A 12-year veteran of the US Marine Corps, Gunnery Sergeant Gabriel Asbury had been the perfect soldier, until he discovered a traitor among his superiors. After a convoy attack and the loss of his legs, Gabe is only more determined to expose the devious bastard determined to keep him quiet.
Abducted by aliens and sent to what would have been a perfect world, Gabriel’s only concern is getting back home and destroying the man who ruined his life. The only thing standing in his way is the beautiful woman he’s meant to bond with and doesn’t dare touch, and a battalion of the worst criminals in the universe trying to destroy his new world.
Of all the wars and battles Gabe has fought in his life, it’s the war within himself that will cost him the most and determine whether or not he’ll forget the past and forge a new life. Or leave the only woman he’s ever loved and the planet that welcomed him to annihilation.
I have always enjoyed Mikayla's books, but was hesitant to read Gabriel, even though I liked Bria. I am glad I finally read this. It was great! Unique concept, likeable characters, great storyline. Bit overuse of commas, but overall two thumbs up. Hoping to get Dak and Cin's stories in the future.
Much like Gabriel is a different person than Bria, this story differs from hers.
Finding out your captain is corrupt is hard for a Marine. Being set up to be bombed, not knowing if your thumb drive of information will stop the deaths-after yours, is worse. But Gabe spends his recovery trying to rescue the Marines that will fall under that Captain's command. Little does he know that corrupt government officials are the least of his worries. They had aliens come kidnap him!
Spoilers ahead. The entire tone of this one was different. To the point it was almost like another author. Some of the same timeline inconsistencies appeared in this book. Similar plot holes. And most of the bonding being done was between Dar and Gabe, not Gabe and Sephina. And as much fun as Dar was, the premise of the nanites bonding to Gabe was determined by how much bonding the engineer, Sephina, did with her warrior, Gabe. *Why were almost all the warriors human rehomes? Did their society not produce soldier types at all? *Sending a bothersome soldier to an alien slave market is a little bit of an overkill after killing off his friend and therapist by gunfire right in front of a medical center in broad daylight. *The threats against Bart, his IAL, were mean spirited. And then poor Bart is basically ignored until the very end when he's pawned off. If the role of an IAL is to assist transition, and they're emotionally aware, why wasn't he programmed to suit Gabe better? Soldiers respond to orders and procedures. *Last book no mention of the Creation Laws, this book, inundated by the warning. And the creator of them. *How long is adolescence for beings that can live a millennium? And why was her mom still treating her like she was a 13yo human instead of 100yo? *Her dad was rescued from Earth 40yrs ago. So he wasn't rehomed and didn't meet his wife till then. But his daughter's 100? Are the years counted differently? *He's mentioned as having prosthetics when he's rescued. LAW upgrades them when he makes it to the station. Then they're never mentioned but 1 more time. But nothing about how the nanites respond compared to his human tissues. *The reaction of his armor depends on something else that the other warriors probably won't receive. So, how will it have the same response? Because part of the upgrade of the defense only comes from this 1 thing. *Does Dar not have a vacation time? Or report that someone else needs to patrol his area? Because otherwise he's in dereliction of duty, allowing untold numbers of lives to be ruined and snuffed out while he's playing with Gabe and Sephina. That line at the end, before the epilogue is concerning. *While I appreciate that the plot is not dependent on romance, it's a bonus not the carrier, I feel like Sephina and Gabe were barely friendly before he's calling her pet names. *Why the differences between males and females of Sephina's people? Drab dress for females and the men were described as peacocks. Yet warriors are the heroes of their society, and there don't seem to be many of them. We get almost nothing about their culture beyond labs, warriors and nanites.
I liked some parts of this a lot more than Bria. Some not as much. We've been introduced to 2 new worlds but we've been given scant details on them. We're also introduced to an immensely powerful being in this book, who's main goals include revenge and making sure AI doesn't run amuck. Yet, this being doesn't dismantle the consortium. They could, with their incredible abilities, and LAW's help. I thought I had questions after Bria. I have even more now.
I love, love, LOVED Gabriel! I wasn't aware Ms Lane had a new series , so I missed the first book. I have since gone and downloaded it, though! How intriguing it is to find a fallen human warrior rescued and sent to a new world where his wounds are healed, and he can carry on with his soul's mission to protect and serve! The love he finds is beautiful, but doesn't distract from the story of a man seeking justice. I just hope this couple is revisited in future books, as I would like to see just how special his son becomes, and the world needs a little more Cin!
I was a little disappointed at first when I realized that this book would take place in a different world. I really kind of what Jamie to end up on Empari with Bria. This book quickly changed my mind. It enjoyed the characters and really rooting for a book for Cin and Dar. I think they both need to find their mates.
I love all mikala lane books read the last series from book 1 and will carry on with this one loved it can't wait for the next one I hope dar and cin find someone as well loved those characters
I really loved this book, the strong characters, the slightly strange character, all of them. The interaction between the two main characters is nice that it starts slow. Love this book, love this series! Hoping Dar will be the next one in this series!
I absolutely love this series, I'm hooked can't get enough. I love how there are new stories with each book but stay on the same track. 10 out 10. Thank you.
I really enjoy Mikayla's books. This book was great. I can't wait for more books in this series. I know that I'll most likely be rereading it in a year or so.
