The devil is in the details.

At least, that’s what I, alternative clothing store owner and animal activist, Ella Devlin, have always believed.

What should’ve been a simple B&E into the corrupt kill shelter to release all the animals, turns out to be not as simple as I imagined. Everything becomes a bit spotty.

Not only do I now have a pregnant Dalmatian refusing to leave my side, but I’m also facing the wrath of the shelters owners, Nita and Robert Darling, who will stop at nothing to retrieve every last animal released.

I can’t let that happen.

I may have grown up with the label of the heartless bitch, since I’ve never had the best of attitudes and tended to avoid people like the plague. But no one has ever gotten to see the real me hiding beneath.

With the help of my hot—yet womanizing—partner in crime, Theo, and my sinfully, sexy exs, Luca and Rollins, who run the animal sanctuary that’s aiding me, maybe I can succeed in stopping them. And in the process, show the world that just because the word Cruel is on my clothes, doesn’t mean it’s on my heart.

*This is a Villainously Romantic WhyChoose Retelling with tons of laughs, lots of lust, and quite a few spots*

This wa definitely a cute RH take on a certain Dalmatian story we all know and love. Luckily the heroine is no animal abuser and instead actually rescues (ie. breaks in and acquires) animals from shady and often high kill shelters. Of course she has a soft spot for dogs and one look at a preggo Dalmatian and she’s done for. As for the romance side of things, it takes until about halfway before clothes start coming off which was odd for such a short book with three men and one lucky lady. This was a really good read and I’d have loved for it to be longer. For me there was a bit of an outsider perspective to their relationship as the heroine previously dated two and is bff’s with another. It was good don’t get me wrong, it’s just that for me there was more backstory and feelings between them all that wasn’t so easy to understand as an outsider. That added with the shortness of the book made everything seem to be moving at warpspeed. Still super cute and with a really sweet HEA/epilogue.

Ella Devlin. Clothing designer by day, animal rescuer by night. Simple; but her latest rescue is anything but. Wealthy Nita and Robert Darling the shelter owners are determined to track down the person who broke into their shelter and they are close on her trail. One of the dogs, a pregnant dalmatian has adopted Ella as her's, her best friend has declared that he wants her, and the new animal rescue that she is asking to take in the abused rescues turns out to be owned by her high school exes.

I love this Villainous Collaboration series. It's a fun idea twisting the stories around. This is obviously Cruella Deville. It's a contemporary take on animal cruelty, activism, and polyamorous relationships presented in an entertaining story. Ella, her besties Zoe and Theo and her exes Luca and Rollins were all likable, pretty characters. This is a quick-paced story and I enjoyed it but would have appreciated even more depth. I would have liked to know why the brothers didn't come after Ella sooner if they loved her so and did they try their relationship with other girls? I didn't accept Theo's reasons why he had so many ladies. Nope, not good enough. I would have liked more Zoe, more details on the Darlings, and more of life at the ranch. Even more Gus, Pretty, and Lucky. We got to spend time with determined activist Ella, creative designer Ella, angsty love-scared Ella. We got a glimpse of out of control, hysterical, loving life Ella at the end and while I understand the novella-length series and it was definitely a complete story, there was so much more story here.

First off, let me just say that I LOVE the idea of taking the villain and making them the heroine. Bad girls need love too!! That's not quite the way this goes though. They aren't taking someone who is evil and making you love them. It's not the actual storyline from the past.

Cruelty is a spin on Cruella Deville. Here we have Cruel Ella. She's a clothing enthusiast who is also an animal lover. So much so that she may make it a small habit to steal dogs from sketchy shelters that are treating the animals wrong. All it takes is one breaking and entering gone wrong to throw her life up in shambles though. But life has a funny way of working things out for you.

This is a shorter read but full of plenty to keep you entertained. We have a friends to lovers and second chance romance going on. We have laughs, a little heartbreak and some sexy, steamy scenes. Also a little action and suspense to keep you on your toes. Overall I enjoyed the story and I think you will too.

Cruelty is book 2 in the Villainously retelling series, each addition is told by a different author. Here K.B does an excellent job of telling of Cruella Deville which we know from 101 Dalmatians. This was such a cool spin on this story, one that I enjoyed very much. Also to keep in mind that these are loosely based on the original stories.

Cruel Ella is an animal lover, and she is not above maybe acquiring dogs from places that may not be the safest for them. But when one such encounter goes wrong, Ella's life just changed. Funny how something least expected can change your course.

This is a quick read but filled with a lot. We have a friend to lovers, laughs, sexy times, second chances and just a tad bit of heartbreak. Put all of this together, and you have a very good retelling story.

Unlike the first book, this retelling isn’t a light walkthrough. Ella is broken hearted and on the wrong side of the law doing the right thing. I like the already established ménage relationship, although the reason they gave made me a little ragey. As much as I liked Theo, god the jealousy was annoying. Slipped to a 3.5 but the epilogue alone was a 4. I liked all three guys but my favourite was Luca.

This was such a great little story, and a wonderfully inventive take on 101 Dalmatians. I really loved the main character, Ella, and her guys were totally swoon-worthy. I love the idea of taking a well-known story and flipping it on its head to make the original villain the hero of the tale, and I think KB Everly did an amazing job in this one!

I loved this book, it was so cute and I loved every second of it. Admittedly 101 Dalmatians isn't one of my favorite Disney movies but this book is a great adaptation of the movie. I absolutely loved Ella, she is the perfect mix of soft and badass and she loves animals more than anything what more could you love. The guys are sweet and even though they might have hurt her before they were willing to do anything to be with her. I also adored Zoe, she's pretty much the best kind of friend you could have. The only th ing I would have liked more was if we got to see Zoe's family more, especially since her mother is in the same kind of relationship as Ella, that she could have given her some advice on how to proceed. I did like this book but again wished it could be longer or maybe with another book with these characters.

I loved the play on words and names in this book it was very nostalgic for me I loved the 101 Dalmations as a child and this was an awesome retelling. The play on words had me laughing and feeling happy Ella, Theo, Luca, and Rollins were amazing together and I loved the animal aspect and that they mentioned the first book's Hearts and Paws. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the series.

As far as retelling go….

This one was pretty enjoyable and also a quick read! If you’re a fan of Cruella Deville, I recommend this one for a “spot of light reading”. Ella is a fashion designer who rescues animals on the side.. and happens to reconnect with her high school sweethearts!!

Writing this after reading entire series. The best story of the bunch in my opinion. Cruelly sets the underground dog ring ablaze with her Robin hood justice. Finding her long lost lovers and giving a truly worth man a chance. Not to mention who dosent love a canine companion especially one with babies on board.

This was such a great read!! I loved the twist from the original story. I'm not much of a fan of 101 dalmatians, but if this was what would happen, it would be my favorite!! This was written so well and captured my attention from the very beginning! I loved all the characters and how well they all fit together!!! Just, yess!!!

Not bad. Not what I’d hoped it woks and not what I wanted it to be but not bad.

Oooooo,well where to start?
Hmmmmmm, ok, first off,I’d describe this as light. For me lighter than the movie in some ways I think this is supposedly be based off of. Light on story, light on development, light on Romance, well just light. I’d describe this as one of those

stories, where you walk away saying,”Not bad there just wasn’t much to it.
Lost great ingredients here to make one hell of a big meal but instead you get shortcuts that leave you with just a nice appetizer.
Everything from the cover ( which I think is gorgeous by the way) , to the h’s name/nickname “Cruel” Ella ( which No one calls her) Ella or El but never Cruel anything, to the Dalmatian that won’t leave her side,to the Evil “Darlings” we are lead to believe this is some new retelling of “101 Dalmatians” from th supposed villains point of you, where really everything is reversed and they are really the “good one” / anti hero... and as a added twist it’s also a RH “romance”...
Problem foe me was it was weak on all those fronts .
I thought I would be getting a bad A itchy anti hero, who is really a woman with a good heart whether others see it or not, who finds/re-kindles love as she saves lots of animals . Especially lots and lots and lots of Dalmatians considering what the story is supposed to be based on. But what we get is a great idea that’s lacking the depth and pages it needs to be a really great story.
In 101 Dalmatians, you have a story where two dogs meet Pongo ( the boy) and Perdita ( the girl) and fall in love and take their owners along for the ride. Along that journey the owners marry and the dogs have puppies . Puppies they have to save along with almost a 100 others from the EVIL Cruella.

Here: one lone female Dalmatian named Pretty or Pretty girl
Pretty is a single mother ( very contemporary) and doesn’t strive to bring anyone together except herself w/Ella
Ella and her “Creul Ella” designs
Her bi colored hair
The Darlings
Saving dogs ( but it’s a single raid on one shelter and it’s cats included ) and one Dalmatian
Pretty does have puppies but only five ( plus something else happens that differs from the movie.
In the movie, Cruella is a very evil presence we are NEVER allowed to forget . Here the evil,Darlings are just a vague thought as Ella looks over her shoulder til the showdown at the end.
This is a very contemporary type story,,ppl fighting animal cruelty. Clothing designs being used to raise awareness. Poly/alternative lifestyles in and around San Francisco. Though honestly the lifestyle part isn’t as tied to certain parts of the country as it once might have been. But this didn’t really feel like a retelling of anything ,the ties were too light. It didn’t really feel like a romance because we barely spend any time with the men and w(a story this short and w/out them having a POV they barely feel like more than just mere words on a page.
I thought I was getting gritty and real and raw , a contemporary tale told thru the eyes of a undisney Bad A,who was only a villain to this who deserved it. What I got was a h who felt like a girl, a brave girl but a girl l a girl who is supposed to be 28 but feels more like 21-22 ,who spends the bulk of the story running around scared, paranoid and worried about either getting caught or rushing back into a relationship she’s not given the time to deal with properly. All the while completely clueless as to how her best friend Theo feels about her.
I’d recommend this, but go in knowing it’s very light weight,it’s NOT dark or gritty,it lacks any real depth and you spend more time with the h running around nervous, scared, or clueless than anything else.
Not bad but not what I wanted.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure I was going to like this or not as it's always a bit hit or miss when you see classics you know and love being turned on their head. But there is a current trend occurring everywhere where we see a classic fairy tale being turned on it's head and being told by the villain of the story, getting a different perspective. Now, to be completely clear, this is not really true of what is happening here, this is not a straight retelling of 101 Dalmatians from Cruella's perspective but rather a modern take on a classic, from the perspective of Ella Devlin - fashion designer, animal lover and rescuer, and her story about how she went from B&E a kill shelter to rescue the animals to hiding from the law, all while fighting temptation at every turn. If you are after a devilishly stylish but pure of heart female lead, three temptingly delicious men, a fantastic bestie, and adorable animals, then this book is for you.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The rating and opinions are my own.

Cruelty (A Villainously Romantic Retelling Book 2) By K.B. Everly
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I loved this book. Look I am a dog loving chick so I have never EVER like Cruella but this book made me rethink my hate! LOL I mean who thinks its ok to wear dog fur as a coat?? Uhm EWWWWW
Ella and her crew are a great sexy read for anyone to set down with on a cold night *wink*. I love how by the end of the story it made me look at her in a different way. The novella was too short because I could have enjoyed a few more chapters. I love the way KB changed my opinion of Ella and her story.

~BREAKDOWN OF RATINGS~
Plot~ 5/5

Character depth ~ 5/5

Pacing ~ 5/5

Hero(es) ~ 5/5

Heroine~ 4/5
I enjoyed her character until the last chapter. She became somewhat... immature and a little dense. I understand the circumstance, but I feel that her reaction was out of character, and not comical like I think what the author was going for.

Emotion felt by reader ~ 5/5

Dark themes (violence, gore, etc): Yes, but not from the hero

Sensuality, Passionate ~ 4/5

Se(xxx)y time(s) ~ 4/5 steamy, but not overly descriptive. Would have preferred more.

Conclusion ~ 5/5

Cliffhanger ~ No

Book Cover ~ 5/5
STUNNING cover

*Clever twist on an old tale. I enjoyed it!

Fun!

I love this idea of taking the villains from well know stories and flipping it around so they become the good guys. In this retelling the heroine is Ella or "Cruel" Ella as she's been called. The character is based off Cruella Deville but the spin is that Ella is an animal lover with an adorable dalmatian sidekick! She has a penchant for stealing mistreated dogs which eventually causes her to cross paths with the evil Darlings. Throw in some hot exes and a BFF and things get real interesting! This was a quick, fun read and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!

I love this new take on one of my favorite childhood stories. Cruelty is part if a group of stories that are described as a villain villainously romantic WhyChoose retelling and of 101 Dalmatians however in this story the Darlings are the even ones and "Cruel" Ella, or just Ella, is the hero of the story. This is such a new take on retelling a story. I am so used to reading about how the villian/villainess is written as an evil/cruel person who in the end has a change of heart but that was not the case with this story. It had a second chance romance, friends to lovers as well as some sexy times and in the end good prevails over evil.

A fun, light read that takes a new spin on the story of Cruella Deville. Part of the Villainous retellings of many of our childhood story favorites. This one is about a villain who isn't actually a villain, or antihero. She's actually pretty awesome when it comes to fighting for the furry little guys who can't fight for themselves. It helps that this reverse harem also has 3 hotties helping out too. Great read!

I love retellings and spinoffs of fairytale books. This one didnt disappoint either. The is the second book in a retelling series. Each one done by different authors. K.B. did a wonderful job in this one and made Ella the good guy and not the bad one. Saving animals instead of the one taking them and of course she threw in some yumminess. The book is a short one but still very much worth the read. I would recommend reading this along with all the other books in the series.

I never thought that I would love a retelling of a villain I dislike so much!
I did not expect to love these characters as much as I do but I should have known. K.B has a way with words. Her story telling is awe inspiring and I gobble it all up!
Pretty Girl is my absolute favorite ever!
I would love if this was a series but I absolutely loved this book! And that cover? So perfect!!

Great retelling by K B Everly. I enjoyed reading an alternative version of the classic we surely have all seen as kids. The whole story is flipped on it's head with the villain being the hero instead and I'm all for it! I enjoyed reading about Ella and her exploits.
Was howling with laughter at the epilogue. A nice little insight to how their relationship progressed.

This is not a let's make the bad guy the hero book. This is not what I was expecting but in a good way. In this story you have Ella who is sometimes called curel ella but she's anything but. This was a delightful read and I enjoyed every page of it. I love the Reverse Harem part and Gus, Pretty, and Lucky.

I am loving all these takes on the classic concept of the villains. Yes, its not the same and I loved that because we got to see an interesting twist and I ate up the story! I am gonna devour the next couple on my vacation on the beach because they are the perfect length and speed for relaxing and just enjoying a story (with some nice relationships and storyline). Great job KB, loooooved it!

I fucking loved it!!! Such an original clever take on such a well known story completely turning it on its head. I absolutely loved Ella as an FMC, loved her relationships with her bff and her guys. Retellings are usually still all about the 'heroes' of the original stories so to rewrite making it all about the Gillian, such a clever and original idea. Well done!

Really enjoyed it!

I love a good retelling but this one was very different than others that I’ve read. For one, I’ve never read any about Cruella. I adored reading about Ella’s rescue endeavors and loved the spin with Cruel Clothing. Not to mention the guys are pretty 😍.

The story was very cute. This retelling is different from what I was expecting. The FCM doesn't really have much in common with the movie character she's based off. I actually prefer that though. I enjoyed this story and the cover was absolutely gorgeous.
