Despite its very grave and dark themes the story is incredible and remains rather light and utterly enjoyable. The fact that Hwaja never gets older gives the story a mix of mystery and the supernatural. There are questions to be answer about the missing children and the killer but Hwaja is the one with more questions to the answers. She finally gets older the same as Ryu our "hero"and lived happily ever after... Hwaja herself said "I didn't like the ending so I changed it".

Recomiendo.

Hwaja by Hong Jac-ga was a dark and unsettling read with a unique and expressive art style. I felt that the story focused on some interesting themes, including abuse and addiction, tied with some supernatural elements.

It was interesting to see the dark twists that the protagonist, Ryu, faced upon encountering the mysterious Hwaja, as the reader is left wondering whether he's becoming corrupted by what's happening to him, turning him into the people he hates. As her story unravels, the realization of what is happening to Hwaja is sickening-particularly because so many townsfolk are complicit in her abuse, all for their self-gratification. It touches on some very ugly aspects of human nature in a nuanced way as the mystery of Hwaja is slowly revealed. It shows how far some people will go to maintain selfish desires, and also how groups of people acting immorally can reinforce one another.

The ending is a bit ambiguous, based on speculation, but it was also a hopeful end. All in all, I would recommend this story to those interested in a dark and psychological read.

I did enjoy this story and I really liked that we got to grow up with Ryu, although I wish we could of learnt more about Hwaja, (“how she got there”, “what happened to her parents” etc) but I did like the ending.
I read this online, and feel that it would of been a much better reading experience if I had of had a physical copy of this to read from 📔 I definitely see a re-read of this physically, coming! 💕

"Did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen" "Help she's still in the haunted house, right when she felt the moment stop, glass shattered on a white cloth everybody moved on, she stayed there. "
