Tell That To My Heart

Rate this book
Jemima Dewberry wears her heart on her sleeve. Her weakness for bad boys, coupled with her track record for making bad decisions has led to endless heartbreak. The only trouble is, she can’t seem to kick the habit.

On top of that, her “dream” job at Yorkshire Portions magazine hasn’t turned out to be what she’d hoped, and she seems to have developed the knack of annoying her boss without even trying. It doesn’t help that the new girl seems to have taken an instant dislike to her. All that’s keeping her there are her best friends Anna-Lisa and Aidey, who have picked up the pieces of her shattered heart more times than they care to remember.

When Jemima’s latest boyfriend turns out to be no better than the rest, the hurt and humiliation is almost unbearable. She declares she’s finally through with love, and swears off men for life. But when charismatic Caspar De Verre walks into the office with his dangerous good looks and mesmerising smile, she’s utterly captivated, and her promises to Anna-Lisa and Aidey not to let her heart rule her head are soon forgotten.

But is Caspar all he seems? Anna-Lisa and Aidey have their doubts. And Herbert, the happy-go-lucky black Labrador Jemima’s looking after, doesn’t seem to like him either.

As Jemima falls for Caspar’s charms she finds herself being forced to confront the struggle between her head and her heart. But which one will prove the most powerful?

And will Jemima get the happy-ever-after she so desperately craves?

Favorite Quotes:

Mim gazed after him, her libido raging into life; the effect Caspar De Verre was having on her, anyone would think he bathed in concentrated pheromones.

Well, it actually had everything to do with her dubious choice of boyfriends. Just when she thought she’d found “the one”, and she was in a relationship that might actually be going somewhere, she’d discover that the said boyfriend had other ideas and, more often than not, other girlfriends.

… kind of like Dracula in that handsome, irresistible sort of way; you know he’s bad but the temptation’s too great to resist, kind of thing.

Mim resisted the temptation to make eye contact with her; she had a suspicion Honey’s black looks had the power to turn people to stone.

My Review:

This was a slowly developing and somewhat circular story featuring the self-effacing and timorous Mim and her best friends/co-workers. The three enjoyed their work but were struggling with a hostile work environment that was becoming increasingly toxic on an exponential level. When it came to her sexy new co-worker, Mim’s dog knew at first whiff, but Mim chose to wear blinders when it came to men and as was her pattern as well as that of her mother before her, she made yet another disastrous choice. I wanted to give her a few pinches and/or whacks to the back of her head to knock some sense loose, but Mim had horrible taste in men and purposely ignored and denied her own niggles as well as the concerns of her friends. I enjoyed the characters, the friends’ relationships, the humor, the lovable Labrador Herbert, and the office intrigue, but I smirked with glee at the shenanigans they played on the local busybody and curtain-twitching gossip to catch her out on her rumor spreading.

4☆ A Heart Warming and Uplifting Romance. With plenty of Drama and Giggles.

Jemima aka Mim has just found out her rival Honey has just started working at the Yorkshire Portions Magazine where Mim works.
Not only is she her rival but the God daughter to her bullying Manager.
Honey is Manipulative, Competitive and out to make Mim's life Hell!

Then there is Caspar who is also a new employee and he has taken an instant shine to Mim.
However let's just say...dogs are a fantastic judge of character, if a dog don't like you then something ain't right!
It's just a shame Mim didn't listen to Herbert the Labrador as he was spot on!

Thankfully Mim has some pretty amazing friends, Aidey and Anna-Lisa who are always there to pick up the pieces, support her and have her back no matter what!

Mim has a tendency to gravitate towards the wrong men.
But there is someone a little closer to her that is perfect in every way, if only she realises it, before it's too late!

Tell That To My Heart  is a heart warming, uplifting story of Friendship, Relationships, Romance, Mystery and Discovery.
There is Drama, Giggles, Lies, Deceit, and an adorable fur baby.
A fantastic start to a new series.
If you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading Eliza J Scott's books then you are missing out!

Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Tell That To My Heart is a very nice read.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these new characters I hope to see them again in the next book of the series.

Mim, our heroine, is not perfect, she is stressed, her work place has become a nightmare. Since the arrive of her new collegue who acts like a moody teen, and with her unpleasant employers who are waiting for her to make a mistakes to fire her. Her love life is also not pleasant and exciting, it seems like she only starts a relationship with bad men who will mistreat her.
Fortunately she has some great friends who never leave her alone, they always have her best interest at heart when they give her some advices.

I really liked Mim, she is so believable with her lack of self confidence and her ridiculous insecurities but to me she is beautiful nontheless with her shapely figure and psoriasis.

This is a lovely contemporary romance set mainly in the York area. Jemima Dewberry works at Yorkshire Portions magazine but it isn't quite the dream job she'd hoped for. Her boss is a bully who seems out to find fault with all she does. The only thing that redeems her job is her two best friends, Anna-Lisa and Aidey, both work there with her and they share the same office. Unfortunately a new starter, the god daughter of her boss, appears to hate Jemima and is out to get her. However, the other new starter is Caspar De Verre and, despite their coffee spilling first encounter, he's keen to help Jemima, giving her lifts to and from work . . . . but why does her sister's friendly black Labrador keep growling and snarling at him? Are Anna-Lisa and Aidey right not to trust him?

Packed with surprising twists, this is a delightful story set in a region I know quite well. It was lovely to read about areas I recognised and easy to imagine the events portrayed in the story occurring there. This is a story about friendships, trusting your instincts, knowing that when something appears too good to be true it probably is. It is also a story of finding love when and where you least expect it and has a brilliant, moving, ending that I really enjoyed. This is another fabulous read by this highly talented author and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and thoroughly enjoying doing so.

This is the first book in this author’s new series, Heartshaped. I loved the books in her previous series, Life on the Moors, so was excited to start on this one. The series introduces us to Jemima Dewberry, Mim for short! House sitting for her sister, clinging onto her job working for a magazine and being unlucky in love means that Mim’s life really does need a shove in the right direction. When new boss, Caspar De Verre starts in the office, perhaps this is just what Mim needs! He’s handsome, charismatic, wealthy and makes it perfectly clear that he is very much interested in her! Despite warning and protestations from her friends, Anna-Lisa and Aidey, Mim lets her heart rules her head, but is Caspar everything he seems to be?

I really enjoyed this book and loved Mim’s character! She is such an easy character to relate to and I could see so much of my younger self in her! Mim is obviously having a tough time, clashing with her boss, getting over a break up and then having to work with the woman who was responsible for said break-up! Who could blame Mim for wanting to grab a bit of fun and excitement and the chance of a relationship with the debonair Caspar! You just knew from the beginning though that there was something amiss with him and as the book moves on you begin to find out what!

Mim’s support network around her was absolutely fantastic, with so many close friends she could trust. I did like Anna-Lisa (although wasn’t so keen on her coffee cup alter-ego!!). She seemed the perfect friends to steer Mim along the right path and help her make good choices! When things started to go missing in the office, I have to admit that I did start to point the accusing finger at some of these close friends and we are left wondering as to who the culprit was until well into the book!

The characters all played a wonderful part in this story and coupled with the scenic Yorkshire Moors backdrop and the easy to read storyline, I found myself captivated by it all! With lots of laughter, plenty of romance and a good big dose of reality, this book will keep you enthralled from the very beginning. Teaching lessons of knowing who to trust, following your head and not your heart, and that sometimes love is right there in front of you, this book has left me impatiently waiting for the next book in the series!

This isn't the first book by Eliza J. Scott that I have read, and when I saw the blog tour I had to check out the blurb since I was very curious to know more. The title called my attention at first, then the fact that I knew the author was a win-win for my curiosity.

In this story we follow Jemima, and it maintains the same thought provoking and emotional element as in previous books I have read of this author. The main character was relatable and I found myself going through the motions of her life as I kept reading.

It is the start of a brand new series, and Eliza J. Scott as this brilliant way of telling the story and making us feel as if we are part of world. She tells us about the characters that surround the main character, that are as important as Jemima, because they a novel can't only focus on the MC, because other characters can mess things up, or they can be the solutions to the problems. I loved getting to know Jemima as much as I loved meeting the different people that crossed paths with her in every page, every chapter.

I read it during the afternoon, two days of wonderful delight, and that's all that matters for me. I enjoyed learning about the community and what moved Jemima. Uncover information, understanding the reasons behind the actions of certain characters, and falling in love with the story in the end.

Overall, it was a genuinely interesting novel, with a heart-warming and fun plot that made my afternoons at home so much enjoyable. If you enjoyed Eliza J. Scott's pervious series, then I absolutely recommend you try this one.

[I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Eliza J. Scott for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.]

The story of Mim and her friends Anna-Lisa and Aidey...they went to school together and also work together at a magazine. Mim is staying in her sister’s and brother in laws house with their Labrador Hebert! The characters are so real, and Hebert is so adorable and everyone just loves him and he gets attention from everyone, and spoiled as well! Recently Mim’s ex boyfriend’s gf who he cheated on Mim with, has joined the magazine and has a desk right beside Mim. Her name is Honey and has caused so much trouble in the office. Things go missing and Honey has been trying to get Mim in trouble with her aunt and uncle that own the company. Mim has bad experiences with the wrong kind of men for her, she makes such bad choices..She starts to date Kaspar at the company and he just uses her for sex tries to get her involved in his family’s money laundering business, but by this time she has figured out what’s going on so she makes a clean break and breaks up with him..After Honey set up Mim in the office to take the blame for all the missing things that she has put in her drawer, Mim leaves and starts walking in a rainstorm for hours, Aidey finds her and takes her home to his mothers where they look after her and let her relax and eat. She spends the night.mAnna-Lisa brings her to a hairdresser the next day and the 3 quit their jobs and start their own company. Before they do Aidey, Mim and Hebert go on a holiday to his parents cottage around Scotland where Mim and Aidey fall in love! This is such a nice story and I have loved all Eliza’s books and look forward to whatever comes next!

Mim (aka Jemima) is SUCH a dear! Honestly, she wore her heart on her sleeve (something she learns to cover just a smidge by book's end), and cares with her whole self. Even when things aren't going just they way they should, she makes the best. After all, when life gives you lemons, you're suppose to make lemonade...right? Yeah, about that...

I felt SO BAD for her because she was stepped all over by the former boyfriend (Rick, grr), had to work with the likes of Honey Blossom (who is SO not anything like her name), be lorded over by her boss Catherine (not even going there), and suffer the advances of Caspar, the new office hunk...who, okay, definitely didn't make it seem like a hardship since we all like a little attention now and then, but there was just something a bit off about him. I mean, if the dog doesn't like him...they're a pretty good judge of character...I'd be questioning things! (That's right, Herbert! What a good doggo!) Good thing she has friends that have her back, come rain OR shine...which there is definitely both along this bumpy bit of Mim's life, but in the end, it all comes out right, and really, isn't that happy-ever-after what we're all striving for in our own ways?

Parents have a big influence on children’s lives. When you are already a bit older, you see better what’s right and what’s wrong, but young children don’t see it that way and pick up everything whether it’s good or bad.

Often people are following their hearts even when their heads scream ‘nooooooo’ and their gut agrees with their head, but how can something that feels so good be bad at the same time?

You can totally be swept off your feet and be on cloud nine, but it’s also very important that you keep your cool too, because otherwise you can find yourself in very murky water.

Sometimes you find what you were looking for right in front of you,but it can take years before you realize it.

I really enjoyed this story. The author has created great characters and treated us to a lovely book. 4 stars.

Thank you, Eliza J. Scott and Rachel’s Random Resources.

Poor Jemima (Mim).  A string of bad relationships and a dream job that's no so dreamy?

I felt so protective over Mim within minutes of beginning the novel. Shes such a  delightful and big hearted character but struggled with her bully boss and colleague and seems to just not learn from her mistakes.  Even her close friends have no luck trying to make her see clearly.  I adored how protective and supportive her friends were and I'm really hoping that these characters recur in the rest of the series.

Despite being sworn off men Mim finds herself very attracted to the new guy at work despite having some alarm bells ringing in the background.  The question is; has Mim finally found Mr right or is she heading for heartbreak once more?

Tell That To My Heart is such a lovely heartwarming novel with adorable characters and a cute village setting.  It's a perfect novel to sit out in your garden and read your cares away with.

Thank you very much to @rachelsrandomresources for inviting me in the blog tour for this book and @elizajscott for the #gifted copy if the e-book.
.
Wow! This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last!
.
This book was delightful and uplifting and really easy to read.
I was able to get hooked in from the very first page.
.
The characters are all really lovely and easy to get along with other than Honey and Casper but it wouldn’t be a good book without someone who makes your eye twitch!
.
A great summer read and a fantastic start to a new series, I can’t wait to pick up the next book!

When your dog takes a dislike to your new boyfriend, you really do know that you should be running quickly in the opposite direction, don’t you? Even when it’s not your dog (and Herbert the labrador has to be one of my favourite characters in this book…), but you have no reason to doubt his judgement? I must admit I think I would have started running at the first twinkling eye and snaggle-toothed smile (that’s Caspar, not Herbert…), but Jemima (Mim) isn’t one of the world’s best at making life choices – her last boyfriend treated her so badly, she’s become a total doormat at work, and she’s so thoroughly lovely she deserves rather better. There are times you want to shake her, make her open her eyes a little… but she’s never anything other than entirely adorable, one of this world’s lovely people.

But I will apologise now, because I have to admit that this book really wasn’t quite my cup of tea to begin with. I do know that I’m probably considerably older than its target audience, and I maybe should have read the description rather more carefully. I have a bit of an aversion to anything quite so focused on the world of work – I just struggled to engage with the daily shenanigans at the offices of Yorkshire Portions magazine. And are there really workplaces that treat their workforce quite this badly in this day and age?

But I’ll skate past that, and say that there was actually rather a lot I did really like about this book. It’s a really fun read, and I very much liked Mim herself as she lurched from disaster to disaster – and I particularly enjoyed her supportive friendships, all so well drawn. There were a few characters I really didn’t like at all, but I wasn’t meant to – they might be only a whisker away from caricatures, but do work really well in terms of the humour and for the situations that develop (just wait until you meet Honey…).

I loved the York setting – maybe the Yorkshire Portions offices are on a fictional “Gate”, but I’ve sat in those queues of traffic, dodged the crowds on the pavements, had lunch in very similar cafes and pubs, and the author really brings the city streets to life. The focus is widened really well too – the village on the outskirts where Mim lives (and the neighbours closely watching every twist and turn of your life – I live in Wetherby, remember, so very familiar!), and the descriptions of the surrounding countryside as she takes Herbert for his walks are quite beautifully done.

And I must add that the writing is excellent – very well-written dialogue, and I liked the emotional touch with the sharing of Mim’s inner thoughts and struggles. The humour’s wonderful too – an undeniable “romp” at times, mainly driven by some of those more dislikable characters, but never anything other than really good fun.

And I really did enjoy Mim’s journey towards her happy-ever-after – the warmth of the friendships takes centre stage, she slowly finds her way (with a few slips off the path…), and I thought the ending was particularly perfect, with a really nice emotional touch.

While I do think a younger reader would probably enjoy it more, I really do recommend this one – a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon in the garden, and it’ll bring a smile to your face and most certainly warm your heart.

I have been a fan of Eliza's work for a while now. I love the way in which she creates such lovely characters and builds the story around them. I read the synopsis for 'Tell That To My Heart' and it certainly sounded like another amazing read. So without further ado, I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settled down to read. Oh boy, 'Tell That To My Heart' really was a cracking read, which I thoroughly enjoyed but more about that in a bit.
I absolutely loved the character of Jemima (Or Mim as she prefers to be known) and I took to her from the start. In fact it didn't take long for me to feel as though Mim had become a friend of mine. Mim is just adorable. She's also slightly accident prone and when she is late for work, she literally bumps into somebody who it turns out to be one of her new colleagues. Mim has a bit of a dodgy history where men are concerned as she has a habit of picking the bad ones, who treat her like dirt or cheat on her. Mim is one of life's good people, who deserves a 'happy ever after' ending. Mim takes a shine to Caspar, who is her new colleague and the one she literally bumped into on her way to work. However, is Caspar the man he appears to be? Will Mim get her 'happy ever after' ending? Well for the answers to those questions and so much more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.
Oh my goodness, 'Tell That To My Heart' was an absolutely brilliant read and there was so much about the book that I liked, that I don't know where to start with my review. I loved the cast of characters in the book- well apart from Honey and Caspar that is, who I could have quite cheerfully slapped across the face with a wet fish a few times. I had a feeling from the start that Caspar would prove to be a wrong 'un and I felt the same way that Herbert, the laid back Labrador that Mim is looking after, felt about him. I loved the fact that the dog was called Herbert and the fact that he was a Labrador because I have two lovely but very loopy beautiful yellow Labradors myself. Labradors are one of the most laid back dog breeds that I know and if they take a dislike to somebody or something then you know that there's a problem and that the person or thing is to be held at arm's length.
It didn't take me long at all to get into 'Tell That To My Heart'. In fact by the time I got to the end of the first chapter, I knew that I was going to have significant difficulties in putting the book down for any length of time. I immersed myself so deeply into the story that I managed to shut out all other distractions so I could focus on the book and I lost all track of time too. The first time I looked up to check how long I had been reading for, I was staggered to learn that I had been reading for two solid hours. My Kindle wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story and I just had to keep reading to find out if Mim got the happy ever after ending that she so deserved and whether or not me and Herbert were on the right track in our mistrust of Caspar.
'Tell That To My Heart' is superbly written but then I think that to be true of all of Eliza's books in general. She certainly knows how to grab your attention from the start and she then draws you into the story. Before long, you are hooked on the story and the characters. I know that 'Tell That To My Heart' is a work of fiction but I find that if I enjoy a story to the extent that I enjoyed this one then I tend to 'live' the story as if it were real. I felt as though I was part of the story, which is thanks to Eliza's very realistic and vivid storytelling.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Tell That To My Heart' and I would definitely recommend this delightful read to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Eliza's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

I absolutely love Eliza J Scott’s other books and was so excited when I saw that she was writing a new series with new characters. The series is called Heartshaped and book one is called Tell That To My Heart. The front cover is so lovely and colourful.

In Tell That To My Heart we meet Jemima (Mim) and her two best friends Anna-Lisa and Aidey who would do anything for Mim and be there in an instant if she ever needed help. A true friendship. They all work together at Yorkshire Portions magazine.

Caspar De Verre starts at the magazine and takes a liking to Mim straight away – not for the right reasons though. I didn’t like Caspar from the start – you get the vibe from the book immediately that he is not right for Mim but Mim’s heart rules her head and she cannot see it – Caspar gives her so many compliments that she cannot see past this despite how bad he treats her. I was totally with Anna-Lisa and Aidey on their intuition about Caspar and was willing Mim to see through his devious and deceptive ways. I really didn’t like how Caspar made Mim put Herbert in the utility room when he was at her house – I could imagine Herbert locked up so unhappy as he is so used to having the freedom of the whole house.

You could see very early on in the book how much Aidey doted on Mim and how much he liked her – each day he waits hoping that one day Mim will realise how much he thinks of her. He was genuinely hurt when Mim started dating Caspar and this was portrayed so well throughout the book. I wanted to go and shake Mim and say look how much Aidey thinks of you! Mim has had her heart broken so many times in the past and deserves so much happiness.

Aidey was also fully supportive when Mim was being so unfairly treated at work by Honey – I really didn’t like Honey at all – a very unpleasant jealous lady who at any chance she can did everything to get Mim in trouble.

I was over the moon when Mim and Aidey got together – they are the perfect couple who will make each other so complete and happy. I hope we hear so much more about their relationship and their new company – three best friends (four including Herbert: I am sure he can go too!) working together 😊 Mim deserves the future that is ahead of her.

Everyone needs a Herbert – the best companion you could ever have and need by your side 😊 I loved how he was a core part of the family and friendship group throughout the book.

Eliza has captured a wonderful story with incredible believable characters who you can visualise and relate too. You feel like you are one of their friends too and you get so involved in their lives you are rooting for them on every page. All three friends are like a family and can rely on each other always.

A super storyline full of friendship, love and solidarity, with fantastic characters who I cannot wait to find so much more about in future books. Congratulations and Thank you Eliza for such a fantastic start to your new series.

I highly recommend this five star book!

Thank you very much to Eliza J. Scott for my copy of your super book.

This was a wonderful read with some fabulous characters. Mim (Jemima) is a nightmare – if she was your friend in real life you’d definitely want to give her a good talking to! Despite her own gut telling her something isn’t right, and her dog Herbert having a violent reaction to Casper, she still goes ahead and gets involved. She’s had enough bad boys and heartbreak to know that she should make better decisions! But Casper is charming and handsome and definitely says the right things to get her onside.

Anna-Lisa and Aidey are the most patient of friends, although I was glad when Anna-Lisa told her how it was at one point!! However, her relationship with Mim made me think about how me and my bestie are – honest but loving and fiercely loyal and always there no matter what decisions we make, and that made me smile! Aidey is a darling – and puts up with so much girly talk!! He’s fabulous with Herbert and I just loved him from the start. The characters at their work are something else – all but one are pretty mean and I definitely wouldn’t have worked there for as long as this lot had!! Honey was an evil and manipulative little cow that needed a good slap!

I really enjoyed the plot. Although it’s been done before, it still made me smile and there are some hilarious moments throughout this. Mim has the best circle of friends and the antics they get up to in order to wind up their nosy neighbour are so funny. I also love that it’s set in and around York. Despite being a Southerner, York is one of my favourite places in the world so it was lovely to be back there (even if it was in my imagination!)

There are some tension inducing moments when you think some of the characters might get caught up to no good; as well as causing you to have anxiety for Mim and her dodgy decisions – and that decision making is most definitely put to the ultimate test……

No matter what happens throughout the book, I was so happy with the ending. It was very uplifting and heartwarming and definitely bought a smile to my face. So if you’re looking for your next read where you might want to slap a few characters, but you come away smiling, laughing and with a tingle in your heart, then this is for you! Looking forward to more from this author.

great read

This was such a fun read with a brilliant cast of characters. Mim (Jemima) is chaotic and infuriating—if she were your real-life friend, you’d definitely want to shake some sense into her! Despite her gut (and her dog Herbert!) warning her about Casper, she can’t resist his charm, even though her history with bad boys should have taught her better.

Thankfully, Mim’s friends Anna-Lisa and Aidey balance her out—loyal, patient, and always there, even when she makes terrible choices. Their friendship reminded me of the best kind of real-life bonds: honest, supportive, and unshakable. Aidey especially was a delight, and his scenes with Herbert made me adore him even more.

The story may tread familiar ground, but it’s filled with humor, warmth, and laugh-out-loud moments—especially the antics with their nosy neighbor. The York setting was another highlight, making me feel right at home.

There are plenty of tense moments as Mim’s poor decisions catch up with her, but the ending is uplifting, heartwarming, and leaves you smiling. If you enjoy stories with messy but lovable characters, fierce friendships, and a dash of chaos, this is a perfect pick.

Tell That To My Heart is the first book in the Heartshaped series set in delightful NorthYorkshire.

Jemima 'Mim' Dewberry thought landing her dream job at Yorkshire Portions magazine was a dream come true. However, working there hasn't lived up to her expectations. When two new employees arrive; Caspar De Verre and Honey Blossom Blenkinsop, one instantly sends her heart racing, while the other is a reminder of a broken heart she suffered. When items begin to go missing in the office, Mim's shocked to find someone is trying to frame her. In addition, her new beau has a strange request. Thankfully, her friends are close by to help her work everything out and to make her realise what she always wanted, has been there all along.

This novel has a little bit of everything, mystery, deceit, lies and romance, as Mim's work life becomes more chaotic than it usually is. Aidey and Anna-Lisa are her close friends and allies at Yorkshire Portions who loyally help to protect her against their volatile employer, Catherine. Herbert, her four-legged friend is an equally loyal companion and an exquisite judge of character. With humour, despair, heartbreak and hope, There's a heart-warming happy ending, and promises of new beginnings.

One aspect I adore about Ms Scott's novels is their settings. The backdrop for this one is York, a city I know well and one I haven't had a chance of visiting in a long while. I enjoy the familiarity of revisiting a favourite place whilst getting to know the endearing characters who live and work there.

To sum up, Tell That To My Heart is a sterling start in what promises to be a delightful series.

The characters in this novel are quickly established and it is pretty clear from early on, who you empathise with and who makes you want to boo! The three central figures of Mim (Jemima), Aidey and Anna-Lisa are close friends which never wavers throughout. I loved the setting, at York, and found that there was much humour to be found amongst Mim's neighbours.

With a mystery at the heart, a touch of romance on a slow boil, there is plenty to keep you invested. Mim's family background goes some way to explaining why she reacts as she does and why her self esteem is so low. As we are told that all of Eliza J Scott's stories end with a happy ending, you kind of always hope that love will find a way but at times, you could shake Mim for not seeing what is in front of her. Herbert, the labrador, is of course a big scene stealer and as it turns out, an excellent judge of character!

In short: A heart-warming story with a mystery to solve.
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book.

As a fan of this authors previous series of books I was very excited to discover the start of this new ‘Heartshaped’ series with ‘Tell That to my Heart.’

Eliza J Scott creates wonderful characters that you take to your heart almost immediately; brilliant community settings that are well described and make you want to take. Her books are always full of heart, love, kindness, and compassion.

I love that Eliza always gives us a key group of strong characters who have brilliantly, supportive friendships. Mim is our main character in this book but she is always fully supported by great friends, Anna Lise, Aidey and Carly. They have such fun when they are all together and it comes across so nicely in Eliza’s writing. Also, I must mention Herbert – he is one to judge people quickly!

Mim is working well at Yorkshire Portions magazine, it is a good job and she gets to spend time with her close friends. This all starts to unravel with the arrival of a couple of new arrivals. One gets Mim’s heart racing and the other gets on her nerves. Quite quickly strange things start happening around the office and it becomes clear that someone has it in for Mim.

With her heart and her job both at risk, can Mim figure out the truth before everything gets out of hand?

This is an absolute corker. I adored every moment of reading this one, I could not put it down. I laughed, I was surprised and shocked, I could have quite happily booed along pantomime style with some parts. It a fantastic read and I cannot wait for the next in the series!

Tell That to MY Heart

Eliza has done it again. Such a lovely story of a workplace that was toxic and the workers struggling until it all slotted into place. I couldn’t put the book down. Thoroughly good read, cam certainly recommend you read it.

I really enjoyed reading this book and for Mim realising her love for Aidey even though she went through a lot to get there.

When your head and heart are telling you different things…

Jemima (Mim) is not enjoying her job that much... Instead of having the dream job, she feels like she’s more the “coffee – lady”. But luckily for her, she has two great colleagues who have become real friends, Anna – Lisa and Aidey.
When there are two new colleagues announced, she has mixed feelings. Caspar is REALLY good-looking and charming. And then we have Honey… There is some bad history between Mim and Honey, yet Mim is adamant to put the past behind her and make the best of it.
But does Honey have same resolutions?
When Mim and Caspar go a bit further than being just colleagues, Ann – Lisa and Aidey try to warn her, as they are having doubts about Caspar’s good intentions. And when Mim’s dog Herbert also dislikes Caspar, there must be a reason to it, right?
While she is struggling with her job, and now also struggling with her heart, will her head be the voice of sense and truth?

It often happens that when somebody starts a relationship, and the friends are trying to warn him/her, the warnings fall on deaf ears.
But Mim show here what an amazing character she is… instead of just agreeing with Caspar, she actually listens to Anna – Lisa and Aidey.
She is not a nitwit, but she has a real mind of her own, and trusts her instincts. Only too bad for her she has a history of dating bad boys…
Mim is so much fun to be around, and together with her friends, it’s a recipe for hilarious adventures which were great to read about.
Also the bond they have is unique… because it’s not because you’re colleagues, you’re automatically friends. Yet they are always there for each other, having each other’s back and being friends in the true meaning of the word even if it means saying things you don’t want to hear.

There are many characters that will make smile, but also a few which you immediately dislike and mistrust.
It’s a lovely story about standing up for yourself, not being bullied in something you really don’t want to. But also about trusting your friends, and your gut feeling.
And that dogs always are right with who they like and dislike!

A eeny meeny tiny remark, I would have loved to read more about the ending. It was a bit too quick for me.  I would have loved to see more how that would go on in the future. I was all set for having more of it when the last words were already there.
But overall a nice story to read about friendship and love!
