DDale writes stories about lesbians over 60 who are still raising hell and living out loud. She imagines this will not win her a spot on The New York Times Best Seller List. In past lives she’s been a copywriter, graphic designer, musician, karate student, and artist. She’s survived 12 years of Catholic school and an Italian grandmother. If there’s a heaven, she has certainly prequalified. Coming out in the mid-70s molded her into a lifelong lesbian feminist with a penchant for flannel shirts and womyn’s music. These days she makes her home on ten lovely acres nestled in the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania that she and her wife share with two rotten cats, a small flock of spoiled hens, and a herd of white-tailed deer hell-bent on devouring the landscaping. When she’s not writing she gets into trouble by working on projects better suited to a much younger version of herself. She loves good books, good coffee, and watching the fireflies on warm summer nights.
A sick and twisted partner who put one of the main's through unimaginable things and within seconds she becomes her obsession. Things get down pretty quickly. Full Circle is a great story with MC's over 60 and a second chance at love. I loved every second of it. I sincerely hope DDale continues to write about older women.
The lead characters in this romance are mature women both weighed down by current personal circumstances. Fate is a fickle thing and 40 years after their disastrous last meeting, martial arts and an annual all female Gathering brings them face to face once more. Can anything come from it? Emily struggles to keep a roof over her head. The little farm that was so successful (when her wife Joann was alive) is now joyless and a burden with bills piling up. Qualified in massage therapy and acupuncture, she is trying to increase her clientele base. An invitation to participate at the Gathering arrives in the mail and let's face it, she needs the money. Deb has done very well with her sports therapy clinic and related books and treatments. With retirement in her sights, she intends to change the clinic into an employee share entity. Additionally, she wants to step back from her successful Dojo turning it over to her young protege Keisha. Jaded by pressures in her personal life, Deb longs to get away and relax at the annual Gathering - far from the tentacles of Moira and her bleeping boat. If only Deb can make the move permanent. Judge Moira wants to control all aspects of Deb's life including her clinic - after all she controls everything and everyone around her including where, with whom and when she has sex. Deb and Emily had each found comfort and character building in different martial arts and with that common ground, eventually the past is discussed and forgiveness given after they meet at the Gathering. Both recognize the possibility of a future together and the peace and love that brings but not so fast........dreams can be dispelled quickly. This plot has romance, drugs, blackmail and revenge with an very able supporting cast particularly Keisha, Annie and the soul sucking Moira. Watch out, a woman scorned can prove dangerous. I read quickly hoping for retribution and a HEA. Another 5 star book from the author that I easily recommend and on my re-read shelf. I look forward to future books from Ms. Dale.
I really wanted to like this more than I did. Seeing more mature women in their 60's rekindling and finding love and a zest for life again, was promising. But the drama was far too cringey and melodramatic for me.
It came off very much like a Hallmark or a Lifetime movie. The love they had was insta, complete with U-Haul. There was a maniacal villain who might as well be twirling a moustache and laughing psychotically. It just all came across as lame.
I am so happy to read a story about obsession, romance, intrigue and lesbians of retirement age. This was a well written tale that held my attention from the first page to the last, well, all except that long bit of poetry that should have been titled, “It Was So Much More than Sex.” But I digress...this is a bit of rich story telling, with believable characters and a villain so evil you just know that even death might be afraid of her. And yes, just to reassure any younger readers, lesbians over 60 still have really, really good sex.
This was a remarkable book. It brought to mind, 'if you love something set it free, if it comes back it is yours, if it does not, it never was'. But in this case, 'if you love someone, set them free. If they come back, it was meant to be, if they don't, it was never to be. With Deb and Em, it was certainly meant to be. Although many years had passed, and they had aged, before they were reunited again, the age meant nothing. It was the love they shared that kept the bond strong and lasting. Reading this book about older lesbians certainly made me realize that age is not at all a significant factor when it comes to love. It was a story filled with many attributes, all of which made it that much more special and enjoyable to read. I would certainly recommend this book, not just to older lesbians, but women of all ages. Thanks DDale for sharing your talent.
What an interesting and involving book this is, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters. This really is one that you can't put down, there's a ghastly manipulative partner who really caused me anxiety most of the way, how was a the MC going to deal with her, the lovely friends and the long lost love, what more could you want. I enjoyed fact that the main characters are older as I am but still sexy and vital, not sent out to pasture. I recommend this one and looking at what others I can read.
These two main characters face a lot of struggles. It is a small miracle that they find their way to each other after meeting years earlier. There are always struggles in any relationship but sometimes one brings the difficulty upon one’s self.
This is a powerful cautionary tale about a woman who lets herself be drawn into a relationship with a ruthless, vindictive abuser. The abuser is wealthy and powerful, and brutally manipulative and selfish. When the protagonist falls in love with a much more deserving woman and tries to escape from her relationship with the abuser, all hell breaks loose.
Painful to read but very engaging, and a story that I, unfortunately, could relate to in many ways. Still, I've found it to be healing to be reminded that I'm not alone in experiencing and surviving brutally abusing relationships.
I highly recommend this book... as long as you've got a strong stomach.
Very good story. Once I got into the story I could not put it down. The characters were all incredible and the story line just sucked in in and I could not wait to see what came next. Looking forward to reading another book by you.
