Gods and Psychopaths #1

Gods and Psychopaths

Rate this book
Black Scottish terriers aren't particularly well-known for devouring civilisations, but Little Dog is.

Like most omnipotent beings, Little Dog finds boredom a constant problem, but the deity has just the right plaything to solve this, a psychopathic and eccentric vagabond called Cain.

Cain never wanted to make a deal with the sadistic and petulant deity. All he ever wanted was to gorge on Manchester's finest foods, fight the police and save the bumblebee through murderous rampages. Instead, he has to give bloodthirsty performance after bloodthirsty performance to keep the deity entertained. If he fails, he might just find that he - and the rest of the world - become Little Dog's snacks.

**If you like your violence gory, your heroes twisted, your sex messed up, and your comedy as black as your ex's heart, then this is the book for you!**

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always been fascinated by the villain. They always seemed to dress so damn smooth, have badass weaponry, wanted to change the world, and took no s*** from no one. The fact that they were all so cool, negated the fact that they were constantly losing. Also, they never gave up on the crazy s*** they believed in, even though they'd get whooped in the most humiliating of ways. They'd keep coming back with some insane new plan and give it another go. That admiration has still stuck with me when it has come to the stories I love, ones about badass and persistent losers with crazy f***ing ideas. So, that is what I try to write.

My star-sign is Cthulhu. This means I am patient, hardworking, thoughtful, and I have an insatiable desire to conquer the world.

He left me hanging...

This is book 1, in what I am hoping will be a series of Gods and Psychopaths books! Especially since this book left in a huge cliffhanger that left me wanting to know what was going on!! The book is the perfect length to start and finish on a lazy afternoon. It is well written with u retesting characters for the most part. If you I had one complaint is that some of the characters are a bit too full of themselves and some of the violence scenes seemed a little repetitive and endless but other than that I really enjoyed this book! I can’t wait to check out the rest of the series and find out what is going to happen next. You can’t leave a girl hanging like that! I enjoyed the dark humor, but I’d recommend this for the 18+ crowd due to violence and language.

This book has been an interesting one for me, with my reactions flipping between liking it and the opposite. I was taken by the blurb on Amazon about it initially or I wouldn't have bought it, but once I started reading it I really struggled with the first 25-30% and was on the point of adding it to my "Dropped Books" list, when I got engaged and found myself carried along for the next 50% or so. Then as I approached the end I sort of fell out of love with it again. That's why the 3-star rating.

It's not a quality of writing issue, the characters are to say quite unique, the scene-setting is good, there is also a lot of violence and death in the book which may disturb some but it's at what I'd call a comic book level of ridiculousness. There was just something I struggle to describe that had me loving it one moment, and disliking it the next.

All power to the author for taking a different track and flummoxing me somewhat. Like many books today it finishes quite open-ended with a sequel to follow, again I'm undecided whether to go down that path at the present.

Gods and Psychopaths by Louis Park Is an interesting book filled with violence, twisted characters, but still has a deeper message. A lot of tongue in cheek messages, subtle and not so subtle political and cultural commentary and you have an intriguing book. Some of the content was a bit over the top though, a hefty dose of violence, sex aspects that really didn't add much to the story. While the characters were interesting, most were dealt with in an almost one dimensional way, development of these could have made this book more readable and memorable. The overarching tone is entertaining though, and the bulk of the book is clearly discernible for what it is, psychological horror that is both shocking and tumultuous.

First time reading this author. Not really a big fan of finding out that a book is part of a series upon finishing said book. Not that I'm particularly against series but typically i approach it differently than I would if it was a stand alone book. I will usually make sure I have the next book on hand so that I can jump right into it. But usually my A.D.D. will kick in and I will completely forget about needing to finish the story. All that being said this book had a great build up to a cliffhanger that I hope to remember to pick up but seeing as it is only available from Amazon (sorry had some bad luck with them so not a fan) I will more than likely forget to come back and see what ends up happening.

sharp

A sharp pungent tale about a vengeful psychopath who has a thing for bees and a taste for fine food. He meets up with an evil Uber-arrogant passing deity who manifests as a black Scottish Terrier. What other breed of dog would be more suitable for the role. There are other characters equally interesting and just about as evil. Fiorella. Satan.
The whole thing is savage, violent and just messed up. Told vividly and sarcastically. All in all a sad amusing and tale about a bunch of deranged and demented characters you will have absolutely no sympathy for. Or at least I certainly hope not.
Did I mention that the dog/god just loves snacking on humans. Only while they’re still alive though. It likes its meat fresh.

I’m going to give this book a four for creativity. It was an entirely new and different story and that’s pretty rare these days. There is only one thing that I would advocate for moving forward and that is to get an editor. Aside from the usual oops that occur in any writing endeavor, a good editor would help you tighten up the connections and relationships between characters and events as well as filling out your characters a little more.

This is a great job for a first book. Keep moving forward. You’re on to something here.

Very well written. However, after reading about 1/3 of the way through, I still couldn't get into the flow of things. I found the protagonist's unique sophistication interesting at first, but my early sympathy for him quickly evaporated. I may pick this up again at some point and give it another go, but for now I have to set this one aside (something I rarely do). Would have been at least 4 stars for the writing, but dropped due to having lost my interest.

This author's imagination is so far beyond left field, I look for his next book in a string theory setting

If you love a brilliantly written tale unlike anything you have ever read, you have GOT to read this book! Mr. Park has the most insanely uniquely awesome imagination that I have ever read! Prepare to have your mental rug yanked out from beneath you!

Found this gem on a random Google search, and it truly was an amazing read. It was quite a refreshing change from the books I usually read. I was interested in the premise and the book delivered on it. It was funny, it was violent and I quite enjoyed reading it. I'm going to read the 2nd book in the series now.

Very entertaining!

I found a lot of humor in this book. Some people may not enjoy the humor but I highly recommend it! I found myself actually laughing out loud at white a few parts.

This book is exactly what the title hints at. There are psychopaths aplenty with very iconic senses of humor and purpose. One psychopath in particular not only manages to incur the curiosity of one God, but two. This is where the fun starts because these gods can't abide each other, have their own plans for mankind in general, and are constantly plotting to promote these plans. A very interesting fun read.

Funny!

Definitely worth the read. I liked the character development and the unique spin on deities in general . Could use a bit more time on who the main character is

Neat story, writing is very odd. The author feels the need to use every adjective he's ever learned at least twice. Definitely a multi part story rather than a series.

There's nothing 'wrong' with the book; it's imaginative and trots along quite nicely, but I did't find it memorable. It's just a taste thing - others will certainly like it more.

Not my cup of tea, got over 1/4 way through before I gave up. I think it was the slow direction it was taking and to be honest, in the words of the little dog, 'I got bored'.

Disclaimer: I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What a strange experience. I won’t lie to you, I thought this was going to be a little corny and I was just looking for something maybe dark but with some comic relief happening, what I got however, was much more than I had bargained for. It’s a very dark premise with a lot of vivid imagery from fights to settings. It’s also extremely trippy. It’s the first installment in what is probably going to be one of the weirdest series I have read. And I will be reading this series. It’s entertaining and crazy. As much as I thought this was going to be cheesy, that’s how far it delivered on the opposite scale using a very creative premise. I really like the entities and people involved in the story line and like to see where this weird story winds up taking us. It was original, witty and intriguing. I think it has a lot of interesting ideas in it also. I really enjoyed the overall and this author did an incredible job at maintaining a very dark, but enlightening mentality throughout that does prompt interesting existential debates. I think this is a good read on multiple levels, and the writing of violent scenes specifically far surpasses many others writing in a similar genre.

This is the first book by Louis Clark that I have read, and I have to say that I enjoyed it. This was not what I was expecting, but I found it to be better. The world and characters that Mr. Clark builds is of the darker aspect of the human personalities. The main character had me in stitches at times with the way his mind worked and his child-like glee in his love and devotion to the plight of the bumble bees, the satisfaction he takes takes in meeting out justice and playing with people, and the powerful and bored god that pulls strings to make others entertain him. I enjoyed how Mr. Clark did not pull back the punches on how brutal mankind can be and how callous people and beings are. I recommend this book to those 18+ due to the graphic natures described. Thank you Mr. Clark for an entertaining story. I look forward to reading more of your work.

What do you get when a psychopathic vagabond makes a deal with a Black Scottish terrier god? Chaos, madness, and a lot of unexpected twists. God’s & Psychopaths by Louis Park is a wild ride that kept me laughing, confused, and completely entertained, despite a few long-winded moments and some questionable logic from the protagonist.
