Recently translated into English, this is an inspirational story of a young woman's life in communist China, that would eventually lead her to the Catholic Faith. She gives her account of Catholics suffering in a Chinese labor camp during the communists' persecutions in the 1950's. Her story of suffering was recommended by Fr. Daniel Couture, SSPX, her spiritual director.
Incredible first hand account about the persecution of Catholics in China. It reminded me of the stories I’ve read about Jews or those sympathetic to the Jews being Imprisoned during the Holocaust... such as St. Maximilian Kolbe and Corrie Ten Boom. Or prisoners of war like Louis Zamperini. The torture that was inflicted on these souls was unthinkable. Infested living quarters, starvation, mental abuse, physical abuse, pitting prisoners against each other, propaganda etc...
This autobiography is about Rose Hu who was put into a Chinese Prison for over 20years because she refused to deny her Catholic Faith. She was a convert to the faith and her resilience, courage, and humility in the face of tortures (which would test anyone’s faith) are astounding! I hope I have an ounce of the trust in Divine Providence that she had. Her life story is proof that there are those living among us in this century who have imitated the type of courage which we read about from the lives of the saints of old!
What is most distressing is that the true Catholic Church is still underground in China. The “Catholic Church” which is visibly present in China is run by the communists. And the current pope— Francis— has allowed the dictators there to recommend who should be appointed bishops. If you are unaware of this... you are probably unaware of the abuses that happened to the Chinese Catholics in the 1940-1980s. This book is a must read to fully understand what happened in history and what is still happening under Communist control... and how the Novus Ordo church of today is allowing the powers that be to have co-magisterial influence. Many Chinese Catholics were martyrs for their Faith not even 50 years ago... it is sad that history has already forgotten their stories and has allowed the same crimes to continue which has forced the Faithful to practice the true Catholic Faith in secret.
