The newest novel in the ‘Sentinel Wars’ is full of astounding suspense and emotions that keeps readers glued to the pages. The characters are strong, bold and easily draw readers into their lives as they both try to overcome their pasts to fight for the future of everyone, but while their attraction is magnetic and the chemistry is hot, forging a relationship is not so easy when emotions are turbulent and the pasts has such a strong hold on the hero and the heroine.

The Synestryn have added a new element to the war that keeps the stronghold under constant attacks. REVIEW: 4.25 stars--SAVING DAYLIGHT is the eleventh instalment in Shannon K. Butcher’s contemporary, adult SENTINEL WARS paranormal, fantasy romance series. This is Theronai warrior Morgan Valens, and Serena Brinn’s story line. SAVING DAYLIGHT can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and back story I recommend reading the series in order as many of the storylines overlap and continue in each successive instalment. Shannon is an author who builds up future storylines in many of the previous novels.
SOME BACKGROUND: The Sentinels are three races descended from an ancient race of guardians known as the Athanasians, who defend and protect mankind from the demons at the door. The Theronai are the protectors whose Theronai lifemark-The Tree of Life-begins to lose its’ leaves if a Theronai warrior does not find his mate. The lifemark is a visual gage of a soul’s health, and all of the warriors suffering with the pain are running out of time. The Synestryn have killed most of the female Theronai and the warriors are in need of women whose DNA and heritage will match with their own: the Sanguinar are the healers (as well as blood feeders) and the Synestryn are the demons whose humanity has been lost for centuries.
Told from several third person perspectives including Morgan and Serena SAVING DAYLIGHT follows Morgan and Serena as they fight for their lives, as well as the lives of everyone they know. Morgan Valens has been tasked with retrieving one of the few remaining female Theronai but Serena Brinn wants nothing to do with another captivity having lived two hundred years in a prison of her mother’s making. Refusing to go from one jailer to another Serena battles both head and heart as she fights to destroy the demon-like Synestryn, all on her own but Morgan isn’t willing to face the future without her, having realized Serena is one of the few compatible females to save his Theoronai lifemark. As the battle continues to rage on at the Theronai compound, another battle begins to tear down the walls of Serena’s heart when Morgan is left fighting for his life alongside another warrior who is close to losing the last of his leaves. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship and détente between Serena and Morgan, and the potential fall-out as both believe they are not worthy of love or finding their own happily ever after.
Serena found the price of freedom meant battling the demons that were destroying her world. As the Theronai warrior slowly succumbs to losing his soul, others will find themselves facing an enemy that is much more than anyone could have imagined.
The relationship between Serena and Morgan begins acrimoniously when Serena refuses to return to the Theronai compound. As one of the few known remaining Theronai females in existence Serena has no desire to become someone’s mate, let alone become subservient to a man who only wants control. Knowing Serena is reluctant to tie herself down to eternity, Morgan is willing to sacrifice himself in order to give Serena her freedom, no matter the cost. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Meanwhile, the Theronai compound is still under attack, and their defenses are slowly falling to the maurading hoards. Somehow, a new breed of Synestryn have developed the ability to move about in daylight, time when the Theronai could have taken the advantage. Lives will be threatened, babies will be born, unmated females will soon discover there are others looking to guard and protect.
SAVING DAYLIGHT is a story of survival and war; of fated mates, power and working together. The premise is startling, wonderful and gripping; the characters are feisty, dynamic and spirited; the romance is tender, encouraging and sensual. Shannon K Butcher invites the reader into a dramatic and intense instalment in the Sentinel Wars paranormal, fantasy series.
Saving Daylight by Shannon K. Butcher is the 11th book in her wonderful The Sentinel Wars series. I am a big fan of this series and Butcher’s writing, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. Brief refresher: The Sentinel Wars series revolves around immortal warriors that protect the humans from the evil demons, Synestryn. The Sanquinars are healers, who need blood to survive, and they are dwindling; and the Theronai, who are elite protectors, who need to find their life mates to survive. The Synestryns are determined to kill all the Theronai woman and children, in order to destroy the Theronai warriors; as they continue to lose the leaves that will eventually kill them without a mate.
We meet our hero, Morgan Valens, a Theronai warrior, who has been assigned to find one of the women whom they need to help them in their battle against the Synestryn demons. Things are looking bleak for everyone living at the stronghold, Dabyr, as the enemy is starting to win the war. Morgan finally manages to find the woman he needs to bring back to Dabyr.
Serena Brinn, our heroine and a powerful woman in her own right, is determined to destroy all the demons on her own, and does not want help from Morgan or any Theronai. Serena was locked up in isolation by her mother for two hundred years, and now she will do anything to never again allow herself to not be free. Morgan does his best to convince her she is needed to work together with the other Theronai in order to defeat the enemy, but he gets nowhere. The demons have found a way to create daylight demons by the thousands, and no matter how fast those in Dabyr or Morgan and Serena together kill them, more continue to arise: the desperation escalates; Serena has been told to find the source of the creation of those daylight demons before they all die.
What follows is an exciting, action packed adventure, where Morgan and Serena find themselves in disastrous situations often, which each needing help from the Sanquinar healers to bring them back to health. Despite neither of them wanting to act on their growing attraction to each other, the chemistry between them is hot. Serena wants her freedom, fearing Morgan will take that away from her; Morgan lost his wife years ago, and feels he is betraying her memory. Will they both find a way to bond together, making both of them even more powerful?
Whereas, in previous books, the story mostly revolves around the lead couple, in Saving Daylight, we did get a number of other POV’s of the pregnant woman in Dabyr who are using their power to help fight off the enemy. At times, I felt it was a bit confusing, but since this was a major battle of survival, it was needed to keep the flow going. As we raced to the finish, this was a wild crazy battle with so many of our old and new favorites in a fight to death; keeping us on the edge of our seats
Saving Daylight was a wonderful addition to TheSentinel Wars, and Shannon Butcher once again gives us a great exciting story, a great couple, and wonderful secondary and recurring characters. If you enjoy paranormal fantasy, with lots of action and romance, then you should start reading this series.
After 200 years when Serena Brinn goes home nothing is left of the life she knew including her betrothed who is now bound to another woman. So she leaves the safety of home and sets off alone but customs have changed and technology has changed way past anything she can understand. The war has changed and their enemy the Synestryn are winning and so she is needed in battle, but is she prepared to lose her freedom to help? After many have failed, Morgan Valens is tasked with bringing her home no matter what it takes. What he doesn't expect is an intense desire for her. After a prediction and Serena and Morgan find a way to overcome the past and work together as failure means losing each other as well as their people losing daylight forever.
This was a great story that was full of drama, twists and turns as each of them fought their own demons as well as those they needed to fight together. At the centre of all of that they found and understanding trust in each other that went deeply to their core. Well told everything was very clear and easy to understand and empathise with. Very enjoyable and a great continuation of the series.
Having been in captivity before Serena refuses to return to it any way. She has no interests in being behind the walls of the compound or being mated and under anothera rule. So instead she goes out and fights the Synestryn alone with a sword just like a warrior. When Morgan is sent to bring her back he finds that she will not go back to the Theroni compound. Both wounded by their pasts they need to heal so that they can battle thier enemies stronger together. The books in this series are always so good I have teouble putting them down and this book holds up that tradition. Part of a series this book can be read as a stand-alone but is better if read as the series because eash book is only a portion of a larger story. I read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the characters and the story. This series is one of my favorite series to follow. I've loved every couple and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them all. Logan is my favorite male character so far.
3.5/5 This was a decent book. There are things I liked and things I did not like in the book as with most. This is the eleventh story in the series with two being short stories. We had been introduced to both the male and female protagonists in previous books. I liked the premise behind the issues both had to work through. Honestly, I can't say exactly what didn't fit for me but I felt something was missing from their story. Also, I feel like there are so many potential stories that have been begun but we don't seem to be getting much farther with them.
It’s Morgan’s unlucky turn to try to bring Serena home. Finding her saves her life, then an old problem from her past unexpectantly arrives. Tears, then frustration, then happiness.
I love seeing how both the Dabyr defenders and the different groups of refugees are coping. Justice and her mom were really a godsend. And the way the women are instrumental in stopping the constant attacks on Dabyr is cool. Too bad the bad guy continues.
Fave scenes: Serina showing her new modern version to her unexpected visitor, meeting with Briant, Jackie using her talent to find the other women, the condition of Serena’s car and Jackie finding all the other women.
I liked how the story progressed. I will say that I enjoy the connection between the Sanguinars and their partners vs The Theronais. Yeah... I know. I might be in the minority but I just believe their connection and love more than the Theronais. This one in particular felt like time is running out and it has to happen now because if not then when because there are only 50 pages left in the book.
I'm uber sad that there isn't a follow up to this book already published and I couldn't find any information to let me think the next installment will be out any time soon.
I found I didn't care for the couple in this one. Both were too worried about protecting themselves that it made it hard to believe them as a couple or even friends with benefits as they tried. By the end when both realized they were past being scared I just didn't care. I found myself more interested in the others, Andra and her helping get Dabyr back up with Lexi, Jackie and her finding the others in a crazy situation.
Sad that this is the last installment in the series. There are so many loose ends!
Things I liked: •MMC and FMC have loved and lost previously •FMC is good with blades and magic.
Things I didn’t like: •The plot with Link was odd. We haven’t had any other non American Theronai showing up. I don’t see why he’s the first. •It that much battle, the threat of loss of life didn’t feel believable.
Absolutely fantastic! Finding out what happened to Serena - & pairing her with Morgan was PERFECT!! Lots of action- a love growing in spite of themselves!! I think the future of the Theronai is looking a bit more assured- And I so can’t wait for the next book! I have in my mind who story needs to be told! There are so many characters in this series that I need to know what happens with them!
Once again the thrill and excitement of following the Sentinels in the their battles against the vile Synestryn takes the reader on a wild ride filled with steamy romance, edge of your seat action and wonderful interaction between protagonists!
Lexi and Zach, previously my favorite couple, now are neck and neck with Serena and Morgan who struggle to find common ground as their story unfolds in Saving Daylight.
Serena and Morgan, wounded by past losses, dedicated to protecting the future, carry the burden of finding and stopping the latest threat to Dabyr; however, we also get wonderful snapshots of the other characters we know and have come to love as they too do their best to stem the tide of evil and secure he next generation of Sentinels.
Too much too little too late. I really went into this excited to love it. It was a pivotal point in the story. So many things in motion and she tapped in to all of them...except the romance part. She had great material to work with, set the foundations, and then just let it all fall flat. When did they fall in love, even?!! Where was the love story? And panning out every time to go onto another storyline really hurt the book for me, I ended up scanning through the bits that were of little interest. spending pages and time describing caves or other places while all hell has broken loose is bad form and just annoyed me. By the end I was actually angry. Sorry, but the HEA was off for me. **Major, MAJOR error, there is absolutely NO way to delay labor, I think that whole scene was wrongly written. It was totally cringe worthy taking more points off this book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Serena is a kick ass warrior taking on the Synestryn threat all on her own. She won't return to Dabyr, she won't risk being "jailed" again, her mom had already done that to her. But Joseph is sending unbonded males to find her and return her to their sanctuary. A sanctuary whose walls have fallen, whose warriors are exhausted as are their resources. But Serena will not risk being tied down or bonded, she won't risk anything that threatens her freedom. But now there are two males who have tracked her down and a call from Dabyr tells her the harsh truth, only she can find the demons that walk under the sun, only she can stop the attacks on Dabyr. She must choose and choose soon, time is running out! Suspenseful and frightening, this just sets up the amazing story of the Sentinels as their world and ours faces it's most frightening threat!
Serena emerged from 200 years in a stasis bubble not wanting to be caged again. But Joseph, leader of the Theronai, needs her on his team. He sends Sentinels after her to bring her to Dabyr. They always return wounded. Until Morgan. Morgan negotiates and gives her what she wants--freedom--in exchange for bonding with him. She drains the massive power that he is holding and that is painful to him, and he doesn't tell her what to do. And the one thing they both refuse is to love each other. Unfortunately, that holds back the transfer of power between them. After a vision from the seer Sybil, Serena has a task that might cost them their lives if they can't learn to work together better.
I have been eagerly waiting for this read, and was not disappointed. Having been introduced in previous books, I was looking forward to these characters own love story. I was not disappointed.
If you have not read the others, I would highly recommend doing so. Though each story is a romance in itself, the background story of the people, and their history is part of the whole Sentinel Wars and one can become lost or confused by some of the small intricate details. Even between books, it can be somewhat confusing for one who has read the books to get refreshed. But, I can say that you will not be sorry for having read the others as they are wonderful reads. Check out the short stories as well.
Serena Brinn has fought many of The Theronai trying to bring her back to Dabyr. Morgan Valens is sent to bring her back but doesn't want to be injured in the process. The enemy is gaining ground like never before and needs to be stopped right this moment. Can Serena stop the enemy? Will she allow herself to be bonded? What are the enemies plans? Find out in Saving Daylight.
Wow.... you know, this book was so stressful and full of a action. I hate that I always have to wait years to read the next book. But this book did not disappoint. Morgan was a awesome character. In the beginning Serena was irritating but I admired her embracement to task. I now want to see the story of the little boy
This was the first series I loved and continue to wait with great anticipation for more books. The characters jump off the page and the books are so well written and enjoyable. Can't wait for the next one.
Some real progress was made in the battle against the dark. I hope we get a sequel with more things looking up again, and eventually sequel with a complete victory to wrap up the series.
I don’t understand why authors need to write this storyline. I don’t like it no matter who writes it. Gets two stars because I finished it. Skimmed whole second half, but finished it.
