いやいやえん―童話 [Iya iya en]

   主人公しげるが通う保育園のお話が5話収められている。短いお話も長いお話もあり、好きなものから読める。また、絵も多いため、簡単に読み進めることができる。

 「ちゅーりっぷほいくえん」は、しげるの保育園のことを簡単に紹介している、短いお話。「くじらとり」は、しげると保育園のお友だちが、くじらとりにでかけたお話。どこに行ったのかはないしょ。「ちこちゃん」は、しげるとちこちゃんが、保育園で机の上にのるお話。新しい子が保育園に来る「やまのこぐちゃん」は、ちょっどびっくり！　新しく来たやまのこぐちゃんは、ほんもののこぐま！　しげるはなかよくなれるかな？　「おおかみ」は、おおかみがお昼寝しているところにしげるが来て…おおかみが、子どもを食べるのが大好きだって、知ってるよね？　「山のぼり」は、保育園のみんなで山のぼりにいって、まいごになったしげるが、とんでもないものにあっちゃうお話。『いやいやえん』は、しげるが「いやいやえん」っていうヘンな保育園につれてかれちゃうお話。

   ひらがなが多くて、漢字にはすべて「ふりがな」がふってあり、小学校低学年くらいから1人で読める、子どもたちに人気の童話。（つちだみき）

I just finished reading this to the kids... the book's age shows, and it has definitely aged poorly. Not recommended as a children's story, although for adults it might be an interesting cultural artifact.

The book comprises a series of vignettes about a relatively naughty boy, Shigeru, and the things that happen in his slightly-fantastical preschool. The content leans toward the low-key, the silly, and the didactic, but the effect (from my point of view) is often blunted by a sort of aimlessness and by a number of questionable cultural assumptions.

For example, in one vignette, all of the kids leave the school and go to a series of nearby mountains to pick and eat fruit... without any adult chaperones. Shigeru runs ahead, eats two fruits instead of one at each mountain, and then wanders into the one mountain that's a creepy dark forest instead of an orchard. The big didactic punch comes when he gets stuck in some tree branches because all the extra fruit he ate has made him too fat to get through...?!?

Of all the things I would want to warn a child against doing while outside alone near a dark forest, "Make sure not to eat two apples" isn't super high on the list. On the other hand, while I'm not expecting every didactic children's tale to hit Struwwelpeter levels of horror, the description could have leaned more heavily into the real-world life-threatening dangers of small children wandering off alone into dark forests. Just to add to the incoherence, Shigeru is partially saved by an oni who is constantly eating various fruits out of his vast array of pockets, but the main solution to the problem is just "wait a few minutes until your tummy shrinks." None of this is actually how the human body works.

That sort of confusion is bad enough, but some of the values shown are actively painful. In one story Shigeru does a hypocrisy, and part of his (magical?) punishment is that he's compelled to wear a dress like a girl. I'll be honest; I don't have a lot of use for a story that, while it seems to have good intent, primarily teaches you to think that girl's things are inferior and that you should avoid eating fruit.

The ending is very abrupt.

ちいさいももちゃんとかおしいれの冒険をおもいだす雰囲気だなぁと読み始める。
保育園に通うしげるが主人公のはなしが5話収録
4歳から6歳くらいが対象だが大人も読み聞かせして楽しいストーリー

どこまでが現実でどこまでがファンタジーなのか
そんなこと考えるのは野暮なのか笑
クマのプーさんやかいじゅうたちのいるところが好きだったらあたりだと思う。

なんだかくじらぐもみたいなのでてきたり、突然パディントンみたいなやつでてきたり、リアル赤ずきんちゃんみたいな話になったり、この世界独特の言葉遣いとか遊び心あふれててちっとも平坦でないのが子供の好奇心を刺激しそう。
だいぶ摩訶不思議な荒療治とか因果応報な展開で人生をまなぶしげる。
がんばれ！
不思議ながらも道徳を学べる良い本。

เป็นเรื่องแฟนตาซีของเด็กอนุบาล โดยมีตัวดำเนินเรื่องคือ เด็กชายชิเงรุ เรื่องแฟนตาซีก็อย่างเช่น เด็กๆ ตอบล็อกไม้เป็นเรือแล้วสามารถออกทะเลไปจับปลาวาฬได้ หรือมีคุณหมีมาเรียนหนังสือ บางตอนเหมือนจะมีแง่คิด แต่บางตอนก็ไม่มี ถ้าเด็กอ่านคงชอบมั้ง เะราะเป็นหนังสือขายดียาวนาน แต่เราแก่แล้วอ่านแล้วไม่อินแฮะ
