FOR CALEB: A Low Country Story

Rate this book
Disabled Navy Seal, Trey Dawson, has a chip on his shoulder. With no family living, his marriage over, and his three-year-old son dead because of a rotten piece of Chinese steel, Trey heads to his hometown in the Low Country of South Carolina.. The people around whom Trey lives are the Gullah, direct descendants of slaves freed in 1861. In isolation, they developed their own language, cooking, and still practice ancient West African traditions. Their community becomes the family Trey is absent. He and his hound, Cerberus, find a suspicious industrial plant deep in the piney woods. He solicits a Gullah woman root doctor and attorney named Penn Smith. Together, they learn that the plant is operated by Chinese Army regulars whose commandant keeps poisonous snakes for pets. Shunning government involvement, Penn and Trey launch a mission that could save the planet from mutual nuclear extinction.
