Jacqueline Shea has played by her hotelier family’s rules her entire life. When she’s assigned their Halloween-themed Las Vegas hotel, Masquerade, she’s angry. After decades of striving, the campy spot is a snub. She won’t be able to take over the Shea Group and guarantee her grandfather’s legacy if everyone’s too busy laughing at the fake cobweb décor.
Author Agatha Neumeier’s career has been flailing. Her first book’s sales are abysmal and now her agent’s dropping her as a client—just in time for Agatha’s first weekend as an invited guest at ShudderCon. How is she supposed to face her panel audience when she feels like a fraud? She needs a stiff drink to help her mourn the death of a childhood dream.
Jacqueline and Agatha butt heads at the Masquerade flagship bar when Jacqueline scoffs at Agatha’s enthusiasm for the hotel’s signature cocktail. Though Jacqueline’s suspected that she might be a lesbian, she’s never reacted this strongly to anyone before. Too bad she can’t be seen carousing with a woman, let alone a nerdy writer type. Unless…
Jacqueline needs help understanding her hotel, and with ShudderCon in full swing, what better guide than a guest who’s passionate about the con? A deal like this might be the only way for the two to explore their connection. But can Jacqueline step out of the confines of heiress life when the shadow of her family’s disapproval lurks in every cobwebbed corner?
Crowds, cosplay… chemistry - it’s all happening for these lucky ladies. Six lesbian romance authors have teamed up to bring you love: convention style in the brand new ShudderCon series.
The House by Lily Craig The Payoff by Sienna Waters The Show by Hildred Billings The Bluff by Kate McLay The Shark by Cara Malone The Longshot by Anna Cove
Mmmm, now a bit worried: number 1 of 6 authors, all doing "Shuddercon" - so whole story pushed into a weekend - don't get me wrong, brought into the characters but felt story needed more time to ferment! Still, some really good authors to come, so watch this space.
A bit predictable, but a cute story to start a multiverse universe of rom/com authors.
Agatha is a burgeoning author who revels in her geekiness & all things related to her favorite convention Shuddercon. She's going there now, after releasing her first book. She's getting an author's table & parts on panels, & hoping to get glimpses of her favorite authors & celebrities. It's being held this year in Las Vegas, at the Masquerade, a Halloween themed hotel.
Jacqueline, is a member of the Shea hotelier family. She's just been given the task of running the garish hotel, more as a joke by her disapproving family.
These gals meet in the bar & try to convince one another about the greatness or weirdness, depending on the character if this Con & hotel. All whilst trying not deal with attraction & issues of a closeted heiress.
This was a nice into to the hotel and of its interesting quirks. Jacqueline has been charged to the Masquerade. Its not the hotel she would've chosen for herself, but it ends up being exactly what she needs. She meets Agatha at ShudderCon who ends up showing her the beauty of her hotel and awakens the desire to live her life. Agatha also seems to get what she needs through her sometimes tumultuous relationship with Jaqueline. Both women must decide to step outside their comfort zones in order to obtain the future they desire.
Los Vegas has a Halloween themed hotel owned and managed by family of hoteliers. An invited guess meets the new manager at the hotel bar and things go down from there. At first things seem like a one night stand, but as things progress they both learn something. The author has created a story which may or may not seem like things cannot work for both of them. Enjoy!
Great story and read. About two different women, one a nerd whose trying to become a author, the other whose family one a chain of hotels she is there to improve the hotel and think she is a lesbian. Definitely give this a chance you might be suprised how it good it is. Definitely recommend the author Lily Craig did an excellent job writing this. 5 stars
This is an ok book. Good characters, good story. The only thing that lets it down is the ending. It quite abrupt, you have to imagine the happy ever after. If the ending was more in depth then this would have been a great book.
The romance was cute. Jacqueline's decision to quit her job and cut ties with her family and abandon her grandfather's legacy seemed more than a little hasty. The move may have been understandable, but it came across as mostly flighty. That aside, the main characters do get their HEA.
So excited for this series and what a great start! It's an adorable story with twists that will keep you guessing at the end. Cannot wait to start the next book in the series
