The last three years have not been easy for Nora Hazard, but she’s been able to create a new life for herself. Since becoming orb-Bonded, she’s managed to survive, then thrive. She’s mastered her power and grown up during her time as a soldier, even experiencing love.
But circumstances will force Nora to make new choices. Her deal with a powerful demigoddess is coming to an end, bringing new opportunities and new dangers--including secret information about her painful, mysterious past. Her loyalties will be put to the test.
Unfortunately, despite her survivor mentality, her luck is terrible. Trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes. After uncovering a massive plot that directly threatens everything she holds dear, she will be forced into a struggle that pushes her to her very limits.
For Nora Hazard, nothing is ever simple, but she made a promise to someone important to never give up. She’s been wounded in spirit and body, but remains unbroken. Anyone or anything that picks a fight with her or threatens her friends may come to regret it, even a dark god.
*This is the last volume of the Nora Hazard series, which directly intersects with the Delvers LLC series, also by Blaise Corvin.
Blaise Corvin served in the US Army in several roles. He has seen the best and the worst that humanity has to offer. He is a sucker for any hobby involving weapons, art, or improv.
He currently lives in Texas, in a house full of enough geeky memorabilia to start a museum.
He likes talking about himself in 3rd person and posting pictures of himself holding tarantulas. Sometimes, he pretends he is not an idiot with a terrible sense of humor.
It's all very eccentric.
Blaise currently writes mostly in the GameLit genre and LitRPG subgenre, exciting new classifications of fiction where characters either play a game (usually VR), or live in a world with game-like elements.
Delvers LLC is GameLit, lightly LitRPG, mostly a Fantasy/SciFi Adventure. Secret of the Old Ones is hard LitRPG, complete with XP and leveling...plus has Lovecraftian and steampunk elements (because why not?).
2.5 Stars for Narration (Narrator style detracted from the story.) 4 Stars for Concepts 2 Stars for Execution/Delivery of Concepts 3 Stars for Characters
My fav part of the story were the very minor snippets about Delvers Inc. The story climax deflated the whole series for me. I had a hard time seeing Nora as a whole character. She didn't grow into her role and character growth was done at a snail's pace in the trilogy. The entire series was a setup to present Nora.
Awkward characters can be great MCs. Nora stayed super awkward. Then I finally get that she was sexually abused, and I end up disliking the whole series because the background layout for her is crap. I read a wide variety of books. This series is not a grimdark or horror but Nora's history would fit well in either genre.
The best parts of the series were the small elements that make up the world and added to the larger picture of the main plot arc.
This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. This is a gameLit light book, with adult situations and language.
This trilogy was not as popular commercially as his Delver LLC series. However, as a student of anthropology and SF/F stories, I remain impressed with the world-building. In the Nora series, many of our cultural ideas are challenged. The sex ratio is artificially altered by the alien Dolos who calls himself god of the world. The Delvers series concerns two human friends abducted by Dolos and given a few gifts and then set loose to survive. Dolos studies their actions, calling them his experiments. Dolos has priestesses that carry out his edicts and interfere or challenge those who break the rules. The difference with Nora is that she has been selected not by Dolos, but by one of those priestesses, and along the way, Nora stumbles upon a few ancient artifacts in a long-abandoned dungeon.
Nora is a product of that society with the skewed sex-ratio. Most women can't get married, and those who do have to share their man with other women. Women fill most of the jobs, and are often its casualties as well. Boys, being rare, are treasured by women. This turns our own expectations on their head. Many readers may find such situations personally uncomfortable. The author, Blaise Corvin, has really thought out how this would affect the underlying culture of the many human societies on Ludos. High marks for his world-building.
The action is non-stop, and the pacing is great. To really get the impact and to see Nora grow, read the other two books first -Mitigating Risk (Book 1) and Competitive Advantage (Book 2).
I like the series quite a lot.
SPOILERS Some readers in their reviews think Nora's acceptance of the offer at the end to be a let-down. However, I disagree. I found her choice quite in line with her desires to find a family to marry into, and to have a home of her own.
Though I have to wonder about how a certain magic-using redhead will take to Nora's becoming number two, and if she will try and become number three since it's so obvious she's been in love with Aodh for a long time (they met in book 2). And how that volatile redhead will react to Nora being there ahead of her.
I stopped reading at about 13% in. The Main Character's motivations for racing off by herself to confront old enemies is just stupid. This combined with the harem relationships as a norm, the free floating dungeons full of treasure, the roving bands of adventurers, and every other element are just checked boxes on the list of required LittRPG story components.
The flexibility in the use of stereotypical characters, the acceptance of motivations at variance with the world's norms, latitude in language use in dialogue have all been squandered. If you are interested in a fast, reasonably well described adventure with no depth and can overlook the lack of a clearly defined premise (the entire universe of the series) and can shut off questioning plot holes, this might not be the worst but I wouldn't recommend this series.
To be honest, this book was hard to get through for me. It wasn't bad or offensive or anything, it just didnt capture my attention and was hard to dedicate time to. At least half the book felt like showing and not telling. Soooooooo much introspection and Nora's thought processes. Just uninterrupted paragraphs one after another. I will still read Blaise Corvin's books, but I am ready for a change
If you literally have nothing else to read. The quality of this series is no where near that of Delvers LLC. The incompetence of the POV is compounded by the fact that incompetence is a major theme of the series. It might be tolerable if the POV had to suffer the consequences of her poor decisions but the deus ex machine is strong with this one.
YES. This is the one that reconnects with the Delvers story line. In fact the conclusion of this book is the conclusion of Adventure Capital, making it likely that the next trilogy will feature all the characters from Nora hazard and the delvers. Very exciting, can't wait.
How is Accounts Payable as a book in itself? This one is Less linear in Narrative flow than Mitigating Risk and Competitive Advantage. This one kind of jumps around tying up loose ends but it didn't feel too contrived for all that. I found this one to be pretty damn fun. Nora comes full circle. She grows as a person wile remaining herself. Blaise didn't recreate the 'over powered too fast' fiasco like he did in Delvers by balancing some of Nora's power costs, but it comes close because Blaise obviously loves superheroes and tries to make all his characters into super powered juggernauts by the end. I might find things look different when I reread this, but at the first reading it just worked, felt natural, and I couldn't put it down.
I'm seriously itching for the next book on Ludus where they all attend the Academy.
Pretty good and I liked the way the story came together in the end. Quite a few moving parts that seemed to line up quite naturally and in a satisfying manner.
Some things were a little on the nose and had a bit of cringe, especially hellbeam cannon bleh. Not a big deal, but I had to knock of a star for the ending.
It was good, don't get me wrong but it makes the Nora Hazard books a must read for Delvers otherwise I cant imagine how confusing it would be. The author so far has done a good job keeping things self contained, with a few dashes here and there to entertain Delver readers. However despite his initial claims, unless some awkward recap is placed in the beginning of the next book in delvers, you have to read this one.
So I love and enjoy Nora as a character and from start to finish, these books have been amazing. The one and only small grievance/annoyance with this book are there were several points when Nora's mental ability was forgotten especially towards the end she couldn't recall the names nor could she recall the family name of someone who threatened her and gave a pseudo prophecy come on. It's a very small thing and not a big deal it just kind of irked me. Other than that sold round-up too the three books for Nora can't wait to read more of the main book storyline.
I enjoyed this one a lot, and I can't strongly disagree that it's the end of the Nora Hazard series, though (very mild spoiler) it's not the end of Nora. I'm glad the author gave us the back-story to have as we go forward from here into Golden Handcuffs. I've enjoyed a lot of litrpg, and they are generally lacking in strong, bad-ass women capable of passing the Bechdel test on the page. It's nice to see a character who does.
I read Delvers LLC before starting on Nora Hazard and the story met expectations. From a gang-banger to adventurer to soldier, to the hero of a few battles including closing 2 portals to the demon world. Finally, circumstances put her in position to be betrothed to the King. Many levels of growth occurred during her story. Im looking forward to the next book in the Delvers / Hazard saga.
To all those that thought to dismiss the Nora hazard story because you simply wanted the focus to be on delvers LLC I say to u to give the series a chance. It’s so amazing, the way the author makes you get in tune with nora’s feelings and emotion that you become so connected to her is amazing. It has everything I love ab a MC and more. Great job to the author
Seriously, I loved reading this book. I had already read golden handcuffs, so I knew who she was, but this series absolute made the character so much richer and enhanced my enjoyment of this world. Seeing it through the eyes of a local, in a sense. Loved it. Can't wait to read more.
The time jump surprised me, but I guess it shouldn't have since we need to catch up with our friends from Delvers LLC. Nora continues to evolve and finds out that maybe, just maybe, she is a hero.
I say almost because her story continues in Delvers LLC #4: Golden Handcuffs.
Looking forward to more of this universe.

This was a fun set of three books to read. Other than Lisa maybe getting away, this was a great closure book for the series. I am glad to see Nora May finally get what she wanted for a relationship, as well as increasing her skills. I recommend this book and series.
Excellent story! Ties the Delvers books and this series together very well and provides a lot of good background into a very interesting character. I can’t wait to see where Ludus goes from here.
This is how you end a series!! I laughed, I cried, I screamed in triumph!! It’s awesome to see Nora meet Delvers LLC and wonder what’s in store for Ludus next!
I liked this book, you should read it too. All joking aside this is a great continuation of the series. Can't wait for the next Delvers LLC book to continue the story. Thanks again
This series really adds into the Delvers. I am really looking forward to the next books. I’m glad I decided to give Nora and the Delvers a read, and you will be too!
This is a great read with a strong female main character. It is refreshing to read a LitRPG novel that *doesn't* fill the pages with character sheet checks. I am looking forward to reading how this character fits in to the main world story by Blaise.
What a high speed adventure to a truly satisfying conclusion to a really fun character background prequel trilogy. Too many good scenes to note them individually.
This set of books have made me happy the story is very strong and the telling is first class can only say lived this book even though a man wrighting a woman s part points in some new directions .
I love this series. Nora is strange, confused and has a huge heart. a hero! I like the new character, Tanushree and hope to see more of her in the next series.
