After a harrowing encounter at the bottom of the world, biologist Adalyn Price wants nothing more than to get away from it all. Hounded by the media and the scientific community alike, her sister Penelope is the only person that stands between Ada and her nightmares. And when a stranger’s proposal sparks Penny’s interest, Ada is forced to rethink her plans.

José Narvaez, a researcher studying life in the Amazon, approaches the sisters after stumbling across a creature that had roamed unseen for 12,000 years. For millennia, tribes have passed down stories of monsters living in the jungle.

Now, evidence has come to light that threatens to reveal the hidden truths in age old myths. Reluctantly, Ada and Penny agree to join his expedition, aiming to provide the world with proof that monsters do exist, and deserve to be protected. But the Amazon doesn’t give up its secrets without a fight, and there are more than myths and legends in the flesh haunting the uncharted Amazonian wilderness. Some monsters are more human than not.

Also includes an exclusive short story that continues Ada and Penny’s adventures!

Adding a new favorite writer to my action/adventure list. L.D. Whitney, the author of Existence, has written a fun and exciting adventure that will take you into the heart of the Brazilian rainforest. If you enjoy books about prehistoric creatures that keep you hanging on the edge of your seat in anticipation like I do, this is the book for you. This story flows, the characters are well written, and the research is flawless. I also discovered a new hero, Adalyn Price. She is a "Lara Croft" kind of character that you will root for throughout the book.
Searching for creatures that lived 12,000 years before, a team led by Jose' Narvaez ventures deep into the rainforest attempting to prove they exist. Battling the elements, tribesmen, and Jaguar, the team has its work cut out for them.
This is a true adventure that I highly recommend. The negatives? None so far as I'm concerned. I loved it! Five stars for a book well done.

A couple of adventure-ready sister protagonists, an exotic jungle location, some tenacious baddies, and some "extinct" megafauna thrown in for good measure. EXISTENCE by L.D. Whitney is like a summer blockbuster adventure movie in book form.

Whitney has leveraged a background in archaeology and an interest in paleontology into an action-packed thrill ride of adventure fiction. From its three-dimensional characters to its lush but "lived-in" setting, tense action scenes and twisting plot, EXISTENCE is a great read, especially for fans of modern pulp adventure like TOMB RAIDER or Michael Crichton's CONGO and JURASSIC PARK.

I had a blast reading it, and I'm quite picky about my pulp. I'll be keeping an eye on this author's future work. Well done indeed!
