You Can Have Manhattan

Rate this book
You are cordially invited to the worst wedding of the century.

Sydney Evans is no stranger to hard work. It’s the one constant in her life. And with no family or friends to speak of it’s been easy to pour everything she has into her career as general counsel for Blackstone Holdings.

She wants for nothing. Until her boss offers her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. All she has to do in return is marry his good-for-nothing son.

Scott Blackstone used be a party whore. Pardon, party animal. He hasn’t been that guy in a long time though. Not since he moved to Wyoming, bought a failing cattle ranch, and turned it into a profitable business.

All is good. Until a phone call from his father threatens the quiet, simple life he’s built. Marry or lose everything. And to a woman who can’t stand him, no less. Well, Scott is not going down without a fight. He’s never going back to Manhattan. Not if he can help it.

Four bull-y, ranch-y stars combined with Manhattan’s skyscraper-y, view with Bryant Park-y stars!

First tango with this author but I’m glad to take out my dance shoes from the closet. Because I had so much fun! This book’s plot is a little similar to Claire Contreras’ Consequence of Falling. Especially the same reason created the hatred and edgy and angsty tension between the couple at the last parts of the book. I don’t want to compare the good authors’ writing style but I loved this version most because there was MORE ADORABLE AND UNDENIABLE ATTRACTION, PANT MELTING CHEMISTRY AND SARCASM in this book.

I enjoyed characters’ relationship progression from married couple-friends-lovers. This year I read so much freenemies stories. They shared same formula I wrote below:

HATING PROCESS: This part involves building tension between the couples, pranks they played on, resisting to like each other and resumed hating each other dilemma

IS THIS PLACE TOO HOT, SOMEBODY OPEN THE WINDOW PROCESS: Burning sexual desires they tried to hide, one unexpected kiss than BAM! Nothing seems the same which makes us move to the next part.

I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU, FRIENDS THEME SONG AND HANDS CLAPPING PART: The characters start to change and work on their friendship. They start to know each other and they become their person.

FALLING AND ROLLING INTO THE DEEP, PLAYED TO THE BEAT PART: They start to fall in each other and none of them are brave enough to say the L word! Immature chickenshit characters deserve to be scolded! But wait a minute! One of them is brave enough and ready to commit BUT….here comes the next progress.

EDGE/ANGST/ BRING OUT YOUR NAPKINS BITCHES PART: There is a naughty cliffhanger and a big revelation to test their trusts. They got separated to understand how they were each other’s forever.

GROVELING AND PROVING YOUR LOVE PART: We reach the final part (mostly the man) one side grovels to convince the other one take him/her back. And he or she makes a big gesture which makes us sigh incessantly and hold our hearts, making “aaauuvvv” sounds that disturb the neighborhood cats!

This book has the same formula but Sydney’s abuse story and her characteristics as strong, witty, golden-hearted, hard-worker, survivor made me adore her. Well, Scott is hottest ranch man you could ever imagine and I enjoyed his changing as soon as he started falling for Sydney. His first move to force her live in a cottage without hot water was dick-ish! And after the revelation part, I found his behaviors around Sydney extreme (gave me itchy hands! He deserved my slap shower!) so
I cut one star because of his unfair attitudes and judgmental behaviors!

My hero is definitely Miller who force Scott travel around the world and gave him the excellent punishment he deserved. (No! He still deserves my slaps!) I gave him my virtual high five!

As a summary: This is a great example and one of the sweetest freenemies books of this year. I’m looking forward to read more of this author’s works.

Special thanks to NetGalley and talented P.Dangelico to share this fantastic, witty book’s ARC COPY with me in exchange my truly honest review!

You Can Have Manhattan was just what I needed. Marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers executed to perfection. On top of that delicious and fabulous slow burn filled with funny and sexy moments from both Sydney and Scott that just made me smile and my heart sing.

Scott doesn’t want to be married to Sydney and does everything in his power to scare her off but Sydney is one tough and resilient woman. Sydney and her clowns and Scott turning off the furnace just to name a few things they both do to one another. They butt heads constantly but the tension is filled with an underlying sizzling heat just waiting to explode. It’s flawlessly written and not only is Sydney and Scott two compelling characters so are the secondary ones too. Sydney’s assistant Miller and Scott’s friends and colleagues Laurel, Ryan and Drake are simply terrific. Two cute dogs Romeo and Juliet have captured my heart too.

You Can Have Manhattan is why marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers are among my favorite tropes. This story captures it all. Strong and flawed characters, sexual tension and chemistry that jumps off the pages, sweet, sad and funny scenes that crawled under my skin and into my heart.
I know this is a standalone but I don’t want to leave Jackson Hole.

... A heartfelt slow burn.

This was a lot of fun to read. Another story by this author that was loaded with humor, heart, and chemistry. The first chapters of the story immediately clicked for me. I was highly entertained by the time I reached halfway point watching these characters fight and banter, and also amusing at the same time infuriating seeing the hero making false conclusions and treating the heroine unfairly. All in all, the story ended satisfying.

Note: This is an arranged marriage, enemies to lovers romance.

Sydney was offered by her boss an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. An one-shot deal that could change her life. All she had to do was to marry his son and live with him for three years. Scott was an owner of a cattle ranch in Wyoming, and wasn't interested with the business his father had built in Manhattan. Scott and Sydney who couldn't stand one another eventually married. But it's not the end. Scott did everything to show her that agreeing to marry him was a huge mistake. But whatever he threw her way, Sydney handled. Because she kept a promise, a promise of love and trust, even if it means completely losing Scott.

“I’m in love and I am loved. And that’s all I’ve ever really wanted.”

I loved a lot of things about this story. I loved the combination of tropes. Arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, and slow burn when executed well—like the way this book was done, for instance—could be a very enjoyable one. I also loved the writing style and the build up of the relationship. And most of all, I loved the groveling apology of Scott. It was simply perfect.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was an easy and predictable read, but P. Dangelico adorned it with her humor and a lot of feels, shaping an entirely more beautiful story.

I recommend this to those who likes: P. Dangelico, arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, slow burn, billionaire, and a happily ever after.

"I’ll wait for you. Doesn’t matter how long—I’ll wait. Doesn’t matter where—I’ll find you. Just say the word and I’ll be there ..."

I was looking forward to reading this and only ended up severely disappointed.

Sydney and Scott had zero chemistry. They’re thrown into this fake marriage arranged by Scott’s father in order for Sydney to become CEO of his company. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good fake relationship/marriage plot line because it almost always involves enemies-to-lovers, but this was just not well done. Scott is an enemy the whole time in my eyes. I demand to know what is redeemable about him. He was truly horrible the whole time. Making her believe he lived in ramshackle conditions, taking cold showers, making her sleep on an air mattress on the floor with no heat in WINTER IN WYOMING. THIS IS ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR. WHAT ON GODS GREEN EARTH PEOPLE? All the while this giant wad was sneaking away to stay in his actual home that’s lavishly furnished and has top of the line amenities.

All of that bull crap is just the beginning. For reasons not apparent to me, they “fall in love.” From what I read, their love is based on nothing but sexual attraction. He does terrible things, she finds out, he gives a mockery of an apology, then they’re boning each other in the kitchen all of a sudden.

Douchebag of the century finally finds out Sydney knew about his dad being sick and you know what he does? He destroys her. He removes her as acting CEO in the most humiliating way possible and then fires her. At this point, I’m wondering to myself how in the heck is the author going to redeem this guy after this? Is it even possible? Has the wool been pulled over my eyes and Scott aka Satan is actually the antagonist of the story?

Of course not. Douchebag of the century has a douchebag epiphany that he was in fact the douchebag of the century and “goes to get his girl,” who of course has not one iota of self esteem and takes him back because he’s so attractive.

I was so unbelievably frustrated while reading this. At first I really liked Sydney. I enjoyed her background story, but I came to resent her for not sticking her ground and all my positive feelings for this book quickly began to unravel. This ended up being just another story of a horrible jerk doing unspeakable acts against a nice girl and gets rewarded with her love anyway.

You Can Have Manhattan by P. Dangelico is a MUST READ for all the romance readers.

One of the best romance novels I have read this year.

Life changing moments rarely announce themselves. They’d rather sneak up and sucker punch you in the face by way of greeting. Thats how it happened for me. It started as a day like any other. Until it wasn’t. Until it turned into both the best and the worst day of my life.

It got me hooked from the first sentence. Add the fact that this is a marriage of convenience story between two people who don't really like each other, and you get an addicting unputdownable book.

Sydney Evans is a hardworking lawyer in a big New York based company. She has no private life besides her work even her best friend is her assistant. Her boss offers her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a CEO. All she has to do is marry his son and stay married for three years.
Scott Blackstone used to be the life of every party. Not since he moved to Wyoming eight years ago, bought a cattle ranch, and turned it into a profitable business. When his father blackmails him into marriage with Sydney he is angry and ready to make a city girl quit the deal, and get back to Manhattan.
While Sydney is trying to accommodate to her new life and be cordial with Scott, he is not going down without the fight and schemes. What happens next is a series of events that make me laugh and swoon.
As the two get to know each other and fall in love, I did it too.

There is nothing that I disliked about this book.
There were a couple of times when Scott calls her babydoll but it was more of a joke than a serious nickname so I can get over it. ( is not a nickname I like so it is a purely subjective thing)

“If I was a dude, I’d knock your teeth out!”
“If you were a dude, I’d be gay.”
“If you were gay, I might actually like you!”
“If I was gay, I wouldn’t be tempted to do this––” Dropping the towel, he took hold of my face, cradling it gently but firmly in his hands, and kissed me. Kissed me like he was into me. Kissed me like I was his to kiss."

This is a perfect read for you if you love;
-slow burn
-marriage of convenience
-enemies to lovers
-representation & character diversity
-realistic premise
-relatable heroine
-banter
-depth
-cute animals in the story
-grovel
-happy end

"We’re not built to be alone. We need to connect. We’re designed to seek common ground, to hold each other up, to nurture one another. And he did that for me instinctually.”

I am in love with P. Dangelico's writing and this is her best work so far. I love that she writes about characters that overcome their past troubles. I love how Sydney wasn't bitter despite what she been trough.

I wouldn't mind reading books by some of the side characters wink Damon wink.

This book put a smile on my face.
I highly recommend it.

If anyone know more books like that, please gave me their names. Thank you!

Slow burn marriage of convenience books with an enemies to lovers trope are my weakness!

Sooner or later they were bound to cause a spark. He just hoped he didn’t catch fire.

Scott is a former playboy who has left Manhattan years ago, he have little contact with his family living his life on his own on the ranch. Sydney is Scott’s father general counsel. She’s a tough woman in a man’s world. Sydney and Scott, who hate each other with passion, are forced to get married.

I loved Sydney so much! She’s such a strong woman who works hard for everything. She’s a tough one who won’t let anyone walk all over her. I really liked how she doesn’t easily forgive him and made him work so damn hard for his forgiveness. There’s something about easily forgiving heroines that annoy the hell out of me, but Sydney wasn’t like that!

Scott’s and Sydney have a really strong undeniable chemistry! I loved their banters and their slow burn romance. The book was also filled with great side characters. And the dogs? I really liked these beasts! This was my first read by P. Dangelico and I really liked her writing style. This was a really enjoyable romance read.

i LOVED all the tropes here.

marriage of convenience/arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, and slow burn?

description

characters
the heroine, Sydney, was great. i loved her! i have soft spots for heroines who are considered to be “ice princess” but they’re actually adorable yet fierce at the same time. i love em because they remind me of my favorite h of all time, Sadie from Rock Chick Regret.

the hero, Scott, was a former spoiled rich boy who liked to party and then reformed to something “better” after his best friend died 8 years ago.

did i like him? mehh. he was ok to me.

he was too much of a jerk for me to make me like him. i mean, he made the h live in this shitty cabin which apparently was his “home” (he was lying) with no heat and no hot water in the dead of winter for three weeks and he was off sneaking out in the morning to go take a warm, hot shower at his real home and don’t even get me started on him ruining her career and her reputation.

grovelling
the grovelling was actually good but i just wanted to see more tbh.

but how the heroine handled the situation when he was breaking her heart was awesome.

”You hurt me worse than any of the countless beatings I’ve taken.” Expression despondent, he jerked as if I’d hit him. “I loved you like I’ve never loved anything or anyone”––tears stung my eyes––“but you used that love against me. You used it to hurt me on purpose without even giving me the chance to explain…and I’m sorry you were in pain, I am. I loved him too. I mourned him too.” I wiped a tear away. “But I’m done crying over this and I’m done hurting over you. I don’t trust your love. It’s as deep as a suntan and I need someone to love me to the bone. I want a divorce, Scott. I want to move on with my life and you should too.”

description

to say that i was glad Sydney didn’t forgive him after one heartfelt speech was an understatement. i love a heroine who doesn’t forgive too easily just because they’re hot and makes the hero work for it.

the H said some swoony words and begged for her forgiveness, travelled the world to find her, sold his shares to her (cuz he basically kinda stole her CEO job cuz he was being petty), and told her he would wait for her.

hey, that’s good grovelling right there but i just wanted more scenes i guess. im kinda spoiled when it comes to grovelling scenes.

_________________________

but anyways,

i still really liked this book even though the H was a jerk for at least 80% of the time.

P. Dangelico has become a "must read" author for me over the last year, but fake/forced marriage storylines are very hit-or-miss for me, so I went into this a little skeptical.

And then, I proceeded to lose an entire day of my life because I didn't want to spend a single second away from Sydney, Scott, and their crazy addictive chemistry.

Holy Hannah this was good stuff. It moved very quickly, and yet I never felt like I was being cheated out of anything. My heart leaped on board the minute it met our growly alphahole hero, and it stayed fully engaged for the rollercoaster ride that ensued. And in the end? It was greatly rewarded for its troubles. It hurt so good.

From the aptly named title to the sparky, charged banter, to the unexpectedly lovable characters (Sydney, in particular, was a fantastic surprise with all kinds of emotional depth), to the wonderfully sweet ending, You Can Have Manhattan is the full package. This book cemented Ms. Dangelico's status as a must-read author for me. Another fantastic hit! ~ 4.5 Stars

So, I’m just going to lay it all on the line. Get my feelings out while I can. I’ve read a decent sized portion of this author's backlog and I’ve managed to reach a very important conclusion

P. Dangelico is my spirit author. I’m not sure what that means, exactly, but I figure if I can have a spirit animal (turtle, thank you very much) I most definitely can have a spirit author. I’ll try to keep my stalking to a minimum now that I’ve proclaimed my love, but I am prepared to gush about I’ll Take Manhattan and my adoration for this wonderful story.

Sydney Evans knew from an early age that if she wanted to make something of herself, she’d have to stay strong, work her butt off and look out for number one. It wasn’t as if she had a circle of family and friends to fall back on, nope our girl Sydney’s truly alone in the world. Maybe that’s why her boss has always been like a father to her. After giving her all to Blackstone Industries and earning the trust and support of the eponymous CEO, Sydney knows she’d do just about anything to make Frank Blackstone happy. Including marrying his over privileged, entitled manwhore of a son.

Scott Blackstone is taken aback when his father informs him he must marry Sydney or face being disinherited. It’s not the money that’s important to Scott. For the past decade, he’s made his own name as a Wyoming cattle rancher and has put Blackstone Industries behind him. That is, until his father brings the pain and lets him know he’ll be selling off all of Scott’s treasured preserved lands unless he agrees to marry Sydney and support her installation as the new CEO of Blackstone.

From the beginning, neither Sydney nor Scott is thrilled with this idea. Sydney’s memory of Scott includes him getting drunk at his sister’s wedding and Sydney eventually kicking him in the groin. Long story but I’m on Syd’s side. Anywhoo, Scott left Manhattan with a manwhore reputation to rival all and that’s just what Sydney expects to find when she flies out to Wyoming to seal the deal. What she gets instead is a rugged, hot as hell rancher with no traces left of the Scott she once knew.

Scott thinks Sydney’s an uptight “vanilla blond” and has no interest tying the knot. This animosity sets the stage for some entertaining, and sometimes emotionally painful, battle of wills and I loved how Sydney managed to hold her own. As the two spend more time together, it’s no surprise they both begin to find something missing from their lives previously.

I wanted him to stick, though. I really really wanted him to stick. Scott was turning out to be the most wonderful surprise of my life. I’d been an outlier since birth, searching for somewhere or someone to belong to, and with Scott, I’d found it. Even if it was only for a little while.

It isn’t my normal routine to sit down with a book and finish it in one sitting. Too much work, too much kids and too much husband makes it difficult to plop down for hours of uninterrupted reading time. Well folks, that’s exactly what I did with I’ll Take Manhattan. I started it and before I knew it, I was thirty percent in and hooked. Scott and Sydney drew me in from the very beginning and I couldn’t quit if I tried.

As I mentioned, this isn’t my first P. Dangelico book. From the beginning, I’ve enjoyed everything this woman has written, but I never really spent the time to think about why her writing worked so well for me. Well, this book kinda brought everything into focus and I can now say, with certainty, that it’s everything. The story that slowly unwraps itself but always gives you enough information to stay invested, the awesome dialogue, the quietly painful emotional moments that make you tear up but never feel contrived or overdone just for the sake of bringing the feels. I love it all and this book was the perfect example of all that goodness coming together.

One little bit of awesomeness I can’t overlook. If, like me, you love to see a misguided man evolve and maybe even grovel a bit, Scott does a nice job of truly growing up in this book.

After all the sunshine blown during the course of this review, I don’t have much else to say except go forth and read this book. I mean it, one-click this puppy like your life depends on it. I’ll wait.

Sydney Evans is a woman living in New York who has no family or friends to speak of. Her career was her life, and she excelled as a woman in a male dominated business. She’d been the general counsel for Blackstone Holdings since she graduated law school, and adored her boss. He was her mentor, and she would do just about anything for him. She soon finds out that includes marrying his spoiled, rich, self absorbed, playboy son. In exchange, she is offered too good of an opportunity to turn down that could be life changing for her. Could she marry a man she barely knew, and didn’t even like? Last time she saw Scott Blackstone he was a partying loser, but maybe she could give it a chance for a while as his fake bride. She just had to look at it as a business arrangement, and nothing more.

Scott Blackstone is a gorgeous bachelor living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he owns and runs a successful cattle ranch. He loves his peaceful life and has invested everything into the Lazy S Ranch. His quiet, simple life is threatened when his father rocks his world with one phone call giving him an ultimatum. Marry or lose everything he holds dear. He left Manhattan years ago trying to escape a past he’d rather forget, and now he would have to pretend in public to like this pretty but uptight woman. She was a distraction he didn’t need, and he didn’t know how he was going to live with this surprising attraction between them. They had crazy unexpected chemistry, and his body responded to her whether he liked it or not. The unwelcome sexual tension sizzled whenever they were close, and what was to be fake was suddenly feeling too real. Things get complicated when he realizes he just might be falling for his wife.

-I wanted to kiss her. I'd never wanted to kiss a woman more.

-It was exhausting, fighting this beast of an attraction between us. And I was done trying.

-This was a man made for "sinning" and if that was true then I wanted to be a sinner too.

This is how you do the marriage of convenience trope justice. Ladies, I loved this book! And I hadn’t expected that I would since I never read anything by this author before, which just makes this surprise all the more awesome.

Sydney Evans is offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to be the new CEO of Blackstone Holdings. The only catch is she has to marry the current CEO’s son whom she can barely stand.

Meanwhile, Scott Blackstone wants nothing to do with his father’s company. He has since found his peace after deciding to leave his old life behind and become a rancher. So you see, this union is not going to be easy.

Judging by the title I thought this book was going to be set in the busy streets of Manhattan. However, the majority of it actually happens in a cattle ranch area in Wyoming. I don’t have anything against the urban life, but I just love reading about life in the countryside where it’s calm but also wild and refreshing.

If I were to be honest, the fact that our h has to marry the H in order to be the CEO of the company is a little insulting to me as a woman. I mean, why does it have to take her to marry a man to be taken seriously by the board members?! *Cue in Taylor Swift’s The Man*

The hate to love aspect was pretty convincing. I loved seeing how they slowly rediscover and see each other’s true self. The book could’ve done better with the backstory of our characters, the grovelling, and the steam, but I was satisfied with how the h handled things between her and the H.

Overall, I found this book to be thoroughly enjoyable to read. The story may not be the most original, but the execution just ticked all the boxes. I would absolutely recommend to those of you looking for a good ole romance read with some arranged marriage aspect, enemies to lovers situation, and a slow burn.

P. Dangelico has been a strong favorite for me for quite some time now. She has the ability to create characters who are equal in abilities, charm, and internal strength. This is huge...for not all characters in books are created equally. It is very easy to have one or the other not be up to snuff with an imbalance of power. This can happen unintentionally so it is a pleasure to read when we are given a couple who can give as good as it gets.

Sydney Evans is a woman who has risen to a level of career solely on her determination, focus, and talent.
With the childhood and family life she experienced, she could have developed another way. Instead, she forged a steel core, an ability to rise to any difficulty or occasion, and was now the general legal counsel for Blackstone Holdings. This was not an easy task as her mentor and CEO was a man who was a master manipulator. Oh, he could be loving but he also could be ruthless in his need to control everything.

So when he walked into Sydney's office and told her he needed her to do something for him, Sydney said yes before asking what. She loved this man and had gone to the wall for him many times. It was his support and guidance over the years which felt the most like a father to her. When he presented the reality check he was going through...Sydney was stunned.

Mr. Blackstone wanted her to marry his son...the one who had the reputation and social media to prove him being the most irresponsible person ever. Oh, and the fact she may have shared a toe-curling kiss at a long-ago wedding had nothing to do with her dislike of him...She did not want to have anything to do with him but when she is presented the goal she had worked for all these years at Blackstone and an emotional plea from the big man himself...Sydney sucked it up and said she would do what he asked.

Scott Blackstone had a love/hate relationship with his father. He loved him as he was his dad but at the same time, they were both strong men and Scott did not want to have anything to do with the family business. Scott had taken those feelings of conflict and partied hardy for many years. It took a life experience to give him a wake-up call to realize he was being a spoiled brat with lots of money. With that attitude adjustment, Scott discovered what mattered to him and changed greatly.

The passion which made Scott realign his priorities was having a cattle ranch and land in Wyoming. It also kept vast acres from those who wanted to develop housing tracts. This land would remain natural and free. This endeavor became profitable and strong. He became responsible and respected by the small group who worked with him. He still was the essence of him...but a better version.

Scott had been ducking his father's calls for a while now and finally, he had to take them. When his father demands he marry Sydney so that Blackstone International can remain in the hands he wants when he retires, Scott is not on board. Nope, not happening...except then his father does what he does best, blackmail his son as he is the one who had helped to keep the section of the lands clear and away from developing. Scott could not let that happen, so fine...He will marry the Ice Princess Sydney.

Both of these people are not wanting to be in a marriage of convenience. Sydney remembers Scott as the spoiled, handsome brat. He has the memory of Sydney being uptight, button downed Ice Princess with a spine made of steel. Both, though, remembered the smoldering kiss that happened back at a wedding...

This tale has depth and care besides humor, smart banter, and storytelling. Each person had a very intense backstory which gave us an understanding of exactly who they were and how they got there. Sydney was so compelling. She had this life where a turning point early in her childhood caused her to become one of the most incredible characters. She took these experiences and still was able to be a positive person. She did have issues but the way she was able to move forward and not dwell in the past was commendable. I felt for her.

Scott had become a better man but still had a streak which caused him to behave in this situation which harkened to his past...making decisions which would come to bite him in the a$$ later. Watching this two steam up the room, the chemistry, and unrequited desire both having was so much fun.

This read so fast and I had a very hard time walking away from it and going to work. Sneak reading was required. There was a point when I wanted to throw my kindle, but then the author gave a reason as to why...So I swallowed hard and accepted it.

P. Dangelico gives her readers more than they expect every time she publishes. I will be looking to see what is next so I can mark my calendar.

Overall Opinion: This was a fun read! I was looking for an arranged marriage type of story and this fit the bill. I enjoyed their banter and I really liked the h! My complaint lies in the conflict. I felt like it was a little bit too OTT for my liking (the H especially). It was like the H hit a switch and did a complete 180! He did, however, grovel -- so there is that! Overall, an enjoyable read 😊

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Sydney and Scott's story. Sydney has been the leading council for many years and is shocked when she is asked to take over the company for the CEO. The condition is that she has to marry his son so the board of directors will go along with it. What she remembers of Scott isn't great, and Scott isn't too thrilled about the proposition either. The more time they spend together to more they start to see past their past judgements of one another and start to fall in love. There are some funny scenes, some sad moments, and some sexy times...and they get a HEA ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Sydney and Scott's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I thought it flowed well and I never skimmed.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H (Hero) rating: 3.5 stars. Scott. I liked him, but I was bothered by how he reacted to their big conflict.

h (heroine) rating: 4.5 stars. Sydney. I really liked her. She was strong, smart, and sassy!

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had a cute epilogue but I would've like to see more! I would call this a HEA ending

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

This is my first P. Dangelico read and I should say the writing was totally a winner. The characters, the setting, the banters-- oh, definitely a surprise!

You Can Have Manhattan starts when Sydney Evans, the general counsel for Blackstone Holdings, was offered by her boss and owner of the company Frank Blackstone a marriage of convenience to his son Scott Blackstone. Frank has a terminal illness and he worries that his son won't be able to handle the company when he passes away so he has to delegate the responsibility to Sydney as the CEO. But the employees would be skeptical about her abilities for the position so he convinced her to marry his son so she can have the power to enforce to everyone that she is certified for the role.

Sydney didn't like the idea because aside from the fact that she will marry someone without an ounce of love, she personally disliked Scott who's known for his reformed playboy and party animal image. Scott, on the other hand, doesn't like her because for him she is like an ice princess. Cold and heartless.

I loved the enemies-to-lovers and arranged marriage trope in this book. And the fact that this is an adult romance is an added bonus. Sydney is 34 years old while Scott is 38. I rarely read books with this age range so it's refreshing for me. When it comes to the chemistry, there was certainly a lot of it between the main characters. And the every day banter-- it was fun that it made me smile at times.

What made me rate the book lower though was because I found the plot a bit common. I've read this kind of plot and series of events before which made the whole story quite predictable to me. However, all in all, it was a sweet and sensible romantic read. I loved the slowly but surely romantic progression as well. Sydney and Scott didn't fall automatically in love at first. In fact, they didn't even feel attracted towards each other, but their love meticulously bloomed in a well-paced progress and this is something that I appreciate in this book.

reread - April 2021

As I reread, I felt a few moments & actions struck me differently...or maybe left me more taken aback? Briefly, I even considered a slight decrease in the rating, but you know what? When I reached the end, I realized all over again it’s the sum of all You Can Have Manhattan’ s parts(all the messy, good, swoony, brutal, vulnerable, funny, complicated, beautiful, or hot moments)that ties everything altogether that makes this story so complete to me & a bonafide 5 star read. So as infuriating as Scott is for a small stretch in the latter stages, or as sad & awful as Sydney’s childhood was or the gripe under the spoiler tag in my original review that I still have, none of it takes away from the fact You Can Have Manhattan is one of my absolute favorite mashups of enemies-to-lovers & fake relationship & imho without question P. Dangelico’s best.

Idk if it will ever happen, but my fingers are still crossed for Drake’s own book🤞🤞. PD, I still want my Cowboy Casanova’s story, pweaze. I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a Ryan book too actually. Or how about an audiobook of this one? Hell, I’m after any excuse to go back to the Lazy S ranch 😉.

Oh! One last note - how gorgeous is that cover? 😍 Seriously, it’s one of my all time fav romance covers. It’s so classic & beautiful.

first read - September 2019

I’m not gonna sugar coat it, this romance is a bit of a wild emotional ride. I’ll also add I’m not one damn bit sorry I got on it. This is absolutely top shelf in the world of slow-burn/enemies to lovers romances.

These two are so damn headstrong…& so well crafted, believable & distinct. They were imperfectly perfect for each other, even if I may have wanted to slug the hero on a few occasions.

The side characters were great & memorable(especially the two big furry ones - Romeo & Juliet as well as the human ones like Miller, Devyn[albeit brief], Drake, etc.).

If I had one gripe with this book it would be

Bottom line - I have no doubt You Can Have Manhattan will remain in my top 10 reads of the year.

I'll leave you with one of my favorite book lines of the year...
“Mad at you? Nah, man. I’m not mad, bro. I was just in the middle of making a wax figurine of you and sacrificing a chicken in your name. If your balls start to itch, you’ll know why––”
(Ha!...I love how fierce of bff Miller turned out to be.)

"I'll always find you."
My first ever P Dangelico!

Plot: It's convoluted so I won't bother trying to sum it up in one sentence . . . just know this is a marriage of convenience, enemies-to-lovers shin dig that's set out in an admirably believable way. :D

Overall, I really liked Scott and Sydney; he's mean and she's not a doormat - they made for great foes, each approaching their marriage from a different angle. I loved that they were evenly matched in their 'war' against each other.

The beginning - 5 STARS!

What a great start this book had! There was lots of humor and snark. Scott and Sydney's first impressions of each other were hilarious.
Scott was a cliché, a proud club-carrying member of the caveman association, addressing every woman - whether he knew her name or not - as babydoll.
Their impressions were so superficial and judgmental.
She was cold, uptight bitch. Pretty if you liked non-descript vanilla blondes. Which I didn't. Curvy brunettes were more my style. Ones with blood rather than antifreeze in their veins.
It was the perfect set up for this kind of trope. Good stuff.

The middle - 3 STARS

Things fizzled somewhat for me at this point. More for what wasn't on the page than for what was. I thought there weren't any meaty scenes that gave these two a chance to know each other, no meaningful conversations or moments that built much emotional intimacy.

There were quite a few funny moments though.

The end - 4.5 STARS!

So, I love a good emotional kick in the pants, and Ms. Dangelico gave it to me, LOL. Did events go too far? Probably. Did some of it come across as convenient plot devicery©? Afraid so. But the story kicked my heart up into my throat, and I LOVE that kind of writing.

Thank you so much to LEILA for reading this one with me! <3

4.5 “Hopeful” Stars

A new author to me and boy did she make a fan out of me. A fantastic arranged marriage of enemies to lovers that is full of sexual tension, emotions and heart.

Sydney Evans is an amazing woman. She has worked hard for everything in her life, her mantra....I’m a thriver not a survivor. She is loyal to one man, her boss, Frank Blackstone, who has groomed her to take over his company. So when he tells her she must marry his son, her loyalty and her compassion agrees. Scott Blackstone is a playboy turned cowboy. He’s running a ranch in Wyoming and is content and happy to be away from NYC. But when his father says he must marry Sydney or lose the ranch land he loves, what choice does he have?

Sydney and Scott start off on the wrong foot or I should say Scott sets out to make Sydney miserable. But over time, these two grow on each other and start to develop real feelings. But a secret that Sydney holds could bring down the house of cards. Only time will tell if these lovers will go back to enemies once the secret is out.

I loved the progression of this story. It was filled with animosity, friendship, hilarious moments, heartfelt moments, sexy tenderness and a fabulous epilogue. Parts of this story were heavy weighted but the author showed how thriving from your past can be done. I will say that I loved the secondary characters. They were great compliments to both Sydney and Scott.

Overall, a great read for lovers of enemies to lovers troupe. I thought the added part of an arranged marriage was fitting to these enemies. A story that entertains and puts a smile on your face.

Being a woman in a male-dominated business meant I was often underestimated and seldom given the respect I deserved.

Isn't it relatable?

I am only talking about the ladies because I know for sure it happens all the time. The start of this book was great. But that was it. Only the start, first few chapters were good but other than that it was just okay.

My main problem with this book is the male protagonist. He is a real asshole.

“Your clothes are distracting my men. That’s dangerous for them. Don’t wear those”––he stabbed an index finger at my tights––“around here again.”

I hate these type of men who thinks they have the nerve to tell a woman this. It's not her fault his men are getting distracted. It's their fault they can't keep their tiny dick in their pants. Or maybe the male protagonist has the biggest problem. He can't keep his dick in his pant, gets hard by merely seeing the female protagonist flesh, and then blames her for her clothing? On top of that this just doesn't happen once but multiple times.

This ruined the whole book for me.

I have been around the kind of people who constantly tells me what to wear and what to not wear. Trust me it's not pleasing. Besides the whole book, the male protagonist treated the female protagonist badly. This book simply wasn't for me.

Amen.

Addition as of 23.09.2019

Thank God, my dear friend Funda, who is one of my "book soul mates" has read it and I thank her for taking one for the team.

As she hated the hero because he was a major jerk and rated the book 2 stars, I lost my interest in the book...

You ever read a book and immediately after finishing it want to start it all over again? This is a true rarity for me and exactly what happened here. A Top 10 Favorite of all time on my list, and definitely my favorite book of 2019! This was incredible, stunning and so perfect.

It starts with a very believable setup to a marriage of convenience trope between enemies. Sydney is one of my favorite characters ever. She had a really horrible childhood, and is strong, resilient and has such an incredible attitude about everything. Scott is not who Sydney thinks he is. She thinks he’s an entitled, party boy and he definitely was when she first met him. But, they haven’t seen each other in years, and he is now a responsible grown up. I am obsessed with this couple! Their chemistry, their banter, the pranks was so dang good! They’re both keeping major secrets from each other that will change everything. There were so many layers to this book and I felt ALL the feelings.

I could not put this book down! I don’t want to leave this couple and this world at all. Seriously, you NEED this book in your life!

* I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I fell so hard in love as well with Scott and Sydney!!!
Both characters were strong, powerful and perfect for each other. Their relationship was electrifying with sparks all over the place, their chemistry palpable and so vivid.
An amazing emotional storyline that kept me turning page after page and I didn’t wanted to end.

God, I love P. Dangelico's stories soooo much!!!!
Add to that my kind of trope which is a rearranged marriage turning to something more and hey.... I fell in love from the first chapter!!!

"Life changing moments rarely announce themselves. They’d rather sneak up and sucker punch you in the face by way of greeting. That’s how it happened for me. It started as a day like any other. Until it wasn’t. Until it turned into both the best and the worst day of my life."

Scott and Sidney...
A forced marriage between them...
Ill feelings in the way from many years before...
A small cabin on the countryside...
Unexpected feelings coming in between...
Some secrets of the past and the presence in the way, and bang...
A wonderful story that can charm your pants off!!!!

I won't say much, cause i still have no much time on my hands, but i would recommend this story in the blink of an eye!!!
I loved Syndey!!! Yep, she was supposed to be cold and very focused on her carrer, but the fresh air of the countryside and a brooding man who was making her life a living hell, show us how far away her true self was than she was appearing to be!!!
Scott was... hot in every aspect!!! I liked him how he were away from Manhattan... It was suiting him!!! I understand his reason why he was doing some things, but he was also unfair at some points!!!
No, i won't say more... You have to discover their story for yourselves!!!

"We’re not built to be alone. We need to connect. We’re designed to seek common ground, to hold each other up, to nurture one another. And he did that for me instinctually.”

The only thing that i will add is that I love that Mrs. Dangelico's stories have everything inside... They are funny, steamy, antsy and in a way... unpredictable!!! The twists are keeping you on your toes all the time and of course the characters are soooo swoony and wonderful!!! Every. Single. Time!!!!
