Even better than The Rogue King!

When I read The Rogue King a year ago, I think it was my first dragon shifter book. I really enjoyed it because it wasn’t just a story about a shifter and his mate, it was more of an urban fantasy about the entire kingdom and the struggles both of them had gone through and were going through. This book furthered the storylines started in the first book and there was a ton of chemistry between the couple involved.

In the first book, the The Rogue King was Brand Asterot, who ran from the Gold Kingdom and became a rogue dragon shifter when his family was murdered in order to put sympathizers to the Red King on the Throne. Though Brand is the rightful heir to the Gold Throne, dragons don’t trust Rogues. Though Brand was friends with the Blue King (who recently took that throne back from the Red King sympathizer).

In order to cement his place on the throne, the Blue King asked Brand to find him a Phoenix because legend says that if a Dragon King mates with a Phoenix and doesn’t burn to ash, he is the High King. Currently the Red King is the High King, and he stole that power when he murdered the former High King and his Phoenix Mate. The Red King tried to murder their daughter at the time but she got away, though not before he murdered her mate, the White King. Though their bond hadn’t fully formed so she didn’t die when her mate did.

She hid away and had quadruplets, which is unheard of for a Phoenix. In the past Phoenix births have only been single births and daughters, but this time there were four daughters. Years later the Red King tracked her down and killed her but as she was dying she teleported to her girls and sent them each to a different safe place. None of them know if they are the Phoenix or if more than one of them is.

When The Rogue King found the oldest daughter Kasia Amon, they discovered they were mates and so he couldn’t give her to the Blue King as he had promised. I won’t go further into the first book, but to say that the second daughter, Skylar Amon finds out that her sister is mated to a dragon shifter king and figures that it must be under duress. So she leaves the place she was hiding and goes to the mountain where the Blue Dragons live to save her.

This is where Skylar meets the Blue King, Ladon Ormarr, and he immediately claims her for himself. Though she rejects that just as quickly. The sparks fly between them from the start. Skylar is tough, she is a skilled fighter, and she is smart. Ladon is trying to do what is right for his people and trying to defeat the tyranny of the Red King. This book is exiting, the character development is terrific, the romance moves along at a great pace and it just hits all those good points in a book that I just really enjoy. The next book sounds even better. Forbidden love between the third sister and the Black King’s top enforcer/adviso.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

The Blood King by Abigail Owen

2nd book in the Inferno Rising series. Fantasy dragon shifter romantic suspense. Should be read in series order.

A lot of pieces. A complex layering of strategies. Gamesmanship. Chess is used as a layering piece by the author and characters to strategize.
Unfortunately it’s winning at a level where treachery is high and power is the ultimate gamble.
Red, Gold, Blue, Green, Black and White dragon clans fight for domination hoping one of the Phoenix sisters will be able to create a higher power.
Skylar and Ladon are the main Phoenix and dragon to mate and fall in love in the book in the series. The couple from the previous book play key roles and we finally get to meet the other two sisters.
A cliffhanger for the series but these two lovers are mates and set as King and Queen of their dragon clan.

Engrossing and complex power struggles. Romantic potential sacrifices that remain unneeded. The evil dragon remains ....until the next book and match.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

You gotta love the haters to lovers trope. Much like the first book, we have a plentiful mix of sexual tension and supernatural politics. And while we've always known there was more to this world than dragons and humans, we get further glimpses here.

I'm not sure if I like this quite as much as the first one in this series, but it is pretty close. Same, fast-paced action and shifter romance we've come to expect from dear Ms. Owen.

Characters:
Skylar is protector of the four sisters. She has always been the tough one, the fighter. Everything she does she does with the intention of protecting her family. All her life she has been taught to mistrust dragon shifters, especially kings, which makes the prospect of marrying one very low on her list of things to do.

Ladon is reluctant ruler of the Blue Dragon Clan. He never wanted power. But he took the throne to help save his people. And now he must continue to fight for it at every turn. Having a phoenix on his side is the perfect way to maintain faith in his rule, but Ladon gets far more than he bargained for when he meets Skylar.

The ending leaves us with a lot of questions, and I am very curious about how things will from here.

I received a free ARC copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Huge thank you to the publishers Entangled: Amara for providing me with a copy to read and review!

Pfew! The adventure continues and it's freaking awesome!

After that finale in book one I was dying to get my hands on this book.
Ladon The Blood King has found his own phoenix and his match , that's for sure.
Skylar Amon is Kasia's sister , black hair, blue eyes, strong willed, stubborn and a true fighter. She comes to the Blue Clan mountain to save her sister, believing Kasia has been forced to mate the dragon but soon she discovers, that isn't true at all, her sister is happy mated and not brainwashed by the dragons at all. Now she finds herself claimed by Ladon on sight.

Ladon realizes that this tactic is not the best when it comes to Sky , that he has to work really hard to crack her walls and gain her trust, but he is willing to do so is she will gave him a chance.

Because of an unexpected threat, they have to mate really soon and work on their blooming relationship later.

"This phoenix, who was his mate, his queen, was quickly becoming his greatest weakness.
And he didn’t give a fuck. Not so long as she was his."

I loved Ladon. He is a dedicated king, powerful and respected , possessive of his new mate and really gentle and caring with her. I didn't liked so much Slylar because of all the push and pull and mixed signal she gave. She is one of those characters that thinks she knows all and her truth is the only one ( at least in the beginning of the book). This couple had chemistry in spades, sizzling lust and sex scenes and I am glad they worked it out.

"Skylar stepped in closer, speared her hands through his hair, and tugged his head down so she could kiss him. Gods he tasted good—like man,and dragon, and…hers."

New allegiance are formed, new character introduced and I have a vague idea who is gonna end up with whom. The Rooting King is still there, so the plot continues in that direction.

This author is really good with her cliffhangers. I am eager to read the next book after the last chapter, and OH MY GOD I have to wait until next year.

Overall, very entertaining series, with complex and likable characters and a story line that grips you!

‘The Blood King’ was the perfect follow-up to ‘The Rogue King’ in the Inferno Rising series. It follows the journey of Skylar, one of the quadruplets (all sisters) whose mother was known as the last known phoenix in the world before her death, coming to the aid of Kaisa who she believed was forced to mate Brand. During the course of the not-so-happy reunion, she meets the Blood King, Landon, and then woo-wee! It starts to get muy caliente!

The oozing sexual tension, the back and forth banter, and the storyline captivated me from the get-go. On top of that, my love for this fantasy novel only grew when the readers were introduced to Skylar. She was a badass in every single way and it was impossible not to love this strong, sassy heroine who took shit from no one including her destined mate.

Now the only downside to this is the fact that readers will have to wait another year to read the next phoenix Meira and Samael, Captain of the Guard of King of the Black Clan, story. It’s going to be a long time coming but I am sure it'll be worth the wait.

Skylar has snuck into the Lair of the Blue Dragons and is determined to rescue her sister. Trouble is Kasia doesn't want to be rescued because she's quite happy right there with Brand, her Dragon Mate .Things quickly escalate though when the somewhat reluctant King of the Blue Dragons Ladon realises that another Phoenix has fallen into his lap and this time he's prepared to risk everything to hold onto her no matter what his Clan might think.
This is a fun world that the author has created with fated Mates, Dragons, magic and of course not just one Phoenix but four ! I quite liked that we got a lot more of the evil High King and those around him as it made him much more three dimensional. The romance is incendiary as this couple truly are drawn together and whilst love isn't instant as a reader it certainly had all the feels that I desire. Characters are introduced that I sincerely hope the author reprises and its pretty clear that the next sisters book is not too far away. Romance, action and world building with great characters all fighting for a happy ending what is there not to like ?
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Ladon has finally met his match, in more ways than one and the feisty, fiery Skylar Amon is just as determined to avoid any commitment with the fierce dragon king. She is a phoenix on a mission to avenge her parents’ death and reunite her sisters, but does she have what it takes besides determination?

Abigail Owen’s THE BLOOD KING is filled with razor-sharp banter, inner dialogue that feels like neither Ladon or Skylar are really prepared for what Fate has in store for them. And the tension between these two? Off the charts!

A fun read that is filled with strong, passionate characters, sibling misunderstandings and royal battles that will pit dragon against dragon in the ultimate challenge for power. Abigail Owen knows how to weave a tale of heat, heart and humor. Her characters have that special spark of chemistry that is explosive and if you have ever wondered what flying with a dragon would be like? Well, hang on tight and don’t look down!

First Impressions
the Blood King is the second book in the Inferno Rising series and this book features Dragon King Ladon, and Skylar Amon. And this book has a blend of tropes that are featured and I was so intrigued into seeing how these two would work together because Skylar is a badass phoebix and too stubborn for her own good, and mix that in with a royal dragon alpha and you know that the tension is going to be real. I actually really loved this one here. I was so intrigued by what is implemented and the set up of their story. You also get plenty of more serial plot lines dealing with our villain of the story. I was so intrigued by the chemistry that is built but we also see the other Amon sisters which was also fun. It was such a fun time to get back to this series as I had a fun time with the first book. I am really curious to see where this author will be taking this series as the built up so far has left me intrigued.

Summary
Our story sets off with our heroine Skylar Amon, who thought that she needed to rescue her sister, but ends up realizing that her sister is with her mate willing but truths come to light during an altercation with Ladon, and there is a agreement made for a marriage/mating of convenience and that they could be destined mated. Ladon knows that he is taking a risk by mating Skylar, as if his instincts are wrong, then he will end up burned alive. But there is something strong that is pulling him to Skylarm, and he knows that they are meant to be together. But as Skylar and Ladon learn each other and start to build a budding trust, but right when they are ready to fulfill their mating and destiny, Skylar is taken in the midst of a battle, and she will have to use everything she is capable of to survive, and we see the determination of King Ladon to find his mate and fully complete their mating and embrace their future together.

What I Loved
There was some great qualities to this book that really worked for me so well. I was so fascinated by this pair but i also was intrigued to see where their story would build to. They have some fun altercations with each other in the beginning. They are both such strong personalities, and are also trained fighters and boy do they get into it which only builds their fiery chemistry. I was so fascinated by this pairing, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Skylar at first, but her character ended up really working out for me so well. I was also intrigued to see the way in which the sisters would get together and be reunited and who the other kings would be that would end up with the other two women. Which to be honest the personalities of the younger sisters I relate better with so I am very fascinated to see how that will work out in the end. The romance that is developed in the Blood King, is where they have powerful chemistry, but they have to work on the relationship and building that level of trust. I really wanted to see them come together, but the built-up sexual tension was done just right and I just wanted to see more of them together. We also get introduced to future characters that from what I can tell will play prominent roles in the books to come up next.

The Narration
I really had a fun time with the duo POV narration. Whenever there is dual POV, I do love it when they use two different narrators and I felt like these two have great magic together and really worked so well to adjust to their personalities and bring everything in focus and really made the level of intensity and world building so visualized,

Overall View
The Blood King is a thrilling adventure that brings strength of characters, building of intrigue into the plot building, and a mating bond worth protecting and will fire up the reader into wanting to cheer our characters on.

So I'll be honest, I had misread the description and I didn't know this was a dragon shifter book. I'm not a very big fan of shifter books. So I was a little bummed when I started reading. However, the doubts flew out the window like the fastest bird in the world. I LOVED this ARC. I started reading this yesterday and I finished yesterday. It was so good I couldn't stop reading.

The writing style is great and makes for an easy read and the characters are wild, unique and sexy as hell. Move over Skylar, Ladon is mine, mine, mine! Those two together make for great fireworks and I loved to see their relationship built and change. What I loved most about it though, is the maturity in this book when it comes to their relationship. Books like these with explicit sex scenes can easily become awkward and are often written horribly. I am not a big fan of steamy scenes but I loved those in this ARC. There are several but they are not undermining the plot. The plot is solid but for me but it lacked a bit of background information. So while this book can be read as a standalone, I think it would be better to read the books in order.

I have certainly become a big fan of dragon shifter books and I cannot wait to read the other books in this series. I loved it from the very first to the very last page. I'm looking forward to see how these books end and how each sister finds her path in life.

I'm excited because I have found a new author who does PNR really well. I love dragon shifter books and I felt like this was a fresh take on dragons.

The heroine was awesome! I love a female lead who can kick butt just as much as the male lead. There is one particular fight scene that I got suck a kick out of and thought her gift was used creatively.

The male lead character had a great mix of tough, possessiveness along with a softer side for the heroine. It's not a mix that is always easy to find. I enjoyed his character very much.

I haven't read the first book but I had no problems understanding what was going on. I will go back and read it since I ended up liking the heroine for that book as well. She got a lot of play time in this one.

The next book that was cued up at the end of this one has a softer heroine, so I will be interested to see where the author will take this after two books with strong heroines.

‘Dragons needed to fly, their souls craving the sky like the body needed the blood in its veins.’

The Blood King by Abigail Owen is the second book in the dragon shifter romance series, Inferno Rising. Whilst this series can be read as standalone’s we urge you to read this series in order as whilst each book is about a different couple, the crux of the storyline is one that continues. We love a good shifter romance and this series is why. Fabulously written with action, drama, mystery and heat, it feels like pure fantasy indulgence. The world-building throughout the books has been brilliant!

‘Kasia was the courageous one. Meira the brains. And Angelika the heart. But Skylar was the protector…With their mother gone, if she didn’t protect her sisters, who else would?’

What we know: in the beginning, 4 sisters were sent to different parts of the world by their phoenix mother who was dying in order to escape the evil High King. We won’t go into too much detail as the last thing we want to do is leave spoilers for you. However, each book is about a different sister and their fate in the grand fight against evil, with dragons on their side.

‘This phoenix, who was his mate, his queen, was quickly becoming his greatest weakness. And he didn’t give a fuck. Not so long as she was his.’

Skylar is a brilliant heroine. She stands her ground, does not give in easily when it comes to trust, loyalty and love. She’s feisty and heroic, self-sufficient and brave. She loves her sisters with an innate sense to protect them. This is where we find her in first pages of The Blood King where she infiltrates Ladon Ormarrs home in order to rescue her sister, Kasia whom she believes is being held against her will. What we especially loved about Skylar, is that she never rolled over and accepted a fate without questioning it, particularly when it came to mating the ruthless dragon king Ladon Ormarr. A dragon king is born and is stronger with a phoenix by his side as we saw in book one, The Rogue King, which was Brand and Kasia’s story, however, Skylar was absolutely not going to accept this fate without a fight of reason, logic and planning the inevitable.

“So…you believe in me, but you don’t want to let me close.”
“People can only hurt you if you let them close enough to do it.”
“Who has ever been close enough to you to hurt you?”

Ladon is fighting to keep his throne out of the clutches of the High King and his allies. War is coming but just who is an ally and who is a foe? Lies, deception and a witch’s potent magic all adds to the intrigue and the ultimate battle yet to come. We fell in love with Ladon and his no-nonsense ways. He wears his heart on his sleeve and whilst he’s a brutal and ruthless dragon shifter he truly does not shy away for revealing how he feels about Skylar.

‘With Ladon was where she was supposed to be, where she was her strongest, her most powerful, even though it also put her at her most vulnerable.’

We loved the drama, the banter between Skylar and Ladon as well as the well-placed romance which never overpowered the storyline. Whilst we’ve loved the first two books in the Inferno Rising series we have a feeling the third book, The Warrior King, will have a bit more angst, grit and excitement and we personally cannot wait! Just what is it about these shifter romances that have our hearts beating out of our chests? We bloody love them!

The second book in the Inferno Rising series is about Skylar and Ladon. If you’ve read Rogue King you were left with a killer cliffy that introduced Skylar. She gave off a warrior vibe and I was all over her girl power vibes! Throw in the fact that Ladon was a yummy but slightly rigid MC and I was shipping them hard and the wait for book two was torture!

Luckily this picks up immediately after that intense ending and it’s everything that I wanted it to be! We meet new characters (that I’m already anxious to see who they end up with!), more details about the other phoenix sisters! And the plot keeps on thickening with the evil baddie and his minions.

Meet Skylar, the protector of the family, she’s a fighter and she’s 100% devoted to keeping her family safe. So finding out her sister mated a dragon throws her nothing but red flags. It takes a while for Kasia to convince Sky that she willingly mated Brand and that she loves him.

But being told all her life that dragons are dangerous has definitely made Sky distrustful. And when Ladon turns his very determined gaze on her, she’s left scrambling. Not only has she been reunited with one of her sisters but now the dragon world knows there’s more than one phoenix and the stakes just got higher. She doesn’t need the complications that Ladon brings with him. And there’s no way she would willingly mate a dragon, right?

What I loved:
This story was fast paced, entertaining and gave me the perfect balance of romance, heat and humor. This author has seriously become an auto buy for me because the world and characters she’s created grab your attention from start to finish. When you love characters so much and you know you’re going to revisit them again, it’s no brainer that I have to own my paperback copy to add to my collection :) Kasia and Brand were first and now Sky and Ladon have joined the ranks.

Sky and Ladon were definitely distrustful of each other in the beginning but for the greater good, they agree to team up. Of course, Sky doesn’t see it as black and white as that and seeing her fall for her guy – someone one the complete opposite of her own balls to the wall personality – was the best! I would definitely say it was insta-lust but slow burn in the romance department.

I liked Ladon since meeting him in book one, I knew there was more than the strict, cut and dry leader he portrayed and I loved that I was right! Although it starts off as a mating of convenience, I loved that he was the first to admit his deeper feelings for Sky and how he pursued her with all he had. An alpha dragon with an all or nothing attitude melts me every time.

Favorite Line(s):
“You are my heart and my soul, woman. I love you so much.”

Memorable Moments:
Skylar and Ladon’s first meeting. LOL! The sparks that shoot of these two :)

The fight in the air with the white dragons and Kasia and Skylar working together. I loved the action and the adrenaline ride that I got reading that passage.

Loved meeting Airk and Nathair. Both of these characters have piqued my interest. I need more!

Lastly Meira and Samael! I didn’t expect her reaction after being reunited with her sisters. Especially in light of the instant connection she feels towards Samael. I know their story might be more angsty than the other two have been but I’m bracing myself because I’m hooked and need to know how they claim their HEA!

Would I recommend?
100% highly recommend this series. If you love romantic paranormals, dragons, strong family ties and action packed reads, this series is a must read! Can be read as a stand alone but I would suggest reading the books in order to fully understand all the characters and the ongoing plot line.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Blood King was such a fun book to dive into. Just like the previous one, I devoured this in one sitting. There's just something about the characters and Abigail's writing that makes me fall in love with everything so freaking quickly.

In it, you will meet Skylar and Ladon. These two had so much sexual tension that I was nearly drowning in it. Then there's the playful banter that I ate up in every single page and chapter. I honestly ended up liking these two pretty early on. I'll admit that Skylar was pretty much a bad ass in basically everything. So it was pretty easy to just love her through and through.

Now while I knew there was going to be some drama.. I just didn't think it was going to keep me on the edge of my seat. Hands down, I can't wait for the next book in this wonderful series! I need me some more dragon love ASAP!

2.5 lack luster stars.

Another book ive been waiting for for over 6 months for it to just be.... ok. The plot, characters, and romance elements were all there but the whole thing was bogged down with dragged out fight scenes, political talk, and introductions of secondary characters.

Not enough time or interactions of just the hero and heroine. So when they finally say I love you at the last few pages of the book, I was like "but they barely spent any time together!?!?!" Because the author just skips over it!!!!! So many fade to black sex scenes!!! If you're gonna cut out the best part of the romance, I would hop that you would make that time up in other ways. But nooooooo you get a fight/kidnapped scene that lasts way too long and tedious to read.

Tedious is how I would describe this book. The lack of romance and the heroines inability to be serious for 2 seconds. And the fact that it took her to until the 98% mark of the book to get over herself and express her feelings for the hero. Hero was fantastic though, so I gave a couple of stars for just him.

Hoping the next book is better

Who doesn’t love a good dragon tale?!

Picking up where The Rogue King left off, The Blood King was just as jam packed as it’s predecessor! Enemies to lovers, sarcasm and snappy conversations...I loved the gradual build up between Ladon and Skylar as it showcased the growth of their feelings towards one another. It also gave me time to wrap my brain around their relationship and believe they could actually work out!

The side characters also play a strong role. For starters, I’m hoping Samael gets an HEA and Mal the Hellhound deserves all the treats for his part! I think Owen has found a nice balance juggling everyone on the page, because the potential for future characters is vast..hint, hint :)

Ladon and Skylar’s story has everything I love-dragon shifters, edge of your seat battle scenes, smexy chemistry, wacky politics, and two intensely crazy, yet wonderful main leads-what’s not to love?!!

Great second book. It picks up right where the first one left off. Skylar is just as stubborn and amazing as her sister. Ladon doesn't want to take no for an answer, and doesn't. Lots of drama, battling dragons, and hot sex. Now, who will the next sister wind up with?

I've been eagerly awaiting this book since the minute I finished The Rogue King! While I thoroughly enjoyed it, I think Kasia stole the show in a lot of ways in the first book and Skylar was a bit more enigmatic and more standoffish in this one so it made it harder to connect. It also made the connection between Skylar and Landon a bit more fickle. The chemistry was there but there was less longing and more of them scrambling to push back apart from each other. It was kinda the opposite of what I felt in The Rogue King, I was more into Kasia and in The Blood King, Landon was the beacon for me. His role and his drive to protect and do right by his people was admirable and made him more accessible. Undoubtedly they make a good pair though. He clearly needed a strong match and Skylar was definitely that.

This sequel hit every other key perfectly for me. It enriched the already lavish world, the overall plot furthered, the dragon politics raged on, characters we've previously seen were expanded on, and we meet some new ones with sure to be interesting roles in the coming novels. I have to say I'm completely fascinated with Meira and what she has been up to. I'm hoping to see a bit more of the gargoyles she's been hanging around with in the next book! Also, very curious about the Black Clan dragons and how that'll all play out. Each addition to the series only makes me want more and more!
I received an arc of this book from Entangled: Amara via Netgalley and this is my honest review.

I really liked this book. The chemistry between the main characters is soo good. It had some funny bits in it as well. And the story is somewhat the same as the first book but has some nice twist in it.

Overal a nice read and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Skylar thinks she is going to rescue her sister from the dragons and her supposed mate but she finds out very quickly that her sister doesn't need rescuing.

Ladon only wants to mate Skylar so that he has more power to take out the High King. But they have a lot of chemistry that neither of them were expecting.

Ladon is the leader of the Blue Dragons and he needs a strong show of power in order to get some of the other clans to side with him against the High King who is looking for Skylar and her sisters because they are phoenix's. So when Skylar agree's to accept Ladon as her mate so they can take down the High King, she isn't even sure the mating will work but it does obviously and when the other clans see what she is and that Ladon now has a phoenix as a mate, they side with him to take down the High King.

Only problem is the High King seems to have spies everywhere and he knows that Ladon and his friends now have 2 phoenix's as mates, it really makes him crazy. So much so that in order to get more power from his mate who is a powerful witch, they come up with a plan to take power from others and transfer to the High King. Now if they could get one of the Phoenix's to drain, he would get more power. But things don't go as planned and the High King has to resort to drastic measures when things go really wrong with his plans.

I love Skylar, she's sarcastic, quick witted and she really kept Ladon on his toes. I like that even when things get really dangerous for her, she just keeps looking for a solution. This had all the action, romance and great storyline that it really kept me reading on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Disclosure: I received an ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Blood King (Inferno Rising Book 2) by Abigail Owen
I am now so hooked on dragons! I loved the chemistry between the ruthless but hot and sexy Dragon King and the sassy and impudent Phoenix Warrior. It was off the charts steamy! The storyline was engaging, exciting, and action packed, with great world building and charismatic characters that you love and love to hate. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Happy Reading♥️
Content Note: This tantalizing story is adult rated with strong language and steamy sex scenes.

I am a BIG fan of this series!!

Owens writes incredible MCs but her FMCs I am here for. Strong, independent, sarcastic, and not the types to repetitively make idiotic decisions. Love that! The world build from the start was laid out perfectly for this reader. Never too much info and never to little. With any series strong secondary characters really pull the story together and make the reader long for more....again Owens nails it!

You may ask after all this praise how is this not a 5 star for you??!! Well, Ladon was not quite what I expected. He is the Blood King. There was an expectation of him being supremely dominate and MINEish (I think I just created a new word I will use often *pats self on back*). However, he was very understanding and patient. Yes awesome qualities in a man. Yes probably the best fit for Skylar cause that girl is a handful. But for this picky reader I kinda wanted a little more fight from this big fella.

Skylar made my kick arse heroine list and that is HARD to get on. Such a great character! If you have read any of my reviews I loathe a FMC that constantly makes dumb decisions. Skylar makes decisions based on her love for her family, and her skill set. She doesn't set herself up for putting others in danger. Smart, sassy character.

Super excited that Angelika and Meira have joined their sisters! I am a little concerned Angelika won't have her own book which is disappointing to me 😢 I hope I am wrong. Meira's book definitely looks like it will be a page burner. Can not wait!!

Happy reading,
DD💕

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this boo. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for accepting my request!

"Are you so blinded by hatred that you can't hear me or see what's right in front of your face? I love him."

This is the first book I've read in this series and now I'm craving for more. Dragon shifters? Check! Enemies to lovers? Check! Amazing world building? Check, check, check! The pacing was well done and I didn't find myself bored with this book at all!

I'm a sucker for romance, and this book gave me the perfect fix. You've got you alpha "you are mine" main character and a girl who is just trying to save her sister! This is not a insta-love story for those of you who aren't fans of those! Ladon and Skylar have made it to my "favorite couple" book list! There was so much passion and amazing chemistry between the two of them.

Although the romance was the biggest plus for me, the plot was also amazing so interesting! The battle scenes were so detailed and well written,. it almost felt as if I was watching a movie! Beautifully done.

I'm not sure when the next book comes out, sometime next year I'm sure and I 'cant wait. I will dive into the author's other books in the mean time. I recommend everyone pic up a copy of this book when its available!

4/5 🌟's

The Dragon King Ladon Ormarr must keep his people safe from the cruel false High King of the Red Dragons. Skylar Oman is a Phoenix and fated to take a mate/husband who is a dragon king.
Skylar and Ladon butt heads right from the beginning because they are too much alike.
Strong willed, smart, stubborn and fighters, but they understand each other too.
A phoenix mate is needed to make sure he can keep his thrown. But Skylar isn't sure she wants to stay around. She just came to make sure her other sister is safe.
All her life she was told that dragons were a cruel horrible menace.
But that was the story of the false high king of the red dragons, not all dragons.
Meanwhile, war is coming and Skylar is going to have to choose what side she is going to be on.
I enjoy some of these fantasy books and have to applaud the creativity in the authors ability to create a whole world of dragon clans. The blue, gold, red, white, green, black dragon clans. Supernatural beings of other kinds. It is an interesting get away from real life and a world filled with interesting relationships and a touch of the honorable code of medieval knights. Fun and entertaining!

I Heart Romance ARC

Book two in the  Inferno Rising  series knocked it out of the park and did not disappoint! Heck, I even like it better than  The Rogue King , which I gave 4.5 hearts!

In The Blood King, we are introduced to the eldest Amon sister, Skylar, who is hell-bent on rescuing her sister, Kasia, from the clutches of the Dragon King, who is now her mate. Unfortunately for her, she attracts the notice of the Blood King, Ladon. In a series of unfortunate events, Skylar has no choice but to agree to a mate with Ladon.

The Blood King is a very fast-paced book. Most of the action happens during the first half of the book, which kept me on the edge of my seat. I love the slow relationship development between Skylar and Ladon, although the sexytimes happen early on in the book. I love that the mating bond didn't happen until later on, where we were getting more relationship development between the two strong main characters. The sparks between the two are amazing and the banter is really top-notch!

What really blew me away, though was the last third of the book! We get a few creepy scenes involving the big baddie and a few close calls! Also, there are even more secrets revealed here and we also meet the rest of the sisters!

The Blood King also ends in a sort-of cliffhanger, where we are introduced to the couple in the next book AND another twist in the story!

I can't wait to read the next book The Warrior King!
