Death By Field Trip: A FoxTrot Collection

Rate this book

It's indisputable at this point: FoxTrot is one of the most loved strips to ever hit the funny pages. Creator Bill Amend's FoxTrot collection, Death by Field Trip, adds to the strip's great legacy.

Death by Field Trip follows the humorous exploits of teenagers Peter and Paige and their imaginative little brother, Jason, as they balance the pressures of the modern world with the daily complexities and clashes of family life. Parents Roger and Andy round out the Fox family five and try to referee the sibling squabbling that never quite fully subsides.

This collection of newspaper cartoons features an extended sequence in which Jason uses the Dr. Seuss character, the Grinch, to complain that his mother's efforts to keep Christmas healthy and non-commercial (as Mrs. Grinch) are spoiling the holiday for him and others in the family. Andy's perfect mother comes to visit for Thanksgiving.

Foxtrot is usually pretty decent but they do not particularly stand the test of time like say Calvin and Hobbes does. If I rated it when I read it, it would be a solid 4 stars.

Even with the material dated, it's funny and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. So nice to get caught up on FoxTrot!

At first, they weren't that funny but as I went along, I was laughing out loud and some of them were hitting home :)

This collection of comics deals with Jason's take on the Grinch, a visit from Andy'' mom that puts undo pressure for a perfect thanksgiving, two of the hot topics from 1999 - Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Y2K, and a gender switch for one of the Foxtrot children.

And of course, enough nerd jokes to make a Mathematician laugh until the sum of the ingested liquids almost equals the sum of the liquids purged through a nasal passage.

I always hear 'Look out the gaffer, Mr. Frodo, sir!' in Sean Astin's voice.
