This book opens with a note from the author describing it as a story about “regular folks placed in an unthinkable situation.”

Nothing about the main characters are “regular,” including our star ex-cop, doomsday prepping, youth bashing, anti-corporate, former cybersecurity specialist who talks multiple times about obvious security flaws at the nuclear plant and being fired for speaking out.

He does find a 15 year old girl who grows to be his pseudo daughter. She would be “regular” as well, except for having far more survivalist expertise than the regular man described above.

I blasted through this book not because it was gripping, but thanks to its simple and repetitive vocabulary paired with my hope that each page turn would flip the script of mediocrity.

The book was clearly written for the average gun-slinging, right wing dude bro. If that isn’t you, consider if your time may be better spent doing literally anything else.

Storyline wise, pretty typical apocalypse book - loss of power, separated family, immediate chaos. I did enjoy the nuclear power plant addition, though more could have definitely been done with it.

The main character and his travel companion have wayyyyyyy too much plot armor. And don’t get me started on the immediate loyalty of a stray wolf after just a few hours together. The losses of people so far has been pretty distant emotionally so that’s also been disappointing

Brilliant.

Really really loved this book and the characters were brilliant I really connected with them. We follow Nate and Dakota and the story is a good one, they have to look out for radiation to poisoning, the weather is terrible with thick snow and storms that make the roads impassable and then to top it all are the people who come out when there are no police about to stop them. All he wants to do is find his family and stay alive, it's becoming very complicated. Well written and the story rarely lets up. I'm biting the bullet and going on to read the next book System Failure.

okay story

Easy to read, but not really dependent on terribly impacted by anything post-apocalyptic. There’s not enough there to compel me to read any further in the series.

In general a decent book that kept my attention. However, I don't think the writing or storyline is anything earth shattering.

America Offline is a thrilling post-apocalyptic story with a gripping and engaging plot. The severity of a cyberattack with the precise timing and during a relentless winter storm sets off a domino effect of one catastrophe after another. The loss of resources and the magnitude of the attack has a crumbling impact on the fabric of society, thus resulting in a total collapse.

The build-up of intensity is terrific, with a high degree of unpredictability and action. The characters are phenomenally developed, ordinary, and authentic; both their interaction and the dialog are natural. The storyline is engaging, centering around, Nate Bauer, a prepper and his wife Amy, who happens to be pregnant, and their survival as the world they know crumble around them. Despite being a prepper, Nate finds himself challenged, dealing with uncertainty in his plans, and a situation that is going fast out of control.

Gary Tiedemann does an outstanding job with the narration, injecting the emotions and intensity found in the pages, bringing the story to life. The series is intriguing with a different take on this genre, one I highly recommend. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

It’s ok, it borrow a lot from other things such as the last of us, world war Z, and really any other post apocalyptic setting. As a whole it’s a decent job but not unique on its own.

The premise on the back says “For hidden deep within the malignant code lies an even greater threat” but that’s never even referred to or referenced. The whole Stuxnet like virus that shutdown the whole country is only briefly touched on. The rest of the book is typical apocalyptic survival of where people are the worst enemy.

This was a fun, quick read that has me chomping at the bit to get to part two! It appears the entire country has gone dark and Nate must help his pregnant wife and his in-laws survive the collapse. There's also a snow storm slamming into Illinois making Nate's travels more difficult. A lot of surprises along the way for such a short book, but it was enjoyable nonetheless!

P.S. This was my 200th book read on GoodReads!!! Yay! I think I'll have a beer.

I found it to be an easy read and very entertaining. As I get older and my eye sight not what it used to be, I found the font to be perfect. I know this could be resolved with a digital devices, but I enjoy reading from a book. I was reading it pretty much every day - a little at a time. I liked the transistion to the next book and I'm about 1/2 completed with that book. I now may research the other series that Mr. Weber has written and line up the next book to read.

Started out full of hope

Mr. Weber started his novel off very well. He developed a very believable character and a very plausible setting. The book continued in this way until about the last 20%. The decisions made by the main character became unrealistic and not consistent with the previous development. I have bout book 2 in the hope that these unnecessary diversions are kept to a minimum. there is always hope.

A real good read

This is an exciting read. I recommend for people to read this book and get a taste of what life could be like in the near future, if there is a massive cyber attack. I decided to read this book because of all that I learned while doing my major research paper for English; I’m glad I did. An exciting read exciting read

Great book, fast read. I liked that the book is a survival story but the author doesn’t go on and on about the tools and guns and survival hacks. I don’t like books that go in horrid detail on stuff, I just want the story and this fit that perfectly. Will be reading the second one ASAP.

Good book unfortunately it may become non fiction

This is a great read. I believe it could happen today. We are so unprepared for our enemies tactic just like 911 we were warned and blew it.off.

America Offline

Love the family interaction. Also the girl being rescued, plus the druggies are no more. I believe people will turn
N on each other, worse than they do now, yesterday a mother & her 24 month old baby were shot at in West Palm Beach. People need God in their lives.

Commitment

When Mate set out to do something he was committed. Each additional adversary they encounter. Sent them down a different path. Always the end destination to catch up to his family.

Decent start on an apocalypse series

This is the 2nd series of William H Webers' that I've started. This one about what would happen if our nuclear power plants were hacked into meltdown. I hope he continues past the four books in the other series.

The characters are interesting and we are slowly finding out more about the main character. The storyline is good and somewhat engaging. I enjoyed this book enough to try the second from the series.

This story really gives you a look at what could, realistically, happen if we lost the power grid. how would you survive? Do you go, do you stay, do you search for family, or for safer places? What do you do? How do you do it? And what happens with your neighbors? It makes you think!

Enjoyable

It hooked me right away, with likeable characters and a mostly plausible plot. For me, the most important thing is whether or not I care about the characters, if not, why read the book? These, I did want to see what would happen to them.

The Best

Finally, a delicious read without mounds of annoying blatherings. Weber is awesome, but outdid himself on this one. I can’t wait to get into the second book of America Offline series.
