Nothing’s that simple when you’re a geek girl. Julie Moffett’s beloved Lexi Carmichael mystery series returns with No Questions Asked.
Lexi Carmichael: saving scientists one snake at a time.
Weddings aren’t my thing—never have been. But eloping would break my mother’s heart, especially since the president of the United States put in a good word for me with his daughter’s wedding planner. I’m going to have the wedding of the year…whether I like it or not.
Before we can say I do, Slash and I are flying off to the Brazilian rain forest. Our mission: stop hackers from stealing a vaccine that could save millions of lives. I thought it’d be easy, but from the moment we step off the plane, I’m up to my neck in trouble.
After an attack by drug-runners, being kidnapped and discovering that the bad guy is even worse than we’d imagined, I’m pretty sure someone in our group is working for the enemy. And they’re succeeding. I’ll have to use all my geek skills to stop the bad guys if I’m going to make it home in time to tie that knot.

Loved this book! The book starts with Lexi agonizing over wedding planning.....errr, rather, her mother's attempts to plan her wedding. Then, Lexi is tasked with an assignment to Brazil and Slash goes with her. Once there, Lexi's little black cloud continues to prove its existence and Lexi's struggle with all things rain forest.
I love Lexi and Slash and how they have developed, grown, and changed over the course of the series. The author has made me care about them and feel invested in their lives.
If it were possible, I would give this book more than five stars. This series is one of my absolute favorites and is a must read for fans of the genre. This is a stand alone novel, however, the series is so good that you really owe it yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.
No Questions Asked by Julie Moffett is a winner for me. I love this series and in this one Ms. Moffett has pushed Lexi completely out of her comfort zone. The awesome thing is that Lexi not only adapted well to each situation but began to enjoy herself.
X-Corps has been hired by Vaccitex to prevent security breaches of their computer data regarding a revolutionary malaria vaccine. Lexi is required to go to Brazil with a team of doctors to record the data of the team. Slash is on a forced vacation and volunteers to go with her. This is where the fun begins.
A well developed story that is smoothly paced, spiders, snakes, drug runners, indigenous tribes, Lexi's little black cloud of chaos, laughter (Lexi and chickens come to mind) and a beautiful and intimate wedding made this a book that I could not put down. Fans of this series will also gain some new insight into Slash's past that I hope we'll see develop more fully in the future.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.
Lexi and Slash are engaged to be married and - next to Lexi's eager mom - even POTUS is giving his input on her wedding plans! Fortunately (or not..) Lexi is asked to fly to Brazil to help with protecting data for an organization that wants to test a new malaria vaccine - in the jungle! Gwen is also on the team as a biologist and Slash - confronted with 3 weeks leave - decides to go as well.
No, the plane does not crash this time :-) But there is enough action and danger to keep you glued to the pages (of my Kindle in my case). Lexi is always getting into danger or strange situations.
Loved this new installment and it gave me all the feels on the Lexi/Slash front. Kudos to the author for keeping the series fresh and interesting.
*** I received an ARC via Netgalley but have also pre-ordered my own digital copy for March 2020. This is my honest and voluntary review. ***
I received a free copy of NO QUESTIONS ASKED (Book 12 of the Lexi Carmichael Series) by Julie Moffett in exchange for an honest review. Slash has abandoned Lexi to the wedding planning machinations of her mother. Lexi’s mother is pressuring Lexi to make actual decisions about the upcoming nuptials when all Lexi wants to do is elope. When even POTUS expresses an interest in the status of the wedding, Lexi jumps at a chance to flee to the Brazilian rainforest to perform on-site computer security for a charitable organization testing a new malaria vaccine. Slash, going stir crazy while on vacation from the government, accompanies Lexi. Corporate greed, spying, and sabotage---OH MY! Even if the plane doesn’t crash this time, things will get stickier than expected.
I love this series. Lexi, while taking herself very seriously, always ends up in big trouble under ridiculous circumstances. I recommend this book to fans of technological spy thrillers with a humorous bent.
This is the twelfth book in the Lexi Carmichael mystery series by Julie Moffett.
The one thing you can guarantee in a Lexi Carmichael book is that you will always get double the dose of action than in any other book of a similar caliber. Wow. What a thrill ride this was.
Lexi and Slash are getting married. But before the day comes, they are whisked away to the jungles of Brazil where they meet up with drug runners, a little known tribe and a group of scientists who want to secure their malaria vaccine. The vaccine is a groundbreaking discovery that will work on a segment of the population that the normal vaccine cannot help.
This story never stops. When Slash comes in to save the day and have a fight with the king of the indigenous tribe for Lexi’s hand in marriage, that had to be my favorite part of the book. How romantic was that?
I couldn’t help but laugh at Lexi throughout the book. Every stumbling block led her to a strange success. Somehow the tribe thought her to be a descendent of the Amazonian warriors. Too funny. Lexi rolls with the punches no matter what happens to her. We could all learn a lot from following Lexi’s example.
Such a fun book. I totally recommend this entire series.
If you love a good mystery/cozy mystery/suspense book, you need to pick this one up. You won’t be disappointed. I was hooked all the way through. Good stuff!
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
This was a fantastic story, that I enjoyed very much!
Lexi Carmichael is desperately trying to avoid wedding planning with her overly, excited mom.
Slash gets orders to take a three week vacation, but his first day off lands him on the news and he gets a reminder about that vacation.
The founder, along with the CEO of Vaccitex, which is a nonprofit organization working on a malaria vaccine to be administered to the very young, request Lexi to accompany the team to the rainforest in Brazil for added security measures. The vaccine in any other hands would net big profits, which requires a higher level of protection.
Slash tags along as an extension of Frisson working under X-Corp where he offers his cyber services. By going, Slash will have a working vacation and also provide much needed support for Lexi, who hates to fly, bugs, heat & humidity.
The trip to Brazil was uneventful until they were introduced to the plane that would take them to the research center. This plane didn't look fit for flying, but the other options weren't great either. Opting to take the fastest route, at the last minute the pilot allowed a cage with three chickens to board. Due to turbulence, the chickens got free followed by hilarious escapades in trying to retrieve them.
Once at the research center, Lexi learns that she is required to go along with the team when they visit tribes to vaccinate, so she can enter data immediately. If it isn't bad enough, that there are plane rides, loose chickens, heat, humidity to contend with; the research center is guarded by soldiers behind barbed wire fence due to pirates and thieves.
The excursions to reach the tribes are met with trial after trial. When they finally are able to inoculate one tribe, the unexpected happens. Lexi will have to rely on her wits and cunning to leave, but in the process, she finds new friendship and an experience beyond measure.
I, definitely could relate to Lexi not wanting to fly or be in a rainforest, but loved how Lexi adapted to the circumstances, despite her fears, which lead me to laugh; as well as, cheer her on! I laughed about the part of the chickens running amok on the plane and could visualize feathers flying all over. So many other parts that had me laughing out loud like an unintentional mooning. I was surprised by the ending, and was left with the hope that eventually things will work out and it'll come together in another book. Just like the quote says: "Love conquers all."
I received an ARC from NetGalley via HARLEQUIN-Carina Press and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
The long awaited Lexi Carmichael book and adventure that readers have been waiting for and I promise you will not be disappointed. Lexi is still just as awkward and geeky as always as she is trying to save a scientist and prepare for a wedding.
No Questions ask as many laugh out loud moments along with cringe worthy only Lexi could do moments.
Julie Moffett is able to make Lexi related to so many readers to the point they will seem themselves in Lexi shoes as she tried to adapt to everything that is thrown in her path.
Fans of author Julie Moffett will not be disappointed with this next installment.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the advance copy of Julie Moffett No Questions Asked.
No Questions Asked, the 12th book in Julie Moffett’s Lexi Carmichael Mystery series, is a fantastic adventure that we get to share with both Lexi and Slash. I love spending time with Lexi when she is placed in out-ot-her-comfort-zone situations and No Questions Asked starts with a biggie, wedding planning. She has made great gains with help from Slash but he even doesn’t want anything to do with decisions for a Mozilla-sized wedding. Her mother's runaway plans require Lexi to make decisions that force her to think about being around people, lots and lots of people. She really tries to be a good daughter but, come on, trying on wedding gowns and deciding on flowers, much less just thinking about seating charts is a nightmare equaled only by spiders, snakes, flying...well lots of other stuff. From one nightmare to another Lexi is pulled into one of THOSE trips, yep, spiders, snakes, and boats in piranha ridden waters, but Lexi's heart is bigger than her fears and pulls her into a trip to the Amazon to protect data on a malaria vaccine that will protect children. Julie Moffett never lets things get old with these wonderful characters. Even though regular readers can often guess what Lexi's reaction will be to any situation, the disasters she faces are so varied and often completely unexpected. We have seen some development in Lexi’s social terror and see even more on this journey. There are some really beautiful moments that takes the trials in No Questions Asked well beyond the norm and make it my favorite book in the Lexi Carmichael series. I was thrilled to be approved for an ARC by NetGalley even though I had already pre-ordered No Questions Asked as soon as it was available. I adore this series and talk about it with anyone who will listen. #NetGalley #NoQuestionsAsked

I loved this book so much because it never stopped from the first word to the last - I am sick in the hospital with a rare blood cancer. But for a few moments this book took me on a beautiful escape. It was so exciting. Please re ad this book. Like me you won’t be able to put it down
Julie Moffett’s new Lexi Carmichael adventure in No Questions Asked takes her main characters, Lexi and Slash, to Brazil’s Rainforest. The author provides the backstory of why Slash and Lexi are still recovering from the drama of their last adventure. Hoping to catch their breath, Lexi's mother decides it is time to finalize the wedding plans from picking her dress to creating a guest list. Moffett places her readers next to Lexi as she and Slash try to ignore her mother’s efforts to nail things down.
Moffett’s readers follow the development of the main character Lexi Carmichael’s personal and professional life. When the not-for-profit pharmaceutical company Vaccitex, has hacking issues they seek out X-Corp and Lexi to solve their security problems. The storyline picks up momentum immediately after Lexi agrees to travel create a team to oversee the issues at their NYC headquarters and also agrees to travel to the Rainforest in Brazil to oversee the security of the final test phase of the development of a new malaria vaccine for children of all ages. Slash and Lexi's goals include the security of the vaccine development and to discover who and why someone is trying to sabotage the development of the vaccine.
The author continues the development of Lexi and Slash’s personal and work accomplishments adding additional information and the storyline progresses. She introduces support characters and their backstories at the time they enter the storyline. Readers find the growth of Lexi and Slash’s budding romance stimulating and are compelled to keep reading to find out all of the details of the relationship. Moffett continues to drop hints that there is an important connection between the scientist and founder of Vaccitex, Lexi, and Slash.
No Questions Asked storyline changes directions adding intrigue and suspense on every page. Moffett creative exposes Lexi and her team to spiders, snakes, drug runners, unknown tribes, laughter, and unique tribal rituals including interesting marriage ceremonies. She unveils solutions to a few personal mysteries for Slash and Lexi taking her readers' breath away. She creates a surprising and unforgettable ending that will give everyone goose-bumps. No Questions Asked is a barn burner and must-read. I highly recommend Moffett’s new book earning a five-star rating.
Lexi is a master hacker and director for X-Corp, an intelligence and security company. She is engaged to Slash, who is a government agent and fellow hacker. Lexi and Slash just want a quiet wedding but that's not going to happen with her mother involved.
A non-profit company has invented a vaccine that could cure malaria and save many lives. They want to do test trials in the Brazil rain forest but someone is trying to stop that. It's suspected that someone is trying to hack into the company's system, steal the formula and get it into the market first. Lexi is known as one of the best in the business so is hired to find out who it is. Slash has been forced to take a vacation so goes along with Lexi and the rest of the team to Brazil. It's a welcome way to get away from all the wedding planning.
Of course, nothing goes smoothly and the team comes across drug runners, crooked government officials, pirates, kidnappers and more!
Though this is the twelfth (and latest) in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone. If you want to know the background, though, you should read the others. I've like the series and have read them all.
It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view and third person perspective from Slash and other's points of view. I liked the writing style and there was humour. In addition to the usual hacking, there was lots of adventure around Brazil. It's been interesting to watch Lexi grow from being a geek with just one friend, no life and no social skills to not only having close friends, a fiancé with whom she is now living with, but also confidence.
Lexi & Slash are getting ready for their wedding. Planning is atrocious as Lexi's mother is trying to take over the duties. The plans are stressing her out and Slash is stressed by being on vacation. Lexi jumps at a chance from a non profit group to travel to Brazil to introduce a new vaccine for malaria and Slash goes along for computer back up. Trying to track the hackers that are trying to steal the vaccine have them up to their eyeballs in intrigue, secrets and lies, and who they can really trust. Embarking in the unknown to find lost tribes in the rain forest has Lexi stretching her boundaries against everything outdoors. Trouble from the natives, spies in their group, & a kidnapping has serious implications along with secrets from Slash's past. Will they ever escape the rain forest and get married or will they meet death?
No Questions Asked is the 12th book in the AMAZING Lexi Carmichael Mystery series. When I read this book , I felt like I was going on an amazing adventure with Lexi and Slash. Its time for wedding planning and Slash has left it all to Lexi and her mom's crazy overbearing plans. This is such a nightmare for Lexi, this is the last thing she wants to do.
Lexi trades in one disaster for another adventure headed to the Amazon to secure information on a malaria vaccine.
This book is filled with the action and writing perfection I have come to expect from Julie Moffett. There are also some incredibly sweet moments.
I cannot say how much I love this series, and this is by far my favorite book so far!!!!
Oh, MAN, I like when Lexi and Slash end up in the middle of dangerous situations and have to use their big brains and hacking skills to outwit the bad guys and save the day. The downside of this adventure is that the Brazilian rain forest isn't the best place to highlight one's hacking skills...except it also kind of is.
Because, you know, it's Lexi and Slash and they manage to take bad situations and turn them into something they can work with. Sometimes that involves prodding a snake out of a tree and sometimes it involves finding an unsecured laptop with a treasure trove of much needed information.
But before our couple get to that point, they have to wade through wedding planning (THE HORROR!), wedding dress shopping (even worse than the planning!), ferreting out information on who'd want to derail vaccination trials that could save millions, and lots of bugs (and snakes!) in the jungle. Throw in a few indigenous tribes who are fascinated by Lexi's can-do attitude (even when it's not always planned!) and you've got yourself a recipe for Lexi-style adventure.
By that, I mean, the most outlandish things happen to her and she somehow manages to think her way out of situations that would make others stumble.
On a coupledom note, Lexi and Slash work for me so nicely. I was VERY pleased with how things worked out for them in the wilds and that they ended up with the very thing they didn't know they wanted. *thumbs up*
Exciting Adventure in Brazil's Amazon Jungle This is an epic episode. Many questions get answered. It also includes an epic wedding. I love this series! Our heroine is a top drawer computer geek and her friends are just as nerdy. Her boyfriend is also the best of the best in the IT field, not a nerd but definitely a geek. There are so many surprises in each story. There are twists and turns that no one will expect. I also love that it is a longer book so the author can put in as much detail or story twists as she feels necessary. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
I enjoyed this book so much, I read it twice. I think that this is the best of the series, the level of growth in Lexi is amazing and who wouldn't want a relationship like Lexi's and Slash's. The book tackles the question of their wedding and answers the question in an unusually way. Lexi has to put up with the jungle once again. although with Slash this time. and all the normal problems bugs, snakes, pirates and drug runner, native tribesmen kidnapping and so many other problems. All through it Lexi and Slash work together and bond. even more. The ending with the surprise appearance of Slash's biological mother leaves a great question as to what part she will play in the future. I hope there's many more to come. #NoQuestionsAsked #NetGalley
Wow! Layered characters, involved plot and —to me—very funny. To some it may seem over the top but things just seem to happen to Lexi which are so visual I just laugh. Reminiscent of Lucy. Slash is nice to have around as well. Solid plot, seemingly well researched and intelligent Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this arc
"I used to be an ordinary geek girl who worked at the NSA, liked crossword puzzles, chocolate eclairs, Doctor Who, and living my life online. But a series of events and people over the past year had changed all that. I made friends, found a new life outside my virtual one, got a boyfriend and then got engaged, saved the world a couple of times, and became tight with a little black cloud of trouble that wouldn’t seem to leave me alone."
Ominously timely!
While this is book twelve in the series, it's the first one I've read. So let's get that out of the way right off the top. Moffett does a good job of giving readers just enough background. This is a great stand alone! But it's intriguing enough that I'm sure most, like myself, will want to read the backlist too.
Lexi's "little black cloud" predictably follows her on her current assignment. The resulting chaos, while it's nothing Lexi can't handle, makes her grateful that her fiancé was available to join her.
Follow Lexi and Slash deep into the rainforest of Brazil as they come up against not only snakes and huge spiders, but corporate intrigue and corrupt government officials.
There's a lot to uncover as they fight for the good guys, and a couple of personal revelations in the mix as well. Great characters and an intricate story line that keeps the pages turning. Everything you want in a thriller with a soupçon of romance.
[Many thanks to NetGalley / Harlequin and the author for the opportunity to read an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review; the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.]
Book #12 is another adventure in the growth of Lexi Carmichael, girl geek. She has changed so much over the series that it is hard to believe she is the same insecure girl she was in book #1. Slash is her hero. He has become such a force after having followed her around and climbed in her windows in the beginning. Now she is the expert being sought after and Slash is accompanying her. This time they are off to the rain forests of Brazil to test a vaccine to prevent malaria. While Lexi and Slash are in Brazil, Lexi’s mother is trying to get Lexi to focus on her pending wedding to Slash and to pick a dress. Of course, Lexi isn’t interested and keeps postponing her decision. Then she goes to Brazil and gets mixed up with a drug cartel, not to mention some issues with Slash’s childhood. It is a fast and furious adventure. That ends up happily. This time there are none of the quirky characters except for Gwen. Start with #1.
Lexi Carmichael: saving scientists one snake at a time.

Ahhhh, it's that time of year again when I can curl up with the latest Lexi and Slash book and just lose myself in the pages for a few hours... These books are so good I seriously wish they were longer but in the end, they are that good I just re-read.
So No Questions Asked was just brilliant Lexie and Slash head off with Lexi's little black cloud right on her head... it's a jungle adventure in Brazil... Yay talk about excitement overload for our gorgeous Geek couple, who wouldn't love a few weeks in the Amazon right??? Bugs, snakes and wild natives oh my...
It is for a good cause though so Lexie sikes herself up and off they go, but as usual, things are never quite what they seem in Lexie's world and this latest adventure is a doozy.
I call it a chapter, even though it is a full book, because it's a chapter in the life of Lexie and Slash. For some reason it took me a while to get around to reading "No Questions Asked" and now I'm sorry it did. This chapter shows he !maturing Lexie has gone through since !meeting Slash and that includes the confidence in herself that she has attained. It also shows the way Slash has grown accustomed to the emotions that have come into his life. If there are single men reading this series, the words Slash uses both as his proposal and what he whispers to her on their "wedding night" will become a part of a lot of proposals and even vows. I know as a single woman, I wouldn't mind hearing them from the special man in my life!!!!
Thank you Julie Moffett for writing another nail biting adventure with humor sprinkled throughout the story. .
Every Lexi mystery has kept me on the edge of my seat. I love that with each succeeding book the characters change by growing in their lives by what happens to them. The Lexi and Slash romance deepens like a real relationship. I love the flaws in each character, like people in the real world. The only but is that Slash is too perfect but, that's ok since every woman will fall in love with him.I love this series and would recommend this series to all women, of any age.
Julie Moffett's latest book is a fun read. I really enjoy her main characters (Lexi and Slash of course) and their evolving relationship between each other and their family and friends. The latest story takes us to Brazil's rainforest. What makes Julie's books great reads is that she really puts a huge amount of detail into the setting as well as a plot that's exciting and loaded with surprises. If you haven't read any of this series, I highly recommend that you do. I am very pleased with this novel and look forward to what's in store for Lexi, Slash, and her crew. Geek girls rule!
This was my first book in the Lexi Carmichael series, but definitely not my last. This was a fun, fast paced thriller that keeps you guessing what will happen next. Lexi and Slash have to fly to the Brazilian rain forest to stop hackers from stealing a Malaria vaccine that could save millions of lives. While being put on the front lines, they are attacked, kidnapped and discover someone in their group is a trader. Hopefully they make it home in order to finish planning their wedding and can get married.
I loved this installment. It was a good mix of action and science and relationship. All of these are fun and quick reads and I enjoy following Lexi's exploits. She is a great protagonist who I relate to on multiple levels. I really enjoy how Moffet chooses controversial science, history and even current events to build her mysteries around. It makes for a interesting thought as well as fun characters. The shifting points of view continue in this installment which is fine, but felt a little like there were too many shifts, but it didnt really detract much from the plot.
The Lexi Carmichael series is one of my favorites. I love Lexi and Slash. In this installment Lexi’s “black cloud” sees her in the Brazilian rainforest. The story has all the elements I’ve come to expect from a Lexi Carmichael book:
- computer hacking - Lexi in all her awkward clumsy glory - Slash and his superhero heroics - complex chain of events - amusing humor
This is book 12 in the series. It could probably stand alone but seriously, do yourself a favor and start from Book 1!
