"She was gone now, and I had only myself to blame, but I didn’t want to forget.

Even though it was painful, even though I had failed her many times over, she was the best thing that had ever happened to me."

There's no doubt that Keirran really screwed up but omg my boy is hurting so much and I just want to cry :(

"I felt my insides clench painfully, like a claw had grabbed my stomach and twisted it around, but I forced myself not to shrink before the Seelie King.

Not to let him know I was dying inside."

PAIINNNNNNN *sobs*

I swear to god, Keirran NEEDS his HEA in this new series OR ELSE—

also Puck's love interest IS AN ASSASSIN

This was so short, but OMG!!!

Leave it to Kierran and Puck to make a wedding memorable.

I have this powerful urge to re-read the whole series, I had so much fun the first time, I loved it, but there are so many books...

Shadow’s Legacy is interesting. Friends and family gather to the wedding of the Iron Queen Meghan Chase’s brother, however one wedding guest feels a different emotion than the rest. The King of the Forgotten can’t forget his lost love and when he slips away from the celebration, he is attacked and called a fraud by a strange faery. Now Keirran and his family must form a wary alliance to track the strange new threat, a creature of rage and hatred that threatens the new-found peace of Faery. Shadow’s Legacy is filled with emotion, an ending and a new beginning.

Keirran tries to adjust to being King of the Forgotten as he makes a home for them in the Between. He continues to feel guilty and regret over his betrayal when he sided with The Lady and the destruction he had caused to the Nevernever. As he prepares to join his human family and faery courts in the human realm for the wedding of Ethan Chase and Kenzie, Keirran can’t help but still feel the loss of his own beloved. While at the wedding, Kierran helps his friends when one of Puck’s wedding gifts gets out of hand only to discover someone has been watching him. Kierran finds himself facing against, Nyx, a forgotten looking for the Forgotten Queen and finds her to be a dangerous threat.

Overall Shadow’s Legacy was okay. It was great to see an ending to Ethan and Kenzie’s story and to see what happened to Keirran after the Iron Warrior. A nice sneak peek to what the next Iron series will bring. I enjoyed it. Can’t wait.

I have to know. What is Shadow's Legacy? What's it about?

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Shadow's Legacy, the prequel to the Evenfall series, provided me with an interesting glimpse into the world of the Iron Fey.  I never read the books from the Iron Fey series, but I had no difficulty following the events in Shadow's Legacy.  The author provided sufficient back story about the characters and the world of the Fey, which made it easy to follow the story.

The hero Keirran, struggles with guilt stemming from past acts of betrayal. A betrayal, which led to him being banished from Nevermore. Now he rules  The Between, the world of the Forgotten.  The Forgotten are Feys of the darkness. Meanwhile, in the human realm, his best friends are on the verge of getting married. His guilty conscience had him second guessing attending. However, as the best man he had no choice but to be present. Also not attending would mean incurring the wrath of  his friends. Upon his arrival and prior to the start of the wedding,  he found himself in an interesting situation created by Puck. In offering to help he came face to face with a dangerous assassin.

I enjoyed this short but exciting trip into the world of the Iron Fey. Now I am looking forward to reading the Iron Raven. Also I feel the need to  read the books written prior to this new series. I can’t believe I passed up the opportunity to jump into this world years ago, but as they say, better late than never.

Puck and Nyx intrigued me, and learning  they would be appearing in the Iron Raven had me all excited.

Overall, Shadow Legacy proved to be a wonderful introduction into this magical world for newbies.  It is also a great way for fans of this world to catch up with their favourite characters. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

This novella was fun to read and made me realize how much I missed The Iron Fey series! I liked how this book was from Kieran's POV because I got to see how he's coping with the aftermath of the last series. This book mainly focuses on fixing a prank gone wrong by Puck before Ethan and Kenzie's wedding. I enjoyed reading about my favourite characters again and was interested to see what the potential threat would be in the newest series.

It’s been so long since I read Call of the Forgotten series so I’m a bit confused but happy to have the partial recap. I hope this actually helps when I start The Iron Raven

I'm very glad I read this before starting the Evenfall series. Reminded me of who everyone was from the previous series, because it's been about a year since I finished Iron Fey/Iron Warrior. I can't wait to see the next mischief Grimalkin and Puck get up to after crashing Ethan's wedding. Can't help but think that this is going to play a new love interest to Kierran.

It was so fun going back to this world! I have always had a soft spot for Keirran so this novella from his POV was fun and it definitely sets up what is to come in the new series. Loved checking in with old friends again and this was a quick and fun read.

Julie Kagawa returns to the world of The Iron Fey with a brand new series starting in February. Until then you begin the journey with Shadow's Legacy in which we see Keirran getting ready to attend a very special wedding. But what's a wedding without a little chaos?

Kierran has been adjusting to his new role as the King of the Forgotten. He knows he still has a lot to make up for due to his actions. He betrayed his friends and all of Faery trying to do what he thought was right for the Forgotten Queen, but they were not of like mind anymore and he killed her. But not everyone forgets, though his friends Ethan and Kenzie have already forgiven him.

It was meant to be a special day for Ethan and Kenzie as they were about to get married when Puck's little wedding gift got a bit out of hand. Trying to help his friends out and save the wedding from a disaster, Kierran finds himself staring down a new threat, one named Nyx who is looking for the Forgotten Queen.

It's been five years since I read the end of Ethan's trilogy and there have been many books since then. I can't remember everything but I do remember Kierran not being exactly what he thought he was. This was sort of a nice redeeming story for Kierran, though it does seem he still has a lot more to do to earn everyone's forgiveness back.

I was a bit baffled that this story was starring Kierran, since the next book stars Puck. Thankfully, that's my next read, so answers ahoy! My guess is that Kierran and Puck may be crossing paths again. It will definitely be something to see!

I've always found Julie's novellas to be fun little reads between books. They prove to be insightful as well to what's to come for the characters. This one presents a bit of a pickle though since there looks like a change in heroes, but I'm eager to find out what will happen! Plus, any Julie Kagawa read is a good idea anyway!

Keirran’s life as King of the Forgotten seems lonely more often than not, and though he wouldn’t say anything about it, the boy is still in a world of pain about Annwyl’s death. Let’s hope his new distractions (tracking down the monster of the Between with Nyx the assassin) proves beneficial for him. I’m rooting for his happiness in this new Iron Fey Series.

I’m not sure what to make of Nyx. She sure switched allegiance very quickly. I hope she doesn’t stab Keirran in the back while he least expects it.

Favorite Quote(s):
“Man, I hate the cold. Not that I’m complaining, but maybe we could speed this up a little, prince? I have ice in places I’d rather not.”

“I have a gremlin in my dressing room,” she said “King Oberon of the Seelie Court is sitting in the front pew of the church. Almost half of the congregation is fey. If we wanted a normal wedding, Ethan, we would’ve eloped.”

Review:

I really liked this novella. I enjoyed seeing a bit more of Kierran and the Between. I loved that it was about Ethan and Kenzie’s wedding. I laughed so much and I wasn't surprised that Puck caused some problems. I thought the stuff with the doves was hilarious, and how Kenzie was not shocked. Things couldn't be normal for one day as they had invited the fey to the wedding. I thought Nyx was interesting and I hope we get more of her and learn more. I loved the banter throughout with many of the characters. I also liked how Ash and Meghan still love Kierran and were trying to include him and show him he’s still loved and forgiven, to an extent. I loved that it set up things for the next book but also gave a bit more for other characters. I thought this was a fun novella and can't wait to read the next book and maybe learn more about the things it seemed to be setting up.

“Rise, Nyx of the Forgotten,” I told the faery before me. “You’ve sworn yourself to me, so let us start proving that loyalty. We’re going to hunt down this monster, together.”

3 stars because we did not get enough ethankenzie moments and the story ended up being from kierran's perspective entirely, whose existence literally pisses me off sometimes.

“You look beautiful, by the way.”

She smiled and gave him a quick kiss on the mouth. “Save it for the honeymoon, tough guy. I’ll see you at the altar. Puck...” She turned a rather scary smile on the Great Prankster. “If my wedding day explodes or is canceled because of faery magic, I will personally have Grimalkin track down the meanest, nastiest witch in all the Nevernever to put twelve lifetimes of curses on you. So, if you don’t want donkey ears or a camel hump for the rest of the millennium, behave.”

I feel so sorry for Keirran. I really hope he gets his happy ending soon. Reading from his pov makes you realize what a good heart he actually has. I really liked this short story. Kenzie and Ethan are adorable and of course Puck had to have his turn on the wedding. Read this before you start reading The Iron Raven.

Was a good refresher on some of what happened in previous books. Since it's been years since I've read them I was a bit lost at first. But, it's a great lead up to the upcoming Iron Raven! I adore Puck and can't wait for next months release!

Fun introduction to the new series and loved revisiting some of our old faves! However, it's been a while since I've read this series and I forgot how juvenile the writing is so I couldn't give it more than 2.5 stars unfortunately ://

This would have made more sense if I hadn’t put it off until after I read the Evenfall trilogy. I still enjoyed it because I love these characters, especially Nyx. But yeah, it would have been better before.
