This short story, included in some editions of Switched, book one in the Trylle series, is an alternative perspective on events that take place in chapters six and twenty-two of this first book. As such it may contain spoilers.

(This is more like fangirling and not really a review. lol)
This short story is a bonus feature from Switched. At first I thought it won't be necessary to read this, but when I started Torn, which is the second book of the series, I discovered that there's a new character being introduced and his name is Loki (who is mainly featured in this short story) so I decided to read his story because man... he's undeniably hot and he's cocky (so Daemon Black material!) so why not?
Loki is a Vittra, someone who is an enemy of the Trylle. At first I thought he's just an ordinary Vittra but then I found out that he is in fact, a Vittra Prince and that's something. I love royal characters so definitely I knew he's going to be my next favorite character (after Dorian, Nikolai Lantsov, Cal, Maven, Derek Novak, etc.) :D
I found his character really intriguing. He possesses both good and bad side-- which really doesn't fail to pick my interest. Now I'm more excited to read the next books because of him. I want to discover more of this character. :)
The Vittra Attacks is a short little read giving a look at things from the other side. Were it not for the fact this story was included in the combined edition of the trilogy I own, I doubt I would have read this story. In truth, I was disappointed with Switched – and as I’m not the biggest lover of short stories anyway, there was very little leaving me willing to read this.
Still, as it was a short read and it was included between the pages of books one and two in the combined edition, I decided to say ‘screw it’ and read it.
Although this was not a terrible read – it’s more of a one-point-five-star read, but I could not bring myself to round it up as I gave Switched a two-star rating – it did not add as much as I would have liked. When it comes to stories being told from a different perspective, especially when the perspective is that of the bad guy, I really like to be invested in the world. I like for a much bigger picture to open up, to get to see much more.
Sure, I got a quick look at the other side – but it was not enough. It was barely a taste – it let us see without developing things. I hope things develop more later in the series, as potential has been opened up. However, as an introduction to the other side – an introduction where we’re thrown in deep – this one did not do much.
If you’re a fan of the series, I’m sure you’ll have fun with this extra. If, like myself, Switched did not win you over, then I doubt The Vittra Attacks will do much for you.
A fun little story to give you an understanding of what the Vittra really is. I wouldn't recommend reading it without having read Switched, as it would spoil a major part of the book. Overall it just gives a bit of insight and an idea of what is to come in the next book, Torn.
This is a short story that must be read between the first two books, here we get to know a new character (Loki) that is a Vittra and see from his POV the attacks and attempts to capture Wendy.
I know already (from reading the second book blurb) that he will be important in next book and i'm glad that i get the opportunity to know him and his motivations before he appears in the next book. I like him and i'm so curious to know why the hell he is a vittra and also i'm dying to know why the queen wants Wendy so much.
I gave 3 out of 5 * to this novella, i like it and it is important for the next book in my opinion but i could not rate it more because it is so small. I will be reading the next books in this month.
In the interest of full disclosure, I won this as a Goodreads Giveaway with the expectation that I would give an honest review.
It's hard to say much about this short story, because it is so short. I would say it gave me more questions than it did answers. It does come at you from a different perspective and I think that will help fill in some gaps over the course of the trilogy. I will say that I am very excited to start reading the second book of the trilogy. I think it's going to be a wild ride folks!
This was fine… I don’t actually have much to say about this one. It was short, so there is that. Loki is lovable character as always. I am not sure if I would like to read this before “Torn” since it shows us the… “Vittra stuff” that we slowly discover in “Torn”. I definitely could have lived without reading this, but it was nice enough.
P.S. I liked the detail about Loki singing his mother’s lullaby to his son – after what we learned about Vittra lullabies in “Vittra attacks” XD
This is a short story set in Loki's POV from book 1. I read this when I was already 200+ pages into book 2, so I've already read of Loki and who he is, but this short story gives insight into his thinking , why he did what he did in the beginning of book 2, and the horrible way Oren rules the Vittra and the suffering of Loki, along with the fear the Vittra have as a whole of their king.
Loved reading this story again, I just love these characters, and I loved getting this glimpse into the Vittra side of things before Torn!
*First read August 9th, 2012* Really enjoyed getting to meet Loki, he's an interesting character, and I can't wait to learn more about him and the other Vittra!
Felt like this short was a tad pointless, but I saw from other reviews that Loki, the main character comes into play in Torn, so I figured I give it a shot. And while he was pretty hilarious, the story itself didn't have much value.
So, this short story actually confused the hell out of me, cuz it feels like you've been dropped in something you have no knowledge of. I think it should have come later after the character was introduced and it would have made more sense.
I’m glad I read this bonus story at the end of Switched. It really added depth to the Vittra characters, which was really beneficial when reading Torn.
Interesting. It just reiterates how much the Vittra need Wendy, but it was good to get the background on the king. I’m wondering how that’ll play out in the next book.
Interesting short story, but just leaves me with even more questions. Why is Wendy so important to the Vittra? What is Loki's relationship to the King and Queen? What will happen next?
