“Jesus, Leanne. Take a day off!” She had me so stressed because she just doesn’t quit. But that’s what you want from a thriller and Rae Shawn gave us lots of thrills and a touch of steam. It took me a while to warm up to Tyler and I won’t spoil anything here but the reason why was an “Awwwww! Poor guy!” moment I really appreciated. There are twists and turns and you will definitely want to shake Leanne several times because she’s a kick-down-the-door-and-figure-it-out-later kind of investigator but that’s also why you’ll be on the edge of your seat and looking forward to her next adventure. This does end with a cliffhanger so be prepared to bite your fingernails for another installment! I really enjoyed this action-packed mystery from Rae Shawn and look forward to reading more from her in the future!

The plot was great albeit with some very tough moments to get through emotionally. I appreciated that LeAnne refused to give up or back down and that the plot progressed smoothly. Some plot twists I was t expecting, which was nice and added to the “what the hell?” feeling of the storyline.

I appreciated that LeAnne wasn’t a damsel in distress and that Tyler didn’t act like she was either. Their relationship was fun to watch throughout the story, but I was a little saddened they only had the one night together before the bad stuff happened. Clever way to do it, though. I enjoyed most of the sexual tension between LeAnne and Tyler, though some parts seemed a little drawn out. I wasn’t bothered by it because I enjoyed the different ways Tyler and LeAnne teased each other.

I don’t normally like cliffhangers like this either, but this book was well-suited for it. I like that there was hope left for a happily ever after but also a realistic understanding that LeAnne couldn’t just up and move forward from her experiences at the drop of a hat. If there’s a next book I would read it because I want to be part of LeAnne’s continued journey through this until she gets back to a safe space.

Warning: there is mention of rape and sexual assault.

Badass lady detective? Check.
Flirty, hot neighbor? Check.
Fake dating trope? Triple check.
Count me in.

The story follows LeAnne Cane, an ex-LAPD turned Private Eye. She's a very strong lead character who takes it from nobody and does whatever she needs to do to solve her cases, & Tyler, LeAnne's neighbor and another detective who gets brought in on a case her father has taken on and needs help with. The two have quite a lot of heat between them and their chemistry is strong. They work well together and play well together ;)

This book started off a bit slow, really letting you get a feel for the MCs and their dynamic, which I loved. I'm such a sucker for that whole denying the attraction thing in books.

The writing did seem rushed in some parts and there are a few times when the time jumps aren't made super clear, but it wasn't anything awful enough to stop me from blowing through the entire novel in a couple of sittings. The story is carried well by the characters and the high stakes premise of the plot.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and have high hopes for the next installment since this ends on a cliffhanger!

Content warning: The plot deals with some heavy topics, including sex trafficking. There are some scenes depicting sexual assault and women being kept drugged.

This book was ok. The main character - LeAnne Cane is a very strong female lead, and the story has an interesting premise. This book has a lot of potential.  It could have used another edit - there are spelling mistakes and it jumps around with no explanations. To the point where you wonder if somehow you mistakenly skipped pages or missed something. For example, LeAnne goes from being a detective with the LAPD to working with her Dad with zero lead up to this change. It just happens. This jump definitely should have explained in some detail since the case she is working on as a PI with her Dad and Tyler (secondary character) ends up being most of the story.  There is also a random switch in the narration of two chapters, to Tyler. This isn't done throughout at all and seems oddly placed. While it was nice to hear from someone other than the main character, but the flow was off. And the ending - abrupt is the best word to describe it. It definitely left me feeling unsatisfied and disappointed.

This book is about a PI working with her father and attractive neighbor to take down a human trafficking ring. While the characters and the premise of the book are quite good, there were parts that seemed quite unrealistic. I also thought there were some awkward and sudden transitions in the book (especially the narration change without any warning), as well as some of the dialogue being a bit confusing (not always clear who is saying what). I feel like this book could have used another final edit.

That being said, the main characters are well developed and very interesting. Cane is fierce, strong, and complex. She is determined to get to the bottom of this case. It's also great to see POC as the main characters in books, especially a strong WOC kicking ass. Overall, I enjoyed the book and feel like the authors next works will be even better.

I received a copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only and asked to give a review.

I liked the story and the characters. LeAnne and Tyler are both strong characters that have an obvious chemistry from the beginning of the book. Lee quits her job as a police officer to work with her father as a PI so she can work on the disappearances of a number of women and human trafficking - her neighbour, Tyler, ends up working at the agency as well, much to her surprise. Overall I liked the story and the interaction of the two main characters. I also like Lee's friends and her Dad.
I think that someone should have read through the book again before putting it out for reading as there are a number of spelling mistakes, questionable grammar and areas where the story jumps to another area making you go back and check what you just read like there was something missing in-between.
Overall I enjoyed the book but it need some more editing to polish it off.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Rae Shawn through Voratious readers Only to read and write an honest review. This book will appeal to people who enjoy reading about a lot of sexual tension between the two main characters.
Personally this is not the style of writing that I enjoy.
The plot is good and there is plenty of action happening all through the book. It reminds me somewhat of a James Bond movie.
The ending is sudden and leaves the reader in mid-air , and wanting to read the next book in the series. A good read if you enjoy this type of Genre.

Reading this book is great honestly. The main character is a smart ass, bad ass, female who is taking no prisoners and I love how relatable she is when dealing with friends and family. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll leave it with this: I’m definitely looking forward to solving another case with detective LeAnne Cane.

I received from voracious readers only. And this is why I signed up. Finding books like this, that doesn't get the recognition they deserve. Tyler and Lee have such strong chemistry. And the story line was very interesting, makes me wonder where they are going to go next. Lee is so strong willed and stubborn. This has major violence, and some sex abuse. Overall, kept me on my toes!

I received a copy of this book through Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately, I could not get interested in this book because the story did not flow. The book was about a female detective who without any explanation I could find goes to work with her Dad and neighbor as a private detective looking for missing women. Not a book I can recommend.

Great read about a current problem - human trafficking. The story was exciting and suspenseful. The characters captivated you from the beginning and took you on an emotional roller coaster ride until the end when you hoped justice would prevail. I look forward to reading more 'Cane' books by this author and continuing the ride with the characters.

This story was a rollercoaster of a ride. It was slow at first, but once it took off, it was breakneck all the way. I liked it. It was a book with surprises along the way.

Character development in this book was good, story progressed naturally. I was very pleased it wasn't the typical love story intertwined with drama. The only frustrating part was the ending. Won't give any spoilers but.......there better be more!

I truly enjoyed the up and down suspense in this book. The romance mixed in the plot between the main characters LeAnne an Tyler. This is a good read. Holds your interest. Was hard to put down.
I won't spoil it for others.
I wholeheartedly suggest picking this one up.
