Character driven fiction isn't normally my preference, but I was impressed with Saint Bob Day. KC Wilson a stellar job of creating a easy to picture setting without being overly detailed. From a character standpoint it takes the first couple chapters to care about the characters but once you do your hooked.
Saint Bob Day is a short bit very enjoyable read that starts out simple but as you progress the stakes get higher as does you commitment to finishing it.
On e personal note I appreciate the North Florida setting, it's not too often I get to have the area I grew up be a part of a novel.

A Clever, Funny Mystery with a Charming Hero
Saint Bob Day by KC Wilson is a funny, well-written shaggy dog of a crime novel meets resort hi-jinx. Performing maintenance tasks around northern Florida’s Belle Rive Lodge and Club and spouting witticisms, Bob Day is a very likable protagonist. His past as a whistleblower to organized crime and his present in the witness protection program drive the novel as the mob figure he fingered has been released and has made his way to the club. Wilson draws his characters distinctively and the dialogue flows nicely. Wilson is a charming wordsmith, prone to clever lines that often manage to be playfully absurd in and out of context (“Live by the nail gun, die by the nail gun”).
Throughout the novel, right to its well-wrought conclusion, the tone and touch are light, making Saint Bob Day a fun read. Yet, the novel also features a deftly handled plot with an underbelly featuring the Dixie Mafia, money-laundering, and a history of sordid shenanigans – dark tales from the company that own the last and largest of the traveling carnivals. In other words, Wilson has rich novel here, from the singular humorous exchanges like the one featuring Mrs. Hanratty complaining about the pool temperature to the running gags of Bob’s nicknames to the reliably droll characters like Karl, Shania, and even the villainous Ari.
In other words, Saint Bob Day is a terrific, rewarding novel. I highly recommend it.

Sixty-one-year-old Bob Day is content with his low-profile life, working in the maintenance department of the Belle Rive Lodge and Club. His boss adores him and he gets along with most of his colleagues, although they know little about him apart from the fact that he likes to give everyone creative nicknames. The only employee who is not a fan is Constance Featherton, front desk shift manager, who claims Bob creeps her out.
In the first chapter, Bob saves three lives in one day, in three separate instances of being in the right place at the right time. But being hailed as a hero is the last thing Bob wants; he's in the witness protection program.
Sure enough, after the publicity, unwelcome acquaintances from Bob's past turn up at the Belle Rive Lodge, and two of them end up dead. One is a relative of Constance Featherton. Bob didn't kill these men, but he was in close enough proximity to be considered a person of interest. Hotel management is concerned. Bob attracts the attention of local law enforcement and the press. His handler from the U.S. Marshals Service gets involved.
Then a new guest arrives at the lodge—Aronoyad Wilgushku, a.k.a. Larry Wilhoite, the man Bob helped send to prison. The con artist has been released and has reinvented himself as business tycoon Lee J. Wilkes, and he inserts himself into the daily operation of the Belle Rive. Life for Bob has irreversibly changed.
Saint Bob Day is part caper, part deadpan humor. Bob is an endearing character with a fatalistic attitude.

A change-of-pace read

While my usual reading is history, historical fiction, biography, or politics, I needed something a bit different. Saint Bob Day certainly was that…The writing was clever and funny (in a twisted kind of way) and before I knew it, I was hooked.
Hearing my chuckling, my husband asked what I was reading, and when I told him, he said, “That sounds more like my kind of book than yours”, and it is. He’ll probably be reading it next and will write his own review.
I’ll keep K.C. Wilson in mind the next time I need a break from the news or my usual reading!

Interesting and different

A novel with murder, police, the press and the secret service that probably comes close to reality. People are not what they seem and you can everything right and still be wrong. Worth reading.

I know these folks !

This was a nice story that captures the essence of the service industry. The characters are so realistic, I feel I know these folks. Good story, good book, get this one today.

Definitely a guy's book

I was thinking it would be a simple mystery but it tried to evoke a kind of modern noir to it.

What fun

Saint Bob should have a sequel. I would love to hear what he does next. I shall be waiting with bated breath.
