A Note From the "I have for many years envisioned The Exorcist and Legion to be one continuous read, even though the former is a fact-based, clearly 'religious thriller,' while the story of Legion delivers more excitingly on the level of a pure 'entertain-ment.' Never-the-less, it is Legion and not The Exorcist that is by far the more ambitious work in that the demonic homicides that police Lt. Kinderman is investigating are of much lesser concern to him than solving that case of cosmic homicide that for eons, and for so many and for so long, has been the foremost stumbling block to belief in a benevolent Creator, namely the so-called 'Problem of Evil,' to which Legion brazenly offers a solution."

I'm giving this 4 stars for The Exorcist. Legion would rate 1, maybe 2 stars. It's mainly a lot of philosophical discussions with not much of a story behind it. Pretty disappointing.

Exorcist 3 is a genius movie and if you don’t get it I believe in my heart that you are likely very stupid

I found it fascinating. Not as scary as the film because without the visuals.... well, my imagination can't go that far, I guess, but it was very disturbing and unpleasant at time, although at the same time I absolutely couldn't put it down, curious about what was going to happen next.
I believe this story would have a bigger impact on a more religious person than myself because I would still consider the things happening in it related to some sort of a psychological disorder. That being said, I do admit that the author did a great job with escalating tension and suspense.
Side note - reading it for film school, which is the reason why I went for the screenplay instead of actual book.

The Exorcist was fair. It did not have the force of the film. Legion was brutal. It is mostly Kinderman philosophizing about life and religion. Only in the last 90 pages is there anything that even resembles a psychological thriller. I'm happy to have read them, and Blatty certainly has his skilled moments, but overall this felt more of a chore to finish than a page turner

Interesting to note the differences between the films, the books, and the scripts. The script for Legion is markedly different. Changes were made to the Exorcist 3 to provide a more 'exciting' ending.
