Barry and Iris go on a world tour to learn about the new forces. He meets some new characters channeling the strength and sage forces, but he doesn't really learn much. There's a slight revelation at the end, but it's nowhere near as earth-shattering as Williamson tries to make it. These forces at this point haven't been very interesting. Rafa Sandoval and Christian Duce handle the bulk of the art, making the book look great.

I stopped reading Flash for a bit because this run has lost its way. This volume is better than the last but I still feel like Joshua is missing something.

So Flash is learning about the other "Forces" like Strength and so on. And in doing so he's going around the world trying to unite them all so they can take on whatever is coming. At the same time two thieves are running around being annoying little shits killing people because they want Flash to suffer as always.

See the story here isn't bad. I actually like seeing Barry and Iris team up and take down baddies. The dialogue ranges from solid to WAY to much exposition. The villains range from pretty cool moments to corny as hell. The best thing that's happening is Commander Cold storyline in this book but it's the background noise of it all.

While not great the ending sets up what happens to Wally in heroes of crisis. For that alone I give it a bit higher. A 3 out of 5.

[Note: This collection actually collects #58-63, and not #66-69, as the solicitation states. It's also only released in paperback.]

In the wake of Dark Nights: Metal, and the devastation of Justice League: No Justice, new forces were unleashed into the world. Now, the Flash isn’t the only force-powered hero, and only by visiting these new heroes can the Flash fully understand the nature of the Speed Force. But the avatars of the Sage, Strength, and Still Forces might not be as helpful as Barry might hope.

After the Reckoning Of The Forces in the previous volume, it’s time for an adventure! Barry and Iris head off around the world to meet some new friends. Joshua Williamson is trying to do a Geoff Johns, enhancing the Flash mythos with some new additions, and for the most part they work pretty well. Fuerza and Psych are fun for different reasons, and the situations that they put Barry in as he meets them are different from the usual Central City adventures that he gets up to. The husband-and-wife team Gemini are pretty damn creepy as well. The best thing about all these characters however is that they offer decent reasons to be actual threats for the Flash – it’s always hard to believe that some dude with a cold gun is a formidable threat, but facing off against those with similar powers narrows the suspension of belief nicely.

While the actual ‘answers’ we get aren’t exactly concrete, it’s the introspective nature of the journey that really pay off more than anything else. The B plot about Commander Cold and the rise of the Trickster is well-executed as well, setting up the next volume even as this one chugs along nicely.

On art is new series artist Rafa Sandoval, who brings his epic splash pages across from Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps. His art’s still a little static now and then, which is a problem for a book like The Flash, but the spectacle is such that it’s almost worth forgiving. Also included are Christian Duce and Minkyu Jung, two of DC’s rotating stable of fill-in artists – Duce is the more impressive of the two, but I think this is more due to his strikingly detail style than anything negative on Jung’s part; there’s a reason she was chosen to relaunch Kamala Khan’s solo adventures over at Marvel.

Force Quest is the next in a long line of impressive Flash stories, one that opens up a lot of new avenues for Williamson and beyond. There’s a lot of potential here, and you can feel that this is just the beginning of what the creative team have in store for Barry and his newest allies.

Some answers on the new forces, but of course more questions. Still not sure where this is going. This overall story is very similar to JMS' initial run on Amazing Spider-Man, involving the different totems. Didn't care much for it because it needlessly adds another layer to the powers/origins, while at the same time, slightly pulling a fast one on the readers, especially the long-term ones.

The art is much better in this volume than previously. All the styles are cleaner, and figures aren't as distorted. Liked the design for Fuerza too

Still on the fence about this whole thing.

Basic plot: Flash goes on a force quest to discover more about the different forces.

I'm still not fully sure how I feel about these different forces, but they are being revealed in a way that makes them character and world relevant, so the writer is making the whole thing make sense at least. The art was a lot more consistent and of good quality in this volume. Overall, a decent arc.

2.5/5

Ughhhh, the first issues were so fucking boring, those about the type of forces that exist in the universe. And the last arc was a little bit better, The Trickster literally tricked all Central City as well as Flash, it was just fine. Next arc “Year one” seems to be pretty nice.

As Barry and Iris head out on the "Force Quest", leaving Commander Cold in charge of Central City, they encounter a pair of new villains, calling themselves Gemini, who fight against Barry and new companions throughout the whole Volume. Knowing that he is the avatar of the Speed Force, and Grodd is the new avatar of the Still Force, his quest helps him to find Fuerza, the avatar of the Strength Force, and Psych, the avatar of the Sage Force.
Communicating with Gorilla City throughout the Quest, Barry eventually finds out two things:
1) The information that they received about the Four Forces working together is a lie. They were each other's greatest villains, all fighting for control of the Forever Force.
2) While Barry has been hunting with the purpose of learning and teamwork, Hunter Zolomon has been trying to find out how to control all the forces, and killing anyone who stands in his way.

The end leads into Heroes in Crisis, but I've already read that...

Are we heading for a huge showdown with the avatars of the Four Forces? What is the Forever Force? Either way, I'm in for the long haul... would love to see something new happen with Flash.
Recommend.

This was another great one!

Barry and Iris go on a quest first to Badhnisia where they fight the Gemini (Santiago and Belladonna) and its an interesting encounter then to Gorilla city where they see the aftermath of some war but its from Solovar they learn about the forces and then Corto Maltese where they team up with FUERZA to fight Cauldron and its a fun story showing other side of the world and how the heroes help there and I loved that one!

Finally the story in Zandia where they team up with Psych aka Bashir or maybe fight against him and a lot of villains and a story that also involves with Gemini but that will change their entire world. Its a great fight showing that not every one is a good guy and it also shows Barry the dark side of things and the real face of these forces.

Its an interesting story and has good moments and does a good job introducing Fuerza and Psych but also lacks in some areas with action but its one of those volumes that build towards the bigger thing and pays off the build up in future volumes and the art for the most part is good. So yeah read this volume for sure to understand future volumes!

A story arc that has dragged on far to long already is diminished further with the all to common 'everything we thought we knew was WRONG!!!' trope.

2.5 out of 5 stars

The new character, Fuerza, is a welcome addition to the cast and I’m happy to see Barry and Iris visit other fictional places around the world, but the new Forces are still lacking the level of lore and definition that the Speed Force does even though though exploring these new powers are the whole focus of the book. Part of that is intentional, as we discover former Speed Force users purposefully destroyed evidence these power sources existed, but it also feels like Williamson routinely runs out of time to submit something other than rough drafts and sloppy melodrama.

Speaking of which, Barry continues to have these inner monologues that are super mopey and out of character. It’s gotten to the point where I actively avoid thought bubbles when reading these Flash book so I can have a better experience. I can’t wait to be done with this series and move on to something else.

My feelings are very mixed with this book. I like the story buildup, the Flash/Iris relationship/banter, and the artwork. I'm getting some serious Green Lantern vibes when Geoff Johns rolled out the six additional types of rings. Only it does not seem as well thought out, nor as relevant, nor as integral or useful to the DC Universe as a whole. I guess we'll just have to see what comes next in this book series.

The Flash, Barry Allen, finally started his new adventure and brought Iris along on his Force-quest. To find out more about the forces, especially the Strength and the Sage force, which he already came across in Central City.

Now, he meets Fuerza and Psych, the new avatars for the strength and sage force respectively. Meanwhile he gets followed and chased down by Gemini, two lovers who are obsessed with becoming immortal and want to absorb the Flash's powers and the forces, in order to do so.

The artwork was amazingly done, the story gripping and the writing exceptional. The big question is, where is this story leading to? Is there gonna be another big war/showdown? Because Barry finds out that the forces always fought each other, instead of teaming up, and one force must win over the others...

The Flash Vol. 10: Force Quest

Barry and Iris to on a journey to try and embrace the Speed Force. After meeting two more people who possess aspects of the Strength Force and the Sage Force, Barry discovers the truth behind the Forces and must decide how to confront this horrific knowledge.

Superb art and a story which examines the Flash's place in the DC Universe, Williamson works hard to explain the importance of spirituality in this comic series.

This volume from Joshua Williamson shows his potential much better, and that he’s at least a successor to the kind of myth-building Geoff Johns exhibited in the pages of Green Lantern. Now I’ve got all kinds of questions as to whether or not the war of the Forces reached a conclusion…!

More of the same from previous volume, dare I say it's padding. Not super engaging but if I was more into the other forces I would have liked it more.

This volume covers issues 58-63 of the post-Rebirth Flash.

Plot Synopsis: In this collection, Barry and Iris start the Flash's "Force quest" to find out more about the Sage, Still, and Strength forces unleashed on the multiverse. Meanwhile, Commander Cold (cold-themed cop from the future takes care of Central City. While Barry investigates, he meets the different avatars of the forces, as well as new villains named Gemini.

Plot Details

Review: This was a pretty solid collection, although personally I don't like how Barry's being represented in this story. He is very much the "moody Barry" that he's been for most of Williamson's run, weighted down by almost constant guilt over one thing or another, to the point where any mention of him as a symbol of Hope seems insincere. I would say the bright spot of this collection, is meeting the new force avatars, who aren't heroes in the traditional sense, but rather just people with powers, almost in the way mutants pop up in X-men without necessarily being "good guys" or "bad guys." These characters are all pretty gray. I liked how each "force" power is more than just the name, much in the same way that Barry and the other speedsters use the Speed Force to not just run but also travel through time, vibrate through walls, and throw lightning. I also liked the Gemini characters, who have a sort of evil-immortal Hawk-thing going on. I enjoyed pretty much all the scenes were these new characters showed up.
That being said, I think it's a shame when the Flash is the least interesting thing in a Flash book. Barry should be doing so much better.
The art is standard, nothing special, but it does the job. There are some nicer panels, but like I said...

Overall, I would say this is an okay read. I read it pretty quickly, mostly for the info on the forces. We don't get too much detail on what they do, exactly, but it was interesting to see how new users applied them. Recommended for people reading the series. although I suppose if you were a somewhat new reader, it wouldn't be that bad either, just a bit confusing.

Okay, to be honest.... probably more like 2.5. But I couldn't bring myself to give it the full 3. It was a totally solid, fine story, but... I've got to be honest, this whole "other forces" thing... and now there's going to be a "force war...." I don't know, it's definitely farther than my suspension of disbelief stretches. That said, I do really enjoy Barry and Iris' relationship, as well as Barry's voice. There was a lot of fun to be had in the volume and some solid action. But the whole concept--you know, the PLOT--isn't really working for me, so if that's not working... well, that's kind of a big deal. Then, on a completely personal note, I had purposely skipped volume 8 because I knew it led into "Heroes in Crisis" (which I heard will make me depressed if I'm lucky, infuriated if I'm not), and what happens at the end of this volume? Wally being dead!?!?! (I don't know all the details--I've not read it, and I avoid spoilers the best that I can. Of course, the key phrase is "best that I can.") Ugh.

Ok so after Dark Knights and Justice League no justice Barry finds out he isn’t the only one with an awesome force that can give him powers and stuff so he goes out on a world quest I guess to learn the secrets of the speed force and the other forces.

The story is pretty all over the place, one second we’re in Corto Maltese with Fuerza who’s a pretty cool strength force user then we’re in Zambia with a sage force user named Psych but it’s still really fun and interesting. The start was rough and didn’t hook me but I really enjoyed the Fuerza and Psych part later in the story.

The art wasn’t as great in this book, while it was still good it wasn’t as good as Howard Porters consistent awesome art, but Hi-Fi still comes and saves it with his colouring and it brings the pages to life especially with Fuerza and Corto Maltese.

Overall, pretty good.

After years of Barry Allen's life stinking and the book trying to be edgy, I think Joshua Williamson is really settled into a direction as Barry goes on a Force Quest to find out the secrets of the new forces unleashed as a result of Barry's war with Wally West. While I'm still not convinced of the necessity of the new forces, the characters and situations are genuinely interesting and there's a nice bit of exploration of the relationship between Barry and Iris. Overall, one of the best volumes in Williamson's run.

The Flash goes on a FORCE QUEST ... which apparently means that he meets yet other people with the other Forces, and even some Force vampires. Though this volume has the nice advantage of including Iris on the mission (and giving occasional lip service to the fact that she now has extra memories), it really doesn't have more depth than that. The new force users that we meet aren't that interesting, and we learn very little new about the forces themselves.

It's just a big SNIPE HUNT, but that presumably wasn't as good of a title.

I just don’t know why.. whenever we go to Gorilla City.. something bad happens.

Another generic volume, introduction of Gemini (twins?) and Fuerza did nothing to make this interesting.
Christian Duce art in issues 61 and 62 with Barry and Iris playing undercover villains was solid. Change of artist on 63 and the story fizzling out didn’t help.

Fine enough Flash story. I do feel like where it was going could be derailed by Heroes in Crisis...and I'm not fully sure about the new layers being added to the Speed Force.

The Flash and Iris travel the world on Barry's "Force quest" to have him find out more about the new forces that have recently appeared in the Flash book - the sage force, strength force, and still force.

He promises Iris that he will take her anywhere he goes, so they can learn together. And for the most part, he does. Together, they start untangling the legend of the forces, starting in Gorilla City, where there has been a massacre. Two villains who have tasted the forces begin hunting Barry, in order to absorb(?) his speed force and use it to become immortal. The book uses these two villains as filling for the book, as the stuff with the forces, doesn't really warrant a whole book/plotline. Honestly, the whole forces thing is wearing thin, and its only just beginning, so the book is quickly becoming one of my least favorite DC titles.

On the plus side, the art by Rafa Sandoval and Christian Duce are pretty excellent. I think the best thing about this volume is the art, and if anything, its a nice book to look at at least. All the artists on the book do a great job, but unfortunately the art itself cant elevate the story, which is kind of boring.

Even if you're a huge Flash fan, this storyline about the forces feels contrived and irrelevant, so I cant recommend it unfortunately, unless you are completionist.

Mamy nowe moce w świecie Barry'ego i trzeba je jakoś po-ogarniać.

Dobra robota.

It's about time Barry Allen started learning about the new Forces in the universe...

A road trip is in order. Iris tags along claiming that her pre 'New 52' knowledge could come in handy. (I'll believe that when I see it). With Grodd having control of the Still Force user, The Flash goes adventuring out in the world...looking for the wielders of the Sage and Strong Force. He's hoping that he can unify the wielders and learn more about how these Forces work.

Mopey Barry is still consistently mopey. He's continually complaining about having to learn things over again. That's probably, IMHO, the one thing that makes me want to hurl the book across the room. Also, these Forces are controlled by A-holes. Surprise! (Not really!)

Bonus: ...another War? Seriously?
Bonus Bonus: Commander Cold getting busy 'defending' the town while The Flash is questing. (Commander Cold be knocken' dem' boots)
