After divorcing, Mario’s mother must uproot the family to find work. Mario struggles with the thought of moving, until he experiences the benefits of his mother’s new job at a fruit company. His new life includes an almost unlimited supply of bananas and a series of new adventures. However, Mario develops a great distaste for bananas once he sees the REAL harvest of the banana plantations.
I had to read this book for my spanish class and I won’t say I loved because I kind of didn’t. It was educational regarding the banana plantations in Costa Rica and I’m glad to have learned about it. I probably wouldn’t have read this book without being required to. But if you’re looking for a really short story about banana plantations and a recount of someone’s story that’s written in spanish then you should read this one.
Great novel for Comprehensible Spanish. It deals with serious themes, like environmentalism and death. I am not sure the cover picture matches up in my mind with the story, but I do love the story. Great way to bring awareness to our students of an imperfect system (and get us thinking about where our bananas come from!)
Read this book for my Spanish 3 class and once I started to grasp at the concepts in this book I might have just about cried, especially around the time . This book was great for reading comprehension, but the cover + the story have me a bit confused. Overall I think it's a great book for language learners, as it also provides a bit of cultural insight to a place where said language is used.
read for Spanish class. it was a good read, but definitely elementary Spanish level. very sad how the much the companies were able to hurt people with little to no punishment.
Mi primera vez leer un libro entero en español. This book is perfect for those learning Spanish and beginning to read for the first time at an A2-B1 level.
I really enjoyed this book and it was a great book for me in my 3rd year of Spanish. Very great and important story. It taught me a lot about bananas that I never knew about!
