Girl Who Disappeared

At the onset of her getaway to the hills of Himachal Pradesh in a secluded tourist spot, Writer's Hill, Nisha knew something terrible was going to happen. Less than seventy-two hours later, she goes missing under mysterious circumstances. When the police arrive and question the co-inhabitants, they're surprised at their statements. All of them describe an eerie, almost supernatural, occurrence on the night of Nisha's disappearance.
To add to the strangeness is a unique coterie of travellers-Nisha's ignorant boyfriend, a reclusive but nosy writer and a young couple who are not what they seem. There is also the caretaker's visually impaired daughter who claims she can 'see things' .
With barely any leads, the police know they have to work doubly hard if they want to find Nisha, but with each passing day, the mystery around her disappearance gets murkier.
Where is Nisha?

Book : The Girl who disappeared
Writer : Vikrant Khanna
Publisher : Penguin Random House
Pages : 228
Shop : Flipkart

The sole reason for buying the book is the title of this book.
The story about a pair Rishi and Nisha, and other girl named Avni ( who is mad on Rishi ) .
And one day Nisha went missing.
Where she went ? What happened to her is in the remaining pages .....
More than the main protagonist.. I liked Anand character...
I can't say this is a thriller book... but a beginner friendly one...

| Book Review | The Girl Who Disappeared.
•
When I think of my favourite thriller/crime novels, my mind always goes back to Higashino or Stieg Larsson. Unfortunately, I haven't read any significant books by Indian authors in this genre. Vikrant Khanna, having penned down a thriller previously has come out with a new novel this year. The Girl Who Disappeared is a fast paced read which I managed to complete in a single day. Albeit I was curious to see how the story would pan out, I was eventually disappointed by how the author left a lot of loose ends hanging.
•
Nisha and Rishi have been dating for a couple of months when Nisha is left shaken by an unpleasant experience. Rishi's neighbour Avni is fixated on him and is displeased when he introduces Nisha to her. Avni immediately threatens to kill Nisha if she doesn't leave Rishi alone. After being both physically and mentally harrassed, Nisha cowers in fear while Rishi decides to distract her mind. The two of them then visit a quaint yet dis resort in Himachal Pradesh to spend quality time together. Writer's Hill is looked after by a family of three while the owner lives elsewhere. The caretakers having prepared their blind daughter Meena to help them in their chores, live a simple life. Apart from Nisha and Rishi, there's a writer (Anand) who has been couped up in one of the rooms and another couple (Monisha and Roy) who keep to themselves.
•
Couple of days after their arrival, Nisha vanishes into thin air and soon the police gets involved. Meena, on the other hand is shocked by the images that she sees in her mind in spite of being blind. She senses danger and has visions of strange people who are on their way to hurt them. Investigation is carried out for several days during which truths are uncovered about the other guests. Rest of the story proceeds in unraveling the mystery about Nisha's disappearance. Initially, I was fascinated about Meena's character but as I read along, she seemed to be like Bran from Game of Thrones. The angle of supernatural activites was too weak to hold the story upright and this was why I did not enjoy this book.
•
I was hoping for an explanation about the creatures that plagued Meena's visions, the reason behind Avni's madness or even the way in which the author decided to end the book. There was a lot of unfinished business which seemed like someone had hurried to sweep it all under the carpet. The characters lacked clarity and as the mystery was uncovered, it felt forced and did not convince me even a bit. This book falls under the category of having potential but not being fully utilised which is truly very disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone considering how I was left with a sense of dismay but if you have read it, do let me know how your thoughts in the comment section.

The story started on a very subtle simple tone with Nisha having some trouble with her boyfriends ex girlfriend and so decide to take a vacation to the hills of Himachal.
.
They way author has introduced other character is very impressive. There are about 10 other main characters and the character development was so good that you can connect the the thoughts of them without any confusion on who is who. There's an uninspired writer looking for a good mystry story, a thief couple planning their next theft, the caretaker, his wife and his visually impaired daughter claims to see things that aren't real from others eyes like a prophecy and claims to have seen supernatural creatures coming towards the resort.
.
The story took an interesting turn when Nisha disappears without any trace and everyone reports hearing paranormal noises coming from the woods as if someone is in pain- something supernatural. The question was where was Nisha? what were the noises?
.
The best thing about this book was- cute little small chapters which did not burden the reader with too much of information, leaking just the right amount of facts. Other thing that I liked the most was how the author had different sections for the -plot building -the investigation and the conclusion- properly organised.
.
Yes, the ending wasn't expected but it was something that had seen coming. i was a little disappointed though but the story was great.

@vikrantkhanna has his unique style of writing, dealing with different characters and surrealistic objects in a very interesting way.
The story, in the beginning, is very interesting, really a page-turner. The main characters Nisha and Rishi, a couple, are heading to the Writer’s hill, a tourist place in Himachal Pradesh for some peace and safety because of some events that occurred in the past few days, and Nisha knew something terrible was going to happen. In the Writer’s Hill, they got to meet Monica & Roy (another couple), Meena (a blind girl) and her parents Babu & Moni (The Caretakers), and Anand (a writer). One night in an unusual way and under a supernatural element, Nisha disappears. All of the characters have their secrets and stories, which unfold as the story progresses.
The writing style is simple and easy-going, the swiftness of the story, in the beginning, is great, full-on attractive, the supernatural elements make the story more interesting to read but as the story advances the supernatural part which seemed to be exciting.
One of the characters Avni is shown to be violent and weird but why was she like that has not been cleared.
In my view, the first half of the book is very well done and super engaging.
Read it: If you want some light mystery read.

So I am suggesting reading this book

Obsessed one-sided lover, Bollywood perfect love birds, creepy aspiring author, supernatural events, picture-perfect hill station, mysterious disappearance, this little more than 200 paged novella had all of them and some more. All of these got the high potential to give a psychological thriller had the book being double of its size. The writing is so fast-paced that you blink and puff gone an important event. The writer promised to give a twisty unpredictable end and which was there for sure and took me aback! Its one of those perfect weekend read, or kind of book I would opt for to get out of a reading slump.

The story begins with a very promising mysterious plot where a couple (Rishi and Nisha) goes to a beautiful place (writer's hill, Himachal pradesh) and within 72 hours the girl goes missing under Mysterious circumstances. During investigation all of them speak of some supernatural occurrence on the night of Nisha's disappearance.
The plot is intriguing and interesting. Hope you'll like it.

Enjoyed the setting and characters in this book, each one has a different quirk painting them all grey. The ending was a bit of a let down, expected something far more sinister. Nonetheless it is a good and easy read.

Review

The title of book is mysterious in itself as the story is also flows with the lots of Mysterious activities, which made me read more and more of the story.

The girl who disappeared is indeed a engrossing story which kept me hooked till the last but ending of the story disappointed me as I wanted more intriguing.

Ending could have been better I believe but I don't have any idea about it.

The language of the book is lucid and narration is also very nice and I liked it over-all but have mixed feelings.

A pacy thriller.

That would be the headline of the review.

Thrillers and mysteries are not an easy genre to write. Primarily because readers have read literally hundreds of plots and are waiting to pre-empt the plot.

Therefore, the author has to take the reader along on the journey, but also find a way to stay one step ahead of the reader.

The book has easy, credible characters. The story progresses at an easy, bordering on languid, pace. But the advantage of a book is that one can speed read the slow sections if one wants to.

The characters and the plot develop simultaneously, with details getting added in each chapter.

While the overall plot is credible, but just so, the rest of the story also has some plot holes that leave the reader, if not frustrated, definitely wondering. Maybe, a writer cannot cover all bases of probability, or the book would become too big to be readable.

If you have a flight or a short train/bus ride, or are looking for a pacy read to spend a lazy winter afternoon, this book would be a good fit.

This is one of the most engaging books I have read. Each chapter keeps you hooked and makes you want to continue reading. The plot is well-written and blends both romance and mystery perfectly.
I especially liked the character of Anand, who felt more relatable compared to the main protagonist. Avni’s character also has strong potential and adds depth to the story.
Overall, this book is a great choice for readers who enjoy emotional stories with a touch of suspense.

I would definitely recommend it, especially if you like Indian authors. Vikrant Khanna has done a great job

This is such a good mystery book i thought i knew what happened to Nisha but when i read the conclusion it blew me away, I'm pretty sure it was one of the best ending a mystery can have.
But i also want to read what happened after the book end how it did but on the other hand I don't want to know what will happen cause i think it's the perfect ending.
Would surely recommend if you are up for a rollercoaster of thoughts.

This book started off really well and had me completely hooked. The first half built the mystery nicely, and the second half kept me guessing with enough suspense to make me want to keep turning the pages. The setting, the eerie atmosphere, and the multiple suspects made it an enjoyable thriller.

Unfortunately, the ending was a huge letdown.

After all the suspense and buildup, the climax felt rushed and disappointing

Fast paced book and helped me get back into my book-reading habit. The plot had a very good build-up, however the ending left me disappointed. There was insane potential, to end the story in a more thrilling manner.

Safe to say, I won't be re-reading it. But can't deny the fact that it's a nice book for a quick read.

A book about mystery, jealousy, love and extent to which people can go for their love and loved ones. A book with twists and an unexpected ending. A book revolving around how Nisha got disappeared from a small cottage.

Where is Nisha?

The author of the bestselling book ‘The Girl Who Knew Too Much’, Vikrant Khanna, on this valentine’s day came up with his new release ‘The Girl Who Disappeared’. The story in the beginning is very interesting, really a page turner. The main characters Nisha and Rishi, a couple, are heading to the Writer’s hill, a tourist place in Himachal Pradesh for some peace and safety because of some events that occurred in the past few days and Nisha knew something terrible was going to happen. In the Writer’s Hill they got to meet Monica & Roy (another couple), Meena (a blind girl) and her parents Babu & Moni (The Caretakers) and Anand (a writer). One night in an unusual way and under a supernatural circumstance Nisha disappears. All of the characters have their own secrets and stories, which unfolds as the story progresses.

The writing style is simple and easy going, the pace of the story in the beginning is great, full on intriguing, the supernatural elements makes the story more interesting to read but as the story progresses the supernatural part which seemed to be exciting in the beginning, later on becomes just a drag. I thought the little girl Meena, who claims she can see things, will get to play a major role but it goes in vain, if she would have done something by seeing things it could have given the story a new dimension. Towards the end it seemed as the writer is in some hurry because many parts remain hanging in the middle without any proper closure. Also, one of the characters Avni, is shown to be violent and weird but why was she like that has never been cleared. So many questions but no answers.
In my view the first half of the book is very well done and super engaging but the plot in the second half looses connect with the reader, could have been better than this.
Read it : If you want some light mystery read, but I warn you not to expect much.

Miss it: If you are expecting much, with an amazing plot twist

This book started with a really promising adventure. Two new love birds on a getaway to a cozy secluded tourist spot called Writer’s Hill in Himachal Pradesh. Less than 72 hours later, the girl, Nisha goes missing. When the police arrive and question the quests, all of them speak of an eerie, almost supernatural occurrence on the night of Nisha’s disappearance. And on top of all of that, the caretaker’s visually impaired daughter claims that she can ‘see’ things.

Mystery, crime, AND a love story? This book had the potential to become the next Gone Girl. But what it made up for in excitement, it lacked in the actual act of story-telling. The book is a little over 200 pages long, and for the first hundreds pages Nisha still hadn’t disappeared; which just put so much pressure on the second half of the book to roll out the entire investigation. On top of it all, some of the occurrences in the story didn’t even make sense. For eg, when Nisha’s father travels all the way to the resort after her disappearance, he isn’t even seen talking/questioning her boyfriend. He talks to the police and is never mentioned of again. There was a couple who entered Nisha’s room the night she disappeared and the police didn’t even ask them if she was present in the room at that time. There was also a obsessed lover of the boyfriend that had assaulted Nisha once in the past but still nobody told the police about her. Even the supernatural angle was a little bait-y because it wasn’t explored as much as it should have been.

The pace of the book was quick, the writing was good and as the author promised, the ending was a nice twist. But for a mystery/crime novel, it was really short read, with paper-thin characters, and plenty of loose endings.

So, Weekend is here and I am back with one more book and this time little different.
If I had to describe this book in one word it would be "Suspense ".
The story revolves around in search of the main character of the story 'Nisha' who know something terrible is going to happen and she goes missing. The story plot is set in 'Writer's Hill' situated in Himanchal Pradesh. The story also has other interesting and important characters.
It wasn't fast read for me but if you like suspense thriller you are definitely gong to like it. The best things was you can't predict the major twists in the whole story.
And the ending...... I don't want to spoil anything for you. Do let me know your reviews on this book.
Happy Reading !

This is the love story of Nisha and Rishi. The story starts on an intriguing note and the character building is smooth. All the characters are introduced in due course and each have a substantial role.

The story of the book revolves around mysterious disappearance of Nisha Dastur from a resort on writer's hill where she had come for staycation.

Since it is a suspense novel, can't share more about the plot. Read on to unveil the mystery behind Nisha's disappearance and the involvement of other characters.

This book is full of mystery. You won't get to the result. The result would be way more diffrent what you'd have thought.

At the onset of her getaway to the hills of Himachal Pradesh in a secluded tourist spot, Writer's Hill, Nisha knew something terrible was going to happen. Less than seventy-two hours later, she goes missing under mysterious circumstances.
Persons are telling about some event organized by some supernatural thing and sound that's never been heard before.
Try guessing what would have happened and find yourself wrong. With very short chapters, it was a fast read.

Wow! Not gonna lie I already predicted the ending, but I didn't know there would be another ending, or should I say plot twist? Yes, plot twist. There was still no explanation for the magical things that were happening, so I'm just going to assume that there were indeed some supernatural powers involved. Anyway, overall, I think it was a really good book. All that mystery build-up was worth it. I had binge read whole story in a single sitting because I couldn't stop once I started reading it. It kept me hooked from start to end. Will recommend it to my friends too!
