Award-winning author Christie Golden has written over thirty novels and several short stories in the fields of science fiction, fantasy and horror. She has over a million books in print.

2009 will see no fewer than three novels published. First out in late April will be a World of Warcraft novel, Athas: Rise of the Lich King. This is the first Warcraft novel to appear in hardcover. Fans of the young paladin who fell so far from grace will get to read his definitive story.

In June, Golden’s first Star Wars novel, also a hardcover, sees print. Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi—Omen is the second in a nine-book series she is co-authoring with Aaron Allston and Troy Denning. Also in June comes the conclusion of Golden’s StarCraft: The Dark Templar Saga with the release of Twlight, the third book in the series. The first two are Firstborn and Shadow Hunters.

2004 saw the launch of an original fantasy series called The Final Dance, from LUNA Books. The first novel in the series, On Fire's Wings, was published in July of that year. The second, In Stone’s Clasp , came out in September of 2005. With In Stone’s Clasp, Golden won the Colorado Author’s League Top Hand Award for Best Genre Novel for the second time. The third book, Under Sea’s Shadow, is available only as an e-book

Golden is also the author of two original fantasy novels from Ace Books, King's Man and Thief and Instrument of Fate, which made the 1996 Nebula Preliminary Ballot. Under the pen name of Jadrien Bell, she wrote a historical fantasy thriller entitled A.D. 999, which won the Colorado Author's League Top Hand Award for Best Genre Novel of 1999.

Golden launched the TSR Ravenloft line in 1991 with her first novel, the highly successful Vampire of the Mists , which introduced elven vampire Jander Sunstar. Golden followed up Vampire with Dance of the Dead and The Enemy Within . In September of 2006, fifteen years to the month, The Ravenloft Covenant: Vampire of the Mists enabled Jander Sunstar to reach a whole new audience.

Other projects include a slew of Star Trek novels, among them The Murdered Sun , Marooned , and Seven of Nine , and "The Dark Matters Trilogy," Cloak and Dagger , Ghost Dance and Shadow of Heaven .

The Voyager novel relaunch, which includes Homecoming and The Farther Shore , were bestsellers and were the fastest-selling Trek novels of 2003. Golden continued writing VOYAGER novels even though the show went off the air, and enjoyed exploring the creative freedom that gave her in the two-parter called Spirit Walk, which includes Old Wounds and Enemy of my Enemy .

Golden has also written the novelization of Steven Spielberg's Invasion America and an original "prequel," On The Run , both of which received high praise from producer Harve Bennett. On The Run, a combination medical thriller and science fiction adventure, even prompted Bennett to invite Golden to assist in crafting the second season of the show, if it was renewed.

Golden lives in Loveland, Colorado, with her artist husband and their two cats.

Przeszkadzała mi jednak jedna rzecz, a mianowicie tłumaczenie miejsc i nazwisk osób.

Zdecydowanie dla graczy World of Warcraft. A niesamowite i wyjątkowe wydanie będzie ozdobą każdej biblioteczki.

Jedná se spíš o doplňkovou knihu, která chce rozsáhlý lore World of WarCarft postupně přiblížit stravitelnější formou.

I consider myself a voracious fan of Warcraft lore. I have a huge shelf full of Warcraft books and collector's stuff. In fact, the story is what keeps me playing the game, even though I have many contentions with how it actually functions. Also, as someone who has played since Vanilla, I look back very fondly on the old world and all the little elements it contains. Thusly, I was excited to read Exploring Azeroth and take a journey down memory lane.

Unfortunately my experience wasn't as good as many readers apparently had, which actually makes me feel a bit guilty. The book itself took me about an hour to read, which at 120-ish pages, is ultra fast. Some of that is due to the extensive use of artwork (which is quite good), but it's also due to lack of content. The book does a competent job of briefly summarizing the major highlights of every zone while working in some details and items a person might experience or find, but it lacks a compelling story, and I didn't find many details I wasn't already aware of. There were often large chunks of blank pages, and with an already large font, it didn't seem as if they tried very hard to add emotional elements, especially when considering it was written by an author I normally enjoy for that very reason.

The book itself is written as if Shaw and Fairwind have been tasked with traveling the Eastern Kingdoms, "Lewis and Clark" style, as a pair of emissaries. One is very methodical, the other free-flowing and spontaneous. One writes orderly reports, the other scribbles all over them. They're a team, and they work so well together for all the wrong reasons. And when I think about that concept, it sounds absolutely fantastic. That being said, Shaw doesn't go into the 'deep secretive detail' I would expect from a spy, and Fairwind's strange, ALL-CAPS, often-sideways writing really made his character feel bizarre and almost too aggressive (The first word that popped into my mind was psychopathic).

If you're a person who hasn't experienced much of the story behind the Eastern Kingdoms, I think you'll find a compelling, albeit short, book which will encourage you to go back and find those little adventures yourself. If I were that person, I'd probably give this four stars. However, as a person who has already experienced that and remembers it fondly, I do feel as if they could have tried harder to create a more adventurous story line with actual experiences at each POI.

These two characters have started a same-sex relationship together, which is a new concept in WoW, and its clear this book did want to point that out in little ways. It could have benefited greatly by telling their story while also describing the adventures they had traveling through the important locations within their narrative. Simply reducing the font to a normal size would have made far more than enough room to do so, as it already had ample wasted space.

Overall, its not bad, but it certainly could have been a lot better.

nice and refreshing read after a day of dungeoning and Maw dailies. I really enjoyed it.
This is especially friendly for players new to WoW I think, even though I am sure for the staunchest of loremasters this will be a big boy to chew through.

Now I will admit if you're not already deeply into Warcraft lore you will probably struggle to appreciate it, but if you play WoW this is a combination of fun little insights into this part of the game world, some little Easter Eggs scattered throughout and the genuinely funny at times commentary from Flynn.

I can't lie, I was reading his footnotes in his voice pretty much every time.

I don't know if more are planned, but I'll definitely read them if they are released.

Akcja tytułu została umieszczona niedługo po rozszerzeniu „Battle For Azeroth”.

a slim but charming tome; the design & illustrations are really nice and i do like this a lot simply as a physical product. content-wise there's not a lot of new or really interesting information, but it's fun to see certain classic items and locations as described through an in-character lens. flynn's notes were cute and not too twee or overwhelming, and there are several quick but direct references to the fact that these two are in a committed romantic relationship, so that's nice

noticed the adventure zone shoutout too ;)

An easy read that provides a brief refresher on the Eastern Kingdoms zones, and not much else...

First off, let me say that I love that World of Warcraft is expanding its lore outside the game with unusual new books (a collection of folk tales from the various races of Azeroth, or a fun travel guide to the world of Azeroth, for example). However, this book didn't deliver on much of what I was expecting, and I think it's especially disappointing because I know what Christie Golden is capable of. I don't think her strengths lie in short stories or fun travel guides, because they don't allow for the emotional storytelling and character development she's known for, and what you end up with in regard to this book is pretty flat and far too brief.

Written from the perspective of two characters who should have wildly different experiences and knowledge, this doesn't feel like either one had a really fleshed out personality, and it was a shame that Flynn was reduced to short comments like "I want a phoenix!" as though he's an excitable teenage girl writing in her diary. While I expected Matthias Shaw to be professional and all-business in his writing, being more brief and straight to the point about the locations they visit, it would have been a great contrast and addition to the story to have Flynn write his own perspective on some of these places, and add more of his own anecdotes and little known secrets. WoW has TONS of material to draw from, but the book spent just a few pages at most within each zone, writing about things/people/armor that most, if not all, players already know about.

This book was an easy opportunity to write about travel guide topics like food and culture and the people living in these zones and how their environment influenced their society/culture/race. It wouldn't have taken much more effort, as most of that lore is already written, and it would have made for a much stronger book overall.

A fun look at many famous and some not so famous locales throughout the Eastern Kingdoms. The book is written as a series of reports and cliff notes on said reports by a two man exploring party of Stormwind Spymaster Mathias Shaw and our enthusiastic and bombastic pirate friend from Battle for Azeroth, Flynn Fairwind. These reports and cliff notes are both enjoyable and whimsical but don't really scratch beyond surface level details of the past events and current events taking place of these locales. It is a fun and easy read for fans of World of Warcraft, but if you're looking for deep story you probably won't find it here. Still, its a good resource to bring some of the old world up to speed where the franchise's story has come since Cataclysm in 2010-2012. For non-fans of World of Warcraft you are likely to be utterly lost, so I can't reccomend this book to you!

Overall, a fun ride through the Eastern Kingdoms to some fan favorite locations that bridges very small background details of these lands from past to present.

Honestly, I am not really sure this book was necessary. Sometimes it feels like a bit of a rip-off from the Chronicles. Simultaneously, the book is quite weird as a report - e.g., one has to think: "When this did journey happen so that Mathias Shaw would need to do all these updates."

It's also a bit strange how Fairwind knows so little about the history of Azeroth. Makes him look quite dumb or very ignorant. Which I do not like. (Especially since some of his joke are pretty cringy.)

All in all, however, this is a nice addition to the WoW Art/Lore books. It's a short overview of the main events (showing us much time has gone by since some of them). It's a nice source for imaginative scenaries from WoW. And sometimes you even learn something new or remind yourself of a long forgotten fact. Plus it is an easy read.

This book looks amazing, I love the way it looks, the illustrations look great and it love how they added extra details to make the book look like journal. I love these types of books and I do like the contents as well as we do get some more insight to past areas of the games within the context of the present like seeing the characters learning details that may not be common knowledge within the game but is common for players. Also love the few jabs at the game like making a joke about seeing a number of people wearing what is logically supposed to be a unique item from the game. While nothing to ground breaking in terms of new lore as most of it has been covered in other books or just in game but I think there may have been a few hints at future lore for the game.

This is my favorite Warcraft book since the Chronicle series. It features a great mix of art, lore and character, with the personalities of Flynn Fairwind and Mathias Shaw really coming out. I loved the exploration of classic vanilla zones, and I hope they will follow this with a similar book about Kalimdor (and Northrend, and Pandaria...), either continuing with Flynn and Mathias, or swapping for Horde narrators. My kudos to Christie Golden and all the artists & designers who worked on this book. It was a quick and fun read, and left me wanting more from this series (and these characters)!

Fun exploration of the eastern kingdoms with fantastic art direction and really cool design. However, the writing is super hit and miss and has to be suffering from too many cooks in the kitchen. Sometimes it's fine, but other times sentences don't follow logically as they jump from idea to idea, or basic paragraph construction is ignored and 4 or 5 distinct topics will be tackled at once. It's always jarring when it occurs, but the nostalgia of going through my favorite zones and instances was all worth it.

This book was beautifully illustrated, entertainingly written, and overall a great review of the lore of WoW told from a different perspective with even a few tidbits of new lore squirreled in there. While not as meticulously detailed as the WoW lore volumes, I found it much more fun to read something not quite so dense. Here's hoping we get more Exploring Azeroth books, I would love to see them done for every landmass/expansion!

I wanted to live this book, but I can’t. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad. It just seems childish, like something that a middle-schooler would write for a book report. And Flynn’s ‘comments’ thrown pretty much everywhere seem to always be in antithesis with Shaw’s. Again, not bad, just… lacking in content and depth. Great artwork throughout, the writing is not bad either, just, again, not that great either. Definitely a must have for fans, however.

This series which I currently collecting is wonderful. It's not heavy reading, but they are just gorgeous books that have essentially given us a simplified catch-up of events through the eyes of some of our favorite characters in WoW. It bridges the gap from the Chronicle books and also provides us with insight into the past, present, and future that you may have missed or forgotten.
