream of self recriminations thinking he was not good enough for Ryan, she was in danger because of him and so forth. He was tough in a fight and over the top protective, but it sort of felt superficial.
Overall, not a bad book, just nothing that really wowed me.
Warriors of Poseidon by Alyssa Day is one of my all time favorite series. So when I saw that she was writing a brand new series, I jumped at the chance to read an early copy. Plus Vampire Motorcycle Club is an eye catching series title.
Although it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I have read plenty of motorcycle club books and this is not that. Is there a motorcycle club? Yes. But it is nothing like a "typical" MC. Bane is the head of the club. He is a vampire that has been alive for 300 plus years and he doesn't have emotions.. until he meets doctor Ryan. Ryan brings out a lot of emotions in him. Ryan is a human doctor who was in the wrong place and the right time. She was taking care of a patient when Bane shows up and take her patient! Ryan won't have it.
I am going to be honest, I didn't fully love either of the MCs. It felt like Bane was trying too hard to be a hard man... and Ryan accepted everything too easily and put herself in danger just because she thought she could go up against a vampire. So they annoyed me a little bit. BUT I loved the other characters. I loved the storyline. I can't wait for the next book!
Thank you netgalley for my early copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Given my recent deep dive into her Tiger's Eye Mystery series, I wanted to read some of her backlist. Thanks to long library holds, I instead chose the first book of her new Vampire Motorcycle Club series. I enjoyed the story. A vampire, Bane - head of a vampire motorcycle club - raids a hospital to save/change a badly injured human who once saved his life. There he meets a doctor, Ryan St. Cloud, who is more than she seems. If the book had stayed on this path, I could have loved it. Yet, there's also a deep (yet incomplete) backstory for all the vampire motorcycle club, fighting sorcerers and necromancers (for past reasons and underdeveloped bad organizations), drug dealing but only the good kind, zombies, werewolves, something else that is too big a spoiler to reveal, and a huge host of other plot deviations that while fun made for a jumbled story that left too many threads dangling. Alyssa Day writes great dialog, and I laughed out loud more than once. I just wish there was more between Bane and Ryan to build the romance. I liked the secondary characters enough to read the next one for sure.
When Bane goes to the hospital to take his mortally wounded friend in the hopes of turning him, he meets the fiery Dr. Ryan St. Cloud. Intelligent, sassy, and fierce, Ryan is the first person in a long time to challenge Bane, and he is instantly intrigued. Who is this fascinating and intelligent woman, and why does she move him so? On top of that, how does she resist his powers, and why does she glow?
Ryan is shocked when she sees a stranger trying to steal her patient. However, she never expected to be thrust into a world of vampires and a supernatural battle for power. She also never expected to fall for the mysterious and handsome kidnapper. As her feelings for Bane grow, can Ryan protect her heart and her patient?
Ryan is such an interesting character and one of my favorites in the story. A human immersed in a supernatural world that was previously unknown to her, Ryan hides her fear and stands up to Bane and his intimidating peers. I like her gumption, her take-charge personality, and her humor. I love how Ryan’s humor and sarcasm not only brings a bit of light-heartedness to the story, but it also breaks down the wall that Bane built around his heart. As the leader of his motorcycle club and head of his household, Bane shoulders a lot of responsibility, and, as a long-living vampire, he’s experienced a lot of loss. Ryan makes him feel things he hasn’t felt in a long time, and Bane makes Ryan feel desired. They fill voids in each other’s lives, challenge each other, and are really attracted to each other, which leads to a chemistry-laden romance. Get a fan, because Ryan and Bane’s sexy scenes are swoon-tastic!
Bane’s sister Maera is another intriguing character. Like Ryan, Maera is a strong, independent woman who is unwilling to bend to the alpha males that fill her life. She is loyal to a fault and respected by her family. Sharp and fierce, Maera is also vulnerable and loving. Though Maera isn’t the main focus of the story, she leaves a strong impression, and I’m hopeful that her story will be further explored in future books. I also like that Ryan and Maera developed a friendship. Often, women become competition or rivals in romance novels, and I like that the author took Ryan and Maera’s relationship in a different direction.
Other minor characters, like Edge, Mrs. C, and Luke are dynamic additions to the story, and their camaraderie is funny and heart-warming. I also like the plot, which includes a battle for power among the supernatural. Warlocks and necromancers threaten the precarious peace among the vampires and wolves. As the battle heats up, Bane and his family must do everything they can to protect their people as well as themselves, which grows increasingly more difficult.
Bane’s Choice is a well-paced, immersive, and sexy story that will appeal to readers of supernatural romance. The story wraps-up nicely while still leaving some questions unanswered, which I liked. I’m curious to learn more about Ryan. What is she? How does she resist the powers of the vampires? What will happen to Maera and her potential love interest? Will the warlocks cause more trouble? I can’t wait to find out! Thanks so much to Netgalley, Alyssa Day, and Entangled Publishing for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you, Alyssa Day! This is the sexy vampire fantasy novel I’ve been missing. I have stopped reading some well known vampire series because I just couldn’t take the alpha never learning to give a little with his true love or there being so much sex and barely any story. Day has found the perfect balance of an alpha not locking his love up so no one hurts them (although he wants to) and lots of great storylines to go with the steamy scenes.
And to go along with the great character development, Day actually incorporates a fantasy world that incorporates more than just vampires and/or werewolves. This opens up so many potential storylines and love matches that I am excited to see what Day has in store for us. The action scenes were excellent and I love that Day included two human caretakers who may be younger than the vampires, but help to keep them stable, and are still wonderfully racy for an older couple.
The reader may be dropped into the middle of the action without one hundred pages of back story before, but I think Day is able to pull it off. She works the back story in as the book progresses, and leaves some of the characters with a bit of mystery about them at the end. But if you’ve read any romance you should be able to see the pairings that will be coming and have an inkling of their dramatic/tragic backstory.
I’m going to start online stalking (but in a nice way) Day so I can find out when the next VMC book is coming. And since this is the first book I’ve read by her, I’m intrigued to read some more of her stories.
This story is exactly what I expected from Alyssa. And if you like her Poseidon series, you will like this one. Strong friendships, family and hot romance. This story is about Bane, a Vampire who leads a Motorcycle gang who are mostly vampires and their fight, along with other supernatural groups, against evil. Dr. Ryan St. Cloud (female) is the love interest. She is a strong and smart woman. I enjoyed the action and characters a lot.
It’s so funny to me that I accidentally read book number 2 before this one (book 1) and still I understood the second one better. And also enjoyed it more. This series doesn’t have like the deepest nor the best written plot of all times… but let me tell you, it’s a fun new. I already hooked.
This story starts out with a bang and captures the reader. I really enjoyed the authors take on vampires and the cross over to MC clubs. While I was a bit taken aback at the beginning as the story just jumps you right into the action, it did level out and become an interesting and fun read. I liked the dynamics of the different supernatural creatures and how the author took everyday life and warped it just a bit to including the character in this story. There is extraordinarily little world building at the beginning we learn it along the way and that made it difficult at times to understand if what was mention was important or just passing knowledge. That said I really loved the action within this story, it balanced well with the vampires, MC, and their enemies. The characters are unique, and bold and I really enjoyed their interactions with each other. The doctor was a bit hard to take at times, but she found her way. There are moments of strife, twists and turns and enough angst to make this story enjoyable. I would recommend it to lovers of the supernatural, MC club and actions readers. I received an ARC vis NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC and I am leaving an honest review. 3.75 stars.
Our H, who cares about no-one, except for that person, and that person, and those people, and oh yeah, that person there (admit it, you aren't the unfeeling bastard you claim to be), discovers one of those people he "doesn't care about" was badly injured in a fire and not expected to make it, so he goes off to collect and turn him (after asking permission of course). Whilst in the hospital, he runs into The One Person He Can't Compel, and she isn't having any of his carting her patient off. He somehow manages to get her to sleep long enough to make his escape. His cleanup guy comes around later to make sure nobody remembers any of this and thinks he's successfully made her forget.
Our h is resistant to everything because she's a very special kind of snowflake of the more ah...well, she ain't exactly human either but she doesn't know it. She remembers *everything* about this and is freaking out because the patient has ceased to exist (no files, nobody remembers him, etc.).
The H has his moments where he's all weird, particularly when it comes to her. The other vampires who live with him are looking at him strangely because of this. She calls him on it whenever he crosses the line (which is often).
Two things never addressed - her life span, and, if he was able to do that at the end, why didn't he do it earlier in the battle and save them all some aggravation? Also, were they inside or out when the bad guys appeared?
Bane's Choice was a really fun read! I don't normally read paranormal romance, bug I am so glad I picked up this book.
Bane, his fellow vampire family and friends, and his Vampire Motorcycle Club make their home in Savannah, Georgia. They aren't the only supernatural beings there either. They are all threatened when the mysterious Chamber sends necromancers to town.
I enjoyed the mystery and action element to the story just as much as the romance between Bane and Ryan. She is a doctor who seems to be the only person resistant to his gift of compulsion and other vampire gifts like changing her memories.
Ryan is a relatable character. She is smart and believes in helping others through her work as a doctor. However, she doesn't have much confidence in herself. I liked seeing her grow and come into her own as the story progressed. She is willing to stand up for herself even against Bane and the other vampires.
While this is predominantly Bane and Ryan's POV, you do get a little bit from other characters and I can't wait to read their books. I also hope there will be more from the Warewolf Motorcycle Club members as well.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for an honest review.
A fight between good and evil This was my first experience with this author and I enjoyed every minute of it. With no hesitation the author thrust us right into the thick of things and then filled in from there. The characters are well developed, and I enjoyed the way they thought and the way the interacted throughout the book. I love how there are moments of humor to even out the drama and the action and danger are at an all time high. The author kept me glued to my ebook from the first page to the last and I can’t wait to see what she does with all the possible stories in her next book.
There were many things I liked about this book. The writing, for one, was great, and Bane was delicious. But it wasn't enough to truly transport me. The plot didn't feel fresh and I'm not the greatest fan of insta-love, even when it's brought about by some supernatural force.
