Well, at least that's how I'm described in the confines of my everyday life.
Writing has always been second nature to me. I spent my childhood creating short stories and my collegiate years writing for the campus paper (Go TERPS!) Jump twenty years to the present--I'm still writing. At my day job I spend most of my time writing capability briefs, white papers, proposals--you name it.
Then one day it hit me. It was time to access my own creative power and bring to life the characters lurking in my mind.
I hope you enjoy my first book, Beautiful Nightmare. It has everything you'd look to find in a paranormal romance-urban fantasy-new age novel. Vampires. Wolves. Love. And so much more!
I chose to read Hearts Eclipsed after Beautiful Nightmare, because after experiencing the story from Damina's POV, I wanted to know what Jackson and Dalcour were feeling...
The narrative in this novella begins and ends at the same points as Damina's in Beautiful Nightmare. I felt that we didn't get enough of Jackson in that book, and a lot of Dalcour. This book is more balanced.
Damina is quite torn between them... On the one hand is the 5 year relationship with Jackson, who she loved and trusted so much that she agree to spend the rest of her life with him; and on the other hand is her Fated relationship with Dalcour, feelings she seems to have no control over...
"Hearts Eclipsed" by L.C. Son is a companion novel to "Beautiful Nightmare (Book 1)." I did not read book 1 first, although the author recommends to start there. Nevertheless, I soon found myself immersed in an easy to follow storyline with smooth settings and interesting characters.
Jackson is a wealthy man of power. He is in love with Damina; beautiful, sultry, and strong yet resigned. Their passion for each other is mutual and exquisite. But Jackson has a secret that prevents them from consummating their love sexually. He is a werewolf. As long as they remain unmarried, Damina will never have to know this other part of him. Jackson obsesses over the perfect way and time to confess all to Damina. He is not the only contender for Damina's affections but he is determined to make Damina his wife.
In the meantime, Jackson continues his personal goal of ensuring peace in th supernatural world. This isn't always easy although his small group of friends and family support him, sometimes by challenging him.
Caught between the natural and supernatural he tries his best to be noble, to be a protector, to be a person who can be relied on. His instincts work for him and against him.
The other supernatural beings he encounters create epic scenes that sometimes border wonderfully on the macabre.
"The smell of freshly spilled blood feathers my nose, causing my fangs to elongate and my tongue to slither at its invitation."
Horror turns to heartache as Jackson's wolf form overtakes him, causing him to miss a vital milestone in his and Damina's life together. Then Damina disappears. Jackson is sworn to protect her, and must find her or else lose everything he has ever cared about. But what if she doesn't want to be found?
Although there are traitors in his midst, Jackson needs to choose to trust his supporters, even when their actions defy his will.
This modern werewolf story is fast-paced and flows well. The pure love is sweet but tempered by morbidity so as not to be saccharine. Told in first person present from Jackson's point of view, this paranormal romance involves werewolves, vampires, and other dark creatures who aren't always as evil as they appear. Hinting at sex without being gritty, and exploring grim scenes of murder without being explicit, I recommend this for fans of paranormal romance.
What a great companion to the first book! It was so nice to see the guys side of the story. From their point of view, I feel like I got more info, more insight and more explanation. This novel had more betrayal and darkness and it got right into wolves and vampires which was great! It did help me understand the relationships more and for that I appreciated. I highly recommend this for wolf and vampire lovers that love a good romance.
Son’s latest, a companion novella to her debut paranormal romance, offers the promise of a compelling world filled with dark secrets, deadly betrayals, haunting love, ardent passion, and vivid characters.
Drawing on elements from Damina Nicaud’s paranormal world in A Beautiful Nightmare, the book takes readers on a darker journey with Jackson Nash and Dalcour Marchand narrating the story from their own perspective as betrayals and bloody contentions force both men to stand against darker forces.
The first-person narrative (told alternatively from Jackson and Dalcour’s perspective) is evenly paced and thick with anticipation, revealing the protagonists’ backstories and unraveling intricate plotlines.
Son’s captivating prose, sophisticated plotting, and thorough characterization, combined with unexpected plot twists, will fuel readers’ eagerness for the next installment in the series.
A beautifully written, gripping paranormal romance!
While Beautiful Nightmare (Book One) was very descriptive with introducing the characters and setting a foundation for the plot, Hearts Eclipsed dives right in. This book is a well-written perfect companion novel for providing a different perspective without retelling the story. It is adventurous and explains past events that lead us to the present situation. I love the fact that this is not your typical love triangle. There is more at stake than one broken heart. I am even more intrigued by the side stories of the supporting characters. They provide both comedic relief and depth to the story. Hearts Eclipsed gave me a better understanding of a new world that has me anticipating the next book. I usually do not read fantasy novels, but I am becoming a real fan of the Beautiful Nightmare series.
Thoroughly enjoyed it! What a fabulous follow up to the first book in the series! Since the first book was from Damina's perspective it was great seeing the world from Jackson and Dalcour. The only thing I wish is that I hoped the author would give more clues from the book one cliffhanger. But it doesn't take anything away from the overall story! If you love wolves, vampires and paranormal romance this is a GREAT BOOK!
A strong follow-up to book one in the series. It's always fun to get up close and personal with different characters, and this book does just that. Jackson and Dalcour are such fabulous characters to journey we, and getting to see their perspective was awesome. While we didn't get any insight into the cliffhanger in book one, this book did refresh the characters for me and made me eager for more. With wolves and vampires aplenty, this paranormal romance is a must-read.
I picked this up on Kindle Unlimited after the author posted about the book on facebook. I was captivated by that pretty cover, and the book was great as well. I could tell the author took time to edit/format this book and it paid off in the beautiful story. I do feel like I would have enjoyed the story more if I read the previous book first because while reading I didn't realize it was part of a series. Still an enjoyable story.
Loved this! I've read books that are from the other person's point of view but they usually retell the tale well not this one!! It's Dalcour and Jackson's part of the story and it's a must read! I can't wait to find out who what happens next, yea yea you've heard that before but when you get to the end you'll understand.
Warning: could contain spoilers from the first book 🦄🦄🦄 And, what do we do about us? When she chooses one or the other? 🦄🦄🦄 As Jackson grapples with losing the love of his life, he must overcome a dark family history and fears far worse than death in an effort to reclaim his lost love and stake his claim as the Prime Alpha he is meant to become. Meanwhile, Dalcour races against a deadly deadline only to be caught off guard by a love that awakens the most dormant parts of his dark soul, bringing back a light he never thought he’d see. Betrayal and bloody contentions against vampire Scourges and Skull Wolves will ensue, but both men will soon discover their fight has only begun. 🦄🦄🦄 Hearts Eclipsed is the companion novella for Beautiful Nightmare (which I absolutely loved) by LC Son. This book tells the story of the love triangle from both the men's perspective and how their individual relationships with Damina affected the route they had first thought they were going to take. On one hand Jackson tries to fight for her and clear whatever misunderstandings conspired between them and Dalcour found love with her which he did not think was possible. Now, first of all because I read Beautiful Nightmare, I did have a favourite (after a lot of pondering ( and that was Dalcour because he was basically her knight in shining armour. But knowing what I know after reading this book, my heart is confused again. I liked this one a lot too, just like I did the first book because the change in perspective makes you understand that just because Damina had a lot going on in her life doesn't mean the men involved were living hassle free. I'm genuinely scared to read the third book because whatever decision she takes is going to hurt. One sitting was all it took for me to finish this. No book changes, minimal bresks and within 4ish hours I was done because I was hooked. Just like the first book, it's written brilliantly with a little romantic cringe from time to time but nothing overbearingly mushy and it's obviously going to be a bit repetitive from time to time given we've seen certain events from Damina's point of view. (Love triangles are a bit cliché but this series is proving to be worth the time ever if it's just for something known but different.) 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 9.5/10 Melina L
Are you a suitor? __ Suitor means a man who pursues a relationship with a particular woman, with a view to marriage. __ I have never-ever read this kind of book long ago, as I have started reading a few months ago though. I enjoyed reading this book, but at a certain point I was stuck but I took a break and finish this book __ The book is beautiful and talks upon love, marriage, compassion, affection, and a lot more. In the beginning, it was a scene of a honeymoon, and here where the story starts. There are three main characters in this novel. The lady and two men i.e. Jackson Nash and Dalcour Marchand. There is so much going on and out in this novel. __ What I like __ ✅ The romance between the lady and the men. ✅ Compassion and love for each other. ___ Writing Style ___ The writing style of the author is good, the way each character, build, and introduce was great. Vocabulary is very strong so that I needed a google to surf out its meaning. The overall creation of the book is fantastic. ___ Recommendation ___ Those who are looking for a crazy fiction read to fantasize their imagination, so for that, I definitely recommend this book “Hearts Eclipsed is a Beautiful Nightmare Companion Novel” by L. C. Son
It's always nice to see different POVs in a story. This novella covers the major events in A Beautiful Nightmare as seen through Jackson's and Dalcours' eyes. It was particularly interesting to see what Jackson was going through since most of his action happened offstage. There were some editing issues but so many that it was completely distracting. Overall, a nice addition.
