One extraordinary night. Two lives moving in opposite directions. A burning flame neither will forget.
Since her mom’s mysterious disappearance eleven years ago, Rayna has suffered from paralyzing fear, making her a prisoner in her own home. But when her best friend scores tickets to the hottest New Year’s Eve party in Los Angeles, Rayna is determined to overcome her phobia and go.
Cain isn’t looking for a serious relationship. He has too many secrets and is too much of a wanderer to settle down, so he’s not looking for anything more serious than a casual hookup. Then he meets Rayna, and he can’t deny the electrifying way she piques his interest. But is their connection enough to tame his nomadic heart? Or will one unforgettable night be all they share?
The last thing Rayna expects when her path crosses Cain’s is for the sexy stranger to quiet her anxiety, steal her sense of reason, and compel her to take the biggest risk of her life and spend the night with him. Crazy? Yes. Reckless? Absolutely. But she’s never felt more alive and refuses to let the night end without seeing how far her newfound courage will take her, even if it means breaking all the rules.

REVIEW: LIGHTNING STRIKES is the prequel novella in Donya Lynne’s contemporary, adult SAVAGE STORM erotic, romance series. This is twenty-five year old Rayna and Cain’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Rayna and Cain) LIGHTNING STRIKES focuses on a New Year’s Eve celebration, one in which Rayna will bury her fears, her struggles with agoraphobia, that see our heroine pushing beyond her issues, and into a night of unbridled passion. A one-night stand wherein Cain wakes alone with only his memories of the night before, and our heroine’s forgotten panties.
LIGHTNING STRIKES is a very quick read that introduces Cain and Rayna, and the potential for so much more.
This in the beginning felt very incomplete. We open to a heavily active setting and get a lot of traumatic info dumped right away on us. Considering it’s a novella I understand why but it is a jarring thing. Still it managed to find its legs in the second half and instead give us a well paced story with a hot ass finale and an almost hopeful ending.
This book is all about overcoming fear and living in the moment. Rayna is filled with fear from her own past but needs to learn the whole world isn't evil. Cain is the right guy in the right place to help Rayna overcome her fear. I can't wait to read more!
Such an amazing read. I couldn't put the book down. I loved how the author put great detail in explaining things. I've never read anything like this can't wait to read the next book.
First red flag...I was shocked when I finished this book in under 45 minutes...did not realize it was a novella. Not that it mattered much because the story line was not what I expected either. Rayna, the main character is fighting the fear of being in public ever since her mom disappeared. There is not much of a back story to this event and not sure how it will tie in later. Her best friend holds her hand basically while they attend a New Years Eve party. Clearly Rayna is terrified, scared, like a wallflower, petrified yada, yada, yada.....BUT she meets a handsome stranger at this party and the next 60% of the book is about their "magical" night together.
How after all this time, a total stranger can make her feel uninhibited and totally wipe out her paralyzing and terrifying phobia *cue huge eye roll here*. The storyline was far fetched, it had huge gaps of information and the likely hood of a little "d" knocking out a phobia Rayna has had for years...well, you get the gist of what Im saying....I am actually glad that it didnt continue any longer then it did. This book was not for me and I dont think I will be reading any follow up books :-(

How a total stranger can make her feel uninhibited and totally wipe out her paralyzing and terrifying phobia is a mystery to me. The storyline was a little unbelievable and had huge gaps of information. The likelihood of a little "d" knocking out a phobia Rayna has had for years didn't sit well with me. This book was not for me but perhaps you will find the premise more appealing and fall in love.
Rayna is fighting her fear of being in public places since her mom went missing. Tired that her paralyzing phobia is keeping her from living her life, she’s determined to finally go out for New Year’s Eve. With the help of her best friend she ventures out and at the party meets the handsome Cain who makes her feel ‘free’ from her fears and take a huge leap of faith.
Okay, so I don’t really have a problem with storylines that are a little unlikely, because well, it’s fiction. What I do have a issue with is when the story seems to not give all the information or just seems too implausible. The fact that Rayna couldn’t stand to be in public, but manages to go to Net Year’s Eve party and lose herself with Cain just seemed a bit much for a few hours. Still, the chemistry and connection between them was there and strong. Had the story been a bit longer and more details about Rayna’s mom given I would have probably been able lose myself in the story more. I was intrigued enough to want to continue the series.
Get ready for a lot of information in a short amount of time! After fighting debilitating fears and anxieties for years after the disappearance of her mother, Rayna has decided to push herself and test her limits by going out on New Years Eve with a friend. While debating if she made the right choice, she ends up meeting Cain and the chemistry between them is through the roof. Get prepared for some insta-love and quick timing because they move from casual conversation to deep life stories pretty quickly, and from there they move to the bedroom as well. There was a decent amount from this story that frustrated me – I just really wanted more. I wish there was more background information on Rayna and her past, as well as Cain. I also wish that it didn’t feel rushed because it was a novella. I’m interested to see the full novel that comes after this novella and if it helps to resolve the questions from this one. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is the first story I’ve read by this author and I can’t wait to read more by her. This story is about Cain and Rayna’s magical New Year’s Eve night together. Rayna has been acrophobic since her mother disappeared, so her friend had an uphill battle to get her to go out on New Year’s Eve. Cain is the stranger she needs on New Year’s Eve and has a night of unbridled passion with. He wakes up and Rayna has disappeared only leaving him with her unmentionables. I can’t wait to see how this series plays out with the brief introduction of Cain and Rayna, I hope they play a bigger part in this overall series.
This is a short into to the bigger story in the Savage Storm series. Overall I found this entertaining and plenty steamy. There is an underlying story as to why Rayna has serious mental health issues and has suffered with agoraphobia most of her adult life. After a tentative introduction she spends one of the most adventurous nights of her life with Cain on New Year's Eve. I have gone on to read the next book and can thoroughly recommend the series so far.
Everything about this story was rushed. She has trust issues with the world but get over in in one night to leave a party with a stranger and have bdsm type sex, then leaves the next morning and get on with her life like nothing happened. Seems unlikely and strange. If I was Cain I would run far from her, she sounds deranged.
DNF at 53%. I kept waiting for the characters to have real chemistry, stop being awkward, and get out of their heads between every stage of the conversation. None of that ever happened, and reading felt like pulling a truck through mud. For the first half of the book, the FMC arrives at a party, talks with the first man who approached her, and finally dances with him. Seriously?
After years of living in fear of the shadows Rayna has finally decided to try out living. This year will change her life if she’s willing to step out from her comfort zone.
This authors writing style is not my thing. The character development needs work big time. They are really jumpy. I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of the series unfortunately, because it could be a promising story.
