An innkeeper who reads minds. An ornery detective. And a trail of bodies. Cider Cove is the premiere destination for murder.
My name is Bizzy Baker, and I can read minds—not every mind, not every time but most of the time and believe me when I say it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
A doggie fashion show is afoot at the local shelter and hopefully each cute pooch will find a home to call their own. I’ve been enlisted to help out with the endeavor and I’m more than happy to do it. But trouble seems to follow me wherever I go and that body I stumbled upon quickly complicates everything. Not to mention a certain someone is determined to out my ability to read minds—and this time, they just might succeed.
Bizzy Baker runs the Country Cottage Inn, has the ability to pry into the darkest recesses of both the human and animal mind, and has just stumbled upon a body. With the help of her kitten, Fish, a mutt named Sherlock Bones and an ornery yet dangerously good looking homicide detective, Bizzy is determined to find the killer.
The Country Cottage Inn is known for its hospitality. Leaving can be murder.

The cute animals (and Bizzy's ability to hear their thoughts and communicate with them) is what makes this series so special. She gets witness reports from dogs and has cats showing her around buildings. That part is fabulous. Otherwise, the mystery is fairly standard. Also, the subplot with Bizzy's boyfriend Jasper's ex is dragging on. At first, it added depth to the characters, but now, it's just dragging on. I can't wait for Bizzy to tell Jasper her mind-reading secret, which should be coming up in the next book.
I love this series! In fact, I've enjoyed this series so much I've read the 1st 4 novels in the series in a row. There is an abundance of sweetness and charm in each story as Bizzy Baker may not be a successful baker independently but when she enlists the help of her friend Emmie they concoct detectable treats that are served in the Country Cottage Café on the property of the Country Cottage Inn in Cider Cove, Maine. Don't be surprised if you're ready for a sweet treat after reading any novel in the series and thankfully there's always a recipe at the end of the story so readers can make their own luscious indulgence.
Bizzy is the inn's manager and can read the minds of humans and animals. Bizzy identifies in the opening paragraph of each novel that "it's not all its cracked up to be" but as an animal lover that has always wondered what her cat is thinking it's endearing to know the conversations Bizzy has with her little kitten Fish. In "Dog Days of Murder" (Book 2 in the series) it was hysterical to hear Fish's comments and also the comments of Sherlock Bones, dog companion to Bizzy's boyfriend, detective Jasper Wilder as neither pet was thrilled about wearing costumes at Halloween. It's now January and there's a fashion show with canine models and one feline as a fundraiser for the Bow Wow Rescue House being held at the inn in hopes of finding forever homes for the dogs at the shelter. Both Fish and Sherlock Bones have quite a few new comments to share with Bizzy about their "costume contraptions."
There's a new homicide investigation and Bizzy does her own investigating while Jasper handles the official lines of inquiry. It's simply never dull for anyone that's around Bizzy.
The next novel in the series "Murder Bites" will be taking place around Valentine's Day so I'm going to save reading it around that time in 2021. I know that romance will be in the air at the inn in the midst of a beautiful decor and a new yummy goodie on the menu.
Bizzy is the inn's manager and has the unique ability to read the minds of humans and animals alike. She shares at the start of each novel that her gift is "not all it's cracked up to be," but as an animal lover myself, I find her conversations with her kitten Fish especially endearing. In "Dog Days of Murder" (Book 2), Fish's witty commentary and Sherlock Bones's remarks—the dog companion of Bizzy's boyfriend, Detective Jasper Wilder—are hilarious, particularly since neither pet is thrilled about wearing Halloween costumes. Now, with January's arrival, the inn is hosting a fundraising fashion show for the Bow Wow Rescue House. Just wait until you discover the surprising reason Fish and Sherlock Bones are back in costumes. Naturally, both pets have strong opinions about their latest "costume contraptions."
A new homicide investigation unfolds, with Bizzy conducting her own sleuthing while Jasper manages the official inquiry. Life around Bizzy is never dull.
This series is so much fun to read! Each story sparkles with sweetness and charm. Bizzy Baker may not be a successful baker on her own, but with help from her friend Emmie, they create irresistible treats. These are served at the Country Cottage Café, located on the grounds of the Country Cottage Inn in Cider Cove, Maine. As part of their contribution to the fundraiser, chocolate lovers will be pleased with their "Rocky Road Brownies." Don't be surprised if you find yourself craving a sweet treat after reading any of these novels—and fortunately, there's always a recipe at the end for readers to try at home.
The next novel in the series is "Murder Bites." I know that romance will be in the air at the inn in the midst of a beautiful decor and a new yummy goodie on the menu.
This is a fun story, with a mind-reading innkeeper, a handsome police officer, and a number of kooky characters. Bizzy, the innkeeper doesn't just read the minds of people around her; she also knows what animals are thinking, which sets up some silly conversations. And she helps her boyfriend solve murders and other crimes. It's a fun read that makes you smile.
I enjoyed reading this mystery , the first one I have ever read by this author. The plot was not too difficult to figure out. I liked the characters, including the animals , both of whom whose thoughts the heroine could understand which made it more humorous! The language is suitable for teenage readers.
Bizzy Baker is caught up in trying to solve another murder and helping fur babies find forever homes. Fortunately her ability to read human and animal minds comes in handy. I just adore all the animals and wish I could adopt them all. I can’t wait to read more about the characters and animals I have fallen in love with!
I borrowed a copy of this book from Kindle Unlimited.
Book Description: “A doggie fashion show is afoot at the local shelter and hopefully each cute pooch will find a home to call their own. I’ve been enlisted to help out with the endeavor and I’m more than happy to do it. But trouble seems to follow me wherever I go and that body I stumbled upon quickly complicates everything. Not to mention a certain someone is determined to out my ability to read minds, and this time, they just might succeed.”
The local animal shelter treats their animals better than they treat each other. Unfortunately, that leads to murder. Poor Jasper will have a heck of a time trying to keep Bizzy out of his investigation as the corpse lands at her feet. Literally. She must be a magnet of some kind for the dead.
Things are heating up between members of the Baker and Wilder families on the romantic side of the book and I’m not saying just between Bizzy and Jasper! Griffin, a sleek gray cat, and Pickles, an adorable tan chihuahua hold the honor of being the new animal characters introduced in this story.
I do not like reviews which include spoilers, so, you won’t find any here. What I will say is that this story was an entertaining, clean, fun, and easy read. If you enjoy reading a good, but weird, story centered on solving a mystery with plenty of red herrings that has a little romance and a lot of drama and angst mixed in, then I highly recommend this book to you.
Recipe included: Country Cottage Café Rocky Road Brownies
Volunteering at a pet rescue event, Bizzy Baker, telesensual, is surprised and shaken when the body of the host lands in front of her. With her boyfriend busy on another case, Bizzy decides to get busy and help him investigate the murder- with a little help from her telepathic abilities.
I was a little disappointed that this book didn’t pick right up from the previous book’s cliffhanger ending- in fact that ending was only briefly mentioned in passing! This one also had a cliffhanger ending, but it was more book hook than anything else. That being said, this was as entertaining as the previous books; lots of furry companions and conversations with them, some drama with Jasper’s ex girlfriend and with Bizzy’s nemesis, as well as the main drama of the murder mystery.
These are enjoyable and lighthearted reads, lots of fluff and fun, making this cosy series great beach reads or armchair ones. Recommended for cosy paranormal mystery lovers.
Another Bizzy Baker (non-baker, actually) story. In this case there's going to be a dog show where hte dogs will be dressed up in clothes in order to raise money for the dog rescue house.
Being a Bizzy Baker story there is, of course, a murder, this time a rather nasty woman gets killed. There's various suspects, the reading of minds, the animal group of Fish, Sherlock nad Pickles, the M.I. B.s, Camilla and a very major issue for Bizzy.
Will she or won't she tell Jasper that she can read minds (at times) and, if she tells him, what will be his reaction?
It's a decent, various standard story in this series, the thing in my opinion that makes it different from similar series are Fish and Sherlock and how they interact with Bizzy.
I do love this series but I am kind of getting tired of this secret of her reading minds. Who cares? Really they are going to arrest her because she can read thoughts or take her away to run tests. I am not sure why she doesn't tell Jasper. If he can't handle the truth then he is not the guy for her. Plus I am just getting tired of the ex always butting in. That being said I loved the story line and I love the animals and I love Bizzy and Jasper. I liked that this wasn't all about dating Jasper's family finally there are more people in town to date than his family.
Bizzy is good at putting together what she reads in minds with what she hears coming from mouths to bake perfectly logical solutions. This book puts together an enchanting mix of animals and people surrounding Buzzy Baker, who is definitely not short on enchanting genes herself. The humorous situations in which the characters, especially Georgie find themselves serve to make the book more enjoyable. A good read for those who enjoy cozy mysteries with a touch of whimsy.
Just love these stories. There's never a dull moment whether its Buzzy getting into harried predicaments or Fish and Sherlock antics. Now if only she could get rid of Camilla, life would be so much nicer. With Bizzy knack for people being murdered within her general vicinity, she doesn't need the Camilla headache. Can't wait to read the next chapter. Great job. Thank you.
Just couldn't put this book down! A real page turner! I absolutely love this series! It has delightful interaction between the fur pets and their humans. Fish and Sherlock Bones are so hilarious sometimes that I catch myself laughing out loud. The story line was extremely interesting and had me glued to every page right up until the end. This is a fantastic series and I plan to continue with it!!
Cute cozy mystery with pets and Stephanie Plum vibes- if She could read minds. Bought as a winter book box set, I missed the first couple books in the series. Though the author does give background on characters, it’s not the same as learning about each from the beginning and made for a lot of characters and personalities to learn in such a short story. Definitely peeked my interest in the series.
This was a free book pick, and I admit I shouldn't have started with book 4 in the series. I just couldn't get into it. I don't like books when the "bad guys" are so odiously bad. In this case, the narrator's boyfriend's ex girlfriend was just so out right annoying, I couldn't get myself past the first few info dump chapters.
Bizzie has another murder to solve. The daughter of the owner of a string of casino-hotels falls from the second floor balcony of a mansion where a previous murder had occurred. Was it an accident or murder? The animals help Bizzie and Jasper find the killer.
This is a good cozy mystery. Bizzy is up to her old tricks. A murder to solve and agents to dodge. Addison Moore as Bellamy Bloom has written another good story. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Another murder, and Bizzy is front and center to witness the deed. When a wealthy socialite falls to her death, Bizzy will work with Jasper to find who is responsible while helping host a dog rescue fashion show.
Camila is still up to her old tricks trying to split them up. Now, Bizzy just needs to trust Jasper enough to share her secret.
Loved this book. Colourful cast of characters. Brilliant points of view from pets and peoples minds. Consistent chuckles of humour throughout and a great recipe to try out at the end.
This book is ok for a bit of lighthearted reading. Quite silly characters really, no reality. A plot of greed leading to the murder of a person who loved strife and hated people. Not for me.
Quick cute read. But it's very predictable....the main character can read human and animal minds. Her arch nemesis knows and wants her very handsome grey eyed chief of police chief boyfriend. Pretty same story....
A delightful, quick moving cozy mystery. A delightful plot, great character development coupled with laughter out loud moments and red herrings, it makes a delightful read.
Some readers might be fine with a hidden secret storyline that drags on for 20-plus books; I'm not. The characters are at least more likable than their counterparts in the other series, but I'm over it.
I love that bizzy can talk with animals. I love fish and Sherlock the cutest pets ever. Really cute series of books. I like that bizzy just kind of falls into being a detective nothing too scary and still a cute mystery.
This was a freebie - thankfully. I'm not sure what was worse the innkeeper that can read minds (including the animals) or all the cheesy sex/romance innuendo. Guess this is a series and others knew what to expect hence the more positive ratings. This one was not for me.
