Dear Diary... My heart is black. My soul has been crushed beyond repair following the tragic and untimely death of my father.
Now I'm being forced to leave everything behind and move 2,000 miles to live with my mom-a woman who I haven't spoken to in ten years.
It won't be easy but I'll give her and Riverstone twelve months. I'll finish my senior year to keep her quiet and then I'll up and leave, the same as she did to me.
Twelve months... like there's going to be anything to keep me in Riverstone anyway.

What a great start to what I think is going to be a good series.
I went into this thinking there would be more for some reason but the amount we got was interesting and builds up the story for what’s to come. I can’t wait to see where these stories takes us.
Avery and Cole are going to be interesting, I’m eager to see where this path leads them.
She’s grieving and being made to live somewhere she doesn’t want to be in a school she doesn’t want to be at and the last thing she needs is the popular kid and his arrogant self all up in her space.
He’s popular and wanting more than just that. He’s tired of people using him for what he has but he’s arrogant and cocky and knows he can bed any girl he wants. What he doesn’t expect is a girl to crash into him and bloody his shirt, she must pay for that, right?
From the little amount we were given with January I can only assume the rest of these books are going to be interesting too, I hope to read them all some day.
Dear Diary by Lacey Heart was a quick read which showed the progression of the character through the month of January. It had some really good diary entries which helped you get into the mind of the main female character, Avery and what she is going through due to her move to a new town to live with a mother who she hasn’t seen in years and how she is trying to distancing herself from that relationship, dealing with the death of her father, starting a new school and being on the radar of one of the elite boys at school, Cole.
The story is quick to read and ends on a cliff-hanger because of course there are going to be eleven more novellas of this book and I’m hoping we’ll see the relationship of not only Avery and Cole evolve, but everyone else we met in the first installment. A really good and entertaining read!
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊
Dear Diary: January was a book that I would recommend getting from KU if you have it as it was very much a prequel to this series and a beginning. Dear Diary: January starts with our main female character Avery moving to Riverstone to live with her mother whom she hasn't seen since she was ten years old and Avery is now 17 - with only a year to go till her 18th birthday. Avery has moved in with her mother as her dad has died. On her first day, Avery headed to the counselor's office and walks into Cole Ashford who is the King of Riverstone High. We read as Cole breaks up with his girlfriend Maggie who has this Queen Bee feel about her as well. We learn through that Cole is sick of being the one everyone wants and it seems he wants to carve his own path out. The book ended on a cliffhanger and was very tame in terms of bully romances and read more YA than New Adult. I am personally on the fence to whether I will continue this series, but I will see when February pops up to see what my mood is as it may be a series I read just using KU rather than purchasing. Dear Diary – January by Lacey Heart was also a quick read.
Dear Diary is my first Lacey Heart book but she definitely leaves me needing more. If her plan is to release each month at a time, I will be here for all 12 books in this series!
Avery moves to Riverstone not by choice but because she has no other options, and she' not at all pleased about it. Caleb is the king of Riverstone and an absolute jerk. From their very first meeting Avery hates him, I mean how can you not when he bloodies her nose and doesn't think twice? However, you can definitely tell something is going on deep within Cole. Avery has walls up to keep everyone at Riverstone away, her plan is simple stay until she's 18 and leave. I do think there is more to the story of her mom that what she knows.
Heart hasn't given us any steamy yet, just enough hate to keep us going. Dear Diary - January was a quick read that left me needing more. I have so many things I need to know and I have a feeling she's going to keep me hanging for awhile. But that's ok, I'll wait for what she has. I hope she releases February in February so I don't have to wait long for more.
This was a great start to the first book in a new series. I was pulled into the story about Avery and Cole. Both are struggling to be listened to by those around them. In the meantime, they are circling around each other. You can tell that they have a strong connection and that part of the story will be epic. Until then, the groundwork has been laid and the reader has learned there is much more to come in this story.
Heart has come up with an interesting concept - serial/novella length installments releasing monthly in diary like formats. Well, there’s diary entries with interactions happening among the characters happening between entries. I’m interested to see how things play out. This first installment is just laying groundwork for the overall story. I’m interested to see how the author works things into this format and how much she can insert into these short serials.
I liked the blurb of this book and really hoped it lived up to the potential I expected. Dear Diary, January, I expected a months worth of angst and getting to know the characters, but unfortunately that wasn’t the dish that was served up. It was 11 short chapters that i read in less than 30 mins, and with the title i presume there will be more books, 1 for each month of the year. Avery has just lost her father and circumstances force her to reside with the mother who abandoned her ten years previously for the next year to finish out school. Determined to get her year in, graduate and get out of there she keeps her head down and just wants to get through each day. Her first day doesn’t go well, and she crashes into the Cole Ashford, the school hottie and topdog. An instant dislike of each other becomes apparent. On her second day at the school their battle lines are beginning to be drawn. For me personally, this book didn’t reach anywhere near my hopes. There was a lot of errors, that i am sure with beta reading and half decent editing would or should have been picked up before it got to publication. As a reader i get disappointed when such basic errors are left in to diminish the reading experience. Although the blurb enticed me, the actual story just needed more work and as a reader i’m not sure this type of story will work best in a diary like form of 12 books, with so little detail to entice us to go further, maybe it should be a duet of 6months for each volume. I felt maybe the author should have warned us before hand that the book would be so light in content and it felt more like a sneak peak than finished article.
Dear Diary – Lacey Heart – 3 stars *ARC received in exchange for an honest review*
Dear Diary - January is a month to month novella written by author Lacey Heart. January Dear Diary is the introduction into the series of novellas and was a short, quick read. It is a bully romance that focuses on hot shot and king of the town Cole and new girl in town Avery. Avery hates the fact that she must start year 12 at a new school when she was almost finished, and her aim is to just get through the year and leave. Cole is over everyone and everything, he is the king of Riverstone and everyone wants him, so when Avery bumps into him and doesn’t automatically fall at his feet he is intrigued and aims to find out more. This is a very quick intro into the characters so there is a lot to come and as such I’m left wanting more. I generally don’t like cliff hangers as I hate waiting for a new book, however, with the promise of monthly novellas I am happy to see where it goes. Overall and easy quick read for anyone who enjoys a light bully romance that ends on a cliff hanger.
I am intrigued by this book and concept. The book will come out monthly just like a diary entry. I was intrigued by Avery and I want to know about her story. What happened to her dad? Where was her mom this whole time? Avery starts are new school and runs into literally the most popular boy in school and town Cole. Cole, the broody alpha male that knows that he is either feared or wanted by everyone in school. There are a lot more new changes to come for Avery and Cole and I can't read each month what they are.
