I write kids' books--talk about a FUN job! I worked for 21 years as a speech-language therapist in Maine schools. When I got married, I got 3 & 4-year-old stepsons as part of my ready-made family. I read the boys picture books at bedtime. They fell asleep after 2 or 3 books, but I kept reading stacks and stacks of picture books and started to dream . . . maybe I could write picture books. I was already writing educational books (listening & speaking ideas for the classroom), but PICTURE BOOKS--that was different!

Different, and sloooooow! I had 13 years of rejections before getting my first book published, Pigs in the Mud in the Middle of the Rud, and I still get more rejections than acceptances--even after having more than 40 books published. So I'm still an author-in-training--learning to be a better author all the time.

I LOVE writing, the whole creative process. I also LOVE sharing my books with kids at schools: doing interactive readings, turning one of my books into a play, and teaching students how to plan and write different kinds of stories (i.e. problem stories, character stories, graphic novel scenes, fables) modeled after my books.

I love to try new kinds of writing such as poetic stories, a biography, a graphic novel, and more. Writing new kinds of stories is a challenge, but it makes writing fun and keeps me interested in the process.

A high-energy board book that celebrates loving relationships between grandfathers and their grandchildren. With brightly colored illustrations and a bouncy, rhyming repetitive text, this feel-good book shows grandfathers in a variety of settings -- inside, outside, active, and quiet -- but all with happy, smiling grandchildren.

A presentation of several grandfathers and their grandchildren each doing fun activities together.
The illustrations are cheerful, fun, and colorful. The people featured on each page are different races. Both my son and his grandfather enjoyed the book together. This would make a great gift for grandparents with a baby grandchild.

Perfect for babies and toddlers! Move fast and get excited with these bouncy rhyming books. You’ll chant along with these rhythmic texts, feeling the excitement of spending time with grandparents. Then, “Whoa, Grandpa , Whoa,” you’ll slow down and get cozy as the books end. The bright dynamic illustrations and thrumming rhymes are sure to be a hit with your little one!

All kinds of grandpas taking care of their grandkids. I can imagine storytime audiences shouting the refrain "Go, granpa, go!"

This is a beautifully illustrated book that shows grandparents and grandkids of different ages and races doing lots of different things with their grandkids (e.g. biking, gardening, walking, playing, swinging, getting groceries, jumping in puddles, reading). I do appreciate that, for the most part, many of the activities are child-centered (e.g. playing, reading, swinging) rather than only what the grandparent wants to do. I also love that the illustrations show grandfathers and grandkids of different ages and races; however, it would have been nice to see some grandfather or grandkid with different abilities. I would hate for a child to think they can't play with grandpa because he's hard of hearing or in a wheelchair.

Based on the simplicity of the wording, I would recommend this book for babies and young children. It's quick enough that children can enjoy it and learn about spending time with grandpa without making them antzy.

A lively board books for little ones. Quick, snappy text is paired with vibrant illustrations in this energetic board book full of grandfather's interaction with their grandkids. I love the variety of activities and the diversity of people represented. Little ones will love the refrain and the chance to read all about grandpa.
