The Haunting at Sebring Hotel A Riveting Haunted House Mystery Series, Book 13 By: J.S Donovan Narrated by: Cheryl May A pretty good creepy haunted hotel book with scary ghosts and scarier people! A mom with two teen boys try to start a new life by fixing up an old historical hotel and ends up getting more for their money than they bargained for. The hotel has a very dark history and is occupied already. Lots of good creepy moments, scary situations with nonhuman and humans, good plot, and satisfying ending. Narration was easy on the ears and good with voices. I received this book from freeaudiblecodes.
I want that 304 pages of my life back. This book was as if AI wrote it….but where Artificial Intelligence is actually Artificial UNintelligence still in its Beta stage 20 some odd years ago. Never was there ever a book that required editing more. I’m usually all for self-publishing (you do you), but this shit has me questioning that mentality. Oof.
Once again, an enjoyable enough story, filled with just about the right amount of suspense and mystery. Enjoyable characters. However, I will always become annoyed at paid writers who get sloppy with having their stories edited...or not. This one just had too many grammatical errors.
This book is poorly written. Heavy I handed prose, out-of-character dialog, bad grammar, and misused words are the tip of the iceberg. This writer needs professional editing assistance. The style is barely high school level.
two homophobic slurs in the first 15 pages is not a good look, especially when they are said by a 17 year old "Gen Z" character. if i can read your book with the slurs omitted and there is no narrative difference, then you don't need your fucking slurs.
not to mention the numerous grammar and spelling mistakes in the first few chapters alone. this book is in desperate need of an editor, because as always when it comes to this series, it's quantity over quality.
This is perhaps, one of the most poorly written books I’ve ever read. Others have mentioned that it needs the help of an editor. I’m not sure even that could save it.
It is full of words that are used incorrectly: “…he continued down the hall and passed the premonition.” It’s also full of grammatical atrocities: “Much to his shock, James Hunt was seated in the back booth.” It hurt my brain to read some of this.
The biggest sin is that the author doesn’t understand how the world works. His understanding of how law enforcement works all comes from… uh, I guess episodes of SpongeBob? I just kept saying, “No. that’s not what would happen. That’s not what he would do.” He also throws in unrealistic moments, such as all of the main characters having lock-picking skills (and carrying previously unmentioned lock-picking kits with them when suddenly needed).
One of the biggest “twists” can be spotted miles away.
The sad part is that the idea for the story is not all that bad. It is just put together so poorly that it becomes painful to read.
This is part of some ridiculous Amazon haunted house collection. It is so bad that I won’t bother with any of the rest.
Oh. And my favorite part. The title is “The Haunting of Sebring Hotel.” That isn’t even the name of the hotel in the book. It’s like the author decided to change the name of the hotel while writing it, but didn’t bother to rename the book.
1⭐️ The Haunting at Sebring Hotel was a tense, suspense filled novel, however did feel like it was written by two completely different authors. The descriptions were thoughtful and detailed, written very calmly and reflectively, whereas the action and dialogue felt manic, often written very crudely with expletives. Neither of these are the wrong approach, but when read side by side, were very jarring.
This book was filled with typos from calling characters The wrong name to using the wrong words example “violet wind” even though I wanted to stop reading several times I forced myself to continue because I have a hard time not finishing something I have started. Would not recommend this atrocity.
I have to agree with those who’ve said this book is in desperate need of a good editor. Aside from the typical misspelling mistakes there are missing words, incorrect words, characters mentioned with the wrong names, etc etc.. The story is pretty good and kept me reading despite the problems and often just juvenile writing style.
Anna Hall arrives in Sebring, Maine with her two teenage boys. Investing her late husband's life insurance policy into the nearly forgotten motel, Club Blue, the ambitious single mother hits the much-needed reset button on her troubled life, and the ghosts start coming out
I had to stop reading when I encountered a derogatory slur. It had nothing to do with character development or plot, so completely unnecessary and offensive.
I have never seen this many typographical errors in any book. Honestly reads like it was written in another language and translated into English by a non-native speaker. ( and near the end of the book, Justin is listening to the radio in the SUV. He is in Maine and the ‘local’ radio station’s call-letters begin with a K- bad detail: all call letters east of the Mississippi begin with W).
I enjoyed this book and raced through to the end as the suspense ratcheted up. I especially liked the teenaged characters, the two sons of the beleaguered new owner of Club Blue, and the young daughter of one of the guests. I can't say more without spoilers, but I truly wasn't certain about what was going on until the end.
I loved the concept of this novel! I believe it would even make a great film adaptation. I enjoyed the characters and their different points of view. I had guessed the conclusion, but I still enjoyed the idea of it. The ending felt rushed which left me wanting more. Overall, it was a very good idea but was lacking in a few areas that could’ve really set this novel apart from the others!
If you love a haunted house tale, how much more of thrill can you get from a whole hotel? Welcome to Sebring Maine, the home of Club Blue. Its history will take you for a ride! Loved the story and the characters, the greatest of them being Club Blue.
This book was a fast read and a good book. I only gave it 4 stars because there was a lot writing errors in the book. Obviously it was not edit before being released.
J.S. Donovan’s Haunting at Sebring Hotel was a quick read and quite a thriller. I was unable to put it down once l began & was treated to a surprise ending l never dreamed of. It keeps you guessing throughout & l was impressed. Will definitely read more from this author.
Good read. I love to find an author that knows how to write a good spook mystery. This is that awesome book. I recommend this but only if you are prepared to get into a page turner that you can't put down.
Hard to tell who is real and who is not Then people leave along with all their belongings but only leave a note instead of checking out . Are they alive or what? Very enjoyable and spellbinding. Would be entertaining to teens as well as adults.
Easy suspenseful reading. Horror & grotesque descriptions. Widow wants a new chance @ life by purchasing an old picturesque hotel not knowing its true history & its dead inhabitants.
Was all set to give this one 4 stars. Got to the end........ BANG! 5 stars!!!!!!!! Loved it. Would gladly read another by this author. Very simple read......... nothing to indepth.......... the kind of book you pick up and just read. I enjoyed it.
This n Book just kept on moving one scary scene to a scene of a family trying to make it tell you what you keep writing them and ill keep reading them sincerely Christine Dunne Harlingen Texas maybe ill write one of my own
Good premise, some interesting twists, but bad editing (if any) and writing was flat. Felt lackluster and rushed, with main characters not really engaging or likable. Seeing how many books are in the series, I think this is a case of quantity > quality.
This book has so many surprises and twists, it takes you through some very scary and violent scenes. Even the last page has a new surprise. I loved this story because it is one that you cannot guess ahead of time. Very enjoyable!
Drama, suspense, mysteries, missing and dead people, all make this a intense book. Once Club Blue was a private club with strange occurrences; now it is the recently purchased hotel of a widow and her two teenage sons. This is the story of their near tragic survival.
I loved this book, it kept you on TBE edge of your seat all the way through. I especially like all of the different spooks and dreaded descriptions. Very vivid. I'm on to read the next book in this series.
Great idea for a book but not much enjoyed by me. It jumped around too much and the grammar and punctuation were second rate. Good luck in the future and get a person to read it for you for errors.
