In Book #1 we had Maddie and Colby and now in Book #2 In Every Way, we have Maddie's friend Bess and Colby's friend, Josh. Bess has always been a big girl and after a bully made fun of her in middle school and called her "Bess the Cow," she became so self-conscious of her weight and her looks. It's hard too as her grandmother loves her food and is biggish too. If only Bess had her grandmother's confidence in that "Big is Beautiful," she would realize that she is a stunning young woman. Summer is here, and school is over, Bess has just graduated and was hoping to spend her summer with her new friend Maddie except Maddie has gone jet-setting to Spain with her family and boyfriend Colby. Bess gets a job working for her Grandmother's friend Julie in her shop on the Beach strip. Julie can see that Bess needs help with her confidence and sends her down the strip to her friend's store where she gets a mini clothes makeover which compliments her curves. Later this leads to her being accidentally hit in the head by a football which is how she encounters Josh. Josh wants a girlfriend but lately is finding everyone a bit crazy as they are too obsessed with their looks, what they eat and their cellphones. He wants somebody who is "real" and a genuinely nice person, and it seems that he has found that someone with Bess. Bess can't believe that someone like Josh would want a "fat cow" like her and starts to think he is playing a trick on her. Can Josh prove to her that he likes her? What will happen though when they head to a party together, and Bess discovers one of Josh's friends is none other than Bryce - the bully who made her life miserable. I have to say; I loved the character of Josh as he loved Bess for who she was and stood up to Bryce ( who BTW I hated with a vengeance) Amy Sparling had written the character Josh as a genuinely nice guy who for most is a rare quality.
Though this book was a slower read for me, I really loved the characters of Bess and Josh as they were both genuine people and also the author showed that you don't have to be a thin model and beautifully to stun on the outside to get an awesome guy as being beautiful on the inside counts for 100 of those stunning, gorgeous model girls.

It was a cute addition.
Not as good as In Plain Sight. It was weird to all of a sudden have a friend that knew Maddie before she moved and dyed her hair, since no one was ever mentioned...ever. I don't think it was necessary. All of the self shaming was hard to read. It makes me sad to think there are people who really feel that way about themselves. And it was super short again.

I liked the protagonists, but...
I think that Bess's issues with her perception of her weight are serious, and she probably needed more help with her self esteem than a makeover and a new boyfriend. I also feel like the story could have been longer, more fleshed out. Hopefully remaining books in the series will address some of these things. 3 stars.

Must Read!
This book is everything a reader needs in a good romance. The characters are so cute and fun to follow. Not to mention there are some kick butt older women that give advice worth reading for (if not for anything else). I can’t express how much I loved this book and how it was adorable even in the sad parts.

Not the book to read at bedtime!!
I enjoy reading before bed, a chapter or two then off to dreamland. Didn't go as planned. Once again I was drawn into a world created by Amy Sparling. I was happy to see character from the previous book and i love the fact Amy dealt with weight issues and how girls feel about themselves. My only complaint is the abrupt ending. I'm hoping to find out more of what happens to Bess and Josh in the series.

I absolutely adore Josh! He is so great with Bess, they are adorable together! It was sad how down on herself Bess was but understandable when you are called something for so long it becomes a fact in your mind.

Kinda bummed
I was really getting into this book and then it felt like it just stopped. So many questions in the air. Loved the book but not a fan of the quick ending.

At first I was confused because Bess came out of nowhere as Maddie's friend, but I liked the Josh/Bess romance.
But honestly, what was with the ending? It just stopped mid-plot.

Cute series! I liked Bess a lot and enjoyed Josh's character as well. I enjoyed the writing and the story. It was fun and light hearted. Read both of the books in the series!

I've never read Sparling's work before now, and I'm glad I started with this book. The description is what grabbed me. It sounded like a quick, light beach read of a romance. With summer winding down, the setting is something that definitely caught my eye, but there was more to the story that kept me reading.
I haven't read many books set in that in-between time after high school graduation and before college starts. It's a strange summer in limbo and a lot happens in an adolescence's life. I enjoyed that aspect of this story. Both Josh and Bess grow over the period of time this book takes place. They're done being high schoolers, but not quite adults. There's young love, but maturity between both at times. It's a fresh take on romances for me.
Sparling also touches on bullying, popularity, and self esteem issues in the book. Both are very real for the age group of these characters to deal with. They make the characters who they are, while at the same time the book isn't bogged down by drilling these into the reader's head. It's there, it's important, but the characters slowly overcome issues and I enjoyed how the author did it. And even in the end, like in real life, things don't go away magically. People, and the characters in this book, need time to work through things.

Even more generic than the first volume in this series. Honestly, if Bess occurred as a character in that book at all I do not remember her. In fact, as I recall things
Oh, and though I can't imagine you'll need it... Yeah, YUUGGGE shocker there. Still and all, what the hell do you or should you expect when you pick up a book like this? You don't go to McDonald's expecting Michelin fare, and you have every right to be pleasantly surprised when it rises to the level of, say, Friendly's. And on that level this book worked, arguably at level that is above average for this sort of thing.
Here's an amusing thought for a third volume: I'd read the fuck out of that, personally, even though I'd be skeptical Sparling has the chops to pull it off in way that would be remotely convincing. But, eh, in teen romances how high is that bar in the first place.

I enjoyed this boy
I enjoyed this book, I wished it would have gone Into more details of her insecurity with Josh however I really loved Bess character. And it seems like Josh was her Prince but again I want a little more romance and a little more of him helping her through the weight issue. So.hopefully there's another book coming that will give me all of this.
Overall a lovely read, didn't take me long to get through it. I look forward to reading more from Amy sparling

It's a cute story about a young chunky girl that falls for a handsome hunk named Josh. Bess is not the normal pretty skinny girl that parties and attends all cool party's that all young girls attend. When Bess and Josh officially meet due to a football incident Josh cannot stop thinking about Bess. Great story and hopefully all guys are a little more like Josh.

I really enjoyed this book. The only had one problem. Even though I know she had weight issues. I thought it was too excessive in the beginning. Other than that it was a great book. I was happy to see an appearance of Maddie and Colby.

I think this book is a good book, because it teaches us no matter what we look like, there will be someone that likes you. You don't have to worry about how you look. Some people like you just the way you are.

Very cute. Agreed that the girl MC was pretty harsh on herself, as was the boy MC's "friend. But, overall good! (Loved Josh!!!)
