Will their marriage of convenience survive the wilds of Alaska?

Callie lives a socially isolated life in New York City with two jobs that leave no time for dating. After meeting her neighbor’s son, Derek, she falls hard but knows he is out of her league.

Derek proposes a modern-day marriage of convenience, and Callie accepts with the hope of his love growing after they marry. But once they arrive at Derek’s homestead, she finds that off-the-grid living is not for the faint of heart.

When his initial interest in her is called into question, her biggest fear comes true. He wants a wife and a commitment, but what about love?

Evangeline Kelly is the pen name I use to write contemporary Christian romance books. When I was a kid, I had two dreams. One was to work with at risk youth and the other was to write books. After pursuing my passion of working with foster children for over twenty years, I finally decided to pursue my childhood dream of writing.

I love a good book that draws you in and takes hold of your heart. When I write, I hope to show real life situations people go through and how God uses those situations to draw us closer to Himself.

I’ve witnessed suffering in my line of work, but I’ve also witnessed God’s redeeming love. A good Christian romance features both hardship and delight. My hope is that my stories not only entertain, but encourage, and most of all, that they bring glory and honor to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

This cover is so deceiving! You’d think it would be kind of cheesy and not a good story but it was so good and even though the cover is cheesy it matches the exact description of the character which I love! If you like the rugged guy falling in love with the city girl trope then this book is perfect! It also had a surprising amount of faith content which was exactly what I needed!

Funny thing...this was the second Marriage of Convenience story I read in a row. I didn't quite realize this one was written in that trope so when I started reading it, it was a fun surprise. Especially since I had just read one with my previous read. I hadn't read the blurb for this book before I picked it up. I was just excited because I enjoy this author's books and was looking forward to seeing her take on an Alaskan romance. And let me say that I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I figured I would enjoy it but I really liked these characters.

Callie and Derek were very real and straightforward characters. I loved how they were looking for something substantial and real in a partner for marriage. Someone they could truly respect, befriend and eventually love. And I truly liked how the author was able to show their individual insecurities but use those as a positive way in developing these characters and their relationship development.

I picked this up and sped through it really fast. It took me two hours to read and enjoy. So if you're looking for a read you can finish in an evening or during a couple lunch breaks or in between laundry and making meals...this is one that would definitely fit your schedule.

Callie and Derek have a sweet relationship. Callie's insecurities from a previous relationship as well as her relationship with her mom hold her back in opening up to anyone and believing that someone could and would truly see her as herself and love her for herself. Derek was wonderful and did such a great job teaching her to trust him and know that he cares for her and doesn't see those insecurities as anything negative but as part of what makes her Callie.

Sweet story. A little bit of understanding and pain. A lot of learning and growing. And some sweet and tender moments!

Content: Clean. This is a Christian Fiction story and the characters talk openly about God and believing that He is real and guides them.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I needed a bit of a break from the YA books. It took a bit to find a book that would strike up my fancy. Let's just say I started feeling a slump beginning and I had to get out of the YA and into something different.

When I saw this I jumped on it. One thing that always gets me is a fake marriage or fake fiancé or as this book falls under the marriage of convenience. Then I saw it was a Christian romance, it was a done deal after that.

Callie and Derek's slow burn was amazing. I loved everything about this and how they put God first. I wish there was more to the story. I didn't want it to end. I wanted to continue with their story.

This is exactly what I needed to help get out of the slow funk that was coming on.

Cute, fast read but I really didn’t connect with these characters. I liked the premise though. 3 1/2 stars.

This was a quick, sweet little read without a ton of depth. In saying that I'm not insulting the book or the author. Sometimes what we want in a book is just relaxing and quick. I call it candy for the brain.

Derek is a christian man that has made a life off the grid. He got tired of the hustle and bustle of the life he'd always known and made the change to a life in Alaska. The only thing he's missing is a wife to share it with.

Callie is tired of the busy life that she's living in New York. She has no time to do anything for herself let alone create a healthy relationship. Heck her closest friends are an older lady and two other girls that are neighbors in her apartment complex not that she gets to spend much time together. When her neighbor asks her to a luncheon to celebrate her son coming home to visit Callie agrees just to get away from her work for a little bit.

Derek's mom is so sweet how she keeps trying to push Callie and he together. I love how she prays for her son to find a good woman. This book is filled with prayer and talks with God which I love.

The premise of the book was good but I hadn t realised it was a Christian romance.
There are a lot of scripture quotes and a few prayers.
Obvious bitchy other woman vying for his attention at the beginning.
HEA.

I didn't mind it other than the bible quotes.

A short, modern, marriage of convenience story. It was a little preachy at times, but sweet, clean, and enjoyable.

Great Short Read Novel

Callie moved to New York for a promising editorial job—and to escape the feeling of loneliness. And yet, despite the city’s energy, she still feels alone. Enter Derek, the son of Callie’s neighbor, a man in his early 30s who has been living off the grid in Alaska and is also longing for a sense of family.

The story started off strong—I really liked the first part—but I started to lose connection when Derek proposed.

Different, but good! A modern marriage of convenience, but with God at the forefront. Derek gave up a lucrative albeit demanding job in order to live simply and “off the grid” in Alaska. Dana is trying to make ends meet in New York City and can only dream of writing a novel. They meet at his mother’s apartment; Dana lives across the hall from her.

Sparks fly but Dana is unsure of herself due to an ex-boyfriend’s break-up with her, when he stated that he settled for her but can do better. Ouch! It is difficult for Dana to let go of that hurt and trust Derek. Both believe they can turn this marriage of convenience into a marriage of love. Although doubts have a way of creeping in, I liked how Dana dealt with them.

Living in the wild may be beautiful, but it has its drawbacks as she soon finds out. Honestly, no indoor bathroom? But oh, such nice benefits considering the quiet, the beauty, and the honorable man who is giving her his all.

Wow, this was so fun to read!
I love how the author brought in some sweet moments between the two main characters and how their relationship grew.
It was fun to read about a marriage of convenience and how it turned into a deep love.
I also appreciated how the author wrote about some individuals' struggles with self-esteem and how the voices in our heads can do more damage.
Evangeline Kelly has recently become a fun author for me to read. Her writing is smooth, and the books move along so that you don’t want to stop reading because you become invested in the characters' lives. Her books are clean, and she weaves beautiful examples of God’s love in each one. They are rich in lessons we can all relate to.
If you want delightful, fun, romantic, easy-to-read books, this is one author to look for.
I highly recommend you pick this book up and start reading right away!

Sweet

I loved this sweet, clean romance and marriage between Derek and Callie. Derek was an investment banker in New York when he decided to take the plunge and live off the grid in Alaska. He later meets Called while visiting his mother back in New York and is immediately attracted. They are both confident that their feelings will escalate into love if they trust God and each other in working toward this goal and decide to marry & build their relationship within. This was a really good story.

Married to an Alaskan Man

Another sweet, clean love story. Callie lives a rather secluded life in New York with 2 questionable friends and a motherly neighbor. Her love life has been less than great and her mother is always trying to change one thing or another about Callie.
When her neighbor son from Alaska comes to visit his mother he takes an interest in Callie but she finds it hard to believe Derek is serious. Will a relationship form in 3 weeks? Will either be able to make any necessary changes to be together?

Married To An Alaskan Man is a heartwarming story. Full of humor, with the sadness of over thinking everything, and almost giving in to doubt and fear. This story shows how this couple both fully believed in the Lord working in their lives, but sometimes thought they knew better than he did. Once they searched their hearts they knew they had made the right choice and was living every minute of their off the grid marriage in the kind of love that only comes from the Lord.

Another lovely Evangeline Kelly novel.

I really enjoyed this start to Evangeline's Alaskan series. Callie and Derek's individual stories were interesting enough, let alone when their lives converged. Although the story is rife with miscommunications - as one expects with near-strangers - the happy ending finally hits the page and relief ensues!

Looking forward to foot-in-the-mouth Hunter's story!

Callie and Derek

Callie knew his mother before she met Derek. His was back from Alaska visiting his Mother. He was. attracted to her but 3 weeks wasn't enough. He talked to her about marrying him and joining him in Alaska. it took 3 days but Callie agreed. Careless words caused her to doubt Derek's love. But she became determined to fight for her marriage.
Excellent story and characters. Really enjoyed it.

Loved the book!

I loved that you brought out the fact that marriage is a vow to God as well as your spouse. God tells us it is better not to make a vow than to make a vow and not keep it. I also liked that they prayed about things before they made a decision. She also brought out the fact that what we are on the Inside is more important than how pretty we are. It was also interesting to learn about living off the grid.

This book had potential but it was just odd. The timeline is written for our current date, but the characters thoughts and choice patterns were not current...it was like they stepped out of the 1960's. People think so differently now, religious or not. It was also filled with a lot of Born Again concepts that don't always line up with basic Christian beliefs, so it felt preachy. I had higher hopes of really liking this book. But it just came off as annoying instead.

The Alaskan wilderness makes a marriage stretch.

Callie and Derek enjoy a whirlwind courtship, three weeks from introduction to marriage, in fact. Callie brings hurts with her and they distort things that Derek has said. Will it destroy their marriage before it’s even started? Author
Evangeline Kelly brings her characters to life so realistically that you identify with them and their feelings. This was a fun book to read.

New York to Alaska

Callie had to over come an inferior complex and understand her own worth before she could find happiness. After meeting her neighbors son visiting from A!asks, she was swept up in dreams of living off the grid in an untamed territory. The story captures your attention and is a wonderful read for all ages. I appreciated not having to put up with bad language in this wholesome book.

A Little Unbelievable

Callie lives in New York. Derek lives in Alaska, off the grid no less. One day he comes to visit his mom Deborah who happens to be Callie‘s friend. In three short weeks, he wines her and dines her and asks her to marry him and she says yes. now she’s in Alaska and learning about living off the grid. Love will grow Derek says, but she’s not so certain. Read the story to find out what happens.

Left wanting more

I really liked the concept of it and appreciated the God conscious perspective but felt that the main character was underdeveloped. She presented as an insecure woman with poor choices in friends, and estranged from her mother which made her vulnerable and impressionable. She was "blessed" to find a handsome, patient, understanding husband with a great body who whisked her away to the wilderness with bears and out houses and lived happily ever after.

unconventional, thought provoking, satisfying

I enjoyed this story. The timeline might have been a little rushed but it worked. It was refreshing to see characters take their situations to the Lord and his word naturally.
There was whitand charm as well. I especially liked his present to her. Enjoy

Sweet

I really appreciated the maturity both main characters showed throughout the story. Situations that in other books would have turned into huge deals blown totally out of proportion were instead considered thoughtfully, prayed about, then acted on. A rare and lovely quality.

Love Comes Later

Derek lives off the beaten path in Alaska and is ready to marry and settle down. When he is introduced to Callie, he is immediately taken with her and he offers her a marriage of convenience. Callie is taken with Derek, but as she explores more of his life, she isn't so sure she made the right decision ~

It was a cute story but I feel like it wasn’t that satisfying. I feel like there was a lot of loose threads that were just left hanging. I also like a fmc who stands up for herself more than what Callie did but that’s just a personal preference. If you’re bored and want to read something cute and quick, then this one is a good read.
