Exposing the Spiritual Roots of Disease: Powerful Answers to Your Questions About Healing and Disease Prevention

Rate this book

A Thoroughly Biblical and Compelling Case for Healing from the Best-Selling Author of A More Excellent Way

Over thirty years ago, Dr. Henry Wright experienced major success in praying for people to be healed from disease. But suddenly the healing stopped. He began asking God why people weren’t being healed. Through a pursuit of God’s Word and truth, he began a lifelong journey of learning the spiritual roots of disease and blockages to healing. In this journey, he discovered that about 80 percent of all disease has a spiritual root issue and is a direct result of a breakdown in our relationship with God, ourselves, or others.

Dr. Wright began teaching the biblical principles and truths he discovered and found great success in people’s healing and recovery. He has helped tens of thousands to experience wholeness in their lives.

Every human being is a spirit with a soul living in a body. Therefore, this is not just about our physical health, although it greatly impacts our bodily well-being. It is about our identity in God and the freedom He desires to give us, extending from our spirits to our souls and bodies.

In this book, Dr. Wright presents a thoroughly biblical and compelling case for healing. If you think you’ve read all you need to know about healing, it’s time to take another look! The author clearly shows that disease is not a random occurrence and that science and medicine have their limitations in dealing with the spiritual roots of illnesses that inflict millions. We need healing for spirit, soul, and body. If you have recently been diagnosed with an illness or have been struggling with your health for years, there is hope and healing ahead.

“I am so thankful about these physical healings. However, I’m even more thankful for the inner peace and faith that I have been experiencing. [They are] beyond description.” —Sue from Maryland (healed of back pain, rheumatism, and high cholesterol) “His perfect will is that we don’t get sick. But once we’re sick, the provision has been made for healing. We just need to line up with the Word of God and be transparent, and everything takes care of the rest.” —Claudio (he and his wife healed of infertility; their newborn son healed of serious health issues)

Henry W. Wright is the president and founder of Be in Health Global. He was exposed to the power of spiritual healing at an early age when his mother was miraculously cured of terminal cancer and a fatal tumor that was wrapped around her jugular vein. Today, Wright is committed to the belief that human problems are fundamentally spiritual, with associated physical and psychological manifestations. With his pre-med background and insights into the medical as well as the spiritual aspects of disease, he brings a fresh perspective to the process of ministering to the sick. He has presented seminars worldwide and across broad denominational lines for a number of years and is a frequent guest on many well-known television and radio programs.

Not only is the BEST book on healing I have ever read, I want to send it to every person I know! The truth revealed to me in this book has changed my life- I have been battling asthma and food allergies for decades and I finally feel like I know the spiritual roots 😭 fear of abandonment (asthma) and the spirirt of fear (food allergies) I am going to work on the steps outlined in this book and wait expectantly for my healing 🙌🏻

A lovely friend gave me this book, and I read it for that reason. I will start by saying that I believe Henry Wright was well-intentioned; however, this book is full of unsubstantiated claims, and gives an overly simplistic basis for disease. I am glad that his ministry has helped so many people, but what he says here has no value for those who walk close to the Lord, in a manner pleasing to Him, and are still sick.

There are a couple of worthwhile things in the book. Firstly, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, and the like (unrepentant sin) can lead to physical illness. This mind-body (or spirit-body) connection is fairly well established. Also, I appreciate his repetition of our need to stay firmly rooted in God’s word, and in God’s love.

However, referring to himself as “Dr.” was frustrating for me, knowing that he received his “doctorate” from a unaccredited online ministry school. It’s as if he was trying to lend credibility to himself that he doesn’t deserve. Also, claiming over and over again that 80% of all illness has spiritual roots does not make it true. It’s a ludicrous assertion that cannot possibly be substantiated.

His chapter on mental illness made me angry. Having grown up with a mentally ill sister, I can attest to the damage that is done when statements are made claiming that the illness is actually demon possession, or rooted in unrepentant sin, or a lack of submission to the Lord. It is irresponsible to put those ideas out there in writing.

Lastly, it is not always God’s priority to heal us. When the apostle Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh to be removed, it was not God’s priority to heal him. It was His priority to teach Paul about the sufficiency of His grace, and for Paul to learn to rely on God‘s power over his own, when he himself was weak. I ended up concluding that Henry Wright did not have a good theology of suffering, because the fact is that suffering exists, that God‘s grace is enough, and not every Christian who is sick will be healed.

The one positive thing I will take away from this book is a desire to do an in-depth, devotional study of psalm 139, a scripture he referenced frequently.

Powerful

This book is so powerful, and I feel like it is on point with the root causes of diseases. I learned so much about myself and how to battle my diseases. Throughout the read, I’ve shared little nuggets from this book with friends and family with strong encouragements to give it a try! I’m so happy I read it and excited about my journey to being healed!

I read this at the request of a religious family member. If you are not already religious or open to becoming a servant to the Christian god, then I recommend not bothering to read this book. It is for the believers who think god will heal them.
I had a hard time making it through these pages. Thankfully, it’s short. If I had to read one more page of the author calling god “Sir”, I was going to throw it in the forest for another, more gullible soul to find. Or for someone to use it as toilet paper.
My personal take on Christianity, particularly the way it is portrayed here: I feel an innate adverse reaction to the thought that there is one, all-powerful masculine entity ruling over us and we must obey him without question or else we will suffer. Aversion flowed through my veins as I read this.
If I have any spiritual inclinations, it’s a comfort at the thought of feminine energies that wish to help our souls reach a state of peace and harmony.
Why must we obey one masculine energy? There is no reasoning—it’s just how it is, so sayeth this book. I cannot help but question it. I am not the type to just accept, especially something as gargantuan as that.
“I love you, but you will suffer if you do not obey my commands”. Is that not conditional love? If this god does exist, I want to tell him to keep his conditional love.
“Religion is a smile on a dog” is my current philosophy.

Excellent book. I already had an idea about the spiritual nature of disease and how the scientific community tends to ignore metaphysics and spirit as something that exist. Even more mind-blowing is how the medical community fails to have an understanding of cause or cure for diseases like fibromyalgia, MS, cancer, etc. Yet the current state of affairs is we’re supposed to follow them like gods. I have much appreciation for the author for this work. I definitely will seek out other books Dr. Wright has authored. This book has motivated me to further my studies on health and wellness. I am very grateful to have read this at this time as I continue to deepen my relationship with The Most High.

Also, I’d like to point out this book is heavily Christian-based. I don’t even identify with religion, however I think you can take away the lesson that if we continue to hold on to negative emotions: fear, resentment, bitterness, anger, etc. then energetically we are holding on to disease. The simple take-aways are detach yourself from the bondage of low-frequency emotions. Live/eat in moderation. Cleanse your spirit. Regardless of religion, if you believe in having a pure heart this book will speak to you.

I agreed with the author's foundational interpretation of scriptures on healing. But some of the underlying patterns the author identified seemed arbitrary to me. That doesn't mean they're not true I guess, but they seemed so far-fetched (like for instance the idea that a woman with a cancer in one breast indicates a contentious relationship with a woman in her family, and if she has a cancer in the other breast, it indicates a contentious relationship with a woman outside her family.) What? I get the idea that "the body weeps tears the eyes cannot shed," but at least in my experience, where any ailment shows up, or which ailment shows up, is very individual and based upon susceptibilities. I guess I don't doubt the author's experience, but I'd need to see at least some mechanistic speculations on why certain emotional or spiritual issues would show up as a particular type of illness, and a lot more evidence that it was the case. But, the author was an evangelist, not a doctor, so convincing people of the correlations really wasn't the focus.

For many years, I've been dealing with health issues that seemed to worsen year after year. No one, not even myself, understood the cause for my sicknesses. I thought and was led to believe that I would just be sick for the rest of my life... people around me even telling me that I have to plan my life around my sickness. But I really did not want to live this way in pain and in anger. In search for an answer I came across this book. I never heard of this book before, nor did I know of Dr. Henry W. Wright. But I picked it up anyways and... wow. It is thanks to this book that I realized what the root cause of my illnesses were. For the first time in my life I became fully aware of God's love for me. I am so happy and hopeful than ever before - for someone like me who has been depressed for years, this feeling of happiness felt surreal. But it is real. I have hope in my healing journey, and I know now that I will be healed because of my heavenly Father who loves me.

This book (actually the much larger white-cover edition from which this one came) was my first introduction to, and pivotal on, my journey to a changed mind about what ill-health, disease and pain were all about ... and how God viewed these burdens of humanity. I'm now a firm believer in the "often overlooked spiritual root that must be identified and dealt with from a biblical perspective" in order to receive and KEEP healing and health in one's body. If you're at the outset of your journey in this, you've found a foundational teaching from which to launch and fly!

Phenomenal! It makes perfect sense to me that our bodies suffer when we are not right with God, ourselves, and others. So many things have been written off as personality types or their “thorn in the flesh” (not saying what a thorn might be—the Bible does not say), but we have a responsibility to renounce the lies of the enemy, renew our minds with Gods word, and take up the whole armor of God (2 Corinthians 10:5, Romans 12:2, Ephesians 6:10-20).

The Lord has been speaking to me about the freedom and power of confessing our sins and this book was a confirmation of that and was so encouraging and powerful! Highly recommend to anyone walking through sickness!

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

I was given this book as a gift since I have Lupus. I was open to the ideas in this book. After reading it though, I feel like this guy made up half of it. Claiming God spoke to him, claiming to have medical knowledge, and coming up with the most random percentages that aren’t proven and can’t be. It was very “my way is the right way.” He acts like a prophet. I wasn’t impressed

challenging-con fronting and liberating.

The most sensible book on healing and healthcare I’ve read.
Spirit, soul and body working together in conjunction with Triune God according to his word, the recipe for a great battle in which the plans of the evil one to kill us are completely destroyed by the love of God.

Finally something that makes sense as to why I have been dealing with the symptoms I have. I was doing all the “natural” and holistic remedies but symptoms of weight gain, acne, hypothyroidism weren’t budging. Thank you for this book!!

We are body, soul & spirit so why does the medical world only address the body? Our bodies are created by God so why not search Him for answers to our illness? This book opened my eyes as I contemplate my journey with my disease.

Very interesting read. Not sure how much merit it has, but I have always had extreme self-hatred. I have a thyroid condition. This book made the connection (correctly) and I was able to deal with my self-hatred which I had never known was wrong. Changed my life, maybe yours too.
