Quade Westmoreland's one-night love affair with Cheyenne had branded him body and soul, but he'd never even learned her last name. Almost a year later, driven by memories and one incriminating photo, the sexy operative had finally tracked her down—and discovered three little babies bearing his features. Learning he was a father made Quade even more he would claim Cheyenne Steele in every way. Shockingly, the irresistible beauty seemed intent on resisting him. But the Westmoreland destiny was at stake, and Quade would fight for what was his.…

I’m angry. I gave this book away several years ago however when I saw it at my friends house I thought wow I haven’t’ read this book. She told me it was my book that I gave her years ago. So guess what, I borrowed my book that I read years ago to re-read the book. So here I sit angry because I didn’t like the book then and I don’t like the book now. The story was too too too too unbelievable. Cheyenne meets Quade in another country in which they never exchanged last names but yet they exchange body fluid (I know it’s fantasy but come on), they sleep together and he doesn’t see her again until 10 months later when she’s on a cover of a magazine --- pregnant. The majority of the book takes place in like 48 hours and by the end of the 48 hours they love each other. Get (or should I say GIT) out of here with this waste of my time garbage. No wonder I gave the book away when my friend already had a copy. I just didn’t like it.
Another thing this seems to bother me is the fact that most authors don’t know how to transition well. If you have a series of books please do not give me a four page summary of the previous characters book. I don’t care and if I do, then I should have bought that book.
Initial Thoughts: Let me start by saying that I am really enjoying this book. I just started yesterday but I like that there is a story line and more to it than just sex. The sex that has happened so far has been great. Here's my issue: I'm on chapter five and If I hear one more time "I'm a Westmoreland" or "That's what Westmorelands do" or "you've never been with a Westmoreland" I'm going to scream.
Update: I'm done. Very good read however I can only give it three stars because there simply was not enough meat. Also some parts of it were just unrealistic. What I did like was how Quade cared for the babies immediately. Also, when the crisis happened he was there to bring stability.
Fun read if you need something simple and quick. This did not encourage me to read another one of Ms. Jackson's novels however. I'm off to to find something that will stimulate my brain. This was a very nice and needed break from reality.
Update: having read every Westmoreland novel I went back and reread this one. The pronouncement of "I'm a Westmoreland" and "That's what Westmorelands do" still very annoying, but a little bit more understandable after having read the rest of the series. I still found it a joke the way these two fell in love however I understand that this is the author's pattern. In some books We do actually get to see a relationship develop. This is very rare however. Unfortunately this is not one of the books where that happens. I enjoyed the book a little bit more the second time around.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Oh my God! O don't know if I want to laugh or cry!!! the writing isn't very good and, as I expected, the plot is soooo dumb and extra cheesy.. and what's with all the name dropping?, so many people that had nothing to do with the story, seriously!
I can't even begin to understand how a model can be also working for the Secret Service, I mean, yeah, it would be a really, REAAAALLY good cover but I still don't buy it, especially when the girl in question is Cheyenne, who freaked out in a crisis and is a total doormat.
ooooooh but nothing compares to Quade who's hung like a horse, I think his dick actually pushes at your lungs when you have sex with him, the poor guy is so big that he can't fit in the biggest condoms available, they just burst when he's "engorged"... but even more impressive than that is his super powerful seed, he spills buckets of his über fertile sperm when he comes and you can feel the condom inflating like a ballon! aaaaand it can even nullify the effects of the pill... HOLY CRAAAAAAAAAP!!!
With one look Quade Westmoreland knew that there was a strange chemistry between him and Cheyenne. Not one to go for one night stands, neither one can deny the desire brewing between them and give into a night of heated passion.
Quade has not been able to get the images of that one night of his head, but duty called. Now that he has retired from his government position, he sees a picture of Cheyenne on the cover of a magazine, a very pregnant Cheyenne. Doing the math, Quade realizes there is a strong possibility he is a father, to not one baby but three. Quade is determined to have the four of them take the Westmoreland name, but Cheyenne has no plans to marry just because he feels it is the right thing to do.
This was a sweet story, a little quickly paced so you don't really get a sense that they know each other that well. A little to accepting of the circumstances to make it believable. Had some charm though and Quade is definitly on a mission to win Cheyenne's heart.
I love the Westmoreland's, but I often find the depth and the length of these novels lacking. Unfortunately they're NOT long enough to develop a real bond with the characters. Everything seems to happen TOO fast and you never really get to see the WHOLE picture, at least not like with her Madaris series. However, that being said, I still love the passion and INTENSITY of this family/series. When they love the definitely love hard. And their close ties with one another makes you want to be a CAUGHT UP in the midst of their ever-growing circle of family and friends. Mrs. Jackson continuously brings the sizzlin' FIRE and DESIRE, it practically leaps off the pages of each of her novels, which is why I ALWAYS read her novels, long or short!
To be completely honest, the story was only moderately intriguing. I only kept reading "Quade's Babies" because I was desperately seeking a point of contention between the main characters, Quade and Cheyenne. The tale is a bit all over the place. Cheyenne is only 24, but has a career as a successful model turned secret agent? Did Brenda Jackson really write this foolishness? The novella is incredibly short, even for a romance novel, and is only good for the insight it adds into the stories of the other Westmorelands...the interesting ones. "Quade's Babies" just falls short. There was an excellent storyline and Jackson didn't meet my expectations. But that was nearly a given in the title, which sucks as much as the book.
The bits about Cheyenne and her pregnancy in her sister Taylor's book (Irresistible Forces) intrigued me enough to make me seek out her story. I was hoping for some actual story but all we get is blather about the hero's sense of responsibility and some sex. I think more could have been done with these characters. Also, one major issue I have with the supposed romance between these two is their age gap. Cheyenne's self- assertion and shadowy career would've been more believable if she were closer to 30 than 20 - and that would have made her seem more able to match and hold her own against her super alpha baby daddy.
Brenda has been my pandemic author. Her books are mainly category and are not too much for my brain to handle at a time. This edition in the Westmoreland saga was soooo boring except for the sex scenes. The characters didn’t have much conflict or stakes.
Their lust translated to love quite quickly making the HEA so meh. 😐
The authors spent so much time mentioning other family members that the exposition became tiresome. I get that it’s a series, but focus on the main couple!
Nothing else to say but I somehow finished it, just to feel something during this boring year of quarantine.
I'm so behind on this series it's not even funny. I dived into this one without reading the back, just knowing it's a Westmoreland book and that's all I needed. This one of the family saga is a crossover book between the Westmorelands and the Steels which is another family saga Brenda writes. I haven't read that one so I wasn't as invested in the back characters that showed up and now I'm going to go read their stories as well, I mean it was on the to do list but now they have moved all the way up.
This is a second chance romance, Cheyenne and Quade met overseas and had a brief affair. Cut to a eleven months later, Quade is looking at a pregnancy magazine in his sister's home and on the cover is a heavily pregnant Cheyenne, he does some digging to find out who she is and where she is and goes on the hunt to find out if this is his baby.
Cheyenne in the meantime decided not to search for the man who she had that brief affair with and is going to raise her babies in Jamaica, but is staying the states close to family until the children are a little older and she's gotten a handle on being a single mom. With the door bell ring, all of those plans come crashing down because on the other side is her baby's father. And he's got questions.
I loved that Cheyenne was a strong independent woman, that she had more depth than even her family knew about. As she had a good career and used her privilege to do more than anyone knew. I loved that they had such a strong connection, it was tangible and left off the pages, I was excited to see them come back together and not just remember. This story is told from both of their points of view with lots of flashbacks explaining how they met, what happened and how the affair ended.
Very steamy and now I want to go read the siblings stories and fall in love with all the family, because omigosh I loved how they loved her and how they were all about making sure she was safe, even if it smothered her sometimes.
Very quick read and another great love story.
★★★1/2 Happy Reading my loves, and don't forget to check out the other books in the series.
This is a love at first sight story! The author brings two strangers together with love & passion. Not planning to see each other again, they get a surprise of their life that ties them together forever. I love how this story embarks on the journey of acting on passion. Great Read!
Another Ron Butler audiobook- and man do I love when he's reading the male's thoughts/dialogue. [The deep voice!]
Anyway - CROSSOVER BOOK! :P Quade and Cheyenne >.> I dunno if it is or not so
minor pet peeve but sadly it REALLY stood out; both times I read it. The first time I read it it bothered me a long time but the rest distracted me - but the second time it stuck out enough that it's still annoying me; and it's a relatively minor writing/editing error - but that it's SO SIMPLE is rjgesrgjes;ogkes;gkesr;gkoensg [and I mean I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm not]=> Cheyenne lies to Quade about her age when they first meet; she says she's 28 but she's actually 23. Which, whatever. [She's officially 24 "when the book starts"/by the time she has the triplets. But - it also says she hasn't had sex in four years - that she slept with one guy in college, and then after that one dude at a TV station where she worked. It never mentions she skipped grades or anything - I THINK it said she left home at 18 for college... so .... if she was 23, and hadn't had sex in 4 years, she would've been 19. ... Which would cover the college guy, but not the guy post college. It just seems they were basing the "no sex in 4 years" on her "I'm 28!" thing - but that was a lie! So ... [Just... yes, clearly it's a minor thing. But like also - so basic. So so basic.]
ARGH.
Anyway - I liked that Cheyenne pushed back on Quade.
She was a little bit too independent in the whole "I don't need a nanny or ANY help to take care of THREE newborns" O_o like ... even regular people - even regular COUPLES are totally worn out by taking care of one newborn. Much less two. Or three. [>.> maybe this was the "difficult heroine" compilation?] But! She's not BRATTY about it - and she is grateful for Quade's help. [She also lucked out in that the very first time she's all alone Quade pops up]
Reflecting on it - it might be the near insta-love [ugh i hate that word/phrase] that happens; cuz they hooked up in Egypt, and literally just had sex for 10 hours then split, never expecting to meet ever again.
But clearly Cheyenne has their babies.
OH! What also bothered me; she freaking DOES A COVERSHOOT - she's ON THE COVER OF A MAGAZINE - and is like "how did you know?" Which. ... ok sure she didn't expect him to read a pregnancy magazine but ... I guess maybe you wouldn't expect it on an end aisle or something? Whatever. At least the book has Cheyenne thinking "I never should've let me friend talk me into it."
Annnnd now I've changed my rating from 3 stars to 2 stars. Because ... she was never going to tell Quade. Like on the one hand I get not having any expectations from a one night stand or wanting to put the responsibility on the guy. I ... guess. [Actually so no I don't understand it but cognitively I can see people deciding that, especially when you can care for the babies on your own. But the thing is - like she thinks how she couldn't answer any of her doctor's questions about the father - wouldn't you want to know about potential issues? AND THEN -- like - the dude has a right to know he's about to become a father and decide if he wants to parent or not! ... Well, ok, in a way. Like he can sign away entirely all rights. [Although depending that still doesn't let you off the hook for support...]
So yeah. But I did like the interaction between Quade and the Steele cousins. I still need to read Thorn's book - PUT IT ON AUDIO, HOOPLA. OR HARLEQUIN, OR BOTH. WHOEVER IS THE HOLD UP.
Anyway.
[I wrote this part first then the above "review"/analysis] C-- I think? Not my favorite of the Westmorelands but I liked it more than Clint's story... Also DAMMIT last night /this AM I was laughing to myself that this "obscure aspect" [Not actually "dudes who don't want to be married but already are" - ARGH I WISH I COULD REMEMBER - but anyway that an author could have enough of some pretty obscure theme for there to be a duo pack - but like, obviously from an author as prolific as Brenda Jackson. <3]
I need a new brain.
[[added ~at the end]] [And - instead of a C-- I'm going with a D+ now - changed when I decided to lower the star rating
There is literally no conflict in this book. I hadn't read a romance in years and so decided to get back into it by reading my first Brenda Jackson novel. I understand this is part of a series so maybe I'm missing something but I generally found it lacking. Most of that was due to shallow characterization and the lack of stakes. I also am not a fan of the march of the family members that happens in the middle of the book. I'm not familiar with the other Westmoreland (I keep saying 'Westermore' in my head) novels so seeing or hearing about them added little for me personally.
Two stars for the erotic scenes, which were good. But mostly meh for the novel overall as the story is about two young, beautiful, rich people who get pregnant and everything's fine because the baby daddy is super pro-marriage and children and the baby mama doesn't need or care to track him down. Child support? Custody arrangements? Accusing the stranger you procreated with of doing it on purpose? Your family not liking the insta-spouse? Getting fired from your modeling job for your body changing as much as it would change if you were pregnant with triplets? Nothing. It's very much the ideal of what people wished happened in these situations. It just makes for very boring reading.
4 stars. Loved this one a lot. From the very beginning I was drawn into Quade and Cheyenne’s relationship and them as characters. Though I will say I had to warm up to Cheyenne because she was being absolutely ridiculous in the beginning but once she got past all of that, she was just as likable as Quade. Quade was definitely a very sexy and charming guy. I loved his calm personality and how responsible and caring he was. The two of them together were great and I loved their little family. The ending was super sweet.
After the first few chapters, I didn’t really care for the story and thought I wouldn’t finish it. But I pushed through and finished it anyway. It was okay, but it seemed really short, and though there were some good plot points, it seemed that they weren’t expanded on. This could’ve really been a good story with a little mystery as far as Quade and Cheyenne’s jobs were concerned. But it was barely touched on in the book.
There are so many open ended questions in this book. It does seems like it was rushed like the ending with the baby... what happened with that? That was a serious condition and not to know of the child is ok. Outside of the rush moments good read.
Quads is a very determined individual. He wants what he wants and that is his family and Cheyenne. If only she could stop being stubborn and just agree. Love their story.
I love this series. All of them have been steamy and hot. The passion between the characters leaps of the pages at me. Quade didn't know that an one night encounter will result in love for him and Cheyenne. It does and things get more intense when he realizes she had his babies.
I guess when the feeling of loves strikes, no long relationships needed. I bought the ebook yesterday to settle my curiosity about the triplets. I will have to read the "Westmoreland" series.
It was ok, but it didn't really feel like a full story. The initial meeting didn't even get a prologue, just memories from his and her perspective on a few pages and then the meeting 10 months later happened over a few hours but was the whole book. P.
Cheyenne and Quade met because they both were agents keeping the president and his wife safe. Now after their assignment they both went their separate ways. Not until Quade saw a photo of Cheyenne did he realize she was pregnant with his children.
So far this one has been the most 'meh'. still hot and steamy with that sweet HEA, but it was quite a bit... unbelievable? rushed? all of the above? but YAY more Westmorelands!
These books pull you in and makes you keep reading. Definitely a page turner. Can’t wait to read about Reggie and if he stays the single Westmoreland for long.
