It is 1992 and Werner Grossman who used to work for East Germany's Stasi has been hired to put together a project that if successful will create very dangerous biological weapons. The Israeli Mossad learn of what Grossman is up to and it is decided to terminate both him and the project. A Operation with United States assistance is put together, one that will require two male soldiers to perform a very unique type of undercover work. The Operation's name- Witchcraft
This was an engaging and captivating book of Spycraft that almost seemed like nonfiction, except for the "Boxes". Transgender men and women have played crucial roles in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, as well as the Cold War and Middle East conflicts.
The use of magical boxes that could transform an alpha male into a very beautiful female is the fantasy of every transgender woman. Unfortunately, it's a cruel and cheap literary trick that turns a good transgender story into a cheap fiction. Magical sex changes immediately kill the credibility and emotional connection with the story and the characters.
At least this story attempts to make Zara and Sapphire a little transgender, young men who had to give up hope of transition because their puberty had made them masculine beyond repair. At least they expressed the desire to be women once it was offered to them.
The rest of the story is remarkably well researched and detailed. Aside from the Box, it could very easily be a real case, much like how Ian Fleming based his James Bond character on a real life spy codenamed Garbo.
Tanya Allan fans will probably love this book. I enjoyed it but didn't love it.
Always entertaining with just the touch of transgenderism blended seamlessly into the plot. Great character developement and excellent plot. What more canI say.
