Social media expert Clarity Bloom is loving her job at a high-tech gadget corporation in Seattle—that is, until her BFF Janice turns up dead.
Much to the chagrin of her brother, Zen, a homicide detective, Clarity throws caution to the wind and jumps into the investigation with both feet.
Zen’s ultra-handsome detective partner, Hunter, encourages Clarity to learn self-defense—especially since she’s getting closer to discovering who the killer is. Using her social media sleuthing skills, she sets out to bait the murderer.
Is she clever enough to entrap the killer? Or will she end up as the catch of the day?
Martina Dalton writes fiction and lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family. Born and raised in Alaska, she can nimbly catch a fish, dress for rain, and knows what to do when encountering a grizzly bear. Now living in the Seattle area, she uses those same skills to navigate through rush-hour traffic.
A really good read but 'humorous' well I didn't think so. A plot of a serial killer who is finding his victims through a dating app. I must admit that I took a wild guess as to who the killer was at the start and was surprised to find out that i had nailed it. The characters are well rounded and cover all aspects of human nature from the cold to the easily duped. However Pumpkin the cat deserves a word as well - a cat of independent nature who doesn't take kindly to threats or abuse. When she finds out that her BFF and colleague has been murdered, she and two other colleagues start to investigate. (Against the wishes of her detective brother who's in charge of the case) From a murder it quickly becomes clear that there is a serial killer on the loose, a dating app is the source of victim and that her life at the company is being made untenable. Not only is she supposed to do her job, her murdered friend's job but now also the job of her immediate boss. Then there is the fake profile she has set up on the dating app and her disguise. Will they work in trapping the killer or will the killer set his own trap?
Loved this read. Has awesome characters and storyline. Clarity works in a big office, when her best friend gets murdered, her boss make her take over that position along with hers. Also she gets a new boss that make her do most of what he should be doing. Forgot to mention she also worked with her brother and his partner solve the murders. Lots going on to really keep you interested. A definite must read
This is the first time reading this author and this story grabbed me and would not let go! It was very well written and I really like the characters, had me guessing through the whole book. In the description it said that this was a humorous cozy mystery but I’m didn’t find very much humor but that’s OK I really enjoyed this book and I will be reading the next one!!
Disclaimer: my sister-in-law wrote this. Young professional woman investigates the death of her best friend while coping with bad bosses an overprotective brother and a new romantic interest. Good descriptions of Seattle and surrounding areas, interesting characters, and amusing situations.
Fun and intriguing mystery! Can’t wait to read the next one!
I thoroughly enjoyed the main character Clarity and the warm characters that surrounded and supported her while she jumped in and out of daily challenges until the killer was revealed! Will be starting the next book in the series soon!
Entertaining storyline about Clarity best friend who turns up murdered and found in a dumpster. A little romance, a little humor, intriguing characters and storyline that keeps you reading fast!
Not a fan. When will I learn a book with "humorous" or "zany" or "funny" in its descriptor just isn't? I found nothing "humorous"; a shallow, superficial main character; and a too-clear telegraph of the bad guy, but a motive that comes out of thin air.
This high quality humorous mystery is loaded with real life triumphs and struggles of interesting characters. Lots of common sense in this vibrant storytelling too. I'll definitely read books in this series!
Clarity is a woman that I love to read about. She’s smart, logical and good at solving mysteries. This was a fun read and I can tell I’m going to love this series!
Loved Killer Bait. Thought that it would be interesting as the story takes place in Seattle where I live. Just downloaded Killer Rapids, Book 2 in the Series.
I figured out the killer just not the why and when I did learn the why it was just ok. In my opinion this is definitely not a humorous mystery. It does have funny parts here and there but it's a darker mystery for the most part. My only real issue is with Clarity....she's clearly supposed to be an intelligent woman who is a graduate of Brown University but she is written as a total moron quite a lot throughout the book and it is really annoying (especially when dealing with Hunter). This all being said....I would give the author another chance because it appears that it will become a series in the near future. I just hope that she gives Clarity more brain power because she really needs it.
I really enjoyed this cozy from Martina Dalton. It's well-written with great characters. And, it has twists that keep you reading. If you're looking for a mystery that keeps you turning the pages, pick this one up. I'm looking forward to the next one!
