Welcome to Diablo Falls, the town where anything can happen. Built on magic by an ancient coven, it draws all sorts to its quaint streets—shifters, vampires, fae, and more, including a baby witch who has no idea what she is or what she’s capable of…

Ebony Case’s only goal when she hits the road is to get away from her cheating boyfriend and to find solace in the tiny town of Diablo Falls, a place her grandmother once lived and she remembers visiting as a child. But car trouble and a freak snowstorm leave her stranded and exposed in the wilderness with no way to contact help.

Vampire and Diablo Falls resident tarot reader Max Orloff knows when his cards give him a sign, he has to act. They send him into the woods during a freak weather event when the temperatures skyrocket, threatening to melt the snow and cause massive flooding and landslides. When he finds Ebony, he immediately realizes she is the source of the magically warm-up but she’s complete unaware of her powers or that she’s causing it.

Ebony is reluctant to believe his claim that she’s a witch, but after finally observing her powers and seeking help from one of the town’s resident witches, she is forced to not only accept her true birthright but also her growing attraction to the vampire who saved her life.

Good premise but all over the place
This story is supposed to center around Ebony, who doesn't realize she's a with and Malcolm, a vampire. There's a good basis for a story her but it's all over the place. Moving from one side character to another. Probably with details that aren't necessary to the main storyline. It just felt disjointed, no real POV coming through. Kind of felt like notes or an outline to the story. The cover model didn't match the character description and that was kind of a let down. Along with the title not feeling like it fit.

Weathering the storm
This story was very good. It was written in a weird kind of first person manner, so it was a little difficult to fall into the story. But I was still invested from the very beginning. The author did a great job of building the story and creating a HEA that is sure to make you smile. I look forward to the next book by this author.

This is a quick but great read. I love this new series about town of paranormal creatures. I love reading anything by this author.

Ebony thought everything was going great in her life when she catches her boyfriend in bed with another woman. She leaves and heads to Diablo Falls where her grandmother took her when she was little. Malcolm is a vampire who runs a mystic shop. He is drawn to the forest one night. Ebony's car breaks down and she heads to the forest. The weather is acting out of the norm. It is up to Malcolm to help Ebony discover her powers. Will they be able to figure things out and get the weather back to normal?

First Fangs by Zara Zenia a five-star read that will nibble your heart. This is a stand-alone in the Diablo Falls series, if you like your stories with a paranormal twist then you can’t go wrong with this series. This is also my first by this author, she popped up in Flirt Club, I am so thankful to the Flirt Club for introducing me to Bite Club. In a series of firsts this one was my favourite, there was something about Ebony and her journey that just blew me away in the best way possible.

Don’t

At first it was okay, but then it turned horrible and barely readable. It was way too much ‘telling’ and not enough showing. The characters were always explaining things and side characters were introduced just to be introduced. The characters didn’t really react to anything. If something happened one character would say what the other did and moved on. (Like she did this and we went over here)

I really hope the other bite club books are better.

This book was stilted the flow of the authors writing was just not good at all and it just did not flow seamlessly.

The characters well especially Ebony came across as a child.

Then a character dies which was super sensless and made no sense.

And the ending was super abrupt no epilogue and im sorry as this review is super harsh but the book was just meh.

My first disappoinment from this author
This book just didn't have what I'm used to from Zara Zenia. It explained things rather than showed.
It was an interesting premise but just didn't follow through with the excitement of the characters and
action I am used to with her books. Malcolm was an interesting character, he helped me get through the story but I am sorry, I wouldn't recommend it.

I love when authors add stand-alones into already active series. This one is part of the Diablo Falls world and has plenty of paranormal twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book

3 stars overall, 2 stars story, 4 stars narration
Underwhelming and not much of a romance

The audiobook description made it sound like a great paranormal romance short story, and I was really looking forward to listening. However, I found the writing to be unpolished with poor quality dialogue and underdeveloped characters. The romance was nearly nonexistent, and the vampire hero didn’t even seem like a vampire. Even for a romance short story only 1.25 hours long, romantic interactions between the two main characters should take more than fifteen total minutes of the story. I did like the moderately steamy love scene and the magical abilities of the characters. The third person perspective alternated between the two main characters.

The experienced narrator, Sophie James, did the best job possible with the material. She gave a very good performance. It was expressive, pleasant to the ear, and had great pacing. I personally did not prefer the voice she made for the hero, but other listeners will probably like it.

I requested and received a free audiobook copy via #AudiobookObsession, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Hasty retreat was her only thought, Diablo Falls her destination, but is this the same town she remembers in her fond memories with her grandmother, well listen along as Sophie tells you about this community founded by an ancient coven

It may be that the narrator was horrible but I could not get into this book. The entire book made me cringe and frown. I enjoyed the synopsis better than the actual book.

Ebony thought her life was perfect until she walked in on her man with another woman. She has now gone back to where she found comfort and her life changes quickly. She finds out that she is the cause of the strange weather and must come to the conclusion that it's her and the power that she didn't know she had.

Ebony Case was eagerly heading home to her boyfriend, Brian Massey who was a college professor. She felt he was her soulmate and they had just moved in together. But opening the bedroom door, Ebony saw her lover enjoying one of his students! The girl threw on her undergarments, a coat, and ran out the door. As Brian was trying to apologize, pots and pans from the kitchen flew at him and knocked him to the floor! Ebony didn’t care and just got in her car and left. The only destination she could think of was in the mountains, Diablo Falls, a town where her grandmother lived and she had visited as a child. Almost to her destination, the car broke down, a storm was fast approaching, and there was no cell service to call for help. She was just a regular girl with no witchy powers, so deciding that being here might help her discover who she really is, she began walking.

Malcolm Orloff was a psychically gifted vampire who read tarot cards and worked in a mystic shop in town. His cards led him to go into the woods immediately where he finds Ebony and realizes her powers are causing the strange weather fluctuation. With a little help from a town witch, Ebony is ready to accept her witchy birthright and explore her interest in the vampire who rescued her. Do they have a HEA ahead? Has Ebony found her destiny and the place she truly belongs?

I was reading along about Ebony’s escape to the mountains, when it felt like a tour guide popped into the seat beside her! The emotional line that “her heart was shattered” was immediately followed by several paragraphs of a factual breakdown of where this place was located, what surrounded it, the population, hiking trails and other activities for the tourist industry, cultural events, places to stay, the blood bank, and on and on – this text was placed in a totally wrong place in the book, and probably not even needed at all to move the story along. Continuity was lacking in other places too, such as birds twittering at night. Regardless, the incongruent interruption of topic took me right out of the story! But ignoring that, the story line moved along, sometimes like a laundry list without much feeling, and it was interesting to meet some of the town’s residents. There is potential here, but giving us a list of facts sucks out the emotions rather than showing us with dialog and action and letting us feel the story for ourselves.

This was a delightful story to read. I like stories where different beings all get alone. In this story you are introduce to all types, fae, trolls, vampires, witches, shifters, and more. They all worked and played together without anyone getting hurt.

Ebony was in a relationship with what she thought was her soulmate, at least until she walked into their bedroom and caught him with a 20 year old student of his. She ran. She didn't know what she wanted to do so she decided to go to Diablo Falls where her grandmother told her so many stories about. She knew that electronic things went wonky around there, probably because of so many magic lea lines. But her car hadn't made it to town when it just died. So she got out and started walking through the woods. While she was walking first there was rain, then snow and the temperatures started to drop. She found a cave to get in to get out of the weather. She started to think about things that got her angry and wanted to get warm and dry and the temperatures starting to rise. When they were in the 70's, she was able to not freeze and kept walking down the mountain. She met a very good looking man along the way who just so happened to be looking for her.

Malcolm was a 76 year old vampire. He read tarot cards and drank bagged blood, to everyone's delight. He had a bit of psychic abilities and when he felt that he was needed and it was very urgent, he locked up shop and went looking, along with the search and rescue shifters. With the weather being too warm for the time of year, it could melt the snow on the mountains and cause flooding and mudslides. When he found Ebony, he knew she was a witch, and a very powerful witch to control the weather like this. The bad side was that she didn't even believe that she was a witch, let alone for being responsible for the weather and the danger it will be causing soon. He took her around to convince her and introducing her to some of the variety of people in town.

A quick read.

I liked Ebony and Max. If the storyboard focused mainly on them, I would have liked this better. There were too many characters in here for A short story. Also, there were too many other sub-plots and information in this story. I felt it needed to be streamlined.

Narrator is okay. A little too dainty sounding, but she did a clear performance. Her male voice was a little weird, but she did a good job of changing her voice. Overall, a good performance.

Love the setup for this story and the premise is fun. Ebony’s boyfriend cheats on her and then her cars has issues so she’s stranded. Luckily, tarot card reader/vampire, Max, helps her out. Enjoyed the magical aspects; Diablo Falls sounds like a fun supernatural town, and the different supernaturals involved in this story added some fun elements to the story. Ebony not knowing she was a witch was interesting; she did deny it a bit too much for my liking, but it was entertaining.

This is a very short story; which is fine, I’ve read some really great short stories. This one started out great and at a good pace, but then it was just so rushed. It was like the author zoomed through it so they could meet their deadline or something like that. Ebony was belly aching about the love of her life/soulmate cheating on her than barely any time later she’s hopping up on Max. The whole 2nd half of this story was just too rushed for this to be a successful short story. I’m going to be generous with a 3 star because the audio was good, but I’m going to pass on any other books by Zara Zenia.

Ebony was going home after a long day she was looking forward to seeing the love of her life Brian when Ebony went into the bedroom her heart stopped Brian was in bed with another woman and she looked like one of his students, Ebony had tears streaming down her face and she was so angry then a pot from the kitchen came flying in and hit Brian in the head and he started bleeding but Ebony didn’t care she turned around got her car keys and headed to the only place she could go and that’s Diablo Falls where her grandmother loved so off she went. Part way there her car broke down and now a storm is coming but what Ebony didn’t know at the time is that she was causing the storm, she tried to use her phone but there was no service so she started walking towards town but she ended up getting lost. Malcolm is a vampire who lives in Diablo Falls he’s psychically gifted with a talent for reading tarot cards he loves his job, Malcolm cleared his mind and went into a trance he knew something was wrong so he read his tarot cards and they told him that he needed to go to the woods he doesn’t know why so he locked up the shop and stepped outside the Storm was getting worse but he went to the woods to find out what was going on. That’s all I’m going to give you guys but this is just the beginning of an amazing story I loved it and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

I like the premise of this, a vampire and a witch who doesn't know she's a witch, but the execution wasn't quite there. I had a bit of a harder time following the story. There were side characters introduced that I didn't feel were necessary.

That was delightful! Fast moving and a quick read! Perfect for a lunch hour or a couple hours in the park! The story line moves fast and connects on a personal level if you've ever been jilted! The story is all about the shock, getting lost, rethinking the whole thing and then finding the strength to move on...something we all do at one point or another. I would enjoy reading more about Ebony and Malcolm and the town of Diablo Falls. It'd be great if there were more stories about the town and it's residents and Ebony learning about her powers.

Hold on because this short story is very fast ride that just gets right to the point. To me this is good for those times when you need the meat of the story to focus solely on the main characters without the potatoes aka drama. Another advantage to this quick story is there isn't a dull moment. Malcolm is patient and kind and she definitely quickly figures out what she wants. Interesting and entertaining series starter, looking forward to what's second, hope to read more on these two and how she grows into her heritage. Another short story about the paranormal Diablo Falls. This one took me a bit to get into it, but it got better. Ebony needed to get away and as she gets closer to Diablo things start to go strange, her car breaks down and the weather is acting strange. Malcolm is a vampire and when he meets Ebony he realizes that she is a witch and is the one causing the weather to act up. Will she believe him and try to get a handle on things? Or will she turn and run away?

For such a short read it definitely got right to the point. I mean it's a good read good premise but it was all over the place. The story is supposed to be center around Ebony, who doesn't realize that she a powerful witch. I would've like a little bit more information on Ebony 's family. Also things felt kinda rush like things needed to be expanded. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

This is an entertaining, quick-read paranormal witch/vampire romance. The two main characters (Ebony Case, who apparently is a witch) & (Malcolm Orloff, a vampire & psychic), are interesting & well-developed with realistic emotional feelings & reactions. The plot is well-written, intriguing & entertaining.
There is: fae, vampires, shifters, witches, some twists, intrigue, drama, magic, deceit, betrayal, emotional turmoil, memories, confusion, vulnerability, attractions, promises, love and a sweet HEA.
