After my mom forced us to uproot our life and move to a fancy new town, I’m effectively the outsider. Still, somehow a charming jock and a dangerous bad boy catch my attention.
Not even a week into our new lives, something is wrong. The man my mom works for is hiding something, and I think my crush’s family, the Scotts, are a part of it. More than one person has gone missing here. Midpark might look shiny and new, but underneath it lies a darkness no one can deny.
I’ve been lied to, used and discarded. I can’t trust anyone around here. Everyone has their secrets…and some of them are deadly.
The rich have their vices, and when they have enough money to cover up their crimes, it’s always people like me who end up paying the price.
Feisty is the first book in the Midpark High trilogy. There are steamy scenes, along with multiple love interests. Everyone in the book is 18 years of age or older. Just as a warning, future books in the trilogy will get darker. A High School Bully Romance
Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.
Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!
If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.
I adore this book. I absolutely can not wait for the next one. It has all the makings of one of those series that worm their way into my brain and never let me forget.
About the book... this is the first of a dark contemporary series. But this one isn't that dark... oh no, not yet. The author, Candace Wondrak, said this series will get darker. So you better believe it will. So excited about this series.
The characters are in high school. It seems like we have a couple budding psychopaths who are already starting with an obsession. The FMC wants to know more about the house she lives in and the guy her mother is working for. Why? She lives there AND it's the same house from Sins. So yes, she hears mentions of Celeste. She wants to know what happened. Did the man with whom she lives have something to do with her disappearance?
Now, as a reader, we know the answers she's looking for if we have read Sins. The FMC is muddling through making waves... and has and will catch the attention of the Scott family. Remember Travis from Hillcrest University? How about Ed, Lincoln, and Stella from the CBH series? If you have read Wondrak's other series, there's a whole lot of name drops... and it adds to this story because I'm like a super fan. Or a stalker super fan. Or something. Moving on now. ;)
This book will leave you begging for more. The plot, the characters, the premise, the drama, and all the darkness lurking about... it's what fuels me. It's why I read. Utter perfection.
About the author... her books and series are the perfect combination of all my favorite genres. RH, yes please. Dark romance, hell yes please. Serial killer, unhinged, or completely effing psychotic? YES!
Candance Wondrak writes the kind of books many other authors are afraid to write. Her books sometimes get bad reviews from people who have triggers and don't listen to the advice of the author or other readers because they just want to see what the hype is about. But make no mistake... this is gold. This is writing that leaves me thinking and wanting more, more, more.
Few authors consistently leave me speechless at the end of a book. This is one of those authors.
Recommend for those who have NO TRIGGERS, as this series will get darker. For fans of RH, dark romance, psycho killer families, and all that fun to read stuff.
Candace Wondrak is a talented author who creates fantastic characters who get you hooked and her stories drag you in. Before you know it you are on the last page. Highly recommend
I tried, I really did. First off I’d seen this book pop up loads before but the cover I found off putting but it ticked all the boxes for being a book I would love so I thought I’d give it a go, you know, don’t judge a book by its cover and all that.
The book is about a girl called Jasmine whose mother uped and moved them to a new town to be a live in maid for a man called Ollie (seemed her mum was running from something) At her new school Jaz learns some rumours that involve her mother’s new boss, the man they live with. She also meets Archer then Vaughn at school. She starts to try and investigate these rumours to see if her and mum are safe in their new home.
The book did intrigue me, and I’d like to know what was going on with Archer after he and Jaz hooked up. (Not much of a spoiler because it happens so early in the book). But the writing style and layout really put me off and took me out of the story. Every interaction she had with the guys switched to the boys POV. And for all the talk and hints that she’s feisty and used to get into lots of trouble at her old school I just found her pretty meek and boring.
I think, and this might just be for me but I would have loved to read this from just Jaz’s POV. Because a lot of the questions for me were answered when it switched to the boys point of view, which slowed down my drive to keep reading.
Whew...this book blew my mind 🤯 Once I started this book, I couldn’t stop! I can already tell this series will have dark secrets galore and plenty of betrayal and hopefully some redemption. I do want to add something important to my fellow readers, this book takes place in a vast and complex world created by Candace with several of her other series. That means there are a few characters who have made appearances in other books and there is also mention of The Family which seems to play a huge role in this world she created. I would highly recommend starting in the beginning with the Cruel Black Hearts series so you have more of an understanding of the Family and then the plot from Sins seems to have a huge role in this book. If you jump straight into this book without reading the other books of this universe, then you may be left a bit confused.
So I am loving this new series. It has the typical high school drama any new girl would experience but things also end up being taken to another level which is just downright cruel. Kids can be ruthless a**holes to each other. I really like Vaughn and Jacob but Archer is a prick. I am not really sure what to think of Archer at this point. I am not sure I can find him redeemable as the series progresses but that maybe the author’s plan...you never know with Candace, the Psycho Queen 😂 It seems as if Archer is being blackmailed for something by the school’s mean girl which then led to the horrible humiliation done to Jaz at the party. Brittany, the mean girl, reacted just like any typical high school girl would when she finds out her “boyfriend” cheated on her which is to immediately target and blame the other woman rather than hold the boyfriend accountable, but I digress.
The new man, Dante, introduced at the end of the book has my interest pique the most, mainly because his story seems to add a whole new element to the Midpark universe not seen in any of the other books. I am super excited for this new series and I cannot wait to learn about all these new characters and their secrets.
Fantastic job to the author for another thrilling and captivating read!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This book was a great start to a new series. It was full of excitement and twists that I did not see coming. Candace Wondrak never disappoints. I can already see that this will be a dark, twisted and delicious series. I love the tie in with her previous books, especially Sins a particular favorite of mine.
Jaz is new in town. Her mother just up rooted her in the middle of the semester, with no explanation, to work as the live in maid to a very mysterious wealthy man. Jaz now gets to live in a huge mansion and attend the prestigious Midpark High. At school she hears some very upsetting rumors about the man she and her mother are living with. Fearing for their safety, she is determined to investigate further.
She also meets two very interesting, sexy men at school. She finds herself attracted to both. Vaughn is dark and covered in tattoos. He comes from a very mysterious family. Archer is the golden boy that seems to care for Jaz but betrays her in the end. I can not wait to see what develops between them. She also becomes interested in the private investigator, Jacob, that she hires to help solve the mystery of her mother's employer and Vaughn's family. I am so excited to see how these relationships develop. All three men are hot and sexy but I am not sure they all have her best interests at heart and that remains to be seen.
The twist at the end surprised me and I really love that in a book. I can not wait for the next book. to see where this talented author will take these characters. This was a fantastic read, I was captivated throughout the entire story and did not want to put it down to eat, sleep or work. You need to read this book now!!!!
I'm not sure how I feel about this book, so no star rating right now. I guess this book intertwines with another series??? I kind of wish that was put in because this book feels all over the place. This read really simply and I don't really mean that in a great way. Sentences were really short a lot of the times and it honestly felt like the FMC was just nosey. This didn't seem like a mystery that needed solving. I get trying to do a buildup but I don't feel like it was well done. I found myself saying "who cares?" a lot. I also felt like the inner monologue was so repetitive and overdone. Give me conversation! I need something that grabs my attention and wanting to eat up more words but with the changing of all the characters I don't even know the storyline. We're supposed to care about Celeste Chambers. Why? We're supposed to card about the guy's wife and kids. Why? What actions were shown to be suspicious about? Nothing until she picks a lock and eavesdrops. Which she did out of really no need to. I feel like if she were to start hearing little things as she goes it would have made more sense because then you want to urge the character to move forward to find something out. Idk. I'll go into the second book because the end was something that could actually fit. So far, I'm not a fan though.
Overall, I thought this story took a decent amount of time to develop the characters and drama. The pacing was a little uneven at times—I think this was caused by going backwards in time when switching POVs for certain chapters. I don't mind shifting POVs generally, but I prefer totally new content for it.
Also, I would have preferred a little less inner monologues about the MMCs' looks, especially when they interrupted the action. And after the big drama near the end, when the FMC is with the private investigator, it felt illogical to get paragraphs dedicated to his looks and her intense anxiety over being perceived as a child when she was so sick.
I found it very interesting that one of the potential MMCs isn't introduced until the very end! It was a good way to end with a surprise and is the kind of cliffhanger that I enjoy immensely.
Have to say, I feel bad for Archer after starting the next book, but I still hate his guts. I'm totally hoping he gets booted from the harem.
The spice level was fairly mild, with one brief sex scene, various dirty daydreams, and a make out session. This book is connected to Riot by the same author, but I haven't read it and didn't feel like I was missing too much. Although, I don't think it is pointed out that Celeste and the twins are stepsiblings, not half-siblings, so that was a bit muddled until I read the synopsis of Riot.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Candace is the queen at writing dark, angsty and sexy killer novels! All I can say is buckle up cause this series is going to be one wild ride!
I love how it picks up years after Sins. I was desperately wanting more info on Ollie after that ending in Sins and I’m finally getting it.
Jaz is our FMC and she’s just moved and is enrolling in at the notorious MidPark High. Her mom landed a job as a live in maid to the Uber Rich Lawyer Oliver Fitzpatrick, so they pack up and leave with out any contact with friends that were left behind.
To say Feisty didn’t have me sucked in and asking five million and three questions from the very beginning is an understatement. That cliffhanger at the end still has me wanting to throw my phone across the room or message Candace for an explanation, but that’s how Candace rolls she keeps us on edge throughout the whole series and then BAM you’re knocked on your a** with an epic ending!
This series is not one you are going to want to miss out on! If you’ve read Sins then one click this baby ASAP. If you’re new then I highly recommend you read Sins first because there will references made throughout that pertain to Sins. Happy reading and I’ll see you on the other end of the rabbit hole.
A new life, a new school and two very different guys catch her eye. The easy going possible jock, and the moody tattooed outsider.
They both see her, know she's different and realise they should stay away, but there's just something about her.
Would one taste, one kiss really matter, or would it be the start of the end?
A new book, a new series oh gosh the excitement and anticipation almost killed me!
I didn't know what to expect with this having only read one other series by Candace Wondrak, and that made it all the sweeter.
I loved that the obvious route was avoided, and the unexpected took me by suprise. Not many books can do that these days so it was refreshing, and more than welcome!
Jaz tries to be a tough cookie and her take no prisoners attitude was fantastic. She might hide it well but she's quite insecure and lost on the inside.
Vaughn and Archer have my full attention! the bad boy and the golden god I want to know more more more!
Jacob is quite the mystery too. I have so many questions that I need answering, and I can't wait to spend more time with them all.
An intriguing introduction, bring on the darkness I say!
This book feels like an appetizer. Just a little taster to warm up the appetite. It was a little slow for me, but still intriguing though I have no idea where it's going. I'm hungry for more, all the way to dessert.
Jaz and her mom are new in town. Her mom is a maid for some rich lawyer dude and she's sent to a fancy rich kid school. She's clearly out of her element because her clothes are cheap and her attitude is feisty. She meets some interesting characters, especially cute boys, but there's a something weird lurking beneath the surface of this town. Who is the man her mother works for and where is his family? Time to grab the Scooby snacks, gang, and hop in the Mystery Machine.
There's a bully aspect and supposedly a reverse harem in this book, but not really? There's just a lot of mystery and secrets...and I sort of know some of them because of the Cruel Black Hearts Series I read a couple of weeks a go. But, still. I feel like something's about to kick off soon. So rather than continue writing this lame review and hypothesizing the future, I'll start the second book instead. Smooches!
Against my better judgement, I binged this book, finished it in a measly few hours and don't know whether I should regret my decision or not. Why? Because the book hangover is REAL. This is another book in the Midpark universe, which is now basically my favourite book universe. I can't help but love the entire setup around the Family and its members.
Feisty doesn't only introduce us to some new characters, but we also get to meet some people we've met in the other books and series that are set in this same universe.
I could write an extensive review with all my theories and emotions and what else I noticed in this book, but I do not want to go too deep into spoiler territory because it would ruin all the fun and boy... this book had me feeling all sorts of emotions. I went from awe, to lust, to stabby, to vindictive, to love, to volatile in the blink of an eye. It was sheer perfection.
I really tried but I can't continue a book if I hate the FMC and I dislike Jaz so much. Jaz's mom insisted they pack up and leave everything behind for reasons unknown. Now Jaz has enrolled in a private school for the elite while her mom works as a living in maid for a lawyer who lost his family. Jaz spent the entire time bitter and ungrateful. Every though in her head was jealousy over students being able to afford stuff and have friends. But when anyone tried to speak to her, she'd have her walls up and give unfriendly replies. For no reason Jaz starts assuming that Ollie had something to do with some girl's disappearance years ago or that he must've killed his family. She becomes obsessed with investigating and snooping around his office, again for no reason. I honestly think she's mentally ill and don't care to read more about her. She was that unlikable. Didn't feel any connection to Vaughn or Archer. Shame. I usually like CW's books.
Candace wondrak never ever disappoints with her books and this was an amazing first book of a series. I loved how it has characters from sins in it and of course not forgetting the Scott family who I just can’t get enough of.
We meet jaz who has had to leave her life behind to move with her mum to Midpark for her mums new job is Jaz going to fit in there ?
It’s going to very interesting how Jaz character will grow because she has been lied to betrayed and she wants to no the truth about what happen to Oliver Fitzpatrick family. But she also wants revenge
It ends on a cliffhanger and wow can’t wait to find out more about Dante
I didn’t want the book to end and I so need the second book as I was grip right from the start of this book it full of betrayal, lies , and secrets it’s a must read but to understand some of the character you might want to read sins first

The characters are written amazing and one of my favorite crazy cop makes an appearance and I’m sure he is around to stay.
The world/story building is excellent. I strongly recommend reading Sins by this author as that story plays in the background of this one. The characters were freaking amazing! The dang cliffy… not amazing but it definitely builds you up to want to keep reading!
Definitely dark and twisted which I freaking love!

Feisty: A High School Blly Romance (Midpark High Book 1)
Another story that is set in Midpark. Man this place is crawling with so many psychos, but they are beautiful psychopaths. Candace Wondrak has a way of writing these crazy men and woman that would make the average person run away but with these characters you just want to run right into their arms. Crazy be damned. They are obsessive, possessive, unable to see right from wrong at times but they love and when they do, it is with all they have. This is just the beginning of the series so not really dark but with that cliffhanger you can feel the darkness coming and it is going to be so much fun seeing where this will go. Super excited to see returning characters from other series popping up here and there.
Omg what a book, this has it all. All throughout the book we get thrown into many twists and turns that make this an epic read. We see Jaz move into Oliver Fitzpatrick's house due to her mum becoming his new housekeeper. This book is also told from several p.o.v's which gives the book more depth and gives us more information from behind the scenes that Jaz doesn't know about. We see Jaz make a huge mistake that bites her in the bum later on in the book through no fault of her own. Then to leave the book on a major cliff hanger when Dante arrives. Not going to say anything more than that or I will give away the book, and its definitely worth you picking up and reading yourself.
From the start I was a little lost, but only because it seemed like I didn't have the whole picture... of course then I find out she doesn't have the whole picture either.. so go me, I'm right there in the book with her! Moving during your senior year bites for anyone, but to move to an all rich school.. ugh i totally felt for Jaz. Jaz is an outsider to Midpark, senior with six months to go before graduation. Two worlds collide in this book and right now I'm diving into book 2 to see where all this is gonna lead...
This author has done it again! I am literally in awe of her talents, taking such dark and twisted characters and making them beautiful in every story. This story had me up in to the early morning hours to finish and even then i was ready to start the next book! It keeps you intrigued with so many possibilities to come. I also love al the cross over characters from other books. Gives you a quick insight on how some of you favorite characters are holding up now!
Welcome back to midpark. If you've read another of candace's books Sins then you will recognize some of these characters. Leaving her past life behind suddenly Jaz moves to midpark with her mother. Finding out about mysterious disappearances she starts to get involved to find out the truth.
If you like suspense, mystery, betrayal, drama and hot steamy boys this is the book for you. 5 stars A must read
OMG!!!! This was so freaking good. This book has the same feel as Hillcrest, but there is a lot of Sins aftermath. So many references to her best books. The main character is likable, innocent and naive but tries to be tough. Jacob ends up being a very likable character and Vaughn is the best, weird and mysterious. I can't wait to see more of Jacob and Vaughn. I hope to see more of Travis, Lincoln, and Marcus, but Vaughn is a great new Scotts character!
This was a pretty good story. Some parts annoyed me, mostly where she wouldn’t stick up for herself at certain times or things left unsaid, but overall I enjoyed the characters. Although Archer is a bit of a mystery still... There was also a little too much inner-monologue at times, but I’m thoroughly enjoying the plot and mystery! It’s an exciting read and I’m looking forward to the next book!
I had, to be honest, that for at least a year I haven't read such a great book. As a bookworm, I know all the stories in the world even though this particular story thrilled me. It's not the typical bully type of book. There is a mystery which the reader wants to know all about, what is more, there are amazing man characters which make this book even more sensational. I'm going to read all series!
An interesting read- I've read a few of Candace's other series (featuring the Scott family) as well as Sins, which is Celeste's story, so I understood that whole part of the book. What I didn't get was why they had to move and why Jaz's mom was so protective over her...though you get an idea of it at the end of the book with Dante's POV. Archer was pretty awful here too and his story is still a mystery to me too. Guess it's time for book 2!
I don't know what to say! This was one crazy and sexy book. The angst. The building chemistry of Jaz with Vaughn and also Jacob. There's more to the eye when it comes to Archer and I need to know what it is. He keeps saying he's danger and i cant but think he is linked to the Scott family. I need answers!
3.5 stars I'm in two minds about this book, not sure if I liked it or not. I felt like something was missing and I didn't feel a connection between Jaz and the other guys. I'll read book 2 when that releases and maybe my view will change, all the questions I have will hopefully be answered.
